Honestly one of the best Mexican spots I've ever been to. Everything was good and the service was so friendly!

I was expecting their food to be good but it wasn't really that great at all. I've definitely had better. Plus, I'm not in to paying $27.75 for 1 small coffee and 1 less than mediocre tasting burrito. If it would let me, I'd give them negative stars. I'm forced to give them 1 star just to post a warning not to go here. You'd be better off going to a taco truck. Seriously! read more

I would recommend going here with your friends it's amazing and located in a beautiful little town I would recommend you go here for the 4th of July for the small town, lovely parade. Fat Lou's Cafe is close to my parents house where I like to visit them as their getting older and I went in the cafe for the first time and asked Lou if it was a spicy dish as I can't eat it like that and he said no I'll make sure it won't be. Absolutely a gem in the hamlet of Walnut Grove. If you're there on the weekend, don't miss the rib tips plate with fabulous housemade potato salad, chili beans, mac n cheese and ask Lou to whip you up some of his spicy BBQ sauce! The hibiscus (jamaica) iced tea is slightly sweet with hints of berry infusion. Lou himself is so warm and friendly and clearly dedicated to and proud of his craft. We will be back! read more

The Ribs were so outstanding and they gave us so much we had to bring some home and the potato salad was worth going there just for it and the beans.If we are ever there in the morning we want to try their breakfast since dinner was so good. And the owner was so nice he even brought some other Bbq for was to try too.If your ever close you have to stop by and try them they are so good. read more

The 1/2 lb Harris Ranch patty cheeseburger was the best I've had in years. Never thought a burger could be so extraordinary. The relaxing, hometown atmosphere has personality and lots of interesting decor. This obviously isn't a chain: it's someone's labor of love. Thankfully, the background music isn't too loud and you can actually hear yourself think. Best of all, the owners are friendly and welcoming, and free with their knowledge of Walnut Grove and surrounding area. Don't miss this place when you're passing through! read more

My wife and I decided to take a small road trip to Alma's Restaurant in Walnut Grove, CA. We were quite surprised that they had sold the business. The restaurant is now called Fat Lou's. We figured, what the heck, sounds interesting. Yes, we were correct. They have a nice breakfast menu, consisting of 5 items. Each breakfast is $20.00. Example, pancake, two eggs and two strips of bacon..$20.00. OUCH!!! Coffee is not included. I can now understand why we were the only customers in the restaurant. To their credit, the place has been remolded and it looks fabulous. However... $20.00 for one of the 5 BASIC breakfast is CRAZY. IF you are looking for a very nice location with views of the river...this is your place. Just understand, each breakfast will cost you $20.00 per person. Yep, I spent $40.00 (without coffee) for two BASIC breakfast. Best of luck for the new owner. read more

I visited Fat Lou's cafe last weekend while I was visiting from out of town. Lou, June, and the rest of their staff made a really special experience for me and my family on my stepdad's birthday. We felt welcomed as soon as we walked in the door. We ate there for lunch and dinner, and again for breakfast the next day. Now I'm sorry for the TMI, but... MOST restaurant food makes my stomach hurt, and I was worried. But I felt SO good after eating at Fat Lou's, even after stuffing myself for every meal! That is the benefit of using simple, fresh ingredients with minimal processing. I really appreciated the quality, care and love that went into our food. Food tasted ok but was way too expensive! We got a breakfast plate that came with 2 scrambled eggs, 2 bacon and 1 slice of toast....and we also got a chorizo breakfast burrito....and 1 coke. I'm glad we picked this place for lunch. The items we ordered had lots of flavor. Something as simple as chicken wings were surprisingly good - crispy on the outside, tender meat inside. Jalapeno poppers were on point. Also got to order the chilaquiles with chile verde sauce and carnitas. It had some heat to it, which was perfect! The only thing missing was a cold mug of IPA.
