I had just arrived in Bloomington when I wandered off the square and into the Farm. I loved the high ceilings and the outdoor tables. The waitress was so kind, she's a runner and I think she runs 4 miles a day (which is a lot in these pandemic times) and she just seemed like an awesome, engaged person. I had a sour, an espresso and a BLT. With fries. All good... the BLT that was actually the best BLT I've ever had. You know when they say that on the menu but you don't believe them? It was true. She also gave me a coffee-sized amount of espresso, and some for the road, which was great! All in all just a great introduction to Bloomington. read more

Went to Farm Bloomington on many recommendations from locals to university parents. Came in with a small group of moms and sons. Ordered drinks and clearly at the time of ordering drinks, they asked if we wanted appetizers. When I ordered my drink I stated that I wanted the brussel sprouts for my dinner and the others ordered appetizers. I shared with the two servers that I had to leave the party early as I had to travel 2.5 hours for work. The others received a brussel sprout order of which they shared, but I was waiting for mine as my main course. 35 minutes later everyones dinner arrived as order, except mine. 10 minutes later the servers appeared to tell me there were no brussel sprouts.... Where was the disconnect??? Where was any compensation or regard for my time when I clearly stated that I was in a time crunch and they knew i wanted them for entree, yet brought them out for the other table members as an app. When did they know they were out and why 10 minutes after everyone elses food was delivered was I just. made aware of this. Just left there. Positives. BLT was great. While there really isn't much lettuce the overall sandwich was delicious. My wife and daughter shared a burger and both said it was good. Service was quick and efficient. The reason for the downgrade in one star is that I had ordered a side of the garlic fries and they were lukewarm. Probably had been sitting for a while. My wife and daughter had regular fries and those too were lukewarm. If Wendy's can serve hot fries I think they can too. There is no reason to serve someone stale fries. read more

I visited Farm Bloomington for the first time this past weekend. I went for Sunday brunch with a group of friends. We called ahead to check the wait time, and we lucked out as there wasn't one, so when we arrived we were seated immediately without issue. The hostess took us through the restaurant to a back room seating area filled with larger tables. The first thing I noticed was the decor. It's very strange. The restaurant is, of course, called "Farm." And there are lots of "farm" decor pieces, including farming tools (think rusty old saws and gardening equipment) hanging on the walls. The strange part is that there is also a large tree in the back room that looks like it was once a prop in a play or something. And in addition to that, there is lots of Asian decor throughout the back room, that doesn't go with anything else in the restaurant. So, there wasn't really a consistent theme. After looking over the menu, I have to say, nothing was jumping out at me. My friends ordered mimosas and biscuits for the table. I didn't feel like drinking, so I didn't have any of the mimosas, but I did try a biscuit. They were served with butter and three different spreads - apple butter, strawberry rhubarb jam, and peach lavender jam. The biscuits weren't my favorite, I thought they were a bit dense, but the strawberry rhubarb jam was delicious! I opted for the Hoosier Poutine, which is a huge bowl of fries, smothered in sausage gravy, fresh cheese curds, and and two poached eggs. I have to say, this dish was absolutely delicious! Honestly, it was a bit much for brunch, but it was super tasty! And the serving was seriously huge. I ate until I couldn't eat any more, and I only had about half of it; and that was with some sharing around the table! Though I did enjoy the poutine, I highly doubt I will return to Farm. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't a place I feel like I need to visit again. I've only made one trip to Bloomington, but I definitely plan to return; and when I do I think I'll opt for another spot for brunch. read more

If you like sweet and "chocolatey", you will like this drink. I stopped in for a steak & egg breakfast. The steak was nicely prepared and looked great (thick and properly cooked to medium rare) Unfortunately it was so tough it was nearly inedible. I very rarely send food back (especially meat) since I hate to see it wasted. I have to admit though that if I had more time, I would have sent it back. Fortunately, I have good teeth and not high expectations for breakfast steak in general. Had brunch here while visiting my old adopted hometown and one of my besties who highly recommended it. I am always very suspicious of places that are overly hyped, but this place lived up to the hype surrounding it. I was worried about the service because college towns during the summer are usually fully of disgruntled townies or students who had to work instead of vacay...but this place was amazing! Our hostess immediately sat us at Noon on a Saturday and our server, Adam, was not only informative and attentive, he even provided a joke or two! We kind of gorged ourselves and had zero regrets! We started w/the 4th gen biscuit basket that comes with 3 jams and butter that are lifechanging. I'm sure I knew what they were when I was putting them in my mouth, but you know how you get ecstasy foodgasm amnesia? So, yeah, that happened. All I can tell you, is I did not want to stop putting them in my mouth, but I only got through one and a quarter because I needed to leave room for the Hoosier Poutine and Bison omelette I was splitting w/my BLP (Brunch Life Partner). We kept it spontaneous and added a side order of bacon. And, let me be the first to tell you, if this bacon were a man, I'd marry it! It was so perfectly seasoned and crispy w/just the right amount of grease to maintain its street cred. The bison omelette was extremely flavorful, though I do not know that I'd order it again. The potatoes that accompanied it were little tater nuggets of seasoned and textured perfection! My poutine was OK for what it was, but real poutine it was not. That's ok, I should have known better w/"Hoosier" in the title. The gravy and sausage were solid though and though there were way too many fries, it was still delicious and I had no order remorse. We also had cafe beverages. My friend had the raspberry mocha latte and it was seriously dessert in coffee form! I had their cold brew and wow...just wow! Well done!!!! I take my cold brew very seriously and there are so many places that just do not do it correctly, but here, they nailed it! I took one to go to keep the dream alive! FARM bloomington...September 2014 - 3 Stars: Neat little breakfast/brunch/dinner place just off the main square in downtown Bloomington, Indiana. Terrific ambiance, a large room that is pretty eclectic...i.e. quilts hanging from a large shower curtain rod subbing as a room divider - but they brought the whole thing off and it was a nice dining room atmosphere. Old wood floor, high ceilings with pounded tin fittings, a long bar/counter where they prepare all sorts of drinks and smoothies and schlep the bakery goods, and absolutely tons of natural light. Our party of three had the sweet waffle (nice waffle with mixed berries...the crisp waffle and sweet fruit combination worked perfectly), the classic eggs and bacon (very nice and offered with mixed fruit...the bacon was peppery but also a nice taste...the meal came with fries rather than hash browns and the fries were the ones they use in their poutine - very crunchy and peppery so I can see that they really rock the poutine), and lastly the brunch offering of a bacon potato soup (this was the only loser as it was very spicy...had jalapenos in it that made it not mellow at all...the name bacon potato was just a misnomer...if your are looking for a nice soft start to your day, this wasn't it). 4 stars for brunch, 2 stars for dinner so averaging it out to 3 stars. I loved my brunch experience here - it's super crowded though so be sure to make a reservation! I ordered the Bacon & Egg Pizza (two poached local eggs, Mariah's peppered bacon, baby spinach, & smoked gouda). The bacon was perfectly crispy. The crust is clearly "rustic" but really tasty AND portions were awesome so I had leftovers for the next day. As for dinner, meh. I went for a pasta on the specials menu because a) it sounded good b) it was Harry Potter themed! Unfortunately, the Pasta D'orr (pappardelle, Pork ragu, Forbidden Forest Mushrooms). The pasta came out with fettucine and the ragu was more like a stroganoff gravy - agh. Taste-wise it was fine but not worth the ~$25. My friend ordered the Indiana Puttanesca pizza - really interesting blend of Sausage, Chicken, Roasted Vegetables, Olives, Parmesan. There were also capers, goat cheese/ricotta in it! Farm is as cute as it comes. I'm a huge fan of the eclectic decor and laidback vibe it gives. The menu is just as unique as the place ranging from mini corndogs (which I was unimpressed with and would skip) to duck and stripped bass. There is something for everyone! I loved the duck entree and could have eaten two plates...but dessert awaited. After much back and forth we got the strawberry shortcake, but with a "4th generation" biscuit. It was scrumptious! Overall, loved the experience with Farm. Before leaving we went to check the bar out they have downstairs and had a completely opposite experience. Unwelcoming vibe and even more unwelcoming bar staff. Being out-of-towners we just wanted to get some info on the place and what was going on later tonight (they were setting up a photo booth) but the bar staff wouldn't even answer a question unless we showed IDs. That's fine, we were well over 21, but just wanted to ask a question and leave to check out the square and possibly come back later. That later did not happen. I went here 2 times because it was super close to my hotel and i really liked the environment. My first time I ordered probably the worst food off the menu but my margarita was so good I went back a couple days later just for a wonderful cocktail. After sitting there I was given a menu , completely different then the one a couple days before . I ordered a salad with chicken , it was delicious. I will come back to this place again , probably the best staff around great service . I also am eating keto , so things are limited besides a salad . I recommend giving this place more then one time visit , and try one of there cocktails! read more

Haven't been able to try them until now, I eat weirdly healthy and their menu has usually been almost all meat and fried foods (I'm low carb vegetarian), but I follow Chef D,Orr online and saw some limited time vegan and vegetarian specials posted so I was able to come in and try. They were really cool about letting me sub in some stuff for the items I can't eat which is appreciated, I was able to do the classic breakfast with no meat, a side of tofu scramble (only mentioned once in their menu under the avocado toast but they do have it), and sub the French fries for the home fries, all of it delicious! One cool thing to note, I LOVED how they do their side of avocado, you get some mashed avocado as well as some sliced and it comes with cilantro and tomatoes and pickled red onions, I get sides of avocado almost everywhere I go (great plant based protein), and this was the best so far. Unfortunately we went to try the vegetarian special options and one wasn't available (Brie, spinach and mushroom omelette) which was disappointing and threw off our plan for our orders. We did get the vegan lettuce tacos and those were great, suggest a side of hot sauce (and avocado of course lol). The food was all amazing and beautiful, I'd expect nothing less from Chef D,Orr, the main reason this isn't 5 stars is our server barely checked in on us, and service took a really long time unfortunately - our drinks (1 cocktail and 1 mimosa) took 15 minutes (lovely Doug wasn't working, otherwise I know that wouldn't have happened, as Doug is the best), and our food took long, the people we were with got a bit restless. Anyways, other than timeline it was all amazing and I'm appreciative that they ran some veggie options, hope that continues/grows, adding more permanently to the menu would be so cool! :) read more

Disappointing, which I would love to blame on COVID, but unfortunately can't. SERVICE. Just slow and non-responsive. We waited a good 20 minutes to make a drink order. Got the order wrong. But didn't say anything once she realized it was wrong. Never caught that we didn't eat half the food (because it was rushed, so undercooked). And it looked like she only had a couple of tables. Being a server for 5 years, I'd easily forgive any one of those as just a bad night; but she didn't manage to get anything right. FOOD. Sorry guys ... with the prices you are charging (eg $9 for fries), if you are just going to be a high-end burger, fries, and pizza place in a college town, then you need to make sure the fries are cooked, the pizza is amazing, and the burger is at least as good as five guys. You didn't manage either. Again, I consider myself pretty forgiving, so maybe you just had a bad Sunday night ... but also maybe not. BAR. Pet peave ... if your cocktail calls out a specific alcohol (in this case, Buffalo Trace), then make sure that cocktail actually uses it. Even if you think you're substituting a similar quality brand (you didn't), then you at least need to update the menu or make sure the server lets the customer know. Otherwise it just comes off as "well, our stupid customers will never know" OVERALL. Any one of these things wouldn't motivate me to drop a bad review ... but since it seems that it all went horribly wrong; and the floor manager walked by our table multiple times and didn't inquire why we weren't eating our food ... I'd say the whole restaurant has been impacted by bad management, a bad head chef, and no awareness. Like I said at the beginning ... super disappointed. This isn't a place we eat at frequently ... maybe 5 times in it's 15 year history. But for a restaurant that was arguably once bloomingtons #1 restaurant, I'd struggle to put it in the top 50 now. I hope they get it together do they have another 15 years, but at this rate I'd be surprised if they are open another 15 months. read more

I informed the server how bad the meal was, but by the time they checked in, the other people in my party were done eating. As soon as you walk into the place, you know you're in for a unique experience! The decor is very fun - obviously farm themed but with a twist. There is seating outside and inside which is a plus. The coolest thing about this place is that they use REAL, natural food from local farmers! The ingredients are always fresh and the dishes are always wholesome. The food has real, authentic flavor, especially the potatoes. Coming here for a Sunday brunch is a great option. We sat right down, ordered our food, and it came right out. The service was outstanding and the prices are great considering it's REAL food! Definitely one of my favorite places to get brunch in Bloomington. read more

My friends and I came here twice within a week for both lunch and dinner. Both experiences were great! Coming from boston I didn't expect Bloomington to have incredible Italian restaurant--I was wrong; food quality was top-notch, for dinner, the tagliatelle was amazing, very delicious and of high portion at $20, which was a steal considering a big and high quality meal. My friend's lobster pot pie was very good too- again big portion even for a big person. We had the special cocktail and a red wine at about 9 bucks. The garlic fries was very good too- it came with aioli and other dips but I found aioli to be best paired with the fries. After dinner we went over to the bar for another drink. The bartender was friendly and Christmas decorations were very cute, perfect for a picture. I would give a five stars for my dinner experience. The following lunch we had here was good, but not particularly memorable. We had the pizza with pesto and cheese--which was good but a little too greasy to my liking. The cheese wasn't evenly spread out on the pizza either but overall good oven-baked pizza. However the steak was not too good- it was tender but tasted just ok. Should haven't gone for their sandwiches. Nevertheless, farm Bloomington is a great restaurant and I highly recommend people to pay a visit! read more

We have been looking forward to coming here for a long time. Finally, tonight was the night! We came as a party of 5. Two ordered prime rib and three ordered the Lugar bison burgers. The burgers claim to be 'the best burger in Indiana per food network' and that was a sad understatement. Started with garlic fries and the brussel sprouts, those were both delicious and gave us high hopes for our entrees. So, then the entrees come. The burgers were small, charred, and shaped like hockey pucks, very thick, and most importantly... very over cooked. Two were ordered medium rare, as the chef recommends (per the menu) and one was ordered medium. They were all medium to medium well, dry, and pretty flavorless. I could not eat mine, showed the waiter who completely agreed... then did nothing about it really. He sorta offered to make another burger, but our hour long wait the first time was long enough and I didn't want that. No other solution given, not even free gelato for the kids. Definitely a disappointment, especially at $18.50 + $3 more for added onions and cheese on a burger. The 'potato salad' is bad too. Basically lightly boiled potatoes and light seasoning. No one ate that at all. The prime ribs were cooked right, but lacked seasoning. Pretty basic. Nothing to be excited about, definitely not for $40. Not impressed and actually disappointed. Few other small complaints, but not even worth mentioning at this point as they're just nuisances. read more

Our thanksgiving carry out was pathetic! We usually like the farm. There was literally 3 tablespoons of sweet potato, two small pieces of Turkey and maybe 2 tablespoons stuffing. I've been many times for breakfast. This time we sat at the bar in the evening. The bartender was the architect of one of the best stocked bars I've been to in multiple countries. He was every technical name you could come up with for a connoisseur and technician of the art and history of liquor and mixing extraordinary cocktails. He taylor selected cocktails for people while entertaining them and provided history and interest stories of the beverage. He also helps pair delicious food with the beverage. I was so happy to be in Bloomington again with an opportunity to try FARMBloomington since last year when I was able to attend a special event here. We went during lunch on a weekday. It was pretty much empty except for one table (maybe one more since I couldn't see much outside the dining area where we were). We were seated and proceeded to look over the lunch menu. It took longer than anticipated to be served considering how slow the place seemed to be, but once we were, the bartender (I think) was our server, and he was so friendly and helpful! One thing I like about FARM is that there are daily specials that change based on what's available and fresh. I'm always one to try the specials since I may never get to try them again! I opted for the daily sandwich special which was turkey, brie, fig jam, and arugula on a baguette. The side was potato salad and a pickle. Baguettes are SUPER crusty so can be a challenge to eat for a sandwich, but it was so worth it! The gooey brie and sweet fig jam was the perfect complement to the peppery arugula and the turkey breast had a slight char on the edges which I LOVED. The potato salad was lightly dressed and used red potatoes. It was good, but I didn't find it overwhelming with flavor. My husband opted for the BLT with goat cheese (his favorite) and said it was good, but the goat cheese was nearly undetectable. He said the bacon tasted like a campfire which is his way of saying that it's pretty smokey. We love our cocktails so I started with the Unicorn Tears - tequila, watermelon/raspberry shrub, and other components (but those were the main ones). It was salty and sweet but after a moment tasted like drinking a Jolly Rancher! I'm a fan! My second one was the Sunflower - made with Cardinal Terra Gin (YAY) and lemon (and other stuff I can't remember). It was so unique and very unlike anything I've ever tried. The Terra Gin came through but was nicely balanced. Husband got a Zombie Dust to start (has to whenever he finds it) but ended with a Jefferson's Reserve neat. We also did dessert! (We make the most of days off!) They were out of a lot of desserts after the weekend, but they still had plenty of tasty options. Husband got the goat cheese cheesecake (surprise) which is also gluten-free since they use an almond meal crust. I got to try it, and just...get this when you're here! The goat cheese is super forward so if you enjoy goat cheese, you will love this! It's super creamy and balanced so it's not like eating straight goat cheese. The almond meal crust is also enjoyable and you don't really notice that it's not a standard graham cracker crust. I got the mixed fruit cobbler a la mode. It had blackberries, peaches, and raspberries (I think). It was tasty and not overly sweet like some cobbler fillings can be. That said, I was hoping it was a bit sweeter, but I have a huge sweet tooth so that may just be me. My only reason for leaving off a star is that we didn't get our last cocktails with dessert, and service was a bit uneven, but honestly, I think that's because they had the bartender covering part of the dining room which just seemed odd to me since there are tables in the bar area too. He was very friendly and personable though. I hope to come back and spend some time in the Root Cellar, the downstairs speakeasy. I can't wait to come back!
