We used to always go to Famous Daves back in the day when we were in the mood for BBQ or just good French fries and a bunch of sauces to dip them in. Coming back after years and years, there are a couple of differences, but, most is the same.  There are fewer sauces to choose from on the tables, but, the ones that are there are all good in their own variety.  The restaurant is large and clean and the staff was very welcoming and helpful.  The menu is extensive and out of the multiple options, we chose the St. Louis ribs, chopped pork and the brisket.  Our favorite was the ribs.  Unlike many places lately, Famous Daves has kept their ribs full of meat.  They were tasty and very satisfying rather than scrawny or tiny and disappointing as we have found more and more in other BBQ places.  The chopped pork was good as was the brisket but the ribs were the favorite.  There were also many sides to choose from, including the mac & cheese (which contained corn - haven't seen that before) the garlic mashed potatoes, collards and the necessary fries for dipping.  Each entrée also came with a corn muffin.  It was a lot of food so we're saving the muffins for breakfast tomorrow...  The portions were generous enough that we have lunch set for tomorrow.  I'm bummed that I ate so much that I had no room for dessert because several of those sounded good.  Oh well, tomorrow is another day and maybe a dessert run will be in the works.  Famous Daves has plenty of tables and booths in a surprisingly large space and the parking is super easy in the lot out front. read more

Back for the first time in a long time. Lunch menu is available until 4:00pm but there is a "hard stop" at 4:25pm according to the waiter. The hour between 4:00pm and 5:00pm, the bar was busy but the restaurant was empty. Portions are OK, sides are OK; corn muffins are good but seemed to be sweet. Okay, the time to come to Famous Dave's for very good, fresh & delicious BBQ (not to the level of Texas BBQ) is Saturday morning around 11:30 am. We sat in the bar area section booth. We were taken care of by Karen. She ran the bar. She was attentive and professional. We ordered our usual Feast for 2 with the highly unrated Fried Chicken and Beef Brisket with pork ribs. Karen told us ahead of time that they fry the chickens fresh so it would take an extra 15 mins. We were of course fine with it. When the food arrived, everything but the cole slaw was hot and fresh. The fried chicken was crispy and juicy. Could use more herbs & spices tho. The brisket was soft, tender, moist and almost melt in mouth. The fries were hot fresh and crispy. The ribs were tender and smokey. Much better than last time. The beans were flavorful and a little tart from vinegar but onions still had some crunch. Cole slaw was cold and tasty. We didn't touch the cornbread muffins (took home). When my son tastes food and closes his eyes, it must be good. He said best brisket he's ever had. He's 13 but never had Texas BBQ except for Bucees. Overall a 5 star experience for food and service. We got lucky but when you get food hot and fresh, usually the experience will be a banger! I tipped Karen extra for really good service. We had a party of 8, and two dinners came out 15 minutes after everyone else's and one person did not receive their dinner at all -- even after 30+ minutes of waiting. The manager is absolutely clueless on how to manage and never even came out to check on how to get things rectified. She was too busy playing cashier and making excuses. I hadn't been to Famous Dave's in a long time. My friend and I went there last night for dinner after we'd been to the movies. I ordered the beef brisket sandwich and my friend ordered a chicken and bacon sandwich. Matt was our server. Everything started out okay, but we sat for a long time waiting for our orders to come. When I asked Matt where our food was his answer was something like "I wish I knew." Not something I'd ever heard a server say. The restaurant wasn't crowded at all. The food was great. I really enjoyed the sandwich and my friend and I had the French silk pie for dessert. It was good. I just wish that the service had been a little better. read more

FD's is a chain no doubt, however, it's one of the better BBQ spots across the US and the food is consistent. They are conservative with their sides, I always order extra. I love ribs, I can eat them anytime. The fried chicken is good, the brisket, burnt ends are excellent options also. It's an easy option when you want something simple and consistent. read more

Went to this location to place a takeout order for 4. Take outs are ordered and picked up at one end of the bar, literally. The bar sits on one side of a half wall, with dinning on the other side. Basically the top is open and seating is close, so that the tv's can be seen while dinning as well as from the small bar top. (This explanation will make sense when you read the rest of this review) On the other end of this small bar is seating to be used for waiting in orders, tables, etc. I decided to order a to go drink while waiting on our food to be prepared. As I waited for the bar tender, voices were raised near me, at the opposite end of the bar. 2 men were having a discussion about the news, and went on to yell about people being racist against at white people, and to use the "F" word every 3rd word. It was very unsettling and unnerving. The 2 went on and on in extremely loud voices, to discuss how "rednecks" feel about things, and so on. They continued to degrade a man due to his race in all sorts of derogatory ways. I asked the bartender if I could go pay and move away from the bar. I informed him that I wanted to move away due to this loud conversation that I wanted no Part of. He said sure. He then came to tell me he was sorry and that he hadn't realized that this LOUD and horrible conversation was taking place. Meanwhile , My husband was sitting with our two grand children just feet away, and I was very upset by this being allowed so close to other customers as well as my family. The bartender, nor the other older male employee who was also at the bar ( taking / handing out take out orders ) said one word to the 2 males who went on and on spouting racist insults and speaking of other horrible things at the bar. There was no way they didn't hear it. One of the loud drinking makes stated he was there the previous night, and appeared to be a regular. Either way, this behavior should NOT have been allowed or tolerated!! We waited at least 20 minutes, and NO ONE said a word to these people. I was appalled. I hope that both employees & management receive training as to the actions that should be taken when these matters occur. Because I get the feeling that this was not the first or last time it will happen. Also, our food was cold and the order of pulled pork was hard to boot. If you'd like to have a meal without racist rants and threats being heard by yourself, or your children, I'd recommend you dine elsewhere as well. read more

Too bad they shut down some of their outposts up north but it was nice to taste their above average BBQ down in Virginia. This location was fairly small but fortunately the food was still as I remembered it to be. Too bad they don't offer baby back ribs here but at least they still had their excellent dry rub option for their spare ribs. Coupled with their always excellent (and spicy) Devil's Spit sauce, it was an excellent meal all around. Their fries were still nice and crispy (and paired nicely with the BBQ sauce) and the cole slaw, cornbread etc were all good. The service here was nice and food got to the tables pretty quickly. First off clean restaurant and great staff. This is where Petibone's used to be, and there was another famous spot before that. If you're looking for a good experience, this restaurant will work for the basics. Also there's no long waits. That alone is common in this part of Northern Virginia. My ex girlfriend used to love this place, so I'd take her here. I'm more in the like category. Is it decent? Absolutely. Their barbecue and briskets are tasty. Yet I think they are afraid to mix things up a bit. Their food choices are rather limited, although I'll say the sides are delicious. I'd like to see some new ideas. We came here on a Tuesday for a T-Mobile special we had that gave us a free sandwich and side. To start off, this place seems very popular as we came around lunch time and it was pretty busy with people picking up orders! secondly, the customer service was great! The cashier handled the rush with ease and kindness, she didn't seem flustered. Instead, she was welcoming! The food was also really good, we got the brisket and pulled pork sandwich and had fries as our side. We enjoyed our meal so much we plan to dine in next time! I have never been to a Famous Dave's BBQ, the one by me up north closed. I came here with my family who lives in the area and frequents this place often.There were 12 of us. I wasn't sure what to expect. The menu has so much to offer. This place is not just ribs. They serve several types of Burgers, Catfish Fingers, Salmon, Salads, Chicken Sandwiches, Signature Sandwiches and of course Barbecued Meats. My table started with Chicken Strips, and Burnt Ends. My favorite was the Burnt Ends. (Tender pieces of Texas Beef Brisket seared and caramelized with Sweet & Zesty BBQ sauce. They were really good.) The Chicken Strips we're good too. For my entree I ordered 4 bone St Louis Style Rib Dinner. ( 4 St. Louis style ribs, smashed garlic red mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, and cornbread muffin. My ribs were tender, smokey and delicious. I'm used to baby backs, these were huge. On the table was a choice of three different barbecue sauces from mild to hot. Sweet and Zesty, Rich and Sassy, and Devils Spit.They were all really good. My favorite is Devils Spit. The staff here are all very friendly and welcoming, especially my waiter Tyler. He made really good suggestions for our group. He was very patient, knowledgeable and brought our food out very quickly. Tyler was definitely a good waiter. Famous Dave's does have a liquor license. I ordered two blue moons. This place is definitely kid friendly, and they do offer kids meals. Everyone ordered something different. The Burnt Rib Dinner, Cedar Plank Salmon, Pulled Pork Sandwich, 2 Meat Combo, and of course Brisket.Their Spicy Hell Fire Pickles are to die for. First, let me say that I love good BBQ and for me, that centers around the pork ribs. Second is that I'm more often than not, disappointed with chain BBQ restaurants. Dave's is the exception. They have every BBQ cornerstone covered, from pork ribs to brisket. Burnt ends, rib tips, and roast chicken, and plenty of Sides options, including tasty corn bread muffins. St. Louis style ribs are quite good, with a little charred bark, a proper chew and smoke ring, and served still moist. Only way they could be better is if they came directly off the grill to my plate still sizzling. But what really sets Dave's apart is their BBQ sauces. The sauces are distinctive and really tasty! My favorite being Devil's Spit. Delicious with a little pepper zing! Prices are very fair and servings size quite satisfactory. This is my first time ordering the Feast for 2 and it's a lot of food! It's a great way to try a bit of everything and really enough for 3 as a meal. 4-5 could share it as an appetizer tray. Last, but not least, is the friendly service We've received at each Dave's that I've visited. 1. The Famous Dave's Business Owner (FDBO) ignored the fact our waitress saw us on four successive times with our dog, beginning at the front desk, and ending with serving our food. If dogs weren't allowed in a restaurant--as stated by the FD manager--the waitress would have told us when we entered the place had the manager properly trained his staff. Note: We were in the restaurant long enough to had been eating our meals before the manager aggressively approached us. 2. FDBO improperly quotes Fairfax County regulation 6-501.115 (B), because that subparagraph pertains to dogs OUTDOORS, not indoors. The county health department validates this. 3. Our dog was not ON the table. Her front two paws were on the edge of the table. This is not how we trained her and we were correcting her. She was on a leash, not out of control, and this is key. Had the manager been a polite person, he would have asked us to keep her off the table. 4. FDBO characterization of the dog contaminating equipment is fabrication. Table cloths are cleaned after each customer. No restaurant equipment was near the table. FDBO should know service dogs are actually allowed in food prep areas. 5. According to our contacts with Fairfax County Health Department: They said: "...Fairfax County follows the rule that aligns with the American Disability Act..." Ribs were really BONEdry-did not come off the bone easily, and pork chops were dry as well - the beef brisket sandwich was just fatty- not beefy or meaty at all. Our service was not good, probably the worst service I have ever experienced. My friends and I were really craving ribs and wanted to have Famous Daves. We drove 30 mins out for this. My waiter Cory was hilarious and very helpful in suggesting the good stuff on the menu. I had the lunch menu with the two meats and did the ribs and pulled pork and they were both very delicious. This store would rather lose your business than give a customer a refund for items the customer declared were missing from the pick-up order. When you place an online order and go to pick it up, take a print out of your email comfirmation and make sure you review that you have every single item in the order before taking it out to your car. If you later discover that something is missing, take pictures of everything that was in the order, in original containers, so you can show proof of what you received. Otherwise, you'll end up in a frustrating he said-she said argument. Most retailers would rather pay the refund than lose a customer, particularly one that has provided repeat business and never complained before. They've lost my business. read more

We brought it to the server's attention and she said the manager's policy to charge as tea because it came with lemon. We were so flabbergasted, we said we will not be coming back out of principle.
