After a long day at work, came home and accidentally fell asleep. When I woke up it was after 10, I had nothing in the fridge, and I am hungry! Unfortunately, just about everything is closed including the supermarket. So I checked with Siri to see if anything was open, and was pleasantly surprised to see that fantasy Island was open until 1130. I figured what the heck, let's give it a shot. I went in and was greeted at the door by your friendly woman, ordered the beef with mushrooms and asked if I could make a couple of alterations.she said no problem, I wanted to add some shrimp to it, did not care if I had to pay an additional price, so for three dollars I got to add four shrimp which I thought was a pretty good deal. I went to the bar to wait and it was kind of busy. I was greeted right away and ordered a drink. After about five minutes, and not getting the drink,, I wasn't upset but I told the bartender to forget about it, as my food was probably almost ready. Went back to work the lobby and the food was up. I took it home and wasn't expecting much, but it was delicious! The chopsticks and soy sauce were in the bag as I requested, and the funny thing was they actually gave you Bread. Never saw that before. All in all a very good experience. I would definitely order from them for take out again as the food was good, don't know if I would sit at the bar again though. But I will be back. read more

It used to be pretty good, Now it gets worse as time after the new owner took over. Had a delivery the other night. Chicken egg foo young that was so dry with some kind of greasy dark gravy that made it swim in a slime like manner. That got tossed down the disposal. What a waste. Vegetable Lo Mein was so bad I couldn't tell what if any vegetables were in the overcooked lo mein that was so greasy, that also was also not edible. So for a total of some 18.00 + tip . Little annoyed that we couldn't find any prices online, and they seemed displeased when we used their coupon from their website :) The pupu platter was tasty altho a little over breaded, some people complained on here about their thick sliced spareribs but we liked that. I loved their egg rolls. The lo mein was just ok, we've had better and also had much worse. Fantasy Island is my go-to Chinese place. I lived in middle america for 4 years and used to dream about coming home to get the fried rice and general Gao's chicken from Fantasy Island. Here's what makes it better than other chinese places: Chicken: Most chinese places have like horrible fake brown chicken. In every entree at Fantasy, they have white breast meat chicken. It's delicious. Recomment the General Gou's. PuPu Platter: best i've ever had. Everything is so good! I hadn't been there in about 5 years, so last night I decided to eat there. I remember the food being delicious, but what a let down. The food was AWFUL. I ordered chicken wing (no taste at all), house fried rice (I had to drown it with soy sauce and salt to get a taste out of it), chicken fingers ( they were also tasteless and bitter), general Gau's Chicken (was awful too) and fastasiasteak(sp?), which was the only item that was eatable. Not the best but far from the worst. Very nice staff and a fun atmosphere. The food is hit or miss. Some things I enjoy very much, others not so much, but I'd give this place a letter grade of a solid B. If you like teriyaki beef, try the Fantasteaks...its reason enough to try this place out. The only reason I am giving 1 star is because there is no option for zero stars. This place delivered a chicken plate for 4 when I ordered a kids chicken fingered plate for my daughter and insisted I was wrong and ordered wrong when i was vividly clear knowing that they play games. The waitress spilled my beer on my lap and after I paid my bill the waitress asked if we wanted one more drink I clearly said no to another drink and when we were leaving the waitress followed us to the parking lot with the beer in hand insisting we ordered the extra beer and that I pay when I never have more than 1 Beer if I am driving. On top of that we all got sick from the food I ate. This place plays games to build up the $BILL$. The food and the experience are not worth the trouble. The karaoke crowd is what keeps me coming back. Yeah none of the patrons can actually sing but the energy is great. The service is, at best, ok. If you're not spending big bucks the servers barely pay any attention to you. Also, my server tonight lied about prices. In the menu they hand out there is no option for 1/2 plates or sizes (of, for example, lo mein or chicken fingers) I asked the server if there were size options and she told me "no, just one size." I find a paper menu, that says "for restaurant, take out, catering and bar". Inside this menu are 1/2 plate options. I do not appreciate being straight out lied to. Fun place for large groups, girls nights etc. Prices on food and drink, both alcohol and non alcoholic, are moderately priced. Coming here will not break the bank but it's the kind of place where you try and keep track of what you're spending. Just make sure you are not being ripped off or treated differently due to the amount of $$ you're spending. read more

Came for the scorpion bowls and karaoke. Sadly, both were a disappointment. The scorpion bowl was more pineapple juice than anything, which while disappointing the most disappointing thing was the karaoke host. Fantasy Island is the absolute WORST Chinese food I've eaten on the North Shore, Their fried appetizers are disgustingly greasy and seem to be almost re heated rather than freshly cooked. The Barstaff acts as if they are doing you a favor when they take your order and honestly it took me forever to get their attention an a reletively quiet night. They were busy talking amongst themselves and watching a football game on the TV over the Bar. The best Chinese food I've had in awhile and I wasn't even craviing it that day. I sat at the bar and the service was excellent.

Still maintains similar taste and feel to old Dave Wong's China Sails. Long time waiters make you feel at home. Reasonable prices.

crab rangoons are the best around, prices are ok, atmosphere is weird, especially at night, but overall the best place around besides kowloon. skimpy on the rolls and fortune cookies if you get take out but ive never had a problem with freshness there. sometimes i get things off the menu and they do their best to accommodate me. very nice people i do not mind giving them my money read more

I will NEVER go to this place again. We had a party of 10 people for a birthday party. We went for karaoke, food and drinks. We ordered a bunch of food, all diff't types of drinks and did some singing. At 11:30pm the waiter comes over with the bill and asks us to cash out. The bill for 10 people with food and drinks came to close to $500 (which was reasonable for food and drinks for 10 ppl) But as we paid we realized we were being SHUT OFF!!! Not one person at our table was drunk. They said they were not serving any more liquor to our table and we were done!!!! I never in my life went to a place that didnt want to your money. well hate to complain but it bugs me when i get dirty silverware so had to ask for replacement. I also feel the brown rice i had was to dry along with the pork strips. This was our family's favorite Chinese restaurant for 40 years. Since the place changed ownership the food is darn awful. The meat is now oil tenderized which I have always hated when trying out other Chinese restaurants. The food does not appear to be cooked fresh to order. Vegetables in Items such as chow mein are definitely wilted signifying being kept warm for long periods of time instead being hot and crispy. The boneless spare ribs and chicken wings range in color from yellow to gray also signifying not fresh and reheated over and over. The lobster sauce was gray and watery and we never knew if it was going to taste like pork or ham. After giving the new management several chances over a period of 4-6 weeks, we have crossed them off our choices of places to eat permanently. We had been regulars ordering food 3-4 times monthly. We haven't been back since the beginning of the summer and are still mourning our loss. read more

I am very disappointed. Food has gone down hill. This place used to be where you go for Chinese food in Salem. If you have food allergies don't go here. If you like to feel like you are the customer and the restaurant will do what it takes to make you happy don't go here. I requested to add vegetables to one of the dishes and was told no. I asked for my food to be prepared with no MSG and was told that it is prepared with MSG. This tells me the food is prepared ahead of time. I have been to this place so many times before and have given them so much of my hard earned money and I tip over 20%. I brought a party of 25 people there and the waitress couldn't add vegetables or have a dish made for me. I am across the street eating while the party of 24 is there eating. In my opinion they need to understand that people have a choice where they spend their money and with the Internet word travels quickly when you are too lazy to do what it takes to make the customer happy. And we have caught this same waitress over charging us on multiple occasions so check your bill. read more
