This is an amazing BBQ spot in South Florida - hands down! I remember when they were on Hillsboro and Powerline but love this location in Deerfield as it's on the way to the beach. And I love that it's veteran and black owned! When ordering from Fat Boyz, you have to order from a kiosk inside and there is someone to help in case you have questions. I did a to go order for a beef rib, 1/2 lb of burnt ends, 2 meat platter (chicken & smoked turkey) with cornbread and coleslaw. I also got traditional, hickory, and Carolina gold sauce. The food took about 10 mins to prepare but it was very fresh and hot. My dad raved about the beef rib and how tender the meat was. It did fall of the bone when he picked it up. The burnt ends were meaty and had a great amount of fat coated in seasoning. My mom and I shared the 2 meat platter and wow. The smoked turkey was juicy and had a light smoky flavor to it. The chicken was very juicy and coated in this signature seasoning that was finger licking good for real! The coleslaw was not too sweet and very good and I am not a coleslaw fan at all. Had a craving for ribs so I went to Yelp and Fat Boyz was #1. I always trust my Yelp friends and they were right again! Great Ribs!!! Placed an order online for a full rack of St. Louis ribs. It was so easy and they were ready on time. The ribs were meaty. The rub on them was excellent and they were smoked perfectly. Could have used some more barbecue sauce and I wasn't a fan of the one included. I saw other ones on the tables when I went to pick up but they weren't in with the order. Luckily I had some at home. Finally tried Fat Boyz BBQ and we're so glad we did! This completes our tour of three local BBQ joints, and Fat Boyz came out on top--especially for brisket. We ordered the brisket and pulled pork via Uber Eats (BOGO 1/4 lb for $16). The pulled pork was solid--good flavor, generous portion, and made for a hearty sandwich. But the real standout? The brisket. It was melt-in-your-mouth, tender, flaky, and full of smoky flavor. Honestly, some of the best brisket I've had--definitely my favorite out of all the local spots we've tried. Just a heads-up: the portion is small. We got half a pound for two people, and it was gone fast. We were not greeted, acknowledged, or assisted in any way by the employee at the counter. I clearly asked, "Do we order here and then sit down?" and was deliberately ignored. After standing there with a small child and receiving absolutely no response, we walked out. This level of disregard is unacceptable and reflects extremely poor customer service. A restaurant that cannot manage basic courtesy and attentiveness should seriously reconsider who is placed in front-of-house roles and how staff are trained. Being ignored upon entering a restaurant is unacceptable. We were prepared to order and were treated as if we didn't exist. We left immediately and will not return. Visiting Florida with my In-laws....since we are from Texas & love BBQ found the closest BBQ joint we could find. In our opinion, This family-owned place is a winner!! First day we had just some baby back ribs and jerk ribs, both were really good the Jerk ribs not spicy at all but flavorful. Had the Granmaws collard greens yes please! Also the beans were really good, a little sweet but perfectly seasoned with bits of brisket. Also had the Burnt ends, yummy! Service is different as you order from a kiosk pad at the front counter, but if you need help Shantal (spelling?) will help. Small place but plenty of tables and chairs. So here is the real review, we returned two days later and ordered more ribs and chicken and sausage (it's regular Texas small links), brisket (we wanted fatty but got lean, still really good). This is how good it is. We will be back in November to enjoy next round of Florida BBQ. They also have 4 types of BBQ sauce, Carolina (not for us), hickory, spicy and regular sauce. We loved the spicy sauce. The menu has catfish and pulled pork and hamburgers and a plethora of other things. They also have flavored teas I wish I had tried but maybe next time. We live locally and have been searching for a good BBQ place in the neighborhood. We stopped in for dinner on a Friday night and were lucky to find a table as there were a lot of people ordering and also a lot of take out. This same business was once located on Jog Rd near Hillsboro in a little caboose. I first went there several years ago and found their bbq to be excellent. I didn't realize they moved to this location until recently and I'm glad to see they are still in business. The inside is small (but bigger than the caboose LOL) and nothing fancy; outside are a couple of crooked tables with a street view. We ordered at one of the kiosks and the dinners were delivered to our table quickly. Everyone working there were busy and all were all very friendly. Together we had the St Louis Ribs, Beef Brisket, collards, mac and cheese, fries and potato salad. The Brisket was great, tender and moist. The ribs had a good BBQ flavor but were a little dry for my taste. We loved the potato salad..the other sides were average. Was hoping for the mac and cheese and collards to wow us. I will definitely be back for the brisket and am anxious to try their chicken. It was very good at the old location. I will also order the ribs again, maybe the baby backs next time. The beans and sweet potatoes are also on my list for next time sides! Parking is easy in the shopping center and we were lucky to get a spot out front. Prices were as expected for bbq at these times. Sooo good! I've been driving by this place for a while now I finally stopped in to check it out. I got a brisket platter with rice and pigeon peas and the candied yams. The brisket was so tender and good flavor. With the rice and pigeon peas was a great combo. The yams were fire! I also got some burnt ends they were so tasty. Got everything to go and they put 2 different bbq sauces in there. Both were amazing and plenty for both dishes. It was so much food for me I saved half for the next day. Stopped in Tuesday night at friend really wanted bbq. The place is in a little shopping center so can be missed. I will say they def have the smoke part down. You could def taste it in the meat. Overall I'd say it was average though. The chicken was the best part, nice and juicy. The ribs were not fall off the bone but had a good taste to them. The brisket was dry and not really moist. I loved it was lean and just wish it was juicy. The corn was good. The Mac and cheese too dry for me and didn't have anything to it. The sweet tea they make is def some good tea although don't test your sugar afterward. Price point is not the cheapest but this is bbq so you can't expect that. Jarael Holston-Jones and his wife Yolanda are a local business success story. Jarael graduated from Blanche Ely High and served in the army. He started with one BBQ food truck and turned it into restaurants employing people in the community. A couple of Fat Boys restaurants have since opened and closed. At one point they had a crab boil restaurant in Pompano. I am a huge fan of Fat Boyz and have seen the couple in their restaurants many times smiling and chatting with customers. If they aren't there when you visit you can always find a picture of them hanging on the wall. The last time I was at Fatz Boyz it was in their Pompano Beach restaurant on Cypress Creek right before Dixie Hwy. They have opened and closed several restaurants since I have been following their culinary journey. My friend and I were discussing places to meet up for lunch that had specials and she mentioned that Fat Boyz had opened in a new location in Deerfield Beach. Their flagship Deerfield location closed awhile ago. I have been missing their mac and cheese so we decided to meet for lunch. Fat Boys has taken over the restaurant formerly occupied by Charlie's Fish Fry. Close to Charm City Burgers it looks like a good spot for them. The restaurant is small but there are a couple of tables out front too. They have a number of lunch specials including pulled pork and chopped chicken sandwiches, brisket shorts rib burger, and the rib tip lunch special I had with the maca and cheese. I also took a the quarter chicken lunch special to go. The food is always great here and I love their sweet BBQ sauce. They have some interesting drink options like birch beer but I always gravitate to their sweet tea. I didn't get the corn nuggets this time but they are always a favorite. It was nice to revisit their barbecue and the lunch specials are great value. I wish them the best of luck in their new location. read more

If you like BBQ you're in the right place. Always a full plate and great flavor. I have been several times and never disappointed. I usually get a 2 meat combo and the brisket every time. They have everything from pulled chicken/pork, several styles of ribs, rib tips and I believe turkey. They even do seafood here! We had an excellent lunch here. We were familiar with the location so it was easy to get to. They have their own parking lot at the stand alone building. It's on the south side of Hillsboro on the corner. We'd loved their bbq at their original location in Coral Springs -- when they were open there. This spot is equally as good. The menu is located on the wall. You order and pay at the counter and they bring your food to your table. Drinks are self serve. They have a number of lunch specials and we ordered from that list. The lunch includes a drink and one side. I got their rib tips with candied yams. The rib tips require a bit of eating by hand as they are chopped up pieces of ribs. You eat the meat from around the bone, etc. Although served between two large slices of Texas toast, it's not a sandwich. The ribs were fantastic. I didn't even need to add one of the 3 sauces provided. I took half my order home along with one piece of the toast. The candied yams were delicious. I'm thinking they use honey to sweeten them. I ate every bit of them right there. My husband had their pulled pork sandwich. He added their spicy bbq sauce to it. He said the meat was tender and tasty. He had baked beans as his side. He liked both. For drinks, he had the peach iced tea -- which he highly recommended. I had the red birch beer soda. Prices for lunch specials were quite reasonable. I used to be a regular here. However in the last month or two the bbq chicken has gone completely downhill. It used to be fairly moist and the sauce was decent. But it now is dry and crumbly - really quite awful. I wrote to the pitmaster to ask what had happened and never heard back. I know good bbq - I spent 10 years in Texas - and this is really not it.
