This was recommended to me by the hotel staff and OMG I'm so glad I listened. I got there around 930, was sat right away. I ordered the Toastery Bowl with 1 pumpkin pancake. DELICIOUS!!!! This is a small place where you can order breakfast or lunch at any time. I ordered breakfast potatoes and mac and cheese simply because it was around 10am and I had the option. The breakfast potatoes were absolutely delicious. Mac and cheese was decent. There were 2 servers, both shared all of the tables. Both were friendly. Came here on a Monday morning for breakfast. 5 of us. We waited 15 minutes to get a seat. When we finally got our seats, we already knew our orders from waiting so long. Drink orders went in and asked if we could put our food order also. After putting the whole order in, food came out first in about 5 minutes. Found this convenient location in the center of uptown Charlotte, where there seem to be few breakfast options. The upstairs is a cute little spot, but don't get too attached to it, as they seat most customers down in the basement where the main dining area and kitchen is located. Service is fast, polite and attentive, and the menu offered plenty of breakfast/brunch options. I opted for the huevos rancheros w/ chorizo. Overall, I enjoyed this dish, but $16 for primarily black beans and two eggs seemed a little pricey. Especially because it could have used some toast to dip in the sauce, and coffee is another $4. For $20, I felt like I could have had breakfast in a nice hotel atmosphere rather than the windowless basement of Famous Toastery. However, the service is prompt, location close to many offices, and the food was good, so I returned a few days later and got the Classic Benedict w/ grits ($13) This was less successful. The Benedict was pretty basic and the grits were watery...not creamy, not cheesy, not flavorful. Even w/ the added cheddar ($1), the grits were runny. At least they offered me a refill of my coffee in a to-go cup this time, which was much appreciated. If you're in the area and looking for a quick sit-down breakfast to fill you up, Famous Toastery is a decent option for basic breakfast fare priced for the convenience of the uptown location. read more

Food 2/5 It was just OK. Ordered the French toast, biscuit, corned beef hash. The French toast was alright, the biscuit was too hard on the outside but the inside was flaky. The scrambled "eggs" were liquid eggs you'd find at a cafeteria so was very disappointed in that one. With the hash, we asked for eggs fried over well but they came out over easy. The hash itself was exceptional and had a nice crust to it along with good salty flavor. The smoked sausage was better than expected and had a nice pop to it. Service 5/5 This was amazing! The hostess to the waitresses were all extremely nice and brought us the many condiments we needed. Ambiance 4/5 A bit off putting as you walk in and see zero customers then they take your phone number and text you. After you're texted, you walk downstairs to where everyone is eating. Right off the plane and into downtown, this was my first stop when I came to Charlotte for a weekend visit. It was crowded and there was a wait. The wait was worth it. I ordered biscuits with gravy, eggs scrambled with cheddar, house potatoes, and candied bacon. All of this made me miss being down south. If you're looking for a breakfast spot that has poor service and riddled with incompetence then I have found the place for you! Picture this, you walk into a barren hotel lobby cafe themed restaurant that has a wait to be seated while there is barely anyone there. Once you get seated after waiting 20 mins with the crowd that has now accumulated at the front door, you get seated where you get to then wait another 20 mins to order, then another 20 mins to get that order then another 20 mins to get your drinks. Not including the times you have to ask to get water (3). Overall experience was abysmal. The staff are nice but they're either mismanaged or just that "slow." Food wise it's breakfast food, pretty easy not to screw up. Currently typing this in their bathroom while I wait for them to bring the check. I can stay in here another 18mins before that ever gets to our table so I have some cushion to explore the neglected abandoned offices that are right beside us. read more

I loved the downstairs area of the restaurant. This was by far one of the best mimosa flights I've had. As far as the food it was pretty good nothing too extravagant. The bacon was really good and the shrimp grits had so much potential but they were not hot. Our waiter was nice and attentive and the restaurant was clean. We've found they aren't all the same and the experience can vary but have never been really let down by any of them. This location was a little understaffed the day we went but it was also a very quiet day. Despite being outnumbered the staff did a great job and we had no extra wait for anything.
