First time there and we really liked it. Service was good and the place was super cute and close to the movie theater. The chips and guac were a good start. My husband loved the pork belly taco. I had the cilantro lime salad (could have have more of a cilantro-lime flavor) with shrimp, my son had the kid's chicken and cheese taco (the chicken was a little too spicy for him) and my other son had the quesadilla (there was sour cream squirted all over it and he is picky so we had to scrape it off). Was very happy when I went to dine at Fat Fish! They have a great chips and guacamole appetizer, it tasted amazing. The chips were restaurant made and delicious. The pricing on the tacos are really reasonable. We had ordered 6 tacos total and it was all under 50 dollars before tip. Excellent fresh food. Get the lobster special while they still have it - a little pricey for $16 but comes with great old bay seasoned fries and has huge pieces of lobster. The cilantro lime salad is really good as well, and huge, so split it with someone. read more

I'm not sure why I waited so long to try fat fish, but I am so glad I did as it has quickly become one of my favorite spots in town. I absolutely love the spicy shrimp and chicken tacos (I wish I could buy a bottle of the sauce they put on the tacos), cilantro lime salad, and old bay fries. The food is tasty and fresh, prices are reasonable, and portions are generous. The restaurant has a peaceful, beach-y atmosphere and the servers are friendly. Best tacos in Jersey! I tried the Bang Bang shrimp taco tonight and it was amazing. My husband always gets the pork belly taco. We also love the nachos. I work in Roseland and we found this place on our way to pick up tacos from a neighboring restaurant. The fish is very fresh. Our office favorites are the blackened fish and the pork. The bowls are great as well, I recommend subbing in blackened fish for baja in the bowl if you want a slightly healthier option. The location itself has a beachy vibe. Clean and modern. read more

My wife and I have eaten here twice for lunch. The food is excellent and the chef is able to tweak dishes to your liking. The quality and presentation of the food can't be beat. Every bite tastes as good as it looks. We enjoy the tacos... be aware that they use different tortilla shells depending on what you order. Not a fan of corn tortilla.. flour is better. Stopped in for lunch about 2 weeks after they opened. We ordered the nachos for appetizer and were pleasantly surprised. Not what I was expecting, but way better. They were not nasty store bought chips loaded with grease and fake cheese. Instead they were hot freshly made tortilla chips with fresh black beans, amazing housemadd guac, simply delicious. Then my fiance and i each ordered a baja taco with the chipotle aioli from another taco. Amazing! The freshness of everything is what really won me over. The only reason i did not give 4 stars is because we were the only table in there and i had to get uo to look around for my server for extra sauce and something rlse the second time. My family loved the fresh salad and tacos. However not one service person smiled or made us feel welcomed. My 4 year old even noticed the waitress being sad and asked why? EH. The food was mediocre. The service was awful. Fairly expensive. I guess we picked the wrong day to try this place because it was packed and they were extremely under-staffed. Just left Fat Fish Taco and I thought it was great. We started with the Nachos which were very good. I ordered the spicy shrimp taco and thought it was delicious....Very flavorful. My wife ordered the Baja taco and the chicken taco and she said they were very fresh and tasty (she let me try both and I agreed). I also had the buffalo chicken bowl which was very good but I wish it had more chicken. My one daughter had the kids quesadilla and fries (she ate it and didn't say much lol). My other daughter just picked on everyone else food cause she said she didn't want anything. We didn't get dessert but our server offered to give both the kids a sundae that comes with the kids meal even though we only ordered one meal. He was a nice young man and the service was very good. Overall I would recommend Fat Fish and we will be returning, however I do agree with most reviews that $6 for one taco thats not that big, is a little much. read more

Okay, I just came from there on a Thursday and it looks like this is the new "In" place for Caldwell! I had the chips and Guacamole. I do not eat guacamole but I am dedicating this as the summer of guacamole and craft beer, The Guac was fantastic paired with Sweet Water 420. I had the steak taco and the pork taco. Nice, clean beachy decor with fast and friendly service. The homemade chips and quacamole were tasty yet small-portioned for a $4 starter. I did not taste onions, cilantro nor tomatoes in the quacamole. We ordered the Baja cod fish bowl with--surprise--non-yellow rice and black beans, green and red cabbage, crema and one piece of lighty-breaded cod. The dish was very light and delicious but it needed more seasoning, more cilantro and red onions. A wedge of lime on the side would boost it up immensely. I get that this food is SoCal but the seasoning is sparse. We loved that the dish wasn't smothered in cheese and that it was hot and filling. The iced tea is served in slim glasses and we weren't offered a refill. We will probably return to try some other dishes. Overall a great place to eat a delicious meal. read more

I don't even know if I can technically write a review since all I had was an Iced tea. Went in for lunch today and ordered a pork taco, quesadilla and a side of rice. I waited 45 minutes and never got my lunch. The server told me at one point that the quesadilla was up in the window but could not give it to me until everything was ready. I explained that it was ok, for I can't eat everything at once anyway. He came back to me a few minutes later and said he was sorry but the chef doesn't allow the food to go out unless it the whole ticket is completed. So while my quesadilla sat in the window and they worked on the taco I decided to leave. Maybe I will give them another chance. read more

We were finally able to check this place out today. I brought the ultimate food critic (my 4 year old) with me and we ordered a small meal of cheese quesadillas, old bay fries and some drinks. I asked the very attentive and sweet waitress for salsa for my daughter to dip her fries into and she brought out a sampling with some chips. The chips were very delicious and we loved the salsas. They were very fresh and fairly spicy. The cheese quesadillas were basic but good. The fries were delicious! I would have liked more old bay but it was probably just the right amount for my daughter. Everything was very hot and reasonably priced. The service was excellent and the decor was well thought out and totally fresh. It was nice to have such a nautical little spot in the midst of Italian restaurants in Caldwell. I only had a couple of critiques. The man who appeared to be the owner had all of his receipts and paperwork spread out on the counter as if he was an accountant during tax season. I suggest doing paperwork behind the curtain during food service and not forgetting to welcome or thank your new guests. Never under estimate a good host. My other critique was the chef I caught sitting on the sidewalk taking selfies with a "cigarette" literally right behind the restaurant in the parking area. My daughter did not approve. read more

Fat Fish Taco is good. Damn good. Living in Los Angeles for 25 years I have had all of the tacos you can imagine in every venue there is. Fat Fish is not what I would call an authentic coastal Mexican taqueria. It does not have that grittiness or food character. I will say they have a contemporary American spin that does work, and work very well. I found the waiters and folks behind the counter not having a good time with no smiles and a gruff is it closing time yet vibe.. I did not get a warm, fuzzy welcomed feeling. That and only that is why I did not give 5 stars. Would I come back? Absolutely. If I want warm, fuzzy owners and an authentic gritty experience I will head down the block to Taqueria Mexicana. Before you read this review know that the food is freshly grown. So I went in here hoping it would be good because there are not many good Mexican places,it was GOOD! I can't get around the green salsa they make which is so good and the menu quality. I had the nachos as a appetizer which were good. I also had the quesadilla which was also amazing. My taco was good and it had a nice side of rice. The people who say with one order you get one taco are ring because you can get three tacos in one order. Passed by this place many times and finally stopped by 6:30 on Friday night. I thought the service was very good. Our waiter was pleasant and helpful. I enjoyed this restaurant but I believe it is too pricey for tacos. While I acknowledge that the tacos were fresh and the fillings homemade, I think $18 for three tacos is too expensive.
