I brought in a 1‑year‑old car with less than 10,000 miles for a simple state inspection, and they failed it while trying to add a list of completely bogus 'repairs' that made no sense for a nearly new vehicle. There is absolutely no reason a car this new should need hundreds of dollars in extra work. If this is how they treat a car that's basically brand new, I can only imagine what kind of unnecessary charges they'd try to push on a car with 30,000 miles. I left feeling misled and disappointed. Arun and his team have taken care of my 2 cars very well for the past several years and I knew I could count on them to do a good job at a fair price. That has changed. Yesterday I took my Lexus in for a safety inspection, oil change and fixed back brake light. I had an appointment at 3. At 3:43 she called and quoted 135.00 and it would take 1.5 hours. I said yes. She called 50 minutes later to say it was ready to pick up. When I picked it up the charge was 212.00 for just the brake light. I called later and asked why I was overcharged and was told that they charge dealership labor rates and that's what Lexus charges for a new brake light bulb replacement. What? If I wanted dealership rates I wouldn't have come there. I told him My second call came 50 minutes later, saying the car was done. So it took 50 minutes. I asked them to correct the charge as it clearly didn't take 1.5 hours. He said THE MECHANIC GETS PAID WHATEVER HE QUOTES. IF IT TAKES LESS TIME HE POCKETS THE DIFFERENCE. What? Anywhere else you get a quote for what it could be and your bill is adjusted to what it actually cost! I think I was totally ripped off to pay "honest one" 212.00 to replace a brake light bulb. Then, we were made to pay 50% more on the day of the service, that's from a quote of ~$1000 jumps to ~$1600. I rarely give a business 1 start because sometimes there can be a misunderstanding or just a honest mitake. There is a way to make money and we would be more than happy to pay for a decent service. Incident actually happened this past December (2022) but am just writing a review now. Had a bad experience with inspections. They told me my head lights were not DOT approved even though they passed the last 2 years prior. I asked them to get DOT approved headlights which they agreed. I called the next day and asked if they had got the part, the person on the phone asked if he could call me back so he could check. Never called me back. Called again the next day and told me the same and never called me back. They are not my normal mechanic but mine wasn't available. So I tried them out and they're close to home. Their name should be the biggest Dis-Honest #1 Asking for $1800 plus to pass my inspection and keep in mind my car worth not more than $3000, when my brother called they drop it to $1100 and after further bargaining they agreed for $730 as courtesy. They take the time to explain possible situations and advise me if I need to do maintence but are respectful if I decline. I do not recommend Honest 1 for anything beyond basis service - oil change, tire rotation, putting air in your tires. More advanced services are beyond the skill of their mechanics. If you ignore this warning and have them attempt repairs, be ready to wait and wait for them complete the work. After you've picked your car up, be ready to take it back in because the work was not satisfactory. Every time that happens, your car is out for another week because they are SO SLOW. Know that they source parts from junkyards so don't count on long life. And know that you will have to initiate contact if you want updates, or to authorize them to take the next step because they will not call you. read more

They average about an hour per vehicle for state inspections. They are looking at things during these inspections that have nothing to do with the criteria required to pass a state inspection in hopes that you just have them fix it. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF YOUR VEHICLES HERE EVER! The ABSOLUTE worst place I have ever dealt with for auto care. I took my vehicle there for more than likely needing new breaks and rotors. Sure enough, it needed new FRONT brakes and rotors ONLY. after checking the entire vehicle. Which cost $1100!!!!!!!!!! A week later my Tahoe was squeaking like rubbing metal, so I took it back and they said that I had another $800 worth of repairs. Apparently I needed ANOTHER set of front breaks and rotors (covered under warranty) but now also front calipers!! A damn joke. Then several hours later I go to pick up my vehicle and the guy takes NO responsibility for their screw up the first time, nor does he credit me for their mistake at all. I paid it anyway. And then went to get into my car and my break pedal and breaks are now making a NEW noise!! I immediately went back in and asked to have my "bad parts" which I was NOT ALLOWED TO TAKE, and they said I could only see them. They told me that they couldn't show me what was wrong with my parts but showed me a rusted rotor that was supposedly mine. Tell me how a BRAND NEW ROTOR RUSTED in a couple weeks ???!!!! And also presumed to tell me that "it was making that noise when you brought it in" LIES!!!! It had noise while driving, never sitting. After all the arguments, I was told that I couldn't speak to the owner, he was "home with his family." And that they could not give me any kind of credit. Then the service tech who DID the work came out to tell me he was so so sorry. And that he told them that "we shouldn't charge them for anything except parts. Call her and tell her." I told him that I was never called and I was 100% charged. Another service tech came out, drove my car, and said he couldn't fix it til the next day, which I couldn't do because I leave to move to Florida in the morning. He credited me $250 (which the original guy was furious about)! After all the service tech apologies... I would never go to this place ever!!!!! Honest? No... 100% no. Don't believe the 'first come first served' sign on the door. I waited 2 hours for a safety inspection while 3 other customers got their inspections and left before my car was even seen. My car passed inspection, so it wasn't a matter of needing service. When I mentioned this at checkout I was told they were reinspections, but one customer's car failed so it wasn't a reinspection. It arrived late Thursday and Friday I was called and told that it was his starter. I asked if replacing the starter would get my son's truck back on the road and he said YES! Didn't hear back from anyone called again right before they closed and was told now it's the batteries also (this truck has 2 batteries). Saturday the same guy called me and asked if they could keep it until Monday because it was not clicking fast enough". It's now been over a week and it's another thing and another thing wrong. The last thing was a glow plug module. Friday I called asking what's going on and was promised for a call back. It's now Saturday and they are closed until Monday. Why they did not hook it up to a diagnostic, not sure. If you want to give your vehicle to someone and be told it's one issue for $900 and then everyday it still don't work and now be up to OVER $2k. This is your place!! I would appreciate the general manager or owner to reach out to me. I even gave them a great review a while ago. Change the name to Dishonest 1 Broadlands. I was quoted replacement of an interior fan blower motor & final stage regulator ($1,100) when the blower motor replacement, which is the high cost item, was not needed. When I asked specifically about the need to replace the blower motor I was told it was tested directly and was bad! That obviously never happened as I replaced the regulator only ($58 for parts) and the fan now works fine. I was also told that the vehicle required replacement of front and rear brakes. I put new rotors and pad not the front a few months ago ( maybe a few thousand miles on them) and examined rear pads ( and replaced them) to show the shop they were not worn badly at all, nowhere near replacement. Sadly, they can't be trusted. BEWARE read more

I took my car for an inspection and an oil change. after 3 hours of waiting, my car was ready, I get in the car and I see the check engine light on. I go back to lady at front told, at first she tried to say that the light was on prior to service. not true. she checks the ticket, and its not mentioned on there. At this point. she assured me no problems, will plug the reader and see what's wrong. but she had to leave as her shift ended. now this whole thing is passed to the supervisor on site. he tells the mechanic go check the light and let us know, mind you at this point I just want to leave as 3 hours is insane amount of time to wait. 5 minutes later the mechanic comes back and says there is no check engine light. "come let me show you." at this point I get fed up with them, I told him everyone and their mother knows that you could turn off the light. I came back in to know me why the the light was triggered, and not for you to turn off the light, and blatantly lie in front of my face. even though the supervisor told him go back in there and give us the codes. he refused to do it as he "took pictures" of my engine light prior to service. I asked him to show it to me, or the supervisor. The mechanic "Robert" then says " I clocked out, meet me outside." the supervisor orders him to go inside, and i never saw him or his proof. I then told the supervisor if this mechanic had his proof ill apologize to both of you, the supervisor said "no he got nothing" so not only that this mechanic has no regard for his supervisor. he is an immoral liar, and a thug too. I am considering pressing charges on this mechanic, but the supervisor was very apologetic, and embarrassed from this mechanics behavior, he kept saying we are sorry, I could tell he was really embarrassed about what happened. and he explained to me that this is a family owned business, and they worked hard to build it up. I don't wanna hurt these people's business, but they should be careful not to hire criminals. read more

I came here for $20 state inspection on 9/8 and almost came out with $3,000 plus bill!!! My 2008 SUV failed the inspection due to a faulty and corroded rear differential cradle support according to the inspector. I decided to take my SUV to another shop and get it reinspected and explained what the "Honest" inspector found. Long story short, my SUV passed and the explanation provided was the other inspector was too "picky". Since I saw how corroded the cradle shaft and to have a peace of mind, I took my SUV to an auto body shop in Sterling and had them look at the shaft for a 3rd time. The mechanic basically agreed with the 2nd inspector and found no reason to replace the shaft. I wasted a whole day basically for nothing. I'll probably stay away from "Honest"-1 Auto Care especially after my wife told me this has happened before with the same SUV a couple of years ago when my son took it there for inspection. Had I known about this, I would have never taken the SUV back to this place. read more

Not so Honest! Two separate bad experiences. One vehicle had a check engine light and they took it for a 70 mile test drive. 70 miles!!! This was confirmed by the owner or manager. They "fixed" it, then the warning light came back on and I brought it back to get "fixed" again. $1,000. I'm not even sure it needed what we paid for. It could have just been a bad sensor. Then, we brought another vehicle for a simple oil change because we were pressed for time and needed it done quickly. I figured, "how could they mess that up? " They got it done quickly but they put the wrong type of oil in the car, not the oil specified by the manufacturer. The (wrong) oil type that was used was noted on both the printed receipt and the reminder sticker on the windshield. When I called, they said, "oh we put the right kind of oil in, the sticker and the printed receipt are just incorrect." A tech that I spoke with later confirmed that they in fact did not put the right type of oil in. Then, we found that they did not replace two of the bolts on the splash guard under the filter which is now flapping in the wind. read more

I called them back and was told that the manager had called me but she left at 4, and that I should call back the next morning at 8 AM. It was a busy week for me and I did not call them back until today at 10 AM. I was told that the manager had gone out to her kid's school and would not be back until 12 or 12:30. I asked that she call me when she comes back or after 4, and was told that she leaves at 4. She did not call me back. I have yet to hear back from them. read more

I had a timing belt replacement. A few months later my oil pump was leaking. Oil pump removal for timing belt replacement? And then put back oil pump with original seals. Now a oil pump leak. And refused to put in a tps sensor for me when I said my car died on the highway. no cell warning? No work!. And then wanted to charge 300$ labor for a half hour job. I went to VA tire and auto and was charged a half hour not two hours. Every time I go to honest 1 they want to over charge . And the gal at the counter is like whatever. My friend took my car here on Wednesday for a simple State inspection and emissions test. He was there over an hour before they came out and told him they LOST my key. They thought it was in another customers car. That's scary and unacceptable. Thankfully that was not my only key, but I had to leave work an hour early to bring them another key so they could do the inspection. They thought it was sufficient to cover the cost of a the inspections, when they cost me my hourly wage and gas to come and give them another key. I almost missed my next appointment, because they lost my key. I called them Saturday to inquire about my key. They found it, but it's broken. Apparently they are trying to fix it, I expect a new key it wasn't refurbished when I gave it to them. I also have no idea when they found it because they didn't call with an update or to let me know anything. I also intentionally waited to call back to see if the owner cared enough to call and personally apologize for the inconvenience and poor customer service. I gave them a chance to improve before writing this review. Mistakes happen but in customer service it's how you handle it that matters. It has been 3 days and the owner hasn't called to apologize or made any real attempt to compensate for the huge mistake. What if that was my only set of keys? What if I had been in a meeting and my friend couldn't reach me. It's the disrespect of my time, the lack of owner involvement, communication and accountability that let's me know they shouldn't be trusted with your car. Save yourself the bad experience and take your car elsewhere. (I'll update my review if the owner calls me, now that I have told his staff to have him call me) Update: 7/27/21 Still no update nor has the owner called me. Me and my wife have been using honest-1 auto care since we moved to Broadlands 3 years ago. We have always respected their opinion until our last visit. We just went for a routine oil change on our 2017 Nissan Armada. They called and told us we had an Transmission oil warmer leaking and engine oil pan leaking. Which were over $1k to fix. Luckily we bought certified pre-owned so we had coverage in our warranty. We called Nissan and they had the car in. After inspection they told us there was absolutely nothing wrong with either of these issues. It looked like someone had spilt something over the transmission oil warmer and all it needed was to be wiped clean. BUT just to be sure bring it back in 1000 miles to make sure. I called honest-1 to let the manager know what nissan had said. She was adamant that her teams inspection was right. She sent me photos. I did take it back and again nothing was wrong. I called and to let them know and I didn't even get an apology. They said it could just have been a 'misdiagnosis'. If we hadn't had a certified pre-owned I would have just kicked in and had them do the work. When I said this to the employee he said 'we would have refunded you if down the road if you found out it didn't need to be fixed'. To me this was maybe the dumbest answer anyone could have ever given. It makes me think how much other work we've had done on our car that didn't need to be done. Then at 6 with no phone call or communication update, the garage was closed. This is the first to ever happen to me but one that was so costly. The male reception replied that they do not take appointment for safety inspection. It is based on first come first served. It contradicts with their appointment schedule webpage. The next day I brought the car in at 1:00PM. They said that they do not take in any more safety inspection even there is no one in the inspection line or reception area.
