Ala Moana Center has two food courts. The Lanai is the smaller one, and the other one, Makai Market, is a complete zoo with over thirty kiosks and customer flow a chaotic storm, especially in the early evening. Somehow Jamie W and I end up here when we don't give any forethought on dinner options. This is my roundabout way of saying that this food stand was a miss for me. Feeling particularly carnivorous, I was drawn to this Hawaiian-style hofbrau because they offered several meat combo options. I ordered the $23.50 Roast Chicken and Prime Rib Double Combo Meal (Photo 5). It seemed like a fair price for a lot of protein and three sides. When we finally found a place to sit, I was immediately disappointed at the overly rare condition of the prime rib, chewy and hard to digest. Ironically, the chicken was overcooked presumably from being under the heat lamps too long. At least the steamed broccoli, grilled zucchini, and creamy risotto were edible, but it was too late. I dumped a lot of it in the trash. The food here exceeded our expectations. Lahaina Chicken Company is found at the food court in the Ala Moana Mall. I initially had lowered expectations because I was at a food court but I take it all back. The food here is excellent. The service is fast and professional. The ambiance is loud and lively given the location was inside a food court. There's plenty of tables and seats. We got their prime rib, chicken, corn, jap chae, and mac and cheese. The highlight was the prime rib. It was cooked so perfectly. It was tender and juicy. All the other components were delicious as well! The only regret I had was that we shared this order. Loved this place until recently. Last year I would go to this place for food, and my plate would overflow. It would be enough for at least 2 to 3 people for a good price and I was happy to pay it because the food was good. Today I went again after a while, and bought the same plate. I usually get which is a double combo, roasted pork and prime rib and was with my wife and we were happy to have the meal then we opened up our order and saw that the company cut down the amount of food they offered for every plate. I paid the same price for a full plate last year and now paying the same price for less food. If the company is losing money and needed to cut back on their food they need to lower their prices too. but I'd rather pay for the same amount of food with a higher price, but not the same price for less food. My partner and I recently did a chicken off between Raising Cane's and Chick Fil A in the Ala Moana food court. Then I realized we made a grave mistake and should have just gotten the half chicken from Lahaina Chicken Company. We're infrequent customers, but when we do get it, it's now always the half roasted chicken with three sides. Prices have been creeping up and it's about $21.5 for that combo meal, but it's such a better deal than the fried chicken from the other guys. Plus, if you select vegetables, you are actually eating relatively healthy and you can easily feed two adults plus a kid or two or three sort of hungry adults. The fried chicken guys will cost you easily more than that for two combo meals. The roast chicken is juicy, well-seasoned, and piping hot. It's always delicious. They keep the chickens generally whole and only cut them in half when you order, so dried out chicken is pretty rare, especially if you go during busy times. The sides that come with the combos range from mac and cheese unhealthy, to healthy salad, with mash potatoes, broccoli and cheese, corn, chop jae, and mixed vegetables depending on the day. Did I mention some combos come with three sides? Did I also mention that this combo always had more chicken to side ratio? That's a luxury these days when you run out of starches and vegetables and you still have a quarter of your chicken left to go. Plus the sides are good, the vegetables are fresh, the noodles are flavored well, and the gravy on the potatoes gives thanksgiving vibes. For $21.5 plus tax to feed 2-3 people for a healthyiish, delicious hot meal is amazing. The fact that you can do this in a high rent mall like Ala Moana is mind blowing. Protip: We once got the whole chicken plate and had to take home so much food. Advised to stick to the half chicken unless you're going to a party. Bathrooms are shared with the rest of the food court and while there are a lot of seats, there are often a horde of hungry people sitting in those seats. Parking is mall parking so depends on the time and shopping season. Finally, doesn't look like they have a credit card surcharge. 4.5 Stars, especially given the food inflation we're seeing these days. read more

Now, to be perfectly honest, after doing an initial lap of the food court to see what our options were, I actually quickly dismissed Lahaina Chicken. Between their name and the trays with fried chicken and roast chicken I saw folks walking away with, I figured this place was just a chicken shop. My gf, on the other hand, took a closer look at their menu and display case and saw just how much they have to offer. In addition to the aforementioned items, they also have roast pork, beef short ribs, hamburger steak, mushroom chicken, and a solid variety of sides. Still, despite having all of those options to choose from, it wasn't that hard to figure out what to pick for our DOUBLE COMBO MEAL. -- PRIME RIB I may have feared the worst (overcooked, rubbery, bland), but this was pretty legit, especially from a food court. The cut was bigger than I had expected, the seasoning was decent, and the beef was tender! Yes, I've had better at restaurants, but I've definitely had worse. -- FRIED CHICKEN Although it wasn't as good as my favorite fast food fried chicken, this was pretty solid. The batter was crispy, nicely seasoned, and reminded me of Chinese fried chicken (no breading) while the chicken itself was very juicy. The risotto was cooked decently well, had a nice bit of cheesiness, and was well complemented by the mushroom and truffle oil flavors. -- ZUCCHINI MEDLEY Maybe it's because I'd been craving some veggies, but this was great! I was pleasantly surprised the zucchini wasn't mushy/overcooked (it probably helped that they were cut into such big pieces) and that the sauce wasn't too salty. -- MASHED POTATOES & GRAVY For better or worse, this was pretty standard. The consistency was really smooth (I wouldn't have minded some chunks of potato) and was neither too thick nor too thin. A bit bland without the gravy, though. Even though it's pretty clear already, I almost feel compelled to say again that I'm so impressed by Lahaina Chicken. Just seeing prime rib and risotto offered at a mall food court is noteworthy, but the fact that they also tasted pretty good makes it that much more notable. Plus, for what it cost (about $28), this felt like a steal of a deal! So Flavorful and Filling Lahaina Chicken is seriously delicious. The chicken is so flavorful and juicy, and you can literally smell it while walking through the food court. That's how you know it's good. I like the white meat, and you can order à la carte for $4.50 per piece--and the pieces are huge. The prime rib....not enjoyable. With the combo plate you get 3 sides, which we got coleslaw, Mac n cheese and long rice. Then you get a choice of two proteins which we chose the chicken and prime rib. Prime rib came with gravy which we asked for on the side. The long rice was left untouched since we didn't end up liking it. Mac n cheese had an okay flavor and I finished the coleslaw. Service was quick. Location is in a food court so it's pretty loud. Overall, food was very foo court level. It went from hot to like warm within 10 minutes and at the end it was barely warm. Not sure if I would recommend. The food here is... if I'm being honest it's ok. I go here everytime I come to ala Moana but that's mainly because my dad and brothers used to always get food there whenever we went to ala Moana so now I automatically go there when I come to Ala Moana as well... and it's only in ala Moana and I usually try to eat at places I can't get on the west side. The chicken is good but I suggest getting the thigh because the breast can sometimes be dry. The prime rib is tender. it's cooked medium/medium rare, cooked just right. I personally could use more salt in the food. Back then they used to have small salt packets that you could grab but some reason they stopped providing it. As for the sides... I like the mushroom risotto. The Mac and cheese lacks any flavor for me so I don't usually get it but my gf wanted it. Usually I'll get the mushroom risotto and mashed potato with gravy and the combo plate will fill me up. Overall the food is good. I finally sacrificed a meal to try them. ATMOSPHERE: Located in the Makai Market food court of Ala Moana Center, they're a takeaway counter with hard to come by communal seating. MENU: Salads, chicken, pork & prime rib. FOOD: 3-Item Plate I chose roasted chicken (dark meat), buttered corn, mashed potatoes with gravy and broccoli in a light cheesey-creamy sauce. The 1/4 piece of chicken was tender, juicy and good-sized. I detected a light truffle flavor on the skin which was still palatable to me. I couldn't finish all of the broccoli as the sauce was too overwhelming. SERVICE: Staff were friendly and food service quick. The chickens were hot, fresh and chopped to order. This is my go to place for one food item! I was introduced to this item by a friend over 5 years ago. I was told Lahaina Chicken Co. (LCC) had the biggest and best ever tasting chicken wings! I laughed and chuckled...from a food court vendor? No way. Well, I was proven wrong. These wings are huge! I'm not kidding. Like 3 regular sized wings into one of LCC wings. The coating on the wing is not oily. It's crispy and seasoned just right. The meat is moist and tender. The drumette portion of the wing is almost the size of a regular chicken drumstick. I order just one wing for a meal. If you're really hungry, maybe you could go for one more? And the price? Unbelievably affordable at $2.49 a wing. I hope they can stay at this price point. The pictures do not show the size well. Next time I'll place a ruler next to it. The LCC wing is on a lunch size paper plate for reference. Try it and you will not be disappointed. This place is pretty good for fast airport food and very convenient if you're in the Terminal 2, E Gates section. The standard plate comes with your choice of: a quarter or a half chicken; roasted, fried, or in mushroom gravy; made with white or dark meat; and three sides. On our visit, there were also ribs on offer. Our roast chicken (a quarter of white meat) was moist -- very moist! -- with a thin layer of skin, fat roasted away, but not at all dry or overcooked as grocery store roast chicken often is. Vegetable options on our visit were largely prepared from frozen (mixed green and yellow beans + carrots; plain green beans; peas and carrots; and corn), but serviceable. They were a wee bit buttery and included enough salt. You can also choose mashed potatoes and gravy, pasta salad, and green salad (a slightly wilted iceberg mix) as sides. I have a feeling that by local standards (e.g. not Waikiki ones), these plates may seem spendy at first at around $20 for a quarter chicken plate, $23-ish for a half chicken plate. But portions are almost laughably large. My eight-year-old and I thought our quarter chicken plate would be enough to feed our entire family of four (or two large, hungry adults). If you're hungry, come here. The half chicken portion is substantial and the three sides included are quite generous, although quality is just okay on the sides. Tomatoes are fresh enough, broccoli is okay, the soy sauce glass noodles were pretty meh. The roast chicken is properly cooked, still firm and juicy, and I seriously wished I had stomach space to try the prime rib too (alas, next time!). Service is efficient and ambiance is, well, crazy busy mall food court. Even for a late lunch they are BUSY. I'm honestly shocked by how terrible the food was at The Chicken Company in Oahu. The chicken was dry, flavorless, and tasted like it was sitting out for hours. The sides were just as bad and cold, soggy, and completely unappetizing. I won't be returning, and I definitely don't recommend it to anyone. What happens when you forgot to charge your car? You find the closest charger before you die out on the road. Fortunately Ala Moana Center has a few chargers and nearby to where I was when my low battery alert popped up on my screen. I wasn't sure I had enough power to get home so I stopped by. Luckily I found an open station to charge up. Since I was stranded and was in the mood for prime rib thanks to a fellow Yeep, I decided to grab lunch at Lahaina Chicken Company in Makai Market Food Court. It was during lunch so the food court was packed. The food stall had a line of people but the staff worked efficiently to get people their meal and move on to the next customer. I decided to order their Prime Rib & Roast Pork plate. It comes with three sides. Since I haven't had mac & cheese in years, I picked that first then their mashed potatoes with gravy and corn. I asked for medium rare for the prime rib and they cut me a blood red slice which was perfect. After paying, I walked around looking for an open spot to eat. It didn't take too long and after I took my photo, I dug in. The prime rib isn't great but it subsided my prime rib craving till I can eat it somewhere other than a food court. They trimmed the fat off before placing the slice on my plate so I appreciated that. It didn't have much fat and was mostly meat. Portion wise, it was pretty small. The roast pork was dry but thankfully they put additional gravy on top. I left content and my car got a quick charge. In the Ala Moana food court, this chain seems to have a cult following. Finally tried it out with a chicken plate with 3 sides. Surprisingly moist and well seasoned roasted chicken, best part of the meal. All the sides had a miss- mashed potatoes were watery (saved by the gravy), mac and cheese was bland, broccoli was a little undercooked. Not bad but not likely to do a round 2. A little on the pricey side for fast food but pretty good portions. read more

I eat here quite often and the food has always been good. There's only one item that I always get and that's the fried chicken (one breast and one wing). There's a fifty cents uncharge for each piece of white meat, so my plate comes to around $15. Each plate comes with three sides. Their roast beef and ribs look tempting, but I can't get away from the fried chicken. Maybe one day I'll try the other entrees. Their fried chicken is crispy and the meat is moist. If you've ever had Woolworth's fried chicken back in the day, that's what it tastes like. The three sides I usually get are the mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, and peas. Sometimes, they'll have different sides, so I'll do the cheesy broccoli. This place is located at the Makai Market Food Court at Ala Moana Center. read more
