Before checking out of the hotel, I went to the Fat Rooster which is what the hotel uses for Room Service. I wanted to pick up the food and I didn't see espresso on the menu. I went down for an egg sandwich which was $17; But they had a buffet for $21 so I got that instead. While I waited for my omelette, I toasted some bread. Well I went to add butter, and the bread was moldy! I told the lady who was on omelettes and she apologized profusely. She went and told the guy in the back. Why did the guy start arguing with her that he doesn't critique her. I mean SIR! You have ONE JOB and you're getting upset?? Anywho that kinda spoiled my appetite. All in all not a bad place to stay, but I won't eat at the Fat Rooster ever again. read more

I had the pleasure of dining here on Saturday morning and I must say that I was impressed. I had the breakfast buffet and it did not disappoint! The woman at the grill station was super friendly, and made whatever you wanted cooked to order. She scrambled some egg whites for me to perfection, and the waffles were some of the best I've had from a restaurant. Overall, I had an amazing experience! Shout out to the staff as well! My visit was just fine, but nothing spectacular. We went due to the convenience of the restaurant in proximity to our meeting. Service was passable but inconsistent. Food took about 45 minutes to come out and we were the only ones in there. Was quite frustrating. French toast was way too firm and bland. Definitely don't order that. Omelette was decent but they were missing a couple ingredients I requested - Avocado, goat cheese, and hot sauce. So before you sit down, make sure they have in stock what's listed in the menu. Portions were also far too small for the price. They also don't serve alcohol so no mimosas, but maybe that's just an Indianapolis thing. Servers were quite friendly. It took a while to get served my order. Had the Eggs Benedict which tasted fine but didn't agree with me for much of the day. Not sure what the issue was; but I wasn't feeling great afterwards. Food establishment set on the inside of the Hyatt regency in downtown Indy. It was during covid so they was doing to go boxes for breakfast that was ten bucks. It included a couple slices of bacon, a scoop of scrambled eggs, a serving of fried potatoes and a choice of Oj or apple juice. Costs $10 for that. The service here was very top notch. The manager (I assume because he was a guy in suit) was very accommodating and friendly. The food was just solid. Nothing great but not terrible. I'm sure in non covid times there menu is more diverse and thrives more. But it hit the spot with what we needed. We was kinda eating on the go anyways as our daughter was competing on a cheer comp in the area and had to practice with her team on the second level of the Hyatt. read more

So while the food was fine - I don't feel like what we experienced was what we thought we were walking in to. This had no breakfast menu or hash browns - or options -- our only option was a $24 breakfast buffet. The guy making the omelets and waffles was great - but when you think you will be able to order whatever you want - and maybe don't want to spend a lot and instead HAVE to get the $24 buffet - it's a problem. We were also the only people in the place and service was still kinda slow, had to flag down the one waiter a couple of times. read more

This is a fine place to grab lunch (the only time of the day I've stopped in) - but what troubles the Fat Rooster is that there are plenty of other more than fine places within walking distance. Probably the "nicest" place inside the Hyatt/PNC Center itself though, if you're really restricted to the building and want a sit down dining experience. The made to order pasta for the buffet is a nice idea, but having to wait in long line kind of defeats the purpose of the buffet. Someone in my group has always gotten the pasta though and been very happy with it. The other items on the buffet are all good though, although beyond the salad there isn't always much of a selection. Ultimately it's a perfectly fine restaurant, but definitely not a place I'd go out of my way to visit. read more

This place is under new ownership and it shows in a very positive way. Here are some of the great changes if you are familiar with the old setup from about a year ago: - paper biodegradable straws instead of plastic! - larger drinking glasses so you aren't constantly waiting on refills - better brewed ice tea that tastes fresh instead of overbrewed and burnt - no warm bread tableside, but multiple types of bread to choose yourself and butter upon request - two types of sliders replace the previous rotating hot pasta dish - cookies and various desserts replace the bread pudding - Chef Bryan is back! He left years ago and his charm and skill were sorely lacking in his various replacements. He's back, baby, and better than ever! The prices in general are still pretty outrageous. And they still have the same waitstaff who are friendly but MIA more often than you'd like. So I can't give five stars. But our experience was night and day better than the last time we were here. Also returning are discounts for State of Indiana government employees and lunch punch cards! I spoke with the manager and I'm hopeful they will reinstate the lunch discount for building employees, too. If you're downtown and want a high end pasta buffet with lots of options, a warm space, friendly staff, and biodegradable straws, this is the place to go. read more

Is the Borg in Star Trek always say, resistance is futile. The signature buffet, is the absolute best. Whether you want an omelette made to order, waffles made to order, oatmeal and other delicious items, you will have your taste buds impressed and you stomach satisfied. The coffee is top notched, and the orange juice tasted as if they squeezed it here. The milk was what you would expect from a top restaurant. I dined here twice. The first time I had great service and the food was delicious. The second time, I had terrible service and I opted for the pasta bar which was a huge disappointment. The first time I had the chicken Cesar salad. Funny story, I didn't order the chicken upgrade but it came out that way anyway. It was good, the chicken was grilled nicely; however, it didn't come out sliced on top of the salad but rather as a chicken breast cut in half and plopped on the side. The anchovies were also on the side. But the service was good. Yeah, I was a bit miffed at the upcharge, but I decided to roll with it. The second time, I was seated by the same waitress who served me before. I never saw her again. A second waiter came by asking me what I wanted to drink. I said "Iced tea, non sweetened (because the sweet tea was raspberry flavored)," and I never saw him again. A third person dropped off my bill. At least they didn't charge me for the iced tea. So the pasta bar is the highlight at $14.95. It's a bit misleading. The day I ate there there were only two types of pasta available, a bow tie and a fusilli. You pick your toppings--spinach, mushrooms, shrimp, chicken, sausage, tomatoes, so on--it gets cooked in an omelet pan for an indeterminate/random amount of time. (Seriously, one man in front of me ordered the last of the chicken and shrimp and his pan received 2 minutes of time on the heat element but the woman in front of him had spinach and chicken and hers sat for six minutes). After that you get to pick your sauce(s)--Alfredo, red pepper, or marinara. It's nice that you get to combo them if you want. I ordered shrimp, tomatoes, and mushrooms with the Alfredo sauce over bow tie pasta. My noodles were cold and more than a little al dente. Everything else was fine. The man directly in front of me ordered chicken and I'm not sure he ever got it. There was a dessert selection, mostly cookies and pies. There was also a sandwich and salad section but it was pretty picked over. read more

This location is located in the PNC/Hyatt building. The food was good. I ordered the Honey Chipotle Chicken flat bread. The combo was very good. The roasted red peppers were a nice touch that added a little char flavor to the meal. The cheesy bread was ok. Nothing extraordinary. While the service was pleasant, it was a little sparse given that most people choose the buffet option. The portion sizes for the buffet are huge!!! Downside- you can't get a to-go plate so don't go too crazy. read more

The Fat Rooster inside of the Hyatt Indianapolis was a complete train wreck. My mom and I dined here for breakfast 2 mornings and every morning there was an issue. The first morning we dined for breakfast was on 11/10 and the service was terrible as well as the food. It took close to 25 minutes or more for us to received our order and it was quite simple. When we finally received our order both plates had cold potatoes. You would think that with it taking as much time as it did there would be fresh food. It's almost as if they took the cold potatoes from the buffet and threw them onto our plates. We dine out a lot and I know when something is made fresh to order and when it isn't. There was another table that was experiencing issues and we could see what was going on and how upset they were as well. The server spent sufficient time trying to rectify whatever their issue was along with trying to get our order out. Day 2 11/11 for breakfast was actually worse than the 1st day. Our server was nice however she was very attentive. My juice only was filled once. My mom ordered an the steak omelet and when she received it, it was swimming in grease. Unacceptable. Again on this day we sat next to another couple who experienced the same bad service as we did. We chatted with them as they shared the same frustrations. The server brought out the wrong order of egg benedict which actually was supposed to be my order and then never brought his original order which was pancakes. The server then sent the manager who came over and confirmed once again the wrong order asking if they had ordered the egg benedict. Poor guy waited 30 minute for some simple pancakes. Room service was joke. Called down to only speak with a woman who didn't understand my order. I kept asking to substitute the Canadian bacon for smoked salmon and she repeated my order back to me incorrectly 3 times. Really frustrating with that whole language barrier. We ordered on our last morning 11/12. The food was warm and on the verge of being cold. Not sure how long it was sitting prior to receiving it. It was good we had a microwave in the room. My eggs Benedict was cold and the sauce that comes with it was just as cold. The order of the seasonal fruit featured cantaloupe which was dried out as well as the honeydew. Old maybe? No salt and pepper shakers, had to call down to ask for them which obviously took more time. We took pictures of this as well to show the front desk along with the other many pictures taken. So I've been here about four or five times. The first two were very pleasant. Lately the service has been horrible and the pasta bar is not stocked. And to top it off this time my pasta was spoiled. This was my very last visit. 1. People can order the pasta bar and dine in. They pay the same price as the pasta bar to go. But they get bread and a drink and can go back to the bar as many times as they wish. Despite not being able to refill my bowl is not filled to the top. 2. This particular time the bar was out of Alfredo, green peppers bow tie pasta and Alfredo. The manager cake out and apologized and I was going to overlook this until 3. My pasta is SPOILED. so spoiled I could taste it and smell it. My friend that I went with is taking her pasta to the board of health. 4. Finally I called five times and they did not answer the phone. I came here and was greeted very warmly. I didn't know what I wanted and asked to see a menu and a man who i believe was the owner was very helpful with the menu and suggested the delicious pasta buffet. He also made sure he sat me and checked on me even though I had a waiter. He was very attentive and made me feel extremely welcome. The buffet items were fresh and the pasta stand was great! The African American chef ( i think his name was Bryan) was very personable and you can tell he took care in his cooking. I have no complaints and it was worth the price for a upscale buffet in the heart of downtown Indy. I will return and I will tell people about this place. read more

I had a ladies lunch at the Fat Rooster. They have a nice menu but also have a soup, salad, and pasta bar option that is pretty good. The option includes a non-alcoholic drink and dessert. The salad bar doesn't have a lot but that is good because you want to save room for the pasta bar. It is make your own but cooked by a chef in front of you. The pasta bar pretty much has options for everyone's palate whether you are a omnivore or carnivore. Several meat options, veggie options, and pasta options. I ended up with a spicy sausage, red pepper flake, onion, tortellini, and alfredo sauce dish it was really good. The only thing I wish could have been improved is the warmth of the food my dish was cold real quick. The soup of the day was minestrone it was okay. The dessert option wasn't appealing to the eye so I passed on it which was fine because I was full already because the pasta portion was good for the price paid. Two stars for poor service. Our server had zero product knowledge. I ordered the sweet potato and cauliflower steak gratin. She gave me a blank stare and did not seem to know what the heck that was. I had to show her the item on the menu before she caught on. My husband ordered the classic burger. The side choices were French fries, loaded potato salad and gremolata chips. He asked her what was in the loaded potato salad and she couldn't get past potatoes and mayonnaise. Duh!!!! Potatoes. Really? He thought he'd be pressing his luck asking about gremolata, so he got the fries. My gratin was amazingly tasty. His burger was good but a bit overpriced at $15 even if the fries did come in an adorable little fryer basket! I do not know if her lack of knowledge was her fault or a failure on the part of management to train staff, but it resulted in the tip-o-meter hitting its lower end. I would try a few more things in spite of high prices but not if she was my server again. read more

We waited and waited to be seated. Finally, a person from the hotel front desk came over and told us that she'd 'call them' to let them know we were there. During the time we were waiting, at least two servers made eye contact with us and walked away. We were finally seated, and again waited and waited for a server to take our order. Again, several other servers made eye contact with us, but we were apparently not in there section, and as such were not of their concern. The place was about 85% empty, and the hostess proceeded to seat another couple at a table right next to ours (there couldn't have been more than two and a half feet between our tables). Not a big deal, but a little odd. We both got the breakfast buffet ($17.50 - way over priced). The food was good, but again, my daughter waited over five minutes for someone to make her a waffle. We then waited again (almost 10 minutes) to get our check. The experience was delightful throughout. I had never dined there so I didn't know what to expect. Right when you walk in the door the aroma almost knocks you back. The salad, soup and pasta bar looked delicious but I chose to go with a sandwich. I do have to point out that it's actually a fresh made-to-order pasta bar. The staff was friendly throughout the entire experience. Maria and Kim took care of everything. The house bread was delicious. It was had a nice cheese and pesto topping. This came in great when the beef and mushroom soup came out. The soup was by far my favorite part of the meal. Kim actually let me substitute the soup in as my side even though that was technically not on the menu. My sandwich was the Reuben. The presentation was good but the sandwich was messy. The taste was good but it didn't blow me away like the soup did. Overall I would recommend it. Rating: 8.1 read more

Our group very much enjoyed our meal. Our whole family got together as a group and went there and everyone liked their food. I got the Smokey Pit Beef sandwich and my wife got the Chicken Panini. Both were very good! They are only open for breakfast and lunch, and aren't open for dinner. We'll definitely be back! Both the Hyatt and the Fat Rooster staff were very friendly, and the breakfast buffet had a lot of healthy choices. Let me start by giving props to our server Bryan, he was awesome and he gets 5 stars. Everything else, not a chance. They were very pricy and lacked flavor. I got the breakfast buffet, drink included, and it was 17.50. For two people for a basic breakfast Buffett (definitely nothing to write home about) it was as much as a regular dinner meal. That is crazy to me. We got there towards the end of the Buffett and the food tasted so. The fruit was no good, there were hardly any scrambled eggs left and they were dry, flavorless and rubbery, and they started closing everything down while diners were still eating. There were at least 4 other patrons who had the Buffett. Definitely would NOT recommend or go back. Not worth your time and especially not worth your money. read more
