The food was fine, the service was horrible. Though we were seated after a reasonable wait, it took a server over ten minutes to come to the table and take our drink orders. Figured they were short staffed or something however, this ended up being an indication that service would have challenges. Drinks were delivered 15 minutes after that and then we didn't see our server for a check-in. Salads were delivered before the entrees by one of the runners however, he took off before anyone could ask if we could have setups to actually eat said salad. Our server was still MIA fortunately, one of the hostesses noticed us looking rather displeased and took action herself (more on her later). Entrees were delivered within seconds of us getting our setups, so now we had a crowded table and the joy of deciding if we let the hot food go cold in order to eat our entrees. The manager swung by and we told him about what had happened - not that it appeared he cared or bothered to apologize for the poor service. Eventually the server showed up and offered a half hearted apology - which is apparently all we were going to get from him or the supposed manager. The only reason why I would ever darken the door of this place ever again would be due to the Bree, the hostess who noticed something wasn't right. Her situational awareness, willingness to try and correct a situation that wasn't her direct opportunity to solve for, and smile while she was helping were a refreshing change from the server and manager we had interfaced with thus far. I recently signed up for the membership app due to seeing an advertisement for their BOGO Double Winger offer. After doing the sign up, I was given a free sandwich offer which was due to expire. So, I took advantage of the free sandwich which came with your choice of side. I opted for the Tx Brisket sandwich with fries. The value was $14.50 but the sandwich was fairly small, but did taste ok. But, I also decided to try their double winger offer which is the equivalent of ~40 drumettes for $25.00. I chose the Wilber's Revenge sauce (XXX Hot) which was really good and had a great kick. Not often do I find that places that claim XXXhot, come close, but this place did a very good job. I believe they smoke their wings, because it had a faint smoke taste which was a nice addition to the depth of flavor. When I placed the order, I requested curb side, however, something went wrong and I had to go in to pick up the food, which is fine. The lady that assisted me was professional & courteous. Don't waste money on the big platter, get regular plates so you fill up the stuff you really want. When we went they were selling pies. We got a cherry pie to take home, it was TERRIBLE! Much went in the trash. There was no discernible cherries in it. If you took a half cup of cherries and a half cup of flour and mixed it in a blender, you have the filling. While manager did end up giving us a discount, not as much as discounts as we paid for gc, he was extremely rude to us. I LOVE FAMOUS DAVE'S!!!! This has legit been my favorite restaurant chain for the longest time. I'm from Ohio and there is probably one one left in a suburb of Cleveland. So you can imagine my excitement when I moved to AZ and found out that there is a FD in the Valley. My absolute favorite meal here is the Cedar Plank Salmon. It has come and gone from the menu over the years. Even when it's off the menu, I've been able have the cooks make it for me. I love dousing the salmon in Rich and Sassy sauce. The cornbread is also out of this world! I'm also a mega fan of the wedge fries. They've changed up the fries over the years as well but the wedge fries are classic Famous Dave's and I'm soooo happy they brought them back! Also, what I found out on my trip to the Mesa FD is that they have REALLY stepped up their dessert menu! Just when I thought this place couldn't get any better, they now have my favorite dessert of all time....a warm skillet cookie with vanilla ice cream!!! And let me tell you, I have tried this dessert many other places (Oregano's, BJs, etc) and Famous Dave's literally blows them all out of the water! The cookie is much thicker and it's soooo gooey--- almost like partially cooked cookie dough in the middle. It is so damn good-- I think about it often and cannot wait to go back. They better never remove that from the menu. This Famous Dave's also seems to be newer. It looks like it was built more recently than other FD's I've been to. It was also super packed on a Saturday night, so make sure you make reservations (on Open Table). I already told my boyfriend that we need to come here every 4-6 weeks so I can get my FD fix. We usually love going to FD BBQ but yesterday was so bad. We sat at the bar and this was our experience. 1. Youngish bartender took 15 minutes to ask us what we would like to drink. Mind you there was only 7 people sitting at the bar and 1 two person table with 2 people. All the other people had there food and drinks. 2. Took an additional 15 minutes before he took our order. 3. When our food finally arrived the food was cold and the grits were hard as a rock. I could literally pick up the whole thing of grits with my fork and it did not fall off. 4. Ask to speak to manager and requested a side of butter and ranch, which I already told him I wanted when I ordered. The bartender said okay and then he proceeded to walk away and I noticed that he was starting to pick up menus left on tables and the bar and then started cleaning and then started talking to other people and now 20 minutes has passed and still nothing. I finally had to go up to the host and ask for my sides of butter and ranch so I can at least eat my lunch which was horrible. I again then ask the bartender to speak to manager and he said okay. About 30 minutes later he finally brought us our check and still no manager. My husband was so upset that he just did not want to be there anymore and so we left.. I don't know if we will ever go back. We have been going there since the first day they open doors in Phoenix. Do better famous Dave's or you're going to continue losing business and then your doors will be shut for good. It was a very sad and horrible experience yesterday. read more

She got the ribs and red mashed potatoes. It came with a cornbread muffin. The ribs were very tasty and very good. The mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious! The ribs were a little small and the side of potatoes was also small but my friend who was not a big eater, this meal was great for her. I ordered the three meat plate, and I would suggest that if you're normally hungry. I got ribs, sausage links and brisket. Again, the meat portions appeared small but it was very good and tasty. And for it being from their lunch menu, I did expect the portions to be less than their dinner menu. The brisket was a little tough and it came in a small portion on top of bread, which was interesting. But it was still devourable. I ordered a side of pickles and it hit the spot. The sauces were also so good. I especially enjoyed the spicy one. I paid about 15 dollars for my plate. The service was great here for lunch, very attentive. And the restaurant appeared very clean. This was my first visit here and the food was meh. I got the catfish plate. It came with one meat and 2 sides. My sides were Mac and cheese and beans. The Mac and cheese was terrible. The noodles were mush and there was corn in it. CORN! The cheese didn't taste real either. It was very watery. The beans were delicious. Only bad side of the beans was there was more meat then beans. I was picking all the meat out and it took more than half the container. It was depressing because the taste was so good. I'm not sure what kind of meat is in the beans because it didn't say on the menu when I was ordering. I wish they stated this. The catfish was not good. It didn't taste like catfish at all. Pretty good bbq. Meat is served without bbq and on the table there are 3 sauces to pick from: a sweet bbq, a spicy bbq, and a regular bbq. Very good sauce! And I like that you can add it depending on your preference. Meat was tender and macaroni and cheese was awesome! Corn muffin was soooo good too! I just recently went this past weekend and let me just say the food is so freaking amazing! I got some BBQ chicken & Beef Brisket with the Famous Fries & Wilbur beans. Everything was absolutely bursting with flavor & the meat was cooked to perfection, all juicy & no dry-ness whatsoever! They are/were so prompt & their customer service was so attentive! I love the vibes with the great choice in music especially during Happy Hour & you still had some TV's on for sports or news to keep up with. All around great setup and layout, wasn't too crowded and you def have enough space to move around. We had a friend with crutches so they def had enough space where they went. Quite possibly the worst bbq I've ever had. Ordered a 2 item combo plate: brisket and pulled pork, with mashed potatoes and corn. Also came with a cornbread muffin. The brisket looked like it was days old: dry, absolutely no bark and devoid of any smokiness or flavor really. Had to dip it in sauce just to make it edible. If you have to use sauce on smoked meat to make it taste better you got a problem. The pulled pork was not much better - it did have some bark, so got some flavor there, but the meat was also dry and had no Smokey flavor at all. Famous Dave's BBQ is about average. The meat isn't as tender or flavor filled as others in the Phoenix area but it is a more convenient option since there are multiple locations closer to where I live than say Bobby Q or Little Miss BBQ. This Mesa location is in the Riverview shopping area. The layout was spacious and we had no problem getting a table on a Friday night. Every Famous Dave's will start you out with some complimentary chips and they'll squirt out some BBQ sauce on a plate for you to dip the chips with. Our server made a cute little piggy face design on ours which was a nice touch. I wanted a little variety in my meal so I had the 2 item combo surf and turf style with catfish fingers and pulled pork. Your combo will include 2 sides so I went with a healthier route, opting for steamed broccoli and green beans. The food didn't take too long to make, probably just a few minutes and we were ready to dig in! The plate itself didn't look like a lot of meat to me but it did fill me up by the time I was done. The pulled pork was placed on a piece of white bread and drizzled with their Sweet and Sassy BBQ sauce. To start, the iced tea strangely tasted like peanuts, I had brisket and spare ribs, and I ate all of it, but there was no flavor even with the bbq sauce. The cornbread seemed a little stale. This is my dads favorite restaurant and we were celebrating his birthday today. We have dined at this location for many years. Today was such a bad experience from beginning to end. My grandmother utilizes a walker and it was difficult to navigate thru the tables that were so close together. The young host didn't anticipate this and should have seen this and seated us somewhere more accessible for her. We sat at the table and the lunch menu has dirty finger prints with tons of nasty BBQ sauce on it. When the manager came around I pointed it out to him and he laughed it off and took it from us. I ordered a draft beer and it was flat, since our server was lacking attentiveness, I walked to the bar myself and was given another one which was better. Family ordered lunch portions ribs and I ordered a loaded baked potato. It was such a joke. $8 for a potato that was anything but loaded. I requested additional toppings as it hardly had anything in it. (see pics) Other tables service was good, a plate with the dog drawn in it in BBQ sauce, a description of the different sauces, assistance with menu items. Non of this was received by our table. We couldn't even get a 2nd glass of water with our meals. Finally as we are leaving, I'm so irritated at this point, we leave thru the take out door as it's closer for my grandmother and the rug is so soiled and disgusting. We went to the Mesa, Arizona location. Our first time. For the price you pay, would have expected larger portions. Food was good, but not amazing. I came in and with a diverse party of three and was told by the hostess (who had an attitude) that there was a 20 minute wait. There were many empty booths and what seemed to be a full compliment of staff available, as there were a number of waiters who were talking in a cluster in a corner. A young couple came in 5 minutes later (third in line) and was immediately given a booth ahead of other waiting patrons. When we were finally given a booth, the hostess passed several open booths and placed us in a cramped booth next to the bathroom. She tired the menses on the table and walked away. When our server arrived, he apologized for the poor seating placement as we moved to a more comfortable booth next to the one we we squeezed into. The experience was degrading to say the least, the only saving grace was the server trying to make things right and was very attentive. As we were leaving, most of the staff bid us a good night, but the hostess we dealt with earlier looked at us and immediately faced in a different direction and was texting on our phone. Members of my party said "goodnight" to her and she completely ignored them and continued texting with her face buried in her phone.
