I had high expectations for this spot given the strong reviews... and as someone who loves Szechuan, I love spicy food. Spice is my game! Unfortunately, it didn't quite deliver. Here's what I ordered: - Wontons in spicy chili garlic sauce: Tasty, but not spicy at all. The sauce leaned almost peanut like, which threw me off... - Diced chicken with crispy pepper: Small portion and mostly peppers. Very little chicken, just scattered pieces. Also not spicy. - Signature double cooked pork with garlic stems: Probably the standout. Flavor was on point and well balanced. - Shredded beef with hot pepper: Tender beef and enjoyable overall, but again, too many peppers and not enough beef! - Eggplant in garlic sauce: Solid. Hard to mess up, and they did it well. - Mapo tofu: Disappointing... bland and lacking the signature heat and numbing spice. - Pickled cabbage whole fish: Not what I ordered (I asked for soft tofu with fish fillet in chili sauce). This one missed completely--very sour, no spice, and not enjoyable. Drinks were underwhelming and barely tasted like they had any alcohol. Portions overall felt small. Given the hype, this was a letdown. For Szechuan food that should bring bold heat and flavor, it came across pretty mild and forgettable. Meh.

I've gotten food here a few times and it's always been fine, not great, but they're open late. Tonight's order was the last time I'll be ordering though -- I ordered Dan Dan noodles and what arrived was just plain dry noodles with about 10 small crumbs of ground meat on top. 0 sauce of flavor. It tastes like someone made plain pasta and called it a day. Calling these Dan Dan noodles is wiiild! I can forgive meh food but whoever is serving this definitely knows better and doesn't care.

Nice ambiance inside. It's self ordering with an iPad and the food comes out quite fast. I think out of all the dishes my favorite was the peppercorn fish. Very spicy and very crispy. All the dishes we had had good flavor and decently large portions. Nothing mind blowing but was a good meal!

This restaurant is hands down some of the best Chinese food I have ever had in my life. The flavors are delicious, spicy, and not what you find in most restaurants. The food is truly special. Service was good, they continually filled our waters and checked in. Food cane out relatively quickly as well for our large order. You order the food yourself on an IPad. Inside the restaurant is nice as well, the lighting and seating make it a great spot to socialize.

We stopped in for some dumplings and veggies and it was different than what we expected. We mostly wanted to go for the happy hour which was an appetizer and drink for $15.99 but the happy hour started at 9:30pm and ended at 5pm. Disappointed for sure. The drinks we got were ok but not something we would order again, especially the piña colada. The wontons had a thick wrapper but tasted good but the green beans were the best part. Lots of garlic and seasoning. It was cozy inside and service was nice.

I swung by here for dinner with friends on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. Service here was good, but not as attentive as I would have liked (I had to ask them repeatedly for things such as water or an extra plate). We ordered their dumplings, truffle XLB, beef pancake, ho fun, and cumin lamb. I thought both dumplings were good but the skin was too thick and the truffle in the truffle XLB wasn't very fragrant. I loved the beef roll/pancake, however. I was super flavorful and both savory and sweet, with lots of meat and sauce. The ho fun was alright. Although it was full of shrimp, the noodles were very soft and fell apart easily (it felt overcooked). The cumin lamb was also way too salty for my liking and required rice to enjoy it with. Overall, I think there are better Szechuan spots but they do have some good menu items.

I've seen this place on my way home quite a few times and decided to stop in for dinner. It was a quiet evening with only a few tables seated, but everyone would content with what they dishes. The staff is professional, personable..... this is in addition to actually placing your order on a tablet. The table is set with salted peanuts and tiny mala spiced veggies, which I saved to put on the rice, uuuughh sooooo good. I decided on the specialty fried rice, containing beef, chicken and shrimp. It was definitely a good choice. It was fresh and delicious and it came out really fast..... faster than the spring rolls, lol. Ive found my local Chinese spot

delicious! highly recommend. we walked in saturday evening and it was packed, but the wait wasn't too bad luckily! staff was attentive and kind. our food came very quickly and there are complimentary pickled cabbage and peanuts (ifykyk). you order from an ipad and they bring your dishes to you. we got the green beans and beef ho fun which were both amazing! the double cooked pork was okay, and they subbed the vegetables without gviging a heads up but nbd. We also got drypot beef (so good) with fish filet, bamboo and cabbage. very flavorful and the mala felt authentic. it's a warm and cozy environment and overall great value!

We chose Fan Szechuan because we wanted a true Szechuan experience. The restaurant is nice, sharp and look new. It's clean and modern inside. The staff are very nice. Service was excellent. We ordered 2 Szechuan dishes and both were almost identical. It didn't seem that way in the menu. Sadly the chicken dish had tons of bones and it was extremely salty. Almost inedible, in fact we bailed on it and ordered another dish.

Probably closer to 3.5. The food was nice, but not that memorable unfortunately. I did love the little nibbles to start and enjoyed the mapo tofu, just not the best I've had in the city. Staff were lovely and space is very warm and inviting.

This place is a newer addition if Szechuan food in the LES and it was pretty good! the inside of the restaurant was super modern and we ordered off Ipads. the food itself was so tasty and flavorful! the cucumber salad was refreshing and a great addition to all the spicy food we were eating. My favorite was the lamb, it was spicy and rich in flavor. the fish was also so good and tender. the chicken was meh for me, but my boyfriend loved it. great food and service overall but a bit pricey as an FYI!

Amazing service, chic atmosphere, great portions! My partner and I came to Fan Szechuan recently to satisfy our szechuan cravings, and it hit the spot. We ordered 4 dishes, which was more than enough to feed two people plus leftovers. Cold sesame noodles were pretty good, though a bit more garlic-forward than others I've had. Wontons were decent, maybe not the most flavorful in the city but still solid. Black Truffle beef fried rice was more subtle than I expected but we loved the amount of egg in it and it paired well with the other dishes. The chicken & dried peppers had a pleasant mouth-numbing sensation though less spicy compared to others I've had (and a bit more juniper-forward?). The service was friendly and food brought out quickly. They handed us an iPad to order but were able to answer our questions on the menu.. Perfect for introverts! We were happy to have tried it!

We kicked off our lunch with the Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, which were like little pockets of heaven (light, fresh, and delicate). Then we tried the Thinly Sliced Cucumber and Pork, it was my first time trying this and I almost ate the whole row by myself. The Traditional Fried Rice was comforting and crispy. The Szechuan Peppercorn Fish Fillet was a tender and also made our mouths tingle with that signature numbing heat. I had to order the Sautéed String Beans and the Sizzling Beef. The true star of our lunch was the Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Mustard Greens. It was rich, tangy, savory just perfection in every bite. The space is perfect for big groups. I went with 2 others and we shared so much food for under $150 and had leftovers. This was a great place to catch up with friends. . Everything we ate listed below: Crystal shrimp dumplings Thinly sliced cucumber and pork Traditional fried rice Szechuan peppercorn fish fillet Sautéed string beans Sizzling beef Braised Pork Belly with preserved mustard greens

When we…read morediscovered the Koreatown Nan Xiang was right around the corner from our hotel this visit, we made it a priority to visit, and we brought friends who were new to soup dumplings (XLB). There was a wait list to get seated when we arrived but the process was simple and moved quickly, and service was prompt and food came out quickly. We ordered both the standard pork XLB and my faves, the pork and crab ones, as well as pan fried pork dumplings which I was surprised to discover were also full of soup, chicken corn dumplings, and two noodle dishes: rice cake with pork & mustard greens, and pan fried noodles with beef. Servers were conscientious about allergies and very specific about letting us know which items were which, but other than that were largely appropriately hands off. They did ask us, mid-meal, if it would be ok if a service dog were at the next table to ours, which I thought was courteous. (The service dog was adorable and well behaved.) All the food was fab, which we expected. It's nice to come in a group and be able to order more items for a greater variety. The rookies executed well (and thanked us for the instructions on how to eat XLB to avoid getting soup everywhere) and were pleasantly surprised by my longtime favorite, the rice cake and mustard greens. I'll need to remember that the pan fried pork dumplings also have soup, because I really liked the texture of them. Such good food, and as always, better shared with friends.

I really liked the scallion pancake and eggplant. The pancake wasn't crispy/dry, but rather the exterior was crisp and the inside was still a little soft/fluffy. It's the first time I had a scallion pancake that wasn't just straight dough inside/outside, or so thin that it got crisped out. I really liked this texture profile though. The eggplant was 10/10; the eggplant was cooked well, so tender but not soggy. The sauce was really good too such that it was sufficient spice but not flaming. Would recommended. I enjoyed the cucumber salad and tofu as well, but have had better. Seasoning and prep were good though -- although the tofu was cooked so tender (or maybe was silken tofu to begin with) that the whole table was struggling with carrying it from plate to mouth -- heh. Food came out very quickly; staff were friendly, efficient, and helpful. Decent amount of seating with a cozy vibe. It was a good meal, not my favorite Szechuan spot, but definitely hit the spot.
