Food is usually fresh and tasty but they often mess up the order. They usually don't give enough rolls for the amount of people that you are ordering for. Boneless pork ribs can be fatty,dried up or good, you never know. Last 2 orders had wrong items so they need to pay closer attention when making up your order! Once was a great place to enjoy some moderately priced so-called Chinese food with a decent lounge. Those days are long gone. Food is fair at best, prices in the lounge are ridiculous and the two male bartenders they have there on the weekends are nothing short of rude and they make it like you are there for them, and you are putting them out if you order something. I only come here like once a year and there's good reasons why. Every time I come here the waitresses are very rude and pushy. They rush and cling dishes around. You can obviously tell the food is just pre heated and served; comes out within minutes. The bread tasted stale and cold. Does not taste fresh. For several years Fantasy Island has had ups and downs with the quality of their food. Well I should have listened to a friend who recently told my husband and me DO NOT EAT THERE. We decided after doing a lot of errands on this cold and windy day, it would be nice to get a couple of lunch specials, take them home and eat them in the warmth of our house. Big mistake. It was just terrible, just awful, so bad that I threw out a good portion of the food. Pork lo mein with no pork, moo goo gai pan which is supposed to have slices of white meat chicken had globs of chicken that had some kind of batter on it. I really felt like this food was leftover from Friday night and reheated. The pork friend rice in my husband's lunch was MUSH. Very disappointed and will never order from there again. read more

Yeah, Kowloon is the best. But a solid second goes to Fantasy Island. If you're a lounge lizard, it's an interesting take. Despising kareoke, I always head for the dining room. The apps are awesome and I rarely get past that point, ordering several and calling it a day. When I do order entrees, they never disappoint. I especially love the 2-side crispy lo-mein-what a treat! Service is superb and the decor colorful. Their take-out service is tops. We order our Christmas eve party feast to go every year and people just rave about it. Maybe this review is a bit bias as I am a regular, but it is one of my favorite places to go for Chinese food. Love the food here and usually order the same thing every time I''m here. The prices are affordable and the portions are generous. The drink selection is fantastic as well, highly recommend the scorpion bowl. we usually love fantasy island but havent been for a year. we went tonight and i have to say the service was so bad we almost walked out. and i think many other tables felt the same way. i hate giving negative reviews but i want them to stay in business. no one came over to us for 20 minutes and it was dead there in the dining room. then i had to keep getting up to get things i needed or ask another waitress for something. this was a disappointment and i think they will suffer if they dont make changes and i want them to suceed. i hope management takes action. i dont think we will ever return. not even sure if ill do take out. thats how slow and bad service was and i live in swampscott . not sure why its saying cali read more

I'm always happy when I order from Fantasy Island. My go-to order is the General Gao's Chicken and beef lo mein. The food is always hot and flavorful, the General Gao's chicken is all tender white meat. They give good portions for the price and are my favorite Chinese takeout option in the area. read more

I got General Tsos Chicken and Pork Fried Rice through Door Dash. All I can say is meh. Chicken was dry and over cooked and rice had a funny flavor to it. It was a very large portion for the price so that's a plus but that can only get you so far when the large portion of food isn't good food...Other than that, the food was packaged well for delivery and came with some bread which was interesting I suppose. From the creepy parking lot to the "lounge" with prominent keno cards, this establishment rang all the seedy bells. So, SO glad we decided to hit the bar before deciding if we wanted to eat here. Is it possible to give no Stars? This is, by far, the worst place we've ever been to and we are self proclaimed, professional diners. We were visiting from Austin, Tx and were very quick to search out a local karaoke venue. This is the place that came up, too bad. It was a waste of our time and money, from the over priced drinks, horrible food, and awful karaoke. Having teeth pulled might have been more enjoyable. The service was rude, when we managed to even get our servers attention. I attempted to send my soup back, because it tasted awful and was quickly told to talk to the manager. So I said, "Okay, can you please get her for me?" to which I was told "No, get her yourself." ...excuse me? It was definitely the worst Chinese food I'd ever had and I've had a lot over the years, you could get better at a fast food joint like Panda Express and better service I'm sure. We found a great little karaoke place over in Salisbury (we were staying in Danvers) and yes it was worth the drive to Chef Howie's Hobo Cafe, and we drove it for the next three nights of our stay. Enjoyed a delicious meal on NYE. A special limited menu was offered, but they had all of the essential staples! Best crab Rangoon around, piping hot, not overly greasy, and super stuffed. Horrible! We drive by this place all the time and decided to finally try it. We ordered delivery so I can't speak for the drinks which seems to be their strong suit. Everything was tasteless and so bland. Additionally, there were no prices on the menu so I was a bit shocked by the price. We paid nearly $40 for 2 egg rolls, small chicken fingers, large rice and aromatic shrimp. They also have a $3 delivery charge. I love this place! I used to live in the area and would go there all the time now I even drive back an hour to go sometimes...was just there a week ago and it was just as good as always! The only item that was enjoyable was the wonton soup. My husband's chicken (Gen Gau) was very dry (sitting around too long under a heat lamp?) and the sauce was uninspired sweet sauce. BUT when we ordered our drinks they gave one person the wrong drink and then when we told the waitress we were ready to order she said "5 minutes!". I sat at the bar rather than the dining side. It was karaoke nite and they had a pretty good crowd and plenty of bad singers. Their food was overall below average. The rice has the dried out and reheated soy sauce taste. Other than the steak teryak (Average)i, the appetizers on the Pu Pu Platter (Chicken and Shrimp) were more batter than chicken or shrimp. I don't order a Pu Pu Platter thinking "health food" but even this mass of grease and batter just wasn't worth cheating for. The crab rangoon was chewy rather than crispy and trying to get service from the bartenders for an extra napkin or hot sauce was a challenge The drinks were inconsistent and overpriced. The bathroom was a cesspool of smells...they definitely need some work done in the Men's! If you are visiting Salem area avoid this place. If you live or are in the area a lot and looking to satisfy your desire to pig out on Chinese food, get take out at China Green next to the Swampscott Train station or stop in the Gourmet Garden in Swampscott, both are far better than Fantasy Island and less than 5 minutes from them. I have been here a few times for karaoke and drinks. The karaoke is just ok. It is a paper system not computerized. The singers are all over the map so anyone could feel comfortable singing. I'm a sucker for these mega-tacky, over-the-top Polynesian "Chinese" food joints. Give me a tank full of tropical fish and an extravagant chalice full of a rum cocktail and I'm a happy lady. Fantasy Island is about a mile from my childhood home, and the way rocky coastlines or green parks may conjure up the halcyon days of youth for some, it's this restaurant that does it for me. I love reading my Chinese horoscope on a placemat while waiting for my fried rice and chicken chow mein. i finally ate here and, i must say, i'm super impressed with the food. when you get the orange chicken, it's actually REAL CHICKEN! as in, the chicken is identifiably white meat with a thin, light, crispy layer of fried. as in, it's not all fried breading weirdness with a tiny dot of grey, unknown "chicken" product inside. that alone is worth the trip. everything else is pretty standard, but the higher end of standard. the pu pu platter was great, and slightly less greasy than most (although you can't get a pu pu platter that isn't greasy). the singapore style rice noodles were flavorful and weren't super spicy, as you'll get in most other places. i did miss the spice a little bit, BUT i enjoyed the fact that the spice didn't overwhelm and make it so that i can't taste the noodles. the waitstaff is very attentive and nice. i never went without water. read more

Pretty good, pretty standard Chinese food. They won't screw anything up, but it's not out of the ordinary. That said, I went to school at UMASS Dartmouth, near New Bedford, and the Chinese food there made this place taste like it should be some 5-star restaurant in Chinatown. Seriously, there's a lot of BAD Chinese places out there... and this is a pretty good one. Great lunch specials that could feed an army at 6 or 7 bucks. It's about as healthy as eating lard from the can, but oh-so-tasty and, luckily, not at all fulling... so the big servings come in handy =p I'll have to try the karaoke there sometime - sounds like a fun time.
