I love this little place. It's old school no frills and I love the "mom & pop" behind the counter. It gives the vibe of visiting a Mexican friend and these are the parents. "Yes mam no mam" I love the chicken plate. It's a hearty meal. Very reasonable for the price. I ate every bite. I've been coming to the spot since I was a kid and I am so glad it is still around. It is owned by the sweetest couple and you definitely get the feeling of family run business when you're inside. My daughter and I had dinner at Fast Taco last night. The husband and wife that owned the business are the sweetest people around. Our order was taken right away and our food was served in 15 minutes, fresh and hot. The chips were fresh and crunchy as well. You can eat inside the restaurant or outdoors on the patio. The prices are very reasonable. I had the fajita quesadilla and my daughter has a carne asada bowl, both were delicious and they have bottled drinks, unsure about fountain drinks. We stopped by this taco place after my daughter's soccer game and it was amazing! We love Mexican so we've tried a lot of places and this is my fave in Santa Monica now. PROS-- The owners seem to be a hard working couple plus there is patio seating. CONS-I ordered a large mild burrito today. It was large and mostly flavorless. less than mediocre. Also it was so soggy it was falling apart. Id prefer if they wore gloves as they handle food. And they could use black beans and brown rice. and the right seasonings. Also the cutlery is plastic, as is the salsa cup [plastic is forever] but the water cup was paper. I doubt Id eat there again. This isn't the place you go to for a gourmet burrito. If you want a gourmet burrito, go elsewhere and pay $22. If you're looking for a tasty, good sized value burrito, fast taco is the joint for you. Family, Friendly, Fresh and Fast! I've been a consistent customer and huge fan of Fast Taco for over 5 years. Everything is made fresh and you are able customize anything on their menu. The price is right and you will feel satisfied with the portions. Few quick things - 1. Salsa bar and spicy carrots are awesome (nice chips as well) 2. Very vegetarian friendly - the beans are not made with meat. 3. The ambiance is superb. There's always live sports on - Soccer and Tennis especially. I like this place. It's a convenient walk from my house; as I suspect it is from yours, or your office, if you're thinking of going. I go in and I get a bean-and-cheese burrito, or a "chipotle" burrito, their slightly fancier version with onions and chipotle sauce. Both are very good: good bean/cheese ratio; tortilla pressed on the grill so it's got some crisp and some chew; heat of melted cheese and beans without being a silly microwave-y explosion. Good, "eatin' something" bean and cheese burritos. The nice couple, who are clearly the proprietors, are friendly and solicitous without being overbearing; they cook the food fresh. It's tasty, filling, and very reasonably priced. As long as you're looking for this kinda place, this place will meet or exceed expectations. read more

Fast Taco is definitely an odd bird. From the moment you walk in, you notice this is not your average taqueria. First, there isn't a prep line like most taquerias. Instead, you place your order at a counter and then the ticket is passed to one person in a small, slightly cramped space assembling/ cooking all the food. The lack of space, man power and long production line are undoubtedly what makes Fast Taco much less fast than the name would imply. Second, the taqueria is devoid of Mexicans. Now I know ethnicity matters little when it comes to culinary capabilities, but this impacts the authenticity of the burrito. The oddest part is that their menus talk about wanting to bring authentic Mexican food to Santa Monica... Hmm. To give an example, the "guacamole" looks like my mom's guacamole, which is a total 1950's housewife recipe that includes mayonnaise and garlic powder. After ordering and waiting for quite some time, I had rather low expectations. But this is where the surprises began. Upon receiving my burrito, I noticed it was grilled very nicely. Then I took a bite and it tasted really delicious! I got the Pastor burrito and the meat was very well done. It is highly seasoned, which usually isn't the greatest, but it provided the kick needed to make the burrito more interesting. The sour cream and aforementioned guacamole are both unusual. The sour cream had a soupier texture with less taste... it's almost like it's part yogurt and part sour cream. Maybe I tried it on an off day, but that was definitely a funky surprise. And of course, the guacamole is more like an avocado spread than traditional guac. At the end of the day, taste is king. And in that game, Fast Taco is doing something right. I can see why they've been around a long time, especially in that area where non American food is lacking. The prices are right and the portions are good. I would absolutely come back. But if you want tradition and are willing to travel to East LA, do so. *One side note: They need new cups for soda. The ones they're currently using are the size of a coffee cup and you only get one free refill. I don't even think it amounts to a can of soda. read more

It's a mystery to me why I have waited so long to review Fast Taco. I've reviewed every other place near my work, but neglected one of the ones i frequent the most. So within the first few weeks, I'm asked by coworkers if I wanted to walk over to Fart Taco. "Fart Taco?" I reply. Yep, Fart. Odd nick name but it's fun to say. And after reading others reviews I see I'm not the only one who now calls it that. What I love most about Fart Taco is the chicken "with" egg burrito. It's frigging HUGE! And cheap! Well not super huge, but big enough to eat in two meals if I eat like a human. I've never had a taco from this place because of how good that burrito is. The food here is ok. Not great, not terrible. Rice: Plain Jane. Beans: Slightly elevated from the canned stuff. Ranchero Burrito w/ Carne Asada: Decent. Cheesy and saucy. I ordered it spicy and it wasn't very spicy at all! Their tortillas are store bought. Salsa bar: Might be the saving grace? Pretty good sauces and an interesting onion salsa. The salsa used for the mojado burrito was not very flavorful or spicy, so if you like this kind of stuff, it might be right for you! Food for thought: Non-Mexican owners with Latino cooks in this Tex/Cali-Mex establishment. It was very fast and the service was good! Can't beat this price in this area. read more
