I'm basing my review off two separate visits: one in person outdoors, one through UberEats. During my in-person visit, my food was undercooked though tasty, the waiter was very personable, and they were doing great distancing and mask requirements. When I ordered through Uber Eats, my expected wait time was 45-55 minutes, but it took over an hour for the restaurant to even begin preparing our meal. When they did, the omelettes in the order we're packaged backwards. We noticed after eating a few bites. There was also a whole chunk of seasoned potatoes in the grits! The UberEats driver was great, but I won't be going back to Famous Toastery again. read more

We checked it out since we've lived in the area since September and had eaten at Brig's and the Egg & I a number of times and thought we'd give something else a try - how hard is breakfast to make anyways? Well this place was awful. The French toast I ordered wasn't even cooked. It literally tasted like a piece of bread right out of the plastic bag. Worst experience ever on Fathers day. I was quoted 40 minutes and the hostess were going by the size of the party vs when you actually checked in. I waited almost a hour before we finally got seated. The hostess was legit arguing with me telling me I didn't get here when I said I arrived. They had no system and was using a scratch piece of paper and no times were recorded when checked in. How can they see how long someone has been waiting? When I asked to speak to the manager I was told now wasn't a good time by the hostess. When we finally got sat our server may have said 3 words to us the entire time. I have been a server before and know that holidays are busy but customer service is important because you just lost one. Customer service is everything and when you have a hostess arguing with me instead of trying to fix the problem that is terrible. Will not be coming back. read more

I would give this place 3.5 stars compared to 4. Mom and I went on a Monday and there was no wait. The BLT was great, the service was fast. The prices were a little high in my opinion, but comparable to other places around. The bathrooms were also very clean. I don't know if I would go out if my way to come here again. It's similar to other restaurants that have popped up around the triangle. It isn't anything special. However that being said, it isn't a bad place to eat. read more

I'd have to say that on this day the service was below average. Had to go get our server to tell her we were ready to order. Although we told her we needed separate bills it all came on a single bill. I understand that it may have been a new POS system (Point of Sale) however business hours isn't the type to try and figure out how it works. This was a week morning and business professionals who take time to find you shouldn't have to go through this. Food - it was ok and I mean ok. Could've gotten the same thing at any breakfast brunch restraunt. To set yourself apart polish your staff and when you set a group in a room by them self - don't make them come find you. read more

I can swear the sign says Famous Toastery, so I am not sure why this location is named Toast Cafe on Yelp. We were walking around Waverly Place on one of those days when it was too cold for a walk and just wanted to go inside instead. Debating whether to try Taziki's across the street or Toast. As I walk up to look through Toast's window, an older gentleman holds the door open and tells me to go right in and how there's no better option in the area and how he has been going there for three years, then tells me what are you scared of son!!! At this point I didn't feel like being rude and walking over to Taziki's. But, I am glad I went into Toast! There is a nice lively diner ambiance here with a lot of uncomplicated diner food. I thought there would be just a lot of different kinds of toast, but I didn't really see much of it on the menu. It was full of people as early as 11.30 on a week day and a line of people waiting for a table. A lot of older people dining here. I had been meaning to come here for a long time, always thought it was a small cafe, but it is actually quite spacious with a lot of tables. All servers are friendly and very energetic. Apparently the concept here is that you don't have a designated server for your table and you can flag down any member of staff for anything. Which I think you should be able to do at any restaurant anyway, but the server made a point to make me aware of this at the beginning. The Crab Salad Roll didn't look as appetizing as I thought it would. Little bit grayish mixture of crab meat. It is served on iceberg lettuce and two white rolls. My one main issue with Toast is the portion size, there is not enough food, well not for these prices. I actually thought everything would be a bit cheaper. I had to take food off of the plates from my fellow diners at the table in order to get full, which is never a good sign. I ordered a cup of soup on the side. The Crab Salad Roll was supposed to come with cucumber salad on the side, but the server said he had intentionally changed the salad for the soup. This confused me, I did get my soup, but not my salad. I don't really like the idea of servers editing my order without informing me. But not a big deal. The turkey sandwich wasn't big enough for lunch either. But overall it was a tasty sandwich on whole wheat bread. The New Yorker was a good amount of potatoes and the quality of salmon was good, nice thin slices. I waited twodays to post this so I could really think about my experience on Monday. I was having brunch around 10:30am with a couple in their late 60s. It was my second time and their first. It will be all of our last time at any Famous Toastery. The interior is showing its age. Actually it looks like it is from the 1990s. One of us was served a beverage COATED in baked on cheese/dressing? It was not fresh but gross nonetheless. The replacement cup and all of our cups were cracked and stained. Very unappetizing. They had the thinnest "tinny" silverware that were also dirty. Our table was dirty. I know waitstaff is hard to come by right now but everyone working looked haggard and zoned out. I hope they are ok. The food is the star of any restaurant though-unfortunately our food was off off off broadway. The veggie omelette came with no cheese. When we asked about it we were told you had to ask for it. So I will say you will get exactly what you ordered and your waitperson might not tell you the options. The "breakfast potatoes" were a mashed soggy salty mess. They were out of avocado (understandable) My Cali benedict was flavorless on stale English muffinswith spinach as substitution for avocado-thank goodness I suggested it as I believe it would have just been served without). I asked for two orders with overmedium eggs. Mine was well done and the other was over easy. Suffice to say one of us only had toast and the other two just ate the eggs and a bit of potato. The coffee was burned and very bitter. $50 for an "omelette" and 2 veggie egg benedicts and 1 coffee was not worth tge price. You are better off Waffle House or Panera. read more

Let me first start off by saying I rarely write reviews. What I ordered (The New Yorker), was delicious and the staff was friendly...when they actually talked to me. My server got my drink, disappeared for a bit then someone else came and asked if I needed to place a food order. Odd but ok. In the time I waited for my food I watched multiple waitstaff members chumming it up with other guests nearby. The same people who walked by me without a word. My food was delivered to the table and it looked great. I sat there eating and watched as more guests were sat, all with an attentive and friendly server. Coffee and tea were offered and jokes were made. I continued to eat while servers continued to pass me by like I didn't matter. Sure I was acknowledged here and there but not with the same enthusiasm as everyone around me. I saw another reviewer point out how this place lacks diversity in their clientele but that doesn't usually bother me. I don't know if it was because it was just me or because I am a young woman of color but this place left me dissatisfied and slightly uncomfortable. read more

We finally tried this place, late morning on a Tuesday. We got sat right away, but it was still busy. The seating was not dreadful, but it was not comfortable either. We both had the "Left coast BLT" with the new potatoes. My BLT had just two slices of bacon on the whole sandwich! I liked the pesto mayo and avocado tho. The potatoes were ok, but not very hot. Bad food, horrible service, and the cook doesn't know how to prepare an egg. The staff is very unfriendly and the food is awful. 4 people for breaskfast and one meal was sent back 3 times, until we gave up. Then the check comes and we were told it was discounted, but looking at the bill we were charged for more meals than the discount. If I could give negative stars I would. I visited this restaurant for the first time yesterday. The young man that took my order was pleasant enough however that is where everything I can say positive about my experience ends. That same young man proceeded to watch me stand there for 30+ minutes in his comings and goings and never once checked to see what the problem was with the delay of my order. As did multiple other staff. After watching several other customers come in, be seated, order, eat and pay I decided to request a refund. I was told it could be done later. A manager had to come out and do it. After requesting some type of documentation showing a void before I left the young lady assisting me went into the back to get a manager, I presumed, which was great because I wanted to speak with them about my experience. However she came out with a piece of paper showing the void. I left but once in the parking lot decided to go back and ask to speak with the manager. The same young lady disappeared to the back again, came back out and said nothing to me. 7 minutes later she looked at me and said the manager will be here when she can. I waited a little more than 5 more minutes and then asked for the name of the manager in the back that refused to speak with a customer. To my utter shock the name given was Amalya Wright who happened to be the general manager according to two business cards I picked up by the register. It's not surprising the staff behaved as they did. The lack of caring trickled down from the top. It's a wonder this place remains in business with customer service like this. It was a miserable experience. And not just for me. There were two other gentlemen waiting for orders, one working with a meal delivery service and the other for a personal order. Toast Cafe is a new addition to the revitalized Waverly Place shopping area. My wife had joined a friend for lunch there last week. She really wasn't impressed with the lunch meal, but suggested we try it for breakfast. Our review echoes almost entirely the observations of the reviewer who enjoys Brigs as the go-to breakfast place in the area. We really enjoy Brigs as well. Toast Cafe will likely not see us again. As the previous reviewer stated, the breakfast entrees are pricey - starting at $9.99 for an omelet meal. I ordered an omelet and my wife had the Avocado Bennie. The food options sound creative, but the execution leaves much to be desired. I have never before complained that my food arrived too quickly, but there's always a first time. When our meals arrived just moments after ordering, I was suspicious. Granted, the restaurant only had a couple other tables occupied early on this Sunday morning, but I wondered how they could prepare our meals with such alacrity. As it was was, they were both cold inside. It was obvious our entrees were prepared with good, fresh ingredients, but the rushed preparation meant my wilted spinach was very cool, and my wife's avocado was also cool to the touch. Her meal was advertised as coming prepared with Cajun spice and pepper-jack cheese. We have neither tasted anything so bland, let alone a meal meant to be served with a "kick". The only flavor came from the cheese, and even that was quite modest. My omelet was also bland - not even the gruyere cheese gave it any flavor. The eggs were barely cooked and cool, and the wilted spinach and mushrooms seemed to have spent minimal time in the pan over the heat. I'll gladly pay $9.99 for a great breakfast entree, but the food here was just not flavorful, and I had to beg for coffee refills. I'll stick with breakfast at Brigs. read more

If you're gonna market yourself primarily as a breakfast place, AND you're going to charge $11 for a plate of Eggs Benedict and a small cup of fruit then your execution had better be perfect. Unfortunately, while the distance between soft poached eggs and hard poached eggs is significant, it wasn't too far for the chef at Toast. Both plates of Eggs Benedict were ordered soft, and came out with the yolks completely cooked. The hollandaise was okay, but couldn't make up for the overcooked eggs. On the other hand our server was exceptional- very friendly and attentive. Despite this, I still walk away disappointed in Toast. read more

I had breakfast here on Wednesday, October 9 after hearing Toast in Waverly Place had recently opened for business. I was not impressed, but neither was I put off. In a nutshell, Toast is simply okay. I was greeted warmly and seated promptly. The menu was not terribly different from other breakfast restaurants, and pricing was in line with the competition. My eggs and potatoes were good but not special. The coffee was good but not refilled often enough. Ironically, my dry rye toast was the weak link: barely toasted and a touch cold. All things considered, it looks like the breakfast experience is driven more by location than by quality. If you live close, it's worth visiting; if not, the breakfast restaurant closest to you will more than suffice. If you do go I suggest you ask that special attention be paid to your toast. After all, it's their name and should be something they do well. Prompting should not be needed. read more

I can't explain why I thought it would be a good idea to try to catch up with an old friend at 10 on a Sunday at a breakfast place, but I did, and was very surprised that we only had to wait about 5-10 minutes for a table. The interior is eclectic and pretty, with a double-sided fireplace sitting in the middle of the dining room. We were seated near said fireplace and promptly greeted by our server. I struggled with the menu because everything is overpriced. Breakfast is an inexpensive meal to prepare by nature -- I couldn't justify a $10 omelette or flapjacks. I ended up getting an english muffin and enjoyed that with some apple butter and a hot cup of coffee. I would've ordered the fruit bowl but it had blueberries in it (which I'm allergic to -- stupid, right?) and mostly melon so it didn't seem worth it to ask to take the blueberries out. I'm sure their dishes are lovely (and they better be at $8-11!) but I don't think I'll return for breakfast. read more

We had brunch here on Sunday and it was fantastic! We got there around 1 PM and saw several people waiting outside, but I think they had finished eating and were just shooting the breeze. We were immediately taken to a table, where our server took our drink order. The drinks (which were very good) came out in less than five minutes. I ordered the lobster Benedict and my better half ordered an omelet. The food came out in probably 5-10 minutes, which was enough time to enjoy our spicy Bloody Mary and Bellini, which were both very good. The food was awesome! We noticed while we were there that the tables turned over quickly, so there wasn't a wait, and the staff likely makes killer money. The noise level wasn't bad at all compared to some of the other places we frequent, so having a quiet conversation is achievable, even when the dining room is full. They rush you throughout the process once you have been seated. Do not check on you except to take your plates. They watch to see when you take your last bite and then will take your plate right away. I wanted to tell them.. I get that you are trying to get other people in but guess what.. I waited too!?!? Ultimately it felt like "speed eating." 2. They do not offer omelets. They are more like egg wraps. Veggies are sautéed separate from the eggs (like 1.5 versus the 3 they advertise) and then the egg is layed on the plate with veggies layed inside. Nothing actually connects the egg and veggies. I did hear through another review that you can ask for any omelet to be made Into a scramble which would be more appealing than the omelet they offer. I've been twice as the first time was horrible but I'm always willing to accept that I could've had an abnormal meal and maybe the second try would be better. To bad that wasn't the case I had a lobster roll myself that I thought was actually pretty good so kudos there but my wife had a quiche that came out cold, like just out of the fridge. It was more than 20 minutes before we even saw our server again and I was done so we asked for the check and mentioned it to the cashier who removed it from the bill. That's the reason I was willing to try it again. The second time around I can't even remember what I ordered but the stuffed French toast my daughter ordered was the worst attempt at French toast I've ever seen. Each slice of bread was battered on one side only then cooked leaving plain white bread on the other. It was then smeared with the cold stuffing and slapped together forming a sandwich. This thing wasn't edible to me and even my 9yr old daughter wouldn't touch it. The French toast sticks across the way at B.K. are better than this.. I've been here twice now and really like the GF french toast. Good portion sizes. I think with my side sausage, they gave three patties. Cute ambience and fun place to catch up with a girlfriend while the kiddos are in school. Service is okay. Both times I felt rushed when they would put the bill on the table before we were even done eating. I think today, they even gave us the bill along with our food! And I think they asked me several times today if I was done with my meal. It wasn't very busy, so it wasn't like they needed to turnover the table. And since they seem to do a shared service, it's a bit confusing especially when trying to wrap up...three different people asked me if I was done with my plate and if I needed a take-out box. This is definitely the trendy breakfast/brunch spot in the area! It is usually packed on weekends for those times (I'm honestly not sure how it is at off-peak times) and they do a good job flipping tables to get more customers in. That said, it can get noisy, and it feels more rushed than relaxing to me here. I do think this would be a great spot if you have out of town guests and they want a good breakfast/brunch - they definitely have that! - but, to me, it just didn't seem special enough for a celebratory occasion and just a bit too busy for a relaxed family meal. The food was prepared quickly (a definite plus!), but after it was brought to the table, we didn't see any of our servers until we were basically finished. We had a few issues with our food, but we weren't given an opportunity to do anything about it. shrug. I'm guessing our table was just a casualty of Sunday brunch busy-ness. I'd be willing to give this spot another try if we didn't go at one of their busier times. I love this place. Usually my wife and I try to come at least twice a month. I'm a huge fan of the Benedict and the sausage gravy. I hear their bloody Mary's are out of this world, but we always eat on Sunday mornings - no alcohol before 12. Even when it's crowded, they get you seated quickly. The wait staff works as a team, so everyone is available to help. The only thing that "annoys" me is it seems like someone is checking on us every minute, so conversations often get interrupted. Most painful 1.5 hours for a mediocre omelet I've experienced ever. Bad service- slow, inattentive, poor attitude. We were "greeted" by a doordash counter waitress who directed us to move down a few seats at a first come first serve section so that door dash orders could be picked up...no "good morning", no "can we get you started with a drinks". Nothing. We ordered at 10:09 and when 11:29 rolled around without food we were about to cancel when our order came to the table. The only competent person in the restaurant was the bartender who coincidentally was the only individual astute enough to realize our food hadn't arrived after an hour of waiting. Manager was completely incompetent and did not even try to either cancel our order or apologize for the situation. He simply buried his nose in an iPad and let his workers take the blows from unhappy customers. When it came time to pay for our food and drinks, I had to get the manager's attention since we were still being ignored. Again, the incompetent man didn't know how to (or want to) print out the receipt and take our payment, so he asked a waiter who had not taken care of us to do so. When we asked for the receipt, the waiter disappeared for another 10 minutes and then (with a ton of attitude) gave us the wrong receipt. We made all kinds of excuses for the staff: they're really busy, they're doing their best, it's Mother's Day and door dash is slowing them down... and in the end the joke was on us. In fact, as we left we deterred two parties from even entering the restaurant to save themselves the misery in Mother's Day. All in all, don't go here. read more

I was very excited to try Toast out when it opened.... and when we arrived I was a little skeptical to learn it was a chain. While it is a small chain, it hasn't grown too big for its britches! My husband and I arrived around 8:15 on a Sunday morning. It was pretty busy, only a few tables left open. We were greeted by a young lady who took our drink order and she quickly returned. About a minute or two later a server greeted us, shared specials, took our order and in less than 8 minutes we had a fresh, homemade, tasty looking breakfast in front of us. I ordered the quiche special with fruit while my husband ordered a meat heavy omelet with hash browns and toast. Everything, and I mean everything was amazing. Nothing was wrong, cold, or took too long. We were offered more than enough coffee. The portions were large, nobody is going to leave hungry. I really look forward to returning to this place and to bring friends. I just hope this place doesn't turn into a 'typical' chain restaurant. read more

I have held off writing a review to make sure that I went through the whole menu. The food us above average for what I would expect in a "chain" even though it is a small one. From what I have seen and tasted they use better than average quality ingredients which is a good start. The way the food is put together and presented is clean and tasty but nothing fancy. (How many ways should you really try to display an egg or sandwich though?) Their black coffee is great. They will give you one to go also which I like. The service is tops. Part of this is due to their "everyone is your waiter" methodology. I never have to flag someone down to fill my glass or bring extra hot sauce since we are checked on at a proper rate. The inside and outside of Toast is clean an functional. They have enough dedicated 2 and 4 tops to keep the flow of seating. It does get a bit loud but again that is to be expected. We are regulars here for many reasons and will continue this tradition. I have recommended this place to at least 5 people and have heard nothing but great reviews also. read more

I love this place! They have a great menu selection, and while the prices may seem a bit on the higher side, the portions are really decent. The first time I ate here, I got the apple cinnamon pancakes. These pancakes took up the whole plate and were delicious! I maybe would have liked to have seen a bit more apple tho. Second time I got an omelet which was great as well. Cooked to order and filled me up. The Bloody Mary's look legit although, I didn't have a chance to try one, my family loves theirs. If you're looking for a more affordable or smaller portion option, you can always order off the sides menu (1 pancake instead of 3, two pieces of French toast instead of 4). Great lunch spot! Located in Waverly Place in Cary, inside Toast is a nice mix of modern and rustic. We took my dad here around 11:45 today (Saturday) and had about a 25 minute wait. We didn't mind waiting though, they had a little station with coffee and mulled cider! So nice. The menu was full of classic lunch options (club sandwich, cobb salad, etc) and breakfast brunch (omelets, pancakes). They brought cornbread and apple butter when we sat down. We stuck with lunch and ordered the meatloaf sandwich, turkey rueben and lobster roll special. Service was great, fast, efficient - they work on a multi server system which feels little impersonal, but sure does get the job done - drinks were never empty, food was ordered and brought quickly, we were checked on several time. Meatloaf sandwich was great! Total comfort food. It was great to see that they nailed the lobster rolls as well - something a little different. I think next time I come I'll come for brunch - I got the feeling they had more interesting stuff on the brunch menu. Overall, it was a a good lunch, just nothing I haven't had before.
