Too expensive for me. Sorry! :( I've driven past this place countless times headed downtown and always wanted to give it a try because I love Italian food! Finally the perfect day to snag some arrived. Got our meals to-go, which in a way was like "thank goodness" because at least I didn't have to then also leave a tip for the wait staff... Doing so would've made this $50+ instead of $40+. Ouch! DX The bottled beverages are $4 a pop, canned for $3. Gosh dang, fam, you could've at least made those affordable to even things out instead of finding another way to gouge... Placed my order at the counter and sat in the lobby on the hard chairs to wait for it to be prepared. It took A WHILE. Which maybe makes sense for stuff like lasagna and pizza. Idk. I was there pretty late at night (nearly 8pm) on a Monday night, so maybe that was part of the problem too? It got later and later into the evening and I got hangier the longer I sat, I'll admit. Oops. At least when the order was ready, it was piping hot, so even on the 15-minute drive home it stayed plenty warm when we opened it up to consume. Sadly though, the garlic bread was halfway to soggy because it steamed inside the tin foil... Thankfully our air fryer was able to restore it to crunchy glory. The food was all pretty tasty at least, and in a reasonable quantity, so even though it was pricey, I did get three meals out of my $21 pasta dish (I'm on the small side though, so your "mileage" may vary). If I was made of money, I'd be happy to return to try the dine-in experience. It looked like the inside and outside had been painted with fun colors, which I always find to be a plus (I like knowing some artist out there got to contribute their craft to making a place unique). Or maybe some time I'll just drop in to try the gelato (or have the in-laws treat us when they visit, pfft). The parking situation is... well, a situation. It's not good. They have a small lot out back that isn't well delineated as to where you should or can park... and escaping from that lot is also a burden. I think most people just parallel park on the opposite side of the street? Or maybe walk from Lake Nokomis? Or maybe it's all local folk who walk from home. I get it, not every place can accommodate a lot of vehicles though. read more

I took my daughter to this neighborhood Italian restaurant that I used to dine at when I was in college. I loved their garlic Alfredo. Small Italian restaurant off Cedar avenue, with a small parking lot in the back. Otherwise street parking is fine too. They have a small dining area, which was full on a weekday. I got the fat special in a hot hoagie, it was solid, I really enjoyed it with the tomato sauce on the side. I also got a slice of cheese, solid slice not super thick but thick enough to hold like a taco. Our server was very friendly and helpful with her suggestions. If you're desperate for pizza then fine. The dough and sauce is always very dry. There's way too much flour in the dough. And it's never fresh when you order. It tastes and looks like it's sat for a while. It's dense and just not good at all. I would not recommend unless you're desperate and this is your only option. The service is okay. read more

I ordered Fat Lorenzo's for a Vikings game viewing party. I've had the pasta zydeco on my radar for a while, but picked up a pizza on a whim to share. Gotta be honest. I wasn't blown away by either and I'd say overall it was just okay for the $50 I spent. For the pasta - I had them hold back on the roasted corn. It just didn't seem quite right for my typical cajun pastas (maybe it is a more traditional "cajun"/creole thing?). Overall - there wasn't much flavor or any spice at all and the dish had a crazy amount of peppers/onions (which initially had me excited). It ended up like a 1 to 1 ratio with the noodles! I ended up with a plate full of peppers/onions. I think calling this pepper and onion Alfredo may have been more accurate The pizza was decent but honestly reminded me of discount chain pizza without the discount price. I added jalapeños and have to say I thought the order got screwed up for green peppers (which I had plenty of with the pasta). I checked the receipt so I assume they got it right - but the way they were cut the chunks were huge and not circular like I'm used to. I think they also were de-seeded because there was zero kick. I placed an order for pick up. I have a kiddo in tow, and she is sick and only wants PIzza. We get there and the order isn't even in the queue to be made. Ok that's not super bad, it's pizza, lasagna, a sandwich and some bread. We order something to drink while we wait. We are sitting there quite a while waiting for our pizza. The guy is very apologetic. I get it, it's a small place and they are soing dine in and take out, it's a lot. We get home with our pizza, lasagna, sandwich and breads. the food is ok. Maybe it's that I had to reheat it since it's winter in MN, but it wasn't as good as I remembered it. We also got some gelato that was probably everyones favorite thing. the place is super cute and the service is rustic is feeling. they seemed to have some fun beers in cans. Attentive service for ordering and help at good was delivered. It took awhile for us to pay the server as it started to get busy. They were able to accommodate our party of 6 and food came out as quickly as possible. Good wine and beer list for a small family owned restaurant in the neighborhood. The baked rigatoni could use a little more sauce. It was a little dry and I like to have a lot of pasta sauce on my pasta. The flavor was good with the sausage. Portion size was good for the price. I absolutely love this place. Yoi walk in and smell the aromas of cheese and meats cooking on thier pizzas. The gellato is to die for and you see it as soon as you walk in. We had the chocolates and coconut gellato and thier mixed berry gellato. Absolutely amazing. The place is small and very busy but we were able to get a table. We had their bread stick and spinach artichoke dip. The dip was loaded with cheese that I'm still trying to digest but it was well worth it. The service was great considering how busy they were. Wait time is sometimes long and when you walk in there is a chaulk board you need to add yourself to so you can get a table. I normally just go for gellato but we were pleases with what we has to eat and everything is very filling. They have a small parking lot and also lots of street parking read more

The crust was absolutely delicious and it had a nice little crunch to it instead of other restaurants thick crust. I'll start with what was amazing...the aroma as you approach the door is wonderful! It made me anticipate a delicious, gooey, cheesy, tomato pizza pie loaded with savory meat! Yet, alas, I was soon disappointed. Stepping in to Fat Lorenzo's is like stepping back in time. That's cool. I waited in a short line to claim my online order (easy process!). Staff was friendly enough - not rude, but not really welcoming. I was given my pie and off I went. Within 5 min or so we were eating our small Carne pizza. Lots of topping? YES. This one, Carne, had red sauce, cheese, pepperoni, sausage, Canadian bacon and sliced meatballs. Toppings were fine, sausage has an odd spice blend. For me, the cheese was mushy, not gooey and stretchy like mozzarella I love. But the crust? Yuck. Way too much bread for our taste - very thick crust, sort of dry and not very flavourful, not even chewy. And the base of the pie is also very thick bread. It's topped with a dark, sticky marinara of sorts which ended up making that sauce-crust interface pasty and gummy. Bleh. So, we are most of our pizza - left the pizza bones. I've always loved Fats pizza. The crust is usually bubbled and tasty and the topping to use a friend's phrase "lumpy". But this pizza wasn't that. The crust was hard and overcooked. The pizza was flat. The cheese was grainy, not melty and bubbly as you'd expect extra cheese to be. Frankly, one of the national chains could've done better. Altogether it was disappointing. Considering the expense ($20.99 base cost large pizza + $3 per each topping totaling $35.99) I ate a few slices because I was hungry but I think that maybe my last fats pizza. read more

We had driven by this place a number of times and some of my husband's coworkers had driven pretty far to pick up lunch here in the past and every time he would say "we've got to go there! It's tasty!". So finally we went and it WAS tasty! It's a fun little place on a busy corner but it has a little lot in the back, and plenty of street parking too. They do a brisk take-out business but have a cute little restaurant too with wood booths as well as tables. They have crayons and paper tablecloths to pass the time whether young or old, but the food comes out fast and hot from the kitchen so you won't need to keep busy long! We started with the homemade bread stick which is huge and doughy, and has a garlic parmesan butter on it (very yummy), and we tried the Artichoke dip because we couldn't pick. It was SUPER cheesy and creamy and rich. It came with little crostini toasts and I had read some reviews and added some of the hot peppers on the table and that kicked it up to round out the flavor! Very good! We then ordered a create your own pizza (medium was plenty after the apps) and the dough gives it a lovely edge with plenty of cheese, a fresh tomato sauce base that doesn't make the bottom weak because somehow they managed to get a nice crisp on the bottom, and very nice quality ingredients! Loved the atmosphere, the service was fantastic, they offer a nice beer and wine selection as well, and next time we will try some pasta and hoagies (and hopefully gelato)!! Overall, very sub par pizza slices. They are a good size but the cheese was just not it. The artichoke was also bland and not restaurant quality. Service was Stellar, but food was not good. I would recommend getting Dominos or Toppers instead of Fat Lorenzo's Any day. read more
