My son and I enjoyed our lunch, and the total was fewer than $30. For bbq, that's a hard to beat price. Staff is friendly, too. Last note, I think all restaurants should copy Famous Dave's idea of having a common sink outside of their bathrooms, for just hand washing purposes. This location is an order up at the kiosk station and they'll bring you the food as opposed to sitting down and ordering with a watt staff member. Nothing wrong with that but just an fyi for anyone more familiar with the sit and order method. There's a take out door and a sit in door but they lead to the same entrance. IThe service was friendly. I didn't have high expectations for the food--I thought it would be average fare, though I hadn't been to a Famous Dave's in a long time. I used to get just pork but since then, beef brisket has become my thing. I would have gone to a different bbq place but most places that specialize in bbq don't have "kid friendly" meals for my picky children. We made do with Famous Dave's. The roasted chicken was tender and juicy. The brisket was tender but weird in texture--like the brisket you get that comes vacuum seal packed and have to reheat, but not in a good way. The side salad was pretty large and standard though the cucumber could have been left off with the way it was looking (can't see it in the picture here but it had that thing were it was getting old and the flesh had changed color and opacity). The burger patty for the Wilbur meal was charred into coal. Not the best food experience here but people flowed in and out in a slow stream. I'm not sure why this is overall 3/5 I'm from Texas and this is closest thing you'll get to smoked in Minnesota! The chicken was extremely smoky and juicy! Flavor profile was perfect, just the right amount of spice and smoke. My shocker was the cornbread muffin, it was extremely tasty, wish I ordered 2. My only suggestion would be to spend a little more time perfecting the Mac and cheese, it was a bit on the bland side and too watery. A little more love and time with that and it'll be a hit! This particular evening my family and I were greeted by the most respectful and courteous young ladies. They were attentive and patient. They never rushed as our big family placed their order. The food was excellent as always. My leg quarter seemed a tad bit undercooked but the rest of the meal was scrumptious. Today the ribs (we ordered a platter for 3-4) were a bit tough and we told the wait staff. They took them back and gave us more and they were yet tough so we brought them home to reheat in the oven. The chicken and brisket, the beans and coleslaw and the fries and muffin were all good. I even ordered a small Banana Pudding which was good. However the kitchen staff need (the girls) need hair bonnets on their hair and gloves on. They were slinging their hair around and preparing food without gloves on and we noticed it after getting our food. This is not sanitary at all. I was very hopeful but alas it didn't pay off. The kids wanted Famous Dave's instead of our favorite BBQ joint off of Snelling. I checked Yelp and saw the listing. I was concerned but wanted to give the kids some say. We ordered online and I picked up. The lovely employee who was working the Take Out customer service counter couldn't have been nicer and confident in her role. She is the kind of employee any business would be lucky to have. A real star. Unfortunately, the food wasn't even worthy of a 3. The coleslaw was my favorite element. We spent over $115 before tip so we had a decent variety of options. Nobody ate more than 30% of their order. My ribs were tough, lacked smoke and just were tasty. They didn't taste like they were smoked low and slow. Maybe baked with little interest in the outcome. Another good experience at Famous Dave's - 4 stars. This is clearly one of the OG Famous Dave's full-service restaurant locations, complete with all of the awesome vintage decor. And they're right next door to Mickey's Diner, a true Twin Cities icon. Despite their old school status....and despite the fact that I've driven by this place 100s of times over the decades...this was my first time ever visit. Again, it was a good. I've never had a bad experience at any Famous Dave's location. And the 7th Street location didn't disappoint. The food was good, the service was good, and the décor is impressive. Solid location. Famous Dave's is a chain, and this one is an "order at the counter and they bring the food to you" kind of spot. Looks like you can reserve tables here because we went when a group was having a party, but even then, service was pretty good. I love Famous Dave's bbq sauces and pulled pork. Wilbur's beans is also pretty good- nice and smoky. Although i liked the mac and cheese, there is corn in it, which was def a surprise. Sorry, we're rib-loving people, so we'll take them in pretty much any form we can get them. We ended up just eating the tips, because it's a rather generous portion. I'll be eating my ribs for dinner. We both also got broccoli. We do love their broccoli because they don't over cook it. A little black pepper on it, and it's perfect. I got the beans, to give them a try. I don't actually like baked beans, so it was a risk. I was reminded why I don't like them. Well, they appear to be pinto beans, which I hate all by themselves. The beans weren't terrible, tbh. I just don't like this dish, so we can't blame FD for that. The rib tips are great. They're meaty and a good size. I like to try the different sauce combinations when eating them. My favorite is the Sweet & Zesty mixed with the Devil's Pit. You can also never go wrong with the Rich & Sassy, of course. The service was quick and friendly, and I'm happy that Dave's has returned the focus on good food. Oh, the Sweet Tea is SUPER SWEET, so mix it with the unsweetened tea. The baby backs are back and so am I. I was eager for the return of baby back ribs to the local menu. It's workable for me with the excellent parking lot service. It's best to call in the service then call again when you arrive at the restaurant. There are parking spots designated for pick up orders. It couldn't be easier. I'm always ready for some good baby backs. They tossed in several packs of their own sauce with my full-rack order. I took the beans and mac and cheese sides. The ribs were tender, tasty and fall-from the bone smoked. The sauce was sweet and mild as I like it. The sides were in separate cups. The general manager reached out to me today and credited me to go back and try again. We used to go to this famous Dave's on a regular basis. It was really good. I've never seen a restaurant fall to such a low level of quality. The brisket is literally inedible. It is like bbq flavored chewing gum. The Mac and cheese is pretty much just watery noodles. The garlic mashed potatoes aren't any where near as good as instant mashed potatoes; and I'm not a fan of instant mashed potatoes. Even the ice tea is watered down. All that and the prices are as high as some of the fancy gourmet steakhouses in the area. Avoid this place. The bbq at Arby's is better than this joke of a "bbq shack" read more

How have I not yet written a review of any Famous Dave's location? Once in a while I will cheer myself up by cramming down some quality meat, usually at this location, and it routinely does the job. This time I got a two-meat lunch, which comes with one side and with more modest portions than the dinner version. It was over ten bucks, and I couldn't help but think about how other barbecue places give you a lot more food for ten bucks. But this food is GOOD. The meat is always really nicely cooked, and every side dish I've tried has been great. This time it was the mac & cheese, which is made very interesting with the addition of corn & peppers. And then there are all those sauces. No other barbecue place in the Twin Cities has such excellent sauces. I always make sure to try them all, eventually settling on the one that wins me over on that particular visit to squirt all over whatever is left. You know what I don't like? The paper they serve the food on. They give you an old metal tray, which is separated from your food by a thin sheet of wax paper. So when you cut your meat with a knife and fork, it cuts up the paper and those little bits of paper threaten to get into your bite. There MUST be a better way. But I still sometimes like to come to Famous Dave's for that yummy meat and sauce and other stuff. read more

I've had this Famous Dave's numerous times as I live nearby. We've done Bite Squad, takeout, and dine-in. I would say overall a dozen visits, for perspective. Downhill fast is the best way to put it. The last few times we've had their food have just been steadily worse. The details: 3-4 times ago we discovered the change in "famous fries." These are now regular fries. Not the famous Dave's wedge fries we know. 3 times later, well, it looks like they just changed the fries. Don't know if that's location related but it's a negative. A huge one. The fries are famous for a reason, people. They NEVER give us the kids meal drink with takeout. We order it as it does come with the meal, and we never get it. Once we remembered to ask for it, and got half a plastic cup of chocolate milk (she didn't want to open a new jug?). Last time (takeout), I ordered a soup, baked potato, and salad. I got a coleslaw instead of a salad. The receipt said salad with ranch. I don't know how you confuse that with a coleslaw. Not fun when you get it home and find it. Short answer: The food wasn't very good. Longer answer: Just a little before noon, I was on my way to the airport when I drove by Dave's BBQ. I decided to drop in and give it try rather than stand in line at the airport for chain food. Although I was pleased with the ample parking, the largely empty lot around noon on a Friday should have been a trigger for me to at least check Yelp before going inside. In their set up, you place your order with a cashier, who then gives you a sign with your order number. Next, you choose your own table, get your own drinks, and a server will bring your feed to you when it's ready. My food showed up in about 10 minutes, which was great. I ordered the BBQ chicken and pork ribs based on the cashier's recommendation, along with a side of BBQ beans. When my food arrived, my first thought was, "It look's good." However, the instant I bit into the chicken, I realized that whomever cooked the food didn't know how to prepare BBQ. Although the meat wasn't raw, both the chicken and ribs had clearly been cooked quickly at high temperature and with no smoke infused flavor. I grew up in the South where we take BBQ seriously. She apologized, took the ticket and said they would START making the food, they hadn't even started the food, no one had come over to check on us and they didn't offer anything for the inconvenience like other places would.
