You had me at LOBSTER ROLL!!!! Ever since I had to cancel my Boston trip (last year) due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I realized I really didn't need to jump on a plane and fly all the way to Boston to eat a Lobster Roll, when I can easily just jump into my car & drive on down to the Ohana Marketplace to eat a Deeeeeeeeeeeeeelicous Lobster Roll from "Fat Cheeks Hawaii!" :D Today was my 1st time trying Fat Cheeks Hawaii, and I definitely know I will be back again to sample more of their seafood rolls! From reading the earlier Yelp reviews about Fat Cheeks Hawaii, it appears that Fat Cheeks has revamped their menu, as I no longer see the Papa Pig, or the Beef Brisket sandwich, nor do I see the Chuck Steak, or Fish plate dishes anymore. Is that a bad thing? Absolutely NOT, as the seafood rolls are F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S!!! If you don't believe me, you should have seen the super long line of folks today............ waiting in line just to order some kind of seafood roll from Fat Cheeks Hawaii! Upon waiting in line, good thing the line moved pretty quickly, and when we got to the ordering counter, we ordered the following items - 1. Lobster Roll & Chips ($15.00) - You have a choice of dressed, butter, or plain. 2. Trio & Chips ($16.00) - The Trio Roll is basically - 1/2 Crawfish Roll, 1/2 Shrimp Roll, & 1/2 Crab Roll. If you wanna get the Lobster Roll, you can do a substitution of one of the Rolls, but there is an additional ($4.00). Which I did today, by substituting a Lobster Roll in place of my Shrimp Roll. 3. Small Clam Chowder ($4,00) - The Clam Chowder comes with homemade croutons, and it's topped with bacon. 4. Lemon Curd Tart ($5.00) - If you like a tart/slightly sweet treat, then this would be your jam! What can I say about the grub??? I came for a Lobster Roll, but after seeing the other offerings on the menu of Crab, Shrimp, & Crawfish.............I figured getting the Trio was a good way to get a little sample of the various seafood rolls. Of course the Trio doesn't have the Lobster, unless you do a substitution (which I did today). All (3) rolls - Lobster, Crab, & Crawfish were fabulous! But if I had to pick one..........the Lobster will still prevail! The Crawfish was the sleeper for me, as I was expecting a "fishy" taste, but Fat Cheeks did a fabulous job with the Crawfish, as it had a very nice spicy sauce mixed into the Crawfish. As the the Clam Chowder............it was okay, nothing special in my eyes, but a soup and fabulous sandwich always sounds good to me! Lol! My friend Jennifer had the Lobster Roll, & Lemon Curd Tart. She said the Lobster roll was really good & filling. As for the Lemon Curd Tart, she liked it a lot too. I tried a small scoop of the tart..........definitely not my thing, as I rather stick with my custard pies! Lol! I tip my hat off to Fat Cheeks Hawaii! So delicious!! My sister and I ordered items that were not listed on the "popular items" menu (specifically chicken sandwich and shrimp roll) and the flavors of both were absolutely incredible! The chicken was so juicy and the shrimp was huge! On top of that, even the French fries were golden crispy! I am thoroughly impressed! Will def go back for their famous lobster roll! The service was excellent, everyone was very polite and helpful. The atmosphere outdoor and indoor is quiet and relaxed. The only nuisance are the occasional birds that come around the outdoor seating, but it's not annoying enough to not come back. I highly recommend this place to locals and tourists alike! read more

I don't know how long Fat Cheeks has been here in Ward Center right next to Roger Dunn cos I didn't notice it the last time I went to RD last year (maybe cos they changed things around due to Covid?). I'm happy that I noticed them this time and decided to give them a try for lunch. I went to RD to buy some items and my friend called me about getting some lunch. I told him about FC since it was staring me in the face so when he got here with his son, we walked to the counter inside the mall to place our orders (as directed by their sign outside at the pickup counter). My friend was born and raised in Connecticut and grew up eating lobster rolls so wanted to try their roll and clam chowder. His son ordered the chicken sandwich and I went with the Cubano. The Cubano sandwich was very well made with ham and moist, tasty pork, mustard, cheese and some flavorful chimichurri on a toasty roll pressed to perfection. My friend really enjoyed his lobster roll and chowder. I've had lobster rolls from Feast 808 in Manoa and from Cousins Main Lobster in Vegas so I think I'll try theirs next time to compare; but it seems to be on part tastewise and for just $17 is a bargain. The lobster is drizzled with garlic butter and the roll looks buttery and toasted to perfection. You order inside from the counter (or online) and they give you a beeper to notify you when your order is ready. You pickup your orders outside at the window and can sit at one of the tables nearby. They've got a pretty nice variety in the menu... both in food types and ethnic styles and they all sound awesome. The lobster roll and lemon curd tart from here are fantastic. I got the butter herb lobster roll and that sucker was loaded with chunks of real lobster. I hate when places use fillers. There was none here, just all lobster meat. The roll was only about 5 inches long, but was enough to fill me. The bread is baked by the owner's wife. It was toasted to perfection. Their lemon tart is one of the best that I've ever had. It was creamy with the right amount of tartness to it. I believe that this is also made in house by the owner's wife. The clam chowder and shrimp bisque weren't bad. I preferred the clam chowder. I can't do spicy foods and the shrimp bisque packs a punch. They actually tell you that when ordering. I'll give Fat Cheeks * * * * Four "Good" Stars. Here's what I liked: The food was tasty and good. We'd ordered a "plain" shrimp dish, which came with sauce our 6 year old didn't like (and we anticipated that, 'thus ordering it plain) and we were given a replacement without hassles or issues nor problems, which is always a great customer service experinece. The lobster roll was supposed to be legendary locally, so we had to try it. It was good, maybe even great. Possibly too much butter (or is there really such a thing as too much butter?) on the roll, making it a tad messier to eat. Here's what I didn't like: I wish the location had better seating than it being a counter service place with a few antiquated dingy tables (part of the complex not by Fat Cheeks design nor accountable ownership) indoors. So, aesthetically it wasn't that great of a place to eat there and I'm sure a lot of people take orders for "pick-up / to-go" but the charm of eating the food fresh and practicality while it's hot and ready to eat makes me want to tell them to try to get a better location or negotiate a better set-up for customers to eat. read more

I've seen so many pictures of the lobster roll from here that we just had to try it. It was $15 for the lobster roll and chips. We got two of them. I decided to share one with my daughter. My husband also wanted to try the shrimp bisque. It said it was spicy so I didn't want to get one for myself. They said it would take around ten minutes so we just walked around to look at the other vendors. They were spot on with their time and we got it and brought the food home. The lobster roll was a lot smaller than I thought it would be. I would say it's like half of a sandwich but it's packed with lobster. With the lobster roll, you have a choice of what kind of seasoning you want on there. I went with butter garlic. I think you can also get salt and pepper also if you prefer that. I wanted to try this place the last time I passed by when I ate at Kamitoku Ramen. My son and I both ordered the Warm Lobster Rolls with fries for $20 each. We only waited about 10 minutes and our food was ready. The lobster flavor was really good but I think it needed a little bit more butter flavoring. The toasted bread was really, really good. A-Okay. I decided to take my parents here to try the lobster rolls. This is my second time eating Fat Cheeks, but first time actually coming here. We tried the trio, and the dressed lobster this time, along with the clam chowder. The dressed lobster rolls were okay. I liked the buttered flavor way better. The lobster meat tasted kind of watered down? Like thawed meat, if that makes sense. The bread wasn't as soft as I remembered and a little thick. The trio was the same, the lobster crab and shrimp were all dressed style. The shrimp had dill in it along with cucumber slices and we didn't care for it. These were cold like salad style. I also had to try the clam chowder this time around and unfortunately it was similar to the bisque. The flavor just wasn't there. We came during lunch and they were slammed! They had had the longest line of all the vendors and they had phone/online orders stacked up. If you place an online order you don't need to wait in line. The lemon tarts were very good. My friend and I specially went for the lobster roll! You have a choice between buttered, dressed or plain. Buttered is exactly how it sounds, they slather melted butter all over the lobster. Plain, of course means just the roll and lobster meat. Lastly, dressed means the lobster is tossed in a mayonnaise and celery mixture before put in the roll. My friend and I chose buttered and let me tell you, that's definitely the way to go!! The roll was freshly buttered and toasted, the lobster was buttery and juicy, not fishy at all! They really stuff the roll with tons of lobster meat including the claw!! The rolls also came with a small wedge of lemon to add some freshness and a bit of tart. My husband loves this place, so much so that he hunted them down when they moved. I'm not a lobster person. This is the "it place" for lobster goodness. Located in Ward Centre, next to Robert Dunn Golf Hawaii. We went straight away after work hours, and it wasn't crowded at all. They have an external window for ordering, and lanai seating both on the interior and exterior of the building. We chose the lobster cheeseburger and fries, along with the fish and fries. The cheeseburger was bomb! Cheeseburger topped with buttered lobster, lettuce, tomato, and red onion, with their in house made mayo dressing in a hamburger bun. The patties weren't very meaty, but that offered a nice balance between the lobster and the hamburger. I didn't have any of the fish, but consensus was a good one. Flaky white fish, battered with their house seasonings. Served with lemons, tartar sauce, and hot sauce on the side. The fries were chef's kiss! Crispy and just delish. Coming here for the first time was awesome. The person of whom I think is the owner was very nice. I ordered the lobster sandwich dressed. It was filled to the brim with lobster and seasoned well. The bread was nicely toasted and Uber buttery. The sandwich also comes with your choice of chips too(potato chips, not fries). If I weren't heading home soon I'd probably be back for seconds. Three to four huge lobster claws that could come plain, buttered or dressed. I picked dressed. Came with a lemon wedge to give it some acid to help cut through the mayo and butter. Legit lobster roll and filled me up. Definitely happy with my choice and can't wait to go back to try the crab roll. For the undecided, there is a trio roll combo for $16. Got a side of clam chowder $4 for an 8oz serving. It came with a side of croutons and bacon bits onto. This was a flavor bomb! Likely one of the best clam chowders I've ever had. Regardless, the stats and reviews show Fat Cheeks is "GREAT." Five stars great. Is it? Is it really that good? It's OK. Not bad. Not great. Yelp shows "OK" is a three star. When I first bookmarked this place, I noticed so many delicious foods from huge pork bowls, pork sandwiches, whole roasted pompano, and etc. It looked pork-tastic! Even its logo shows a happy pig's face! Now, Fat Cheeks has morphed into Fat Claws, as in it now offers a variety of seafood rolls and soups. Everything else before is now all gone. pe Fat Cheeks Hawaii is located in the Ohana Hale Marketplace on the left side of the entrance. During these Covid times, you can only order with your phone or on the tablet at the counter and pay with card. You'll need to enter your phone number so you can receive a text message of when your food is ready. It's very simple and easy. The menu isn't extensive, as you can see, so I opted for the Trio & Chips for $16, which is 3 half sandwiches with crab, cajun crawfish, and shrimp. You can tack on an extra $4 to substitute for a lobster roll, which I did, and subbed out the Shrimp. Chips is literally just a small bag of potato chips! With so many review clamoring about the lobster roll, I actually saved that to be eaten last. Best for last right? Oddly enough, it was the Crab Roll that was my favorite. It wasn't overly dressed, portioned and seasoned well, and I could actually taste the sweet crab meat with a subtle hint of spice, and a nice pungent note from the raw scallions. My second favorite was the lobster roll. The portions were a little less generous, and had more cucumber filler. Taste wise, it was okay. The dressing and seasoning really overpowered the taste of the lobster, but another issue is the lobster had that just thawed, watery taste. I also didn't get that buttered taste that everyone seems to mention here. The crawfish was my least favorite. It also had that just thawed, watery taste, but even more so. The dressing and seasoning were way too much. It was strong and salty, and mixed in with the watery crawfish yielded an unusual and not so appetizing taste. The best part was the basil mixed in as it brought a nice bright and herbaceous note that somewhat saved this roll. I am surprised no one has mentioned this about the bread, but it tastes and eats exactly like a big crouton that's baked halfway. The shape, outer crust, and the seasoning. It had the butter and garlic taste with herbs and seasonings. The bread was pretty firm, which made it difficult to close a little and actually eat it like a sandwich. Overall, I was a little disappointed. I had higher and different expectations since 90% of the reviews are five stars. The food was a-ok. Not bad. Crab roll was good! Lobster and crawfish were subpar. The thawed watery taste of the meat was not very pleasant. This was the first, and so far only place I have ever gotten a Lobster Roll from and I instantly fell in love with the food. I tried it with some friends when I went to Hawaii a couple months ago and we all went back the day we were leaving. I'm writing a review now because I had a dream last night that I was eating it again so I figured it must be a sign. The bread was super butters and the lobster was delicious. Had the lobster truffle and the shrimp chimmiechurrie - both overflowing with super delicious fresh seafood. If you like garlic, definitely get the chimichurri shrimp. Lobster Roll ($20.42) - Market priced, this is probably the best lobster roll that I've had on the island so far. Both the large claw chunks and shredded meat were wonderfully seasoned and bursting with flavor. Make sure you squeeze some of that tangy fresh lemon wedge. The roll had toast marks but was cold and dense - I feel like this had been sitting out and would have been perfect if it was hot and toasty. Chimichurri Shrimp Roll ($13.75) - The partner got this roll - also big, buttery, and exploding with flavor. The shrimps are perfectly cooked through and still soft and juicy, while the sauces and salted tomatoes elevate the entire presentation. She described it as heavy looking, but without the heavy feeling after you eat something rich and oily. Fries ($4.00) - Big serving of battered crispy fries. Great taste and crunch, would not hesitate to get this again with my order. It should be noted that the rolls come with a side of chips, which cannot be subbed for fries, but you can sub a drink and order a side of fries. This worked perfectly for us to share fries and get drinks. Servers were super friendly and accommodating. Parking is easy in either Ward garage. Order at the window in the mall and pickup outside, with lots of free seating inside or outside (inside is super cold). I'm not a lobster craving person, but this is the place to go. read more

I ordered the lobster roll. Roll was loaded with garlic, butter, and salt, and toasted lightly for a crisp exterior. Claw meat was firm and the shredded lobster was just as enjoyable. Good quality stuff. Comes with a bag of chips. The salt was a little much (and I love salt.) Could use something lighter in the basket to balance out the umami bomb. Ok with all the hype we had to come and try and honestly we wasn't sure what to expect but it wasn't what we actually thought. Ordered the Lobster Roll with Butter - Nice pieces of lobster that over filled the bread, doused with butter. Clam Chowder - lots of pieces of clams, potato and creamy also bits of bacon. The order area is on the inside while the order pickup area is on the outside where the chairs and tables are located. After ordering, they give you a remote buzzer that will vibrate and beep when your order is ready. If your order will take a while, there's a chocolate store across from it and a golf shop right next to it if you need to kill time. Otherwise you can just chill outside at the pickup area. Service was amazing! The cashier was friendly and had a chill vibe. I mentioned I was going into the golf shop and he was very informative in letting me know as long as you don't go pass the bookstore then the remote buzzer will still be within range. Parking is pretty easy. They're at the Ward parking across Nordstrom Rack and TJ Maxx, same center where Genki Sushi is in. On the 1st floor there are some 15 minute parkings available if you're going to just do takeout. The food was very fresh and the fries were still crunchy even after a 25 minutes drive home. Always wanted to try and finally did, delicious. The MP for the lobster roll was $20 today and it was a fair portion! The lobster had been frozen but still tasted delicious and sweet. When it's served with butter you know it's usually great lobster meat. Highly recommend if you have a hankering for Maine style Lobster roll! read more

First off let me just say my expectations was a bit higher then I thought only because of what I saw in pictures. It was a bit pricy for me and the options to sub things out was minimal if not you were unable too. So first let me start off by saying the lobster roll and chips was okay. Taste was good and it wasn't to filling and for the price for me I thought it wasn't worth it. I also wanted to sub out the chips that it originally comes with for French fries instead and unfortunately I was unable to but I could sub it out for a drink and pay for a side of French fries which was something I felt was a bit of a bummer. However they do have outside seating and parking is great as well. Keep in mind to order you have to go into ward village and to pick up your order is in the back.
