Counter customer service was good. Representative was congenial and explained the charge for 60,000 mile maintenance service on a 2019 Subaru Forester. Service department policy was disappointing. Three issues -- (1) FINE PRINT COST ADD-ON -- The maintenance service was expensive -- I was told $850 plus a state safety inspection plus tax -- roughly $900 but what was not mentioned was a shop supply cost that added $62.55 to the final bill. I asked about the shop supply cost and was told that it is standard and nothing the service department could do. The fine print of the sales order includes the shop supply cost but it is not included in the verbally quoted price. Not the end of the world but enough of a bad taste in my mouth to not come back. So, be aware of the add on charge up to $99.99 based on percentage of total cost of labor (12%) and parts (5%). (2) BATTERY CLASS ACTION SUIT - My battery previously had issues and I was advised that I was eligible for battery replacement based on current class action suit settlement with Subaru (see https://www.subarubatterysettlement.com/). I was told to call the Subaru settlement hotline (855-606-2625) and request a code for replacement of the battery. I did that and provided the code to Farrish Subaru, the response was that even though I was the original owner and had purchased the car at Farrish, I was not eligible due to mileage (65,000 miles) on my vehicle. I went to the settlement website and found that I should be eligible for a 50% coverage for battery replacement. I plan to follow up with the settlement entity. Again, nothing illegal or unethical but it just didn't seem like the way to treat a customer who purchased the vehicle in their dealership. If you have a Subaru make sure you check the settlement site -- evidently the price for battery replacement out of your pocket is $500 (other batteries don't seem to work -- they have the same drain problem). (3) WARRANTY on PARTS & SERVICE - Be aware that, in my reading, of the "Warranty Disclaimer" (see below), Farrish Subaru is not responsible for any warranty on parts and service other than what is offered by the Subaru Corporation. My regular mechanic provides a 6 month warranty on his service and the parts I buy through him. I was unaware that Subaru basically says you are on your own the minute you drive out of the dealership. Again, read the fine print. In favor of the service department, they did provide windshield wipers without charge when I indicated I did not want to $50 for a pair of wipers. That was helpful. read more

My car picked up a nail and had a slow leak. Of course, I had no time for a down car with appointments and commitments. I have my Outback serviced here and had bought new tires last year so I called them. They gave me "Express Service", took the car in and found the nail and told me I needed a new tire. By this time, I was getting close to a PT appointment 20 minutes away. They didn't have a loaner car but my service agent ordered a Lyft both ways. Amazingly I made my scheduled appointment and got back to get my car. It was ready to go and I actually made it to my next commitment. The icing on the cake: tire protection when I purchased the new tires there covered the cost of the new tire! I am so grateful for such awesome service and for my service agent. It doesn't get better especially in the DMV. read more

The vehicle that we received was excellent, but that isn't even the best part of our experience. We traded in a vehicle and the GM gave us an offer that was perfect for us and worked with us to get a price we wanted. Our sales representative, Sam Vargas, was extremely accommodating and offered us additional a with zero pressure. Sam and the GM, as a team, helped us feel valued and important as customers. The GM even took the time to come up to us while we waited and express to us how important customer service is to him and asked us if we had feedback. Incredible experience. I went here for years and it was just ok, but recently the service has gone completely down hill and the management sucks. I'm very disappointed in Farrish. My 20 year old daughter became stranded on the other side of the country and we decided to send her to a Subaru dealership to be safe. To make a long story short, they charged her $425 for a new battery, doing an almost $200 diagnostic test without telling her. I called to talk to someone and eventually was sent to voicemail without a return call. It feels as if they took advantage of a young person and their lack of knowledge. First time I brought my car in for warranty related maintenance, they were alright; fixed most things, but misdiagnosed one issue under the hood that was later correctly identified and corrected by another Subaru dealer. I then went to schedule my 30,000 mile maintenance check-up. Their price - $1000. Get out of town. Dealers are notorious for marking up, but this was absurd for a check-up of routine work and inspections (fluids, oil change, rotation, transmission, etc). However, being that my car is still under warranty, I want the experts doing the work so that nothing unexpectedly pops up to void my warranty. After checking quotes with Sheehy in Springfield ($690) and Fredericksburg ($550) for identical service, they lost my business for good. read more

Service and Maintenance: 4 stars Body Work: 1.5 stars Ok, ok, I know you don't take your car to the dealer to get body work done. I know I shoulda gone to one of the well-ranked body shops near me (in Arlington). But I had such little time to run this errand and had to get service work done so I decided to have Farrish do everything. Also, I had $500 in Subaru bucks that I could redeem at the service center. I needed routine maintenance, wheel alignment, oil change, and tire rotation. I also need body work on the passenger side for the multiple dings, scrapes, and dents caused by running into the pole in my parking garage many times. As far as the service and maintenance goes, I've been bringing my Subaru here since I got it two years ago. Ryan (the former manager) and Stan (the current service manager) are helpful, nice, and honest. They don't upsell me to do unnecessary things to my car. This is the reason I keep going back for service, maintenance, and things like getting new set of tires. With regard to the body work...blah! It took over a week and I had to pay $270 for a rental car. They fixed the dents and paint job but charged me $1000 for it. Fine, I've already admitted that I shoulda gone to a regular body shop. The thing that really irritated me though was the crappy job they did detailing my car. I paid for the $150 deluxe detailing and the inside smelled like car cleaner but it was still kind of a mess inside. Moral of the story: I won't ever go back to Farrish for body work or anything cosmetic and I may even try to find a new place for service and maintenance. read more

My car was impacted by the Takata airbag recall -- I called the dealer where I got my car in Tyson's and they promised a call back to schedule the repair "as soon as possible". I called Farrish and they scheduled me immediately (and they are also dealing with hundreds of vehicle recalls, yet manage to handle the workload) then, were able to move the appointment up, which was great. David, my service consultant, could not have been more professional. The department is spotless, the waiting area clean and comfortable (not the same with the other dealer...). The car was not just done on time, they were early. The other dealer? They never called with an appointment time. And when you get a recall notice that includes the words "serious injury or death", you really want a response. Would definitely return to Farrish for either service or a next purchase. read more

I had a chance to use the service department for one of my shop vehicles. Although I do not have a Subaru I needed some service and along with being convenient I have heard nothing but great things about them. I did not have an appointment but did not seem to matter as I was greeted immediately and asked my concerns. They really listen!!! My vehicle was taken through the shop and my repair request was handled while I waited. What a great experience!! I was back on the road in less than an hour. I recently took in my 2012 Subaru Outback with what I suspected was a battery issue. The service center was excellent and very accommodating. They were very quick to diagnose and fix the problem. Everyone was very professional and definitely customer service oriented. They even helped me reinstall the car seats when I picked up my car! I am totally convinced that the service agents are paid upon how much they sell you services. It truly doesn't matter that you don't need new brake pads or a new battery. They need make the sales in order to survive. I suggest that you verify that you actually need the repair, as I did, by checking with other reputable mechanics before spending the money and time. You may find, as I did, that not only is the repair premature but completely unnecessary. The service agents are not worried about why you came such as an oil change or an inspection but instead how much you are willing to spend. In fact, the mechanic completely forgot to complete the inspection after I declined the repair. I spend over 3 hours getting an oil change and an inspection. I had also completely forgotten that the last time, about 5 months ago, I went to this service center and the salesman told me that my tire was punctured and could not be repaired. The salesman said that I needed a new tire. The salesman said since the vehicle was all drive I should change all of them! I went somewhere else to get the new tire. If I could give zero stars, I would. Many, many unnecessary and perhaps dangerous things were done to my 2009 Subaru Forester during 30K maintenance without my authorization. I asked for an oil change, using synthetic oil, which they say they did, then added oil conditioner! Why add oil conditioner to brand new synthetic oil? Ripoff, that's why. The manufacturer recommends topping off fluids -- they added cooling system conditioner, transmission conditioner, and quiet brake, none of which are the original factory made fluids. Without my authorization they did a power steering service, and upsold me, without authorization, from the factory maintenance to something called "Platinum", over $500 additional to install engine oil system conditioner, etc. none of which was needed or wanted. $1800 bucks for 30K maintenance and a brake job. I kid you not. Beware, especially of Keith, the service advisor. Wish I had read Yelp first. Turning this over to a consumer lawyer. read more

This review is for their service department. I took the car on Monday to diagnose a noise that came from the brake dust shield cover. While diagnosing the issue the mechanic noticed that my window regulator was bad (when my car was a week old somebody broke into it and I had to have my window replaced). Even though my car had been out of the 36months/36Kmiles, they replcaed it free of charge, since they had to order the part they gave me a loaner. They also ran other tests to make sure my battery was fine and did a multi-point inspection as part of the diagnosis. I got my car back on Thursday, washed and with no noise from the dust shield cover. All in all, a good experience. I will bring my car back here for an oil change and maintenance. read more

The battery in my 2017 Subaru Forester died just after the odometer reached 36,050 miles (just outside the 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty). With AAA's assistance, I took the car to Farrish and they used the "good will" concept and changed my battery at no cost to me with a minimal wait. I'd like to thank the service manager, Dave Palumbo, and the service advisors Grant and Rachel for their assistance and good will in taking care of me and getting my vehicle in operation with minimal wait time. I had a coupon to pay for one oil change ($36) and get the next 3 FREE. What a deal, until during my first freebie they tell me my Inner Left CV Boot has a hole. Proceed to explain all about how the grease will leak out and then the axel (CV joint?) will go bad. Makes sense. How much? $300 for replacing the BOOT only, cause they would have to take the whole axel off to get to it. Not today, I say. No time. Drop by my regular Shell Station mechanic, he put the car up on the rack and shows me . . . NO HOLE, NO LEAK. And if I did have a problem the whole axel could have been replaced for only $250. So I got 2 oil changes for the over priced one. . . maybe I will not bother with the other two freebies. Wonder what other work they have ripped me off on over the past 11 years!! Two and a half hours later I asked for my car back. Zero work done. Zero explanation. Zero apology. Zero follow-up. Zero reply to request for explanation. The review above was written a full 24 hours after retrieving the car, without hearing from the dealership. Four days later the dealership emailed to apologize and offer a free oil change and tire rotation. The service manager explained that there had been a mix-up. Its unfortunate that I feel this strongly about this dealerships service center, because the sales guys are wonderful! However, there are no words to describe the service department's employees at this location. They are lazy, nasty, constantly sighing on the phone and making the customer feel as though they are inconveniencing them. When i purchased my Subaru I also elected to pay extra for a maintenance contract, therefore I am stuck using this operation until it expires..however the second it does I am out of there. The first time i took my car in, it was for an oil change and a recall. After the work was completed I took my car, home it was great, I thought everything was fine and then i opened the mail (that say day) and there was another recall notice. This meant that i needed to take my car back again because the service person did not check the system to make sure that there weren't any other outstanding recalls. I was furious. I called and spoke to one of the men there and he did not apologize at all. He said "well you can bring it in on Friday," Oh sure, I work full time let me go ahead and tell my employer i need to take time of because the dealership that serviced my car employs morons. Since I had no other choice I brought my car in at the suggested time on the date he provided. Once I arrived that same individual told me that there were a lot of other people waiting, and he didnt know when they could get me in. When I explained to him that it wasnt my fault that they didnt do everything the first time he asked me if he was supposed to go out to the waiting room and tell everyone that I needed to have my car done right then and there. He patronized me, he was a complete jerk and he had zero compassion for the fact that the reason i was back in their service department was because of their error! I insisted that he get the head manager of service on the phone. The manager apologized and he spoke to the gentleman and they were able to get my car done in an hour. Fast forward to today, our third oil change and 15k mile maint checkup. I called to schedule and appointment today and the person answering the phone didn't identify himself, when i asked if i had called service he said yes and what did i want. I told him that i had a maintenance plan and that i needed to get an oil change. At this point he let out a big sigh and said oooooookay. I guess he needed a minute to collect his attitude because he didn't say anything else for about 30 seconds. What has happened to customer service? I truly despise this place and as i said before as soon as my contract is up I am out of there. In the meantime, if my experience continues to be negative my survey to Subaru will reflect that. I would recommend using any other service center in the world, because this one is terrible. read more

The on line appointment system works great and the on line payment system is a nice option.All of the service personnel go out of their way every time I am there. I have been using the Farrish service center for years, first with my Forrester and then for my 2013 BRZ. While I have had a couple problems, they were definitely resolved to my satisfaction. Most recently, I brought my car in for service and they noticed that my registration had expired months ago. They checked the database to make sure no inspection had been done and then did it while I was there so that I could get my registration renewed right away. They do a great job, and the car wash is the icing on the cake! read more

A truly awful experience with Farrish service. I attempted to get an appointment for three weeks, leaving messages, being promised of a call back, but I never received a call from the service center to schedule an appointment. After calling them back for the fourth time in so many day, I finally got one and supposedly ordered a part that would be needed for the service I scheduled. Once I finally went in for the scheduled service, not only did it take them nearly 3 hours to do a simple oil change, they left me in the waiting room for nearly an hour after my car was finished, they didn't have the part that was supposed to have been ordered two weeks prior, and they misplaced my car in the mean time. To add insult to injury, they left my car filthy. I'm never going back to Farrish for any maintenance or modifications to my car. Unless you're covered under a warranty and service is free, seek an alternative mechanic. read more

NEVER take your vehicle to the Farrish service department for any reason. Their customer service is HORRIBLE and the person in a previous review who insinuated that the desk staff is challenged was not far off the mark. I made an appointment for oil change (since I have coupons because I purchased the car when they had a Buick dealership) and for a state inspection. They told me to bring the car over but that it might take 2 and a half hours. I questioned this, particularly when I arrived and there seemed to be almost no cars around and they were all sitting there not doing anything. I was told that the inspector was "across the street" so it would be a while. They asked for a phone number and looked at me like I had three heads because I said I wasn't going home (Duh, I brought the car myself and no one was giving me a lift) I gave them my cell number...and they proceeded to call my home number twice before figuring out that they had the cell number. So I wandered that cold hideous stretch of Fairfax for over two hours trying to entertain myself waiting for them to finish with the car. They finally left a message on my cell. When I walked in to confirm that the car was done they were short and rude, and pointed me in the vague direction of the cashier. I flipped out when I presented the coupon to the cashier and she told me that I had to have presented it before hand to get the oil change without charge. I had the coupon in my hand when I checked in at the service desk and no one said ANYTHING. The cashier told me I would have to go back over to the guys at the service desk about the coupon. At this point, realizing that talking to those geniuses again was a fate worse than death, I paid the bill and left...and will never be back. One would think in these days of difficult business they would get their act together. read more
