I hired Scott a few years ago and he was in and out of my unit in less than 30 minutes. He only noted electrical issues and no structural. It was only after I inquired him about the issues I've noticed is when he noted it in the home inspection addendum. We were referred to Scott by our real estate agent to do the pre-inspection on the house we were purchasing. Scott is friendly and knowledgeable. There are only a couple of minor issues. He pointed out areas of concern and items to keep an eye on. He recommend when the issues need to be done. He also provided the estimate cost to replace the items. He also took numerous of photos to document what he found and sent the report to us. We will definitely contact him again if we need a full house inspection in the future. read more

When my wife and I purchased a house last year, our real estate agent found Scott Chappell of Faro Systems to do our home inspection. We found ourselves in a multiple bid situation where time was truly of the essence. Scott made himself available with just a day's notice and completed a very thorough, 4+ hour inspection. Since the house was built in the mid-1800s, we had lots of questions and concerns. During his inspection, Scott demystified everything about the house for us. He patiently explained everything to us and identified all areas of particular concern. We were very impressed with Scott's knowledge and service. A year later we were looking to find a structural engineer who specialized in older homes. I wrote to Scott asking if he knew anyone. He had a couple of folks in mind, but no one who worked in northern Virginia. Amazingly, Scott placed a number of phone calls on our behalf and found someone he thought might be worth our while to talk to. Well, in the end, he found exactly the right person for us to talk to. Scott truly went above and beyond for us. It's easy to give someone a report and never speak to them again. But here was Scott, a year later, still providing guidance and doing research for us. Scott Chappell of Faro Systems was recommended by our Long & Foster agent, Stacey Styslinger. We had a great experience from the beginning to the end. Scott was early and was dressed professionally. I add the last part to contrast to some other inspectors we dealt with during our house sale and previous experiences. We received a solid, prompt review the same day as the inspection on July 22nd of this year that detailed the 3 hours top to bottom, inside and outside along with follow up responses to questions raised walking thru a 1930s house. Scott was clear on the scope of his inspection but was also willing to offer his thoughts beyond. We did have to pay an additional expense that went above the initial quote although that was explained as well. He has also made himself available to come back for additional questions or review. It was nice to know that Scott was credentialed by a reputable association as well as investing more into his training. In terms of disclosure, we do not know Faro or Scott outside of this experience and accepted our agents recommendation. Called yesterday morning, met with Scott at 1pm - he was friendly, professional and very thorough. This review is about Scott Chappell, home inspector at Faro Systems. I can't speak to the other inspectors from Faro Systems. Scott was recommended to us by friends in the area are handy and practical. They thought he was thorough and detail-oriented, which are good traits for a home inspector. We really enjoyed Scott's professionalism and the patience to explain things to us, both during the inspection and even after. He arrived on time and immediately chatted about the process and his background, then we went to the basement to start. (Order of our little one story house was basement, then outside around the exterior, then ground floor, looked up in the attic, then up on the roof). He was thorough and welcomed our many questions. We had a relative who is amazingly handy look the house over before Scott's inspection, so we had a bunch of questions. I think he appreciates people who are paying attention, or at least he seems not to mind at all our multiple questions during our thorough inspection. He did the write up very quickly (that same night) and even a couple days later on the weekend added some things he realized he omitted. Even months after the purchase, I had a couple of additional questions which he promptly answered with good ideas. I recommend him highly whether you are considering purchasing a house, which is one of the largest investments you'll make, or if you just want someone to give your current house a look-over to make sure you are keeping us with stuff that is hard to see. read more

Our inspector was W.Scott Chappell, who did a great job and found all sorts of minor issues and some major. He was very thorough (~3.5 hr inspection) and knowledgeable (many, many years of experience). He also gave recommendations on safety and maintenance of the home. Since I'm a first-time home buyer, all of this made me feel less worried about my purchase. Got the report back the next day. They were cheaper than the other quotes I got too. I had to cancel the inspection with this company after the inspector showed up and demanded more money than they quoted me over the phone. Somehow he thought that although I gave them the statistics for the square footage of the house and the number of bedrooms and bathrooms that the purchase price of the house should determine the cost of the inspection (even though this is not a public number). It was a huge mistake not to use a local inspector in Potomac (they do not require a purchase price) rather than use an inspector that I found through Takomapakk. The inspector was Reuben Diaz. After writing this I found out that the inspector went back to the house (!) and talked to the owner about what happened and told her about his dispute with our family... read more

DO NOT BOTHER giving these folks your money or time. Hire specialists (plumbers, electricians, etc), not 'inspectors' Our experience with Arthur Pavis - total incompetence on plumbing inspection and a completely unprofessional, uncaring attitude when asked about 4 major plumbing issues he had missed. Purchased a home from Wydler Bros Real Estate (Catherine Davila, agent; Yoo-ah Kim, Jihwang Yeo, sellers) last year. Four major plumbing issues in first three months in the home -- over $5000+ in repairs. Arthur blew off emails requesting his time to review what he had missed as well as requests for a refund for the plumbing inspection. When pressed, he eventually blamed accounting. Faro then offered an unsulting $60 and asked me to sign a document promising not to take Faro to court. AMAZINGLY unprofessional and insulting. Again, don't bother with agent-recommended inspectors and expect a very similar reaction from Faro when issues are missed. read more

Scott didn't mind if we asked detailed questions or followed him around the property during his inspection. I recently had an inspection done by this Company and it was quite awful because they did not perform a well thorough inspection of the house that I was planning to purchase. Due to their lack of commitment and expertise, I ended up finding out the issues which were obvious to a real inspector, such as missing or evaluating proper insulation in a crawl space, and although they are not responsible for pest control issues, they completely missed telling me that the crawl space area was infested by cricket like critters; estimated in the hundreds. Due to improper crawl space ventilation, we also discovered mold build up on the insulation, which is something else the inspector did not point out. Not to mention the insulation was filled with newspapers or cardboard boxes nailed to underside of floor joist. I called and spoke to both Charles and Scott and both had little concern to the poorly inspection performed by Ruben. There was no reassurance for client satisfaction and they did not take any responsibility for their services. I would not recommend this Company to anyone. read more
