This local favorite is spot on!! We made a quick couple day road trip to Harrah's Metropolis for a quick get away. We were hungry so we made the 4 min walk to Fat Edd's. Walking in the front door woke up my senses. It is a sports bar atmosphere. Menu is on the wall where you read and place your order and select any open table for drink orders This is where Lauren our server cheerfully greeted us with a beautiful and welcoming smile followed with great service and provided a "local's" recommendation for places to visit Anyway our food order was above expectations and the drinks were delicious as well If you are in the area I would definitely visit Fat Edd's you will not be disappointed read more

I was not happy, they are very stingy with the onion rings and the cheese on a philly cheese steak. It was not cheese whiz, it was so little I do not know what type of white cheese they used. My brother said his burger was dry and they barely put any mushrooms on his mushroom and swiss burger. read more

Nutshell: Ok food, good prices, not in a huge rush to get back. Our group was headed back home from Nashville and decided to make a quintessential stop in Metropolis to visit the big guy and grab some grub. It was around 2pm on a Wednesday and there may have been like 5 other people in the place. The service was good, everyone at the counter was very nice. I decided on the Cajun burger and a side of corn nuggets. They cook everything to order, but it's still quick service. The nuggets were fine, pretty much as you'd expect. I was expecting a bit more from the burger though. The cajun sauce kind of got lost somewhere and the pepperjack cheese didn't really add much flavor. Overall it was a decent burger and the size was good, but I was expecting a bit more oomph or something. Everyone else's food came out fine and I didn't hear any complaints. Just an FYI, you order food at the counter to your left and then drinks are ordered from a waitress at your table. Kinda of odd, but I'm sure there is a reason for it. For everything, I think my tab was about $11, which wasn't terrible. I'm not sure what else there is in town, but I would try something else before stopping back in. read more

Not bad, not great but not bad. It was a lot better then we expected. Tasted like typical bar food for what I had ordered. Apparently there burgers were really good (I didn't have one but my friend did). The reviews helped to navigate around, it would be confusing if you had never been there. You order at the front and sit down and then another set of servers come take your drink orders. The guys behind the food counter were friendly the people behind the bar weren't as friendly. We were headed south on 24 and needed a lunch stop. So glad we wandered off the highway! Obviously a favorite with locals, the restaurant was hopping with the after-church crowd. Never expected to find a gem like this in such a small town. Ordered a sampling of a lot of their goodies and was still under $25 for 2 ppl. Very very reasonably priced for very good food. The peel n eat shrimp is a must. Shrimp is meaty and sweet while the sauce tasted homemade. The shrimp kabob was tasty. The baked potato was excellent! The catfish platter had 3 huge pieces of fish. Golden battered to a crunchy perfection. So many other options looked appetizing on the menu and there was no shortage of options. The staff was helpful but the only thing I didn't like is that you have to go pick up your own food. At a place like this that has servers coming to your table for drinks what's the big deal of bringing your food to you as well. read more

Came back today on our way to Nashville. Dad ordered a dozen peel and eat shrimp and a hot dog (what a combination, I know), and I ordered the 1 piece catfish dinner that comes with a side salad and one side, of which I chose corn nuggets. We sat at the bar, ordered drinks, and waited. My dad got his shrimp first. They were huge and served with really great cocktail sauce. He loved his hot dog and I was impressed by my meal. The catfish was crispy, not the least bit greasy, and the corn nuggets were delightful. The side salad with Italian dressing was cold, green, and very fresh. I had a bud light draft that was only 2.75! Love this place, everybody should get the corn nuggets and catfish at least once. The prices are extremely reasonable. read more

We ordered food from a not helpful young man at the counter. I tipped over 20% and was then told tips only go to cooks. Okay. We looked for a table, nothing clean. We went to the bar, wiped up the dirty bar counter ourselves when no one acknowledged us. Sat down, still no acknowledgement. We left without our food. The high level of apathy and total lack of customer service helped us decide not eat the food here. The kitchen and the cooks did not look to be holding up a cleanliness standard for serving food. I only have one complaint about Fat Edds. The food was too good, the portions too big, and the prices too low. Wish it was in Wisconsin, it would quickly be my favorite restaurant. We had the catfish platter and a steak kabob. A starter of deep fried mushrooms and baked potatoes and Cole slaw for the sides. The catfish was perfectly prepared, the coleslaw fresh and crisp, the potatoes baked in a salt roll and perfectly done without being mushy. The mushrooms we're probably the best I have ever had. Our order was Hot Buffalo Wings(very small and dried out), peel and eat shrimp cooked and chilled perfectly with very good cocktail sauce and Philly Cheesesteak Hoagies. For the Bar area and bartenders, i'd give this place 5 stars. I came here really for the food and that is where i was disappointed. The food you have to go to a counter to order, they'll give you a number when it is ready. The burger was a good price, but over cooked and the Shrimp that they brag about, well they were tiny. I got the appetizer of BBQ shrimp kabob and was rather shocked by how small they were, that the tails were still on and the BBQ sauce was watered down (thinnest bbq sauce ever). I've been to this establishment about three times now. And each time I had a really great experience. The food is cooked to order after you go up to the counter and place your order. You then find a seat and wait for them to call your number. They have table service for drinks. There are three or four areas to sit and enjoy your food / company. It kind of resembles Fast Eddies in Alton. I had chicken this past visit and was very happy with the quality! Juicy and full of flavor! They had a nice condiment bar so I could top my dinner with romaine lettuce, onion, pickles and tomatoes! If you're in Metropolis seeing the giant Superman.... Stopped here twice after a long day of diving at the quarry. The service was fast, friendly and the food delicious. I recommend their corn nuggets if you're feeling unhealthy. We were in Metropolis for the solar eclipse and the housekeeper at our hotel recommended Fat Edd's as the place to go. The building has an eclectic bar/diner vibe from the exposed brick and metallic touches to the open kitchen and self-serve food counter. We ordered the peel 'n eat shrimp, the catfish, and the BBQ Pork. By far the best thing I had all night was the peel n' eat shrimp. They were fresh and firm, and the cocktail sauce was killer. All the platters come with a side salad and a side. The salad was very good and fresh and the dressings while standard were not sup-par. I ordered the corn nuggets which turned out to be fresh corn in a liquid batter deep fried and crunchy. The inside stays liquid-ey and is yummy against the fresh pop of the corn. The potato salad was homemade with cheese and bacon. It was very good. The fries were slightly soggy but they might have been undercooked. The catfish is huge, one piece is a substantial dinner for one. The BBQ pork was ok. The sauce was alittle sweet for me but the meat was well cooked, flavorful and not greasy. The atmosphere is definitely skewed towards the bar, it is loud but not inappropriate for families. There are 2 main areas and an outdoor patio. I stopped in for lunch after receiving a recommendation that they have great food. I ordered a black and bleu burger and fries. The menu said the burger was marinated and topped with bleu cheese and Swiss. The burger was over cooked and dry, topped with bleu and American cheese, not Swiss. The fries were undercooked and limp. The waitress brought my drink and never followed up through my entire meal. The place looked to be about 1/2 full in the front were I sat. The cooks had a tip cup by their register...would I have gotten better food if I had tipped before getting my meal? Who knows, I think the tip comes after you earn it. It's probably more about caring about the quality of food you put out and they clearly didn't care with my order. 4 strikes is a total fail: over cooked burger, Wrong cheese, undercooked fries, and no follow up service. read more

Very cool place--and just happened upon it. You order at the counter right when you walk in. Good selection of food to choose from and atmosphere is very casual. It appears to be a popular place so expect the counter line to be long. The peel and dip shrimp is popular here, as is the BBQ and burgers. Surprisingly big place inside. Seems like 50 chefs working (slight exaggeration) and they seem to be efficient. I'd give it a 5 but the wait for someone to take my drink order was ridiculously long. One kid waitress for about 50 people is a bad ratio to provide good service. Turns out the young lady was asked by management to take and serve orders for a large group gathered in the room. Normally people order at the counter right when they walk in. This made for bad service to everyone else in the room--those of us looking for a drink order. The bar in the other room was open, though, and if you prefer to not be a victim, just go there and order your drink. This place is definitely the place to go when in Metropolis. read more

AWSOME! What can I say food was AWSOME! Had the blue cheese burger. The flavor of the burger was amazing, had that grill flavor I desire wow. The burger even fit the bun and for the price even better. I had a order of wings they were delicious great flavor and crispy outside juicy once inside. There was ample selection of beers both draft and bottle and the price was amazing too. This place was an amazing find, service was great staff was friendly professional and polite. As a frequent traveler and in many different locations this is a plus as I am not a regular. I would of given four stars had it not been a bill at bar and separate bill for food. So. Fat Edd's...it's a little bi-polar. But in a good way! You walk in and find a place to sit. A server takes your drink order. So far so good! They have display kitchen with flat-top grill and a char broiler so the menu is mostly burgers and grilled meats. Here's the bi-polar part: you have to get up and go get in line to make your food order and pay at the end of ordering. They fresh cook your food, call your number out and you go pick it up. Oh, and there's a big barrel of peanuts at the front door so you can scoop you up a bucket for the table or bar. I've been staying down the street for five nights (this the last night) and have come down here every night and closed the place down thrice! The food is very reasonably priced as well as the alcohol. Here's the real tip - the cooks, servers and bar tenders are all great folks and hook you up with some good fun! This is our current favorite place for a great meal in a casual atmosphere. We live about an hour away, but visit every 3 or 4 weeks, also have brought our family when they visit. You have to order the food on the left side when you come in, but there's table service for drinks. Every food item we've tried has been delicious and very reasonably priced. Stopped in because of the billboard as you enter town. Pros: Nice decor. Plenty of seating. Inexpensive menu. The food isn't terrible if you like fried foods. The wings are OK. Cons: Most of the items on the menu are straight off the Sysco truck. Based on the type of place, I was expecting hand battered onion rings. I watched the fry jockey pull the frozen onion rings out of the bag. Stay away from the Buffalo Chicken Dip..its some pre-made concoction that is warmed up in its package. The service was very slow. You annoyingly have to order and pay for your drinks separate from the food. We waited over 15 minutes for a waitress to take our drink order. Even though it was Superman Celebration, the place was about half full. The bill for our party of 5 came to $53. That's not bad, but the food does not live up to the expectations. read more

Doing some business in Paducah and had some time to kill. Came across river to see the Superman Museum and got a little hungry. Looked on Yelp to find a place and a photo of a burger with pimento cheese caught my eye. Came in here and was disappointed that it wasn't on the menu. However, I got the Cajun Burger and cold beer. You order food at the counter and they call your number when it is ready. They have several burger options and the burgers are great! Condiments are available beside the food pick-up spot. Additional options are available such as nachos, chicken tenders, and hot dogs. Also, they have peel-an-eat shrimp. It is suppose to be good. Food was not great. Philly cheesesteak tasted like roast beef, I had to put Buffalo chicken dip on it for it to taste better. Fries were soggy. And you also have to pay separately for your drinks. Which in turn makes you have to tip the person bring you drinks even though you get your own food, make it full service or allow us to get our own drinks. read more
