Nice and trendy place. The drinks itself... I was a little disappointed. The classic milk tea was so sweet and sugary that there was little to no tea flavor! The taro milk tea was even MORE sugary sweet and had such an artificial strong sugared taro taste to it.... The sweetness of both the drinks made it difficult to enjoy. The boba itself is decent. Has a chewy texture, not bad but not great. Maybe next time I'll try a different type of drink than the milk teas... read more

My favorite boba place in dallas. Its a must have for me when I am in town. The thai tea milkshake is so rich and smooth. Another favorite is the mango green tea. It is nice and refreshing but still lots of great flavor. The boba is nice and soft which is great considering some places haven't mastered the tapioca. It has a more American feel, although boba is associated with Asian culture. That is why I probably love this place. It is the best of both worlds. They also added grass jelly to the menu! read more

This past week, my friend and I went on a Texas Tour: Boba Edition. Every day we sampled a few new boba restaurants in areas ranging across Houston, Dallas, and Austin. Our goal? To find the perfect combination of tea, milk, and tapioca. Our baseline measurement? The milk green tea and black milk tea. When it comes to their tapioca, Fat Straws knows what's up. Not too firm, not too squishy, and a slight hint of sweet that most boba restaurants lack. But although my friend enjoyed his green tea, the black tea was an utter monstrosity. Upon sampling it, I immediately gave it my friend who also agreed that Fat Straws must have gotten my order mixed up with some form of coffee boba drink. To my despair, they had not. In some ludicrous fashion, they had managed to overwhelm the simplistic but elegant black tea with a fog of conflicting chocolate and coffee notes that I had not asked for. Not to mention the sweetness of the drink was enough to make my head spin. This is to say, I'm sure Fat Straws has some great drinks. But when it comes to the most basic form of boba: the milk black tea.... search onward. You'll only find disappointment here. read more

Stopped by here while passing through Dallas and meeting up with a friend. Of course hitting up a boba place was the post meal move so we decided to give this place a try. Service was great and the people working here were super friendly. I got a Jasmine milk tea with boba. The milk tea was pretty good, above average taste and not too milky, but not the best I've ever had either. The boba was on point though and was definitely what they do best here. If you're in the area, this is definitely one of the better boba places, and I'd definitely give it a try. read more

I knew I had to come back here as soon as I came home from college. It was just as good as ever! Fat Straws has some seasonal drinks for the summer: watermelon coolers, strawberry lemonade, a cucumber lime drink, and horchata! Of course, you can add all of the usual things like tapioca pearls and jellies, so I got the horchata with boba. The horchata is awesome and had the perfect amount of cinnamon. This was my favorite place in the world....... one day I come in and they changed the green tea milkshake recipe.... they took out the green tea ice cream and supplemented it with vanilla ice cream and just added matcha powder.... To me, this place is for bubble tea kind of like what Asian Mint is for Thai food--hip and trendy, and they put their own twist on things but they've got some very good stuff to offer. Their milk tea offerings are a bit meager (although Almond is good) but their other stuff is good enough to make me want to branch out. I had their pumpkin smoothie once and I think what they did was take a slice of pumpkin pie, shove it in a cup, and blend it into a smooth, creamy cup of sin. OH GOD it was good. They have a similarly decadent Avocado Praline smoothie. This is the only place in Dallas I'll order avocado because they do it best. They'll also usually give you free samples of their flavored teas if you like...many of them are actually worth the price! read more

I like the mango slushie. They actually put real mango chunks into it , but when I got mine the mango chunks were still frozen :-/ I don't like the bubble or tapioca balls. Sure, they nearly have no taste, but I just don't like it. If you give them to me when I specifically ask you not to, you will end up with up with those bubbles stuck to your ceiling and walls "blow gun style". read more

This is definitely a higher class of Boba tea served. The places fairly clean, simple and direct with the menu. The coconut milk green tea was not overly sweet and had a balance of both coconut and green tea flavors. The coconut slush was my favorite and the Boba carried no cheap flavor. read more

Mmmm, I LOVE Fat Straws!!!! I actually introduced Aimee Z and Jenn C to it. I can tell you, it is one of the main things I miss about Dallas, and it was the first place I went when I flew back to Dallas a couple of weeks ago. My favorite is the White Peach with Bubbles, but I usually just order a large Tea of the Day with Bubbles, since the Tea of the Day is always really yummy. Even though I am now surrounded by bubble tea places here in Cali, no place can compare to Fat Straws. They use high quality, delicious teas and sweeten the teas just right so they are not too sweet. Oh, and on my recent visit, I noticed they sold canisters of some of their loose teas, so of course I had to pick up my white peach to bring back to Cali! read more

Fat Straws is my go-to bubble tea place. I've tried almost everything on the menu from their teas to their slushees to their frappucinos -- you really can't go wrong here. The quality is top-notch too as they brew their own teas and use fresh fruits! But what keeps me coming back all the time is that they're quick and consistent! Unsure of what to get? This place is a great hangout place! I really haven't been in a cofee shop like this outside of the east coast--They have Connect Four and free WiFi! The Location is very convient do a little shopping at the Galleria or Catch a workout and then grab some bubble tea after! Prices are resonable and the couches are comfy! Come and read a book-They have a bookshelf with books if you don't own any! ~The also have a ton of magazines to browse through if reading isn't your sort of thing! Great Tea selection--perfect for hangovers!! ~They also make their own infusions, def worth a try! Enjoy!! read more

Tried this place at the suggestion of a friend who has jumped on the bubble tea bandwagon. I love the cozy setting and the staff was upbeat & a lot of fun. I wasn't really sure what to order, so I tried a cold Chai Tea with bubbles. Btw, I suck at getting the straw through the cover... I felt like a 2nd grader battling my Capri Sun all over again! The chai tea was tasty, but the bubbles are going to take some getting use to. I'm not use to chewing part of my drink, so it threw me off a bit. Even if I don't get use to the pearls, at least I know the drinks are good enough to try again. I can say with confidence that I'll be back for another go, perhaps to try one of the yummy smoothies. I like fat straws! Friendly, helpful staff, clean bathroom, loungey chairs, and even some games and books available for you. (I had a cute date with some heated games of connect 4 here once :D) I've only ever had bubble tea here in Texas, and in the Seattle area, so I can't vouch for authenticity or anything like that. I just go on my taste buds folks. The tapioca pearls (bubbles) have a great consistency. Not overly chewy or gummy, not hard, but really consistent with a great texture. I normally order a milk tea with bubbles, but sometimes in the hot summer months, those light refreshing iced teas with jellies calls my name! I love that they have a "tea of the day" that you can ask for a sample, so you know what you are getting into. I was sad when they took away their punch card system, but oh well. *With the yogurt place just 2 doors down now, it's a tough call on which to treat myself. Love this place! The staff is friendly, the place is always clean, good upbeat music with all genres, always busy and live little shop. They are always good at making the drink perfect and even will make drinks not on the menu depending on your taste buds! My favorite Drink is the Strawberry Pina Colada Smoothie! The Watermelon cooler is perfection in the summer - frozen slushy watermelon. During the holidays - the peppermint milkshake is an absolute MUST. I personally believe that Fat Straws has one of the best milk tea drinks in all of Texas -- yes, that also includes bubble tea stores in Houston. The milk tea I had here had the perfect combination of milk and black tea. Additionally, the boba I had was shockingly soft. I've never had boba that soft before and it just blew my mind. Consequently, I always make it an effort to get a milk tea here every time I come visit Dallas. The one downside I faced was that seating at this location was a little cramped. Although there is seating both indoors and outdoors, the number of tables is quite sparse. I have not had any of the other drinks so I cannot speak on their behalf, but if you're looking for an amazing classic milk tea, then I would HIGHLY recommend coming here! read more

Great place for boba/bubble tea. I usually get the coconut, iced milk tea with pearls. It's a classic. One day I tried a cocoa puerh mix on ice with milk and sugar. Wow. It's a caffine rush. They also offer the gellies. Great atmosphere, North Dallas pricing. You are better off going to Richardson to pay $2 for the basics, but this is a "hip" place to get it! For years I heard all about "Bubble Tea" (aka Boba Tea) and I was grossed out by it because I thought it was the same thing as this drink I got out of an Asian market. The drink I originally had contained "Grass Pearls", and the drink did indeed taste earthy. It wasn't until I began to date a Vietnamese girl that I was introduced to Boba officially. Now I am an Asian culture fanatic and I was nervous so I let her know my fears. She said, don't worry I will take you to my favorite place, "Fat Straws". It was my first, and started my Boba addiction, I had their Raspberry green tea with bubbles (Tapioca pearls). There were chunks of raspberry and the flavor was rich! The bubbles actually took on the raspberry flavor and basically tasted like I was drinking tea with raspberry gummy bears. I was a fan and went every chance I could with friends. I tried the various varieties of teas like Oolong and Jasmine with a number of fruits and even went traditional with the cream tea. It really was awesome until recently, they just began to skimp on the fruit syrup(mixed with bits of actual pulp). The only reason I will continue to go there and count it as my favorite is because of the fact that other places use a very thick sugar syrup usually with no fruit pulp. Fat straws seems to use juice and pulp to a degree making it a much more nutrient filled and tasty choice in my opinion. I had to have tried at least 7-8 other places and all of them fell very short of fat straws. Around the holidays they have two incredible shakes, a pumpkin and a peppermint one. They are heaven on earth. Overall Fat Straws is amazing, but skimping lately on the good stuff. They need to change that, and I will up my rating to 5 stars. I suggest anyone who likes Boba tea to go to Fat Straws ASAP and check out just how much they are missing out on. read more

FAT STRAWS!!!! Have you ever tried something and immediately hated it because you knew you were going to want it ALL the time? Yeah, that's how I was last night after our visit to Fat Straws. Thank you Vicky D for introducing me to my new obsession. Although the place is called 'bubble tea' they have other drink options as well: green and oolong teas (both with flavored options), smoothies, and slushies. This location is right in the middle of a buzzing retail/living space in the Dallas Galleria area. Parking is a beast, your best bet is to grab a spot in the parking garage. When you first walk in, it looks and feels like a private reading/sitting area that just happens to have a smoothie shop inside. If you can tone out the blenders and water running and overall business noise (I can't), this might be a nice place to come and get some reading/writing/work done. After perusing the menu and some guidance from Vicky D, I opted for an Island Passion smoothie which contains sugar and spice and everything nice :-) lol, there's strawberries, peaches, and I feel like I'm missing a few ingredients...just know that it tasted like a dream on a beach. What also blew my mind was that you can opt out of the milk/soy/dairy that they use to blend the smoothies and have your smoothie made with water and sherbet. *waves hands in the air like I don't care* When I tell you this was SO good, I mean it! Jamba Juice is typically my drug of choice, however, Fat Straws has entered as a contender for that spot! I'll be back! read more

The boba here is very consistently tasty - subtly sweet, and the texture is perfect. I always got the taro slushie here, and it's one of the best places to go if you're craving that delicious powdered taro taste, heh. I recently ordered the mango slushie and also had a taste of the mango green tea - the former was way too sweet, and the latter was way too bland. The green tea milkshake is pretty good, but it was super thick when I had it so I had to wait for the icecream to melt a bit before I could use the straw to drink it.
