Signage on Friday 9/26 at Off the Grid: Fort Mason

My last stop at Off the Grid: Fort Mason last Friday! I wanted to end on a sweet note, so this was perfect! Plus, I love popsicles! I was in the mood for a more straight forward flavor, so I decided on the Peach lavender: featuring peaches from good humus and cloverleaf farms and lavender from good humus farm ($3.50). The popsicle was a little on the sweeter side for me, but had a lot of peach flavor and a nice hint of lavender. I am a little intrigued by some of their other flavors. Especially the Mango and sticky rice. I will be back the next time I'm looking for dessert at my food truck buffet!

Tried these popsicles at the presidio picnic from a lone guy pushing his cart around. The popsicles were delicious and I really liked the uniqueness of his flavors. Choices like Mango Sticky Rice, Peach Lavender and Hibiscus Mint are not your usual options for popsicles. The vendor was very friendly and offered us free stickers as well. I'm not sure why this is marked as $$$$ because the popsicles were only $3.50 a piece which for SF seems really affordable to me. Overall, Fat Face has a great name, great flavors and a quality product. I'll definitely be getting one anytime I see this cart in the future. "I'm a fan."

they say the 3rd times the charm? CHICKEN & WAFFLES ice cream popsicle sold out at eat real festival then it wasn't in stock at all at otg presidio i contacted mr fat face and he sent an emissary to otg omca w the cee-dub everyone knows i don't like desserts of any kind yet i went all the way across the yay bc #eatweird is priority 1 butter maple ice cream + fried battered bits = yes mr ff asked me how it could improve... waffle bits if they could be done non-soggily? "gravy" ribbon in the mix? (whatever that means) dust the bar in tiny fried crumbles like good humor? instead of a popsicle stick use a fork as a metaphor for savory dish? pinch of black pepper? cartbro said their past experiment flavors included Bacon & Eggs i'll be first in line if they do "bbq pork ribs w fried okra & hushpuppies" popsicles wish more companies would brave the flavor frontier 5th star for customer service so i could finally try this elusive creation. eager to see future special editions!

Love these Popsicles so much! They're so good and they have interesting flavors. I tried the orange vanilla cream and I loved it. I wish they sold these by the box... I would definitely buy some!! And they're fat free :)

Came here yesterday during the ERF in Oakland. I got the Mango with Sticky Rice flavored popsicle, which was unique and yummy.

Fat Face's strawberry coconut popsicle is pretty delicious, as is the mango sticky rice.

TLDR: Super lively spot for dinner in the heart of North…read moreBeach. Portions are large and everything is great to share. Awesome spot for big groups and comfort food. Decor is more old school and it can get loud, so be prepared to shout over dinner. ------ FOOD 1. VEAL PARMIGIANA (4/5) Tender veal with a light breading that paired very well with the cheese and tomato sauce. Large portion that was easy to cut and share. Wish the edges were a tad crispier. Appreciated that it came with a side (we chose the ravioli). Wasn't life changing, but it was solid. 2. SPICY VODKA RIGATONI (4/5) Pasta was perfectly al dente. They poured a very healthy amount of sauce on the rigatoni such that the pasta was well coated and there were small pools of sauce in each piece of pasta. Sauce has a pretty strong kick to it. It's not overwhelming, but I think it was enough for me to only have a few pieces before I called it a night. 3. TRUFFLE FRIES (4/5) For the most part these are excellent. It's a mountain of very thin, crispy fries (what McDonald's dreams it could be). The truffle flavor is very prominent, and the two different sauces this comes with are excellent (one is a traditional mayo and the other was slightly sweet). However, some of those fries were so salty as to be inedible. Remember to drink lots of water. 4. BREAD SERVICE (3.5/5) Of course, hard to hate on a free bread service. They came out with a big basket of thick sourdough bread slices and a small butter keeper. Since the bread was room temp, it wasn't very special and it was tough to pull apart. But the flavor was there, and the softened butter was appreciated, despite the small butter portion relative to our bread portion. 5. JOE'S RAVIOLI (2.5/5) Unfortunately the only big let down of the night. The ravioli had so little filling that I actually could barely taste it even though I could see it. The outer layer of pasta was relatively thick too, so it overpowered what little filling there was. The ravioli also stuck to each other, so I ended up just biting through multiple pieces of ravioli at a time and scoping up tomato sauce from the container so that I could add flavor to the taste of the pasta dough. Large portion though! ------ ENVIRONMENT / AMBIANCE * Old-school decor featuring red leather booths, ornate wooden banisters, and lots of separate rooms throughout the restaurant. Lots of tables and always packed * Darker ambient mood lighting. Definitely more casual feeling than their sister Little Original Joe's location in the Marina * The restaurant is in the heart of North Beach right next to Washington Square Park, Tony's Pizza, and Flour + Water Pizzaria ------ SERVICE * You really need a reservation to dine here. You could probably walk in and get a seat by the kitchen in the back, but it's super crowded back there, waiters and customers are constantly weaving back and forth behind you, and it's overall not nearly as nice as sitting at a table (not always the case at restaurants!) * Our waiter was fine. He did the trick but wasn't particularly warm or helpful. Was attentive with filling our waters throughout the night

Located in North…read moreBeach area with the entrance hiding in a small alley, the restaurant is bigger than we thought with both indoors & outdoors seating. The outdoor patio is definitely a blast for a summer day in SF, also converting to a free Tango class at 6:30 on Wednesday evening. We started with some special drinks as recommended by Ali, the most generous guy you've ever met. We got Japanese Artisan Gin Pomegranate Mint Martini and AB's Espresso Martini. They were so refreshing after we had to walk on some hills in 80degree weather in SF. After that, the appetizers we ordered came out with Caprese Salad & Mahmoud's Delicious Pork Ribs. The portion was huge for just appetizer. It's been a while for me to have that crispy baguette toasted with olive oil & vinegar, nothing could be better than that. The ribs were tender, the bonus point was definitely the sauce as it wasn't too sweet like the other places. You can't miss pizza in an Italian restaurant, so we ordered my favorite Crispy Prosciutto De Parma, Poached Pear. Prosciutto is my love so I'll just order it wherever I go if they have it on the menu. Super crispy, even though it's not as thin as I expected, I'd still order it again when we come back. It's served with a bowl of cheese powder and chili flakes so you can customize your pizza. The main entrees were definitely pasta and we just had our eyes bigger than our stomach. If you don't know what to order, ask Ali and he'll be more than happy to help you with all the recommendations, and even offer some alternatives for your pasta when the restaurant is not too crowded. My favorite was Pasta Dellacasa with Prawns added, mixing of all the sauces they have. It was so rich and I felt like no other pasta we had can be compared. They serve it hot and you can ask for as much cheese as you want for your pasta because they make it at the table for you. The place was really cool since the building was built over 100 years ago. Even the trees we were sitting next to are over 100 years old, which is pretty cool. You can even find the menu when the original place just opened, with pasta price ranged from $2-3.

Pulled up and saw the Valet($18) sign. We know parking it hard to find in that area so we just parked. The sign is for American Bites and the restaurant next to it. Walked in which is totally hidden. I would have never known it was there. We are greater instantly and told to choose any seat. They have indoor and outdoor dining. We chose indoor. Looked over the menu and order a Tequila Sunrise with Don Julio Anejo. Quite tasty Went for the clam chowder appetizer... definitely 5 stars. Flavorful and creamy. I would come back just for that. Daughter ordered the Seafood Linguini with a cream sauce. The waiter kinda questioned it but made it anyway.. They added Parmesan cheese and cracked black pepper at the table. Everything came with a nice crusty bread I order the Ciopinno!! It was one of the best I ever had.. Added Parmesan and cracked pepper of course. Everything was 5star including the service we received. Left there and recommended the place to several friends.. I'll be back soon.
