We were also given complimentary edamame, which was thoughtful, although it was bland, dry, and cold -- almost like it had been sitting in the fridge for a while. Since it was complimentary, we didn't think too much of it. For the mains, we ordered the beef teriyaki and chicken teriyaki bento specials. Unfortunately, both proteins were sliced extremely thin. The chicken especially had a jerky-like texture, and both the chicken and beef lacked flavor. After reading other reviews, they had similar experience. The teriyaki sauce itself was also pretty bland. The tempura was okay, but the tempura dipping sauce tasted watered down and lacked the usual savory depth you'd expect. The one standout was the roll topped with salmon and avocado with spicy tuna inside. It was presented beautifully and tasted fresh and well-balanced. Based on this, I honestly think rolls are what they do best. I really hope they improve the preparation and seasoning of the chicken and beef because it was a major turnoff -- and this is coming from someone who eats pretty much everything. It's hard to justify paying around $22 for a bento when the main protein feels flavorless and insubstantial. With so many good Japanese resto in Lake Forest, I would skip this until the proteins are fixed.

The entire process was seamless and incredibly easy, especially considering this was a larger-than-normal party. Taizy handled everything professionally. She seamlessly added the extra guests without hesitation. Her only request was that we send over everyone's food orders ahead of time so the kitchen could prepare and ensure nobody had to wait too long. And wow -- they absolutely delivered. Every single order came out accurately and in a very timely fashion. No mistakes, no confusion, and the service was impeccable from start to finish. The servers were organized, attentive, and handled a very large group with ease. Service was truly 10/10. One of the reasons I chose Kin Sushi for a large group dinner was because the menu truly has something for everyone -- udon, sushi rolls, vegetarian rolls, bento boxes, chirashi, sashimi, and something for everyone. They even had Thai iced tea, which isn't normally something in you have in a Japanese restaurant. Our server was very attentive and accommodating at the beginning, but when we brought to her attention that the salad which was served with the meal was wilted and rotten, she absolutely did nothing but will let the kitchen staff know. In addition, the rice was probably a day old and clumpy that none of us could finish it. Bento protein portions are small especially for the salmon. Ginger and wasabi was offered as an option when sushi was ordered. No apologies and nothing was comped from our bill.

I spent about 25 minutes trying to place a takeout order through their website, but it kept giving me problems and I couldn't get to the payment screen. I called the restaurant, explained the issue politely, and asked if I could simply place the order over the phone. I was told they only accept orders through the website and there was nothing they could do to help. Since I was nearby, I decided to drive to the restaurant and order in person. I explained again that the website wasn't working and that I already knew exactly what I wanted to order. They still refused to take my takeout order and told me they were "first come, first served" and that the employee needed to take care of the customers at the tables. What made this even more frustrating was that this is a very small restaurant with around 10 tables, and only about half of them were occupied. Most of those customers already had food in front of them. At that point, after trying online, calling, and physically driving to the restaurant, I simply left. I understand having an ordering policy, but when your own website isn't working, there should be some reasonable way to help a customer who is actively trying to give you business. Unfortunately, there was zero effort to find a solution. Extremely disappointing experience and customer service.

It has the perfect balance of spicy tuna and albacore, topped with plenty of crispy fried onions, which really bring the whole roll together. Minato has been a go-to sushi spot for my family and me for years because every dish is consistently delicious. I especially enjoy the udon, chicken teriyaki, salmon and, of course, their signature rolls. One of the servers, Anggie, is always attentive and even remembers my family's regular order, which makes every visit feel personal. A thoughtful touch I always appreciate is the complimentary hand-carved orange served at the end of the meal. It's a refreshing palate cleanser and the perfect way to finish a great dining experience.

I understand that it may not be possible to offer two flavors on a small pizza because of its size, but wouldn't it be possible to offer a half-and-half option on a large pizza? Almost every pizza restaurant we have visited allows customers to choose two different flavors on a large pizza. Being able to choose two flavors on one large pizza would allow customers to enjoy more variety without having to order two separate pizzas. I'm not sure what the reason is for not offering this option, but I think adding a half-and-half option for large pizzas would make many customers, including us, even more satisfied. Overall, we had a very nice evening celebrating my husband's birthday, and we really enjoyed the food. I hope the restaurant will consider offering this option in the future.

Both dishes were delicious. The curry was rich and flavorful, and the beef was stewed beautifully until tender. The roti was a little on the greasy side, but still enjoyable. The pad see ew was especially good and very satisfying. One thing to note: even the mild spice level had a noticeable kick in both dishes, so keep that in mind if you are sensitive to spice. Overall, a really solid Thai spot that I would happily return to.

I saw the old Maki Yaki had changed and it was now Fat Fish - all you can eat. I decided to take a chance. You have the option of doing all you can eat or order off the menu. When I decided to pay the $24.95 and go all you can eat, the sushi chef decided to take control and tell me he is whipping me up something special - the fat fish roll (house special). I thought alright, I'm going to like this guy! He served it up and it was pretty darn good! Very fresh tasting and full of balancing flavors. I tend to judge my sushi spots based on whether they can make a salmon skin hand roll without burning it. You'd be surprised how many places just can't get it right. When served it was PERFECTLY made, no burnt pieces and the omega 3 oils bursting out of the skin! Left me wanting more. Next up, the Boston roll. Again fresh tasting and the fried asparagus was a nice touch! Will order that one again. Over all this place was a welcome surprise. So i brought my friends here after college and tried the AYCE for the first time and wasn't disappointed however due to understaffed of the work place its it's only flaw and i can understand the lack of attention when its busy cuz i use to work at a restaurant but however its been only open for a bit so they are looking for another server i bet but HONESTLY the food is good and its old owner was great and the daughter aka the waitress is trying to live up to maki yaki 3 name and i do plan to come back its a good place to just chill drink beer and just chat with friends or family Best of wishes Fat Fish and one interesting thing was my buddy ordered $30 worth of sushi but they told they were going to charge him as if he ate AYCE so he would save $5 read more

I came here with a friend and tried a few of their dishes and I'd say their food is not half bad. I loved their idea of an "all you can eat" sushi but one thing I kept in mind is that they are low on staff so I didn't get my food very quickly. Everything is always fresh and tasty. This spot can get a bit busy, so I must not be the only person who comes here often. Service is always ok, nothing to rave about from my experience. Sometimes it can feel a bit crowded inside, but it's worth it. They also have good happy hour deals!

They offer a full menu of traditional Japanese fare and a sushi list. They serve sake and Japanese beer. We ordered a handful of sushi rolls, nigiri, and tempura appetizers. All food came out fast, fresh, and hot (the tempura). What I really loved was that the crab used in the sushi rolls was really fresh. It didn't taste like the typical krab that other sushi restaurants use. It was really amazing. The nigiri melted in your mouth, and the tempura appetizer was cooked extremely well -- the shrimp wasn't floppy, the vegetable wasn't soggy. Just perfection. When I walked in, I noticed the lights half off, the menu screen turned off, and a woman sitting at a dining table on her phone. She looked up at us and slowly put her phone down and got up to go behind the counter with a pace that made it clear that we were inconveniencing her. She then said that they only had brown rice because the white rice was "still cooking." Still cooking? 15 minutes after open? While you're sitting in the dining area on your phone...? I'd expect a bit more hustle from someone who can't get the store ready by open. Super unprofessional and off-putting. On top of that, the store smelled very strongly of fish, which is a bad sign for the quality of the fish. Obviously some odor is expected, but it shouldn't smell like I'm sitting down for lunch with a sea lion and two seagulls.
