But for a fast food burger, I think it's better than your typical giant burger chain. They also have shakes here which are probably a better complement to the burger than the fries. Usually we love Fatburger but was really disappointed in this location. They got our order right at least, service is quick and the patty tasted good hence the 2 stars. But the burger themselves were sloppy and wet. The bread was also stiff. The worst part is the fries! I think they were old. Tasted like they've been sitting out for awhile. First Impressions: Diner style with bright red everywhere. It smells good and it is clean. The service: its good, not great. You'll get what you ordered. I've never been struck by friendliness. The food: this is why you come here. The burgers range from big to huge. They carmelize the burgers so thy are cooked in their own greasy goodness. They taste great. The french fries are okay, i never finish mine. I personally ask them to hold the relish. I am not a fan of it anywhere. Strangely there is relish and pickles. You can add just about anything... egg, bacon, guac.... take a minutes and see what strikes your fancy. Overall: its a great place to stop for lunch or a quick bite. If I wanted to have a great burger or take someone somewhere this isnt where I'd be. Its tastier than fast food and a decent sit down. Much faster than a sit down restaurant. Came out of the movie theater and was surprised to see that Sizzlers still exist and ended up giggling our way across the parking lot to this burger joint. So glad we did!! The menu is fairly simple with a variety of "accessories" to your burger. You can get the typical combo and have a choice between the fat or skinny fries. The fat fries are like steak fries, but I prefer the skinny! While we were waiting for our order, we saw two guys eating and they both looked like they were in burger heaven. We knew we were gonna be in for a treat! This place is not for the calorie-counter!! The burgers are soaked with grease and goodness. The burgers are thick and juicy. You can't enjoy it without the fries and a large soda! Ladies, forget the diet for a day, it's worth it. For all you midwesterners, you'll like this place. I still don't get why all the Californians love In-and-Out so much but I DO know us, midwestern folks like a meaty burger to get us through those cold winters!!! Fatburger fits the bill!! read more

Yelp is proof that I'm an awesome critic. After I ate my meal here, I told my homie that, "I'm giving this place 3 stars on Yelp." I checked the Yelp page for this restaurant and it got 3 stars. hehe Anyways, I've passed by this Fatburger for so many years, since I was in high school, and I finally got to try it. Now, here are the reasons I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars. 1. Very pricey. The hamburger was incredibly delicious but the price was a bit too high. 2. The fries were very bland and it was so hot that it could burn your tongue. One of the joys of eating at a burger joint is the fries and it actually felt like torture eating the fries here. 3. They have televisions here but they have no sound. Also, it didn't have close captions so you can't read what they're saying. Basically, the TV here was pointless. I try to eat healthy so I love that Fatburger has veggie burgers!! Not many places serve them (although more and more places are catching on). They also have a plethora of toppings available so you can customize your burger. They even have relish and whole wheat buns. Yumm. I have not tried their fries because I always get a side salad with my burger. Their side salad is amazing because it comes with chopped tomatoes and crumbled bacon. Heaven. They even have good dressing. This location sucks if it's busy because the movie theater and shopping make this Esco teen hipster heaven. Usually I try to keep my meals light.... tonight though I couldn't. Sometimes you just want a gigantic hamburger.... tonight was that night. I've always wanted to try Fatburger out since driving by their PB location and from the reference in the first Fast and the Furious movie.... lame I know. This one is pretty close by and not too hard to reach, but then again I don't really know the Escondido area too well compared to San Marcos. I ordered the 'Kingburger', a half pound burger with everything.... including egg... yes egg.... with the combo.... the 'fat' fries and a drink. It came out to $12.65 or so, a little steep, but.... It took maybe 5 minutes to get it. Not bad, especially since they cook it right there; no heat lamps or anything of the sort, so it's fresh. Oh and it's big..... and good. The bun is gigantic and yet, the meat is still bigger yet. This beast had lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, chopped onions and relish, plus the egg. The meat tasted good and it wasn't greasy, though it was a loose patty, but not too bad. If you're starving, this is the ticket. The fries were good too, big slices... well potato wedges really, but it's a big portion of them. I recommend having the egg on it, it's really delicious and kind of unusual, but it does add to a really good burger. My only complaints were that the trash cans were full... so it made throwing the wrappers and napkins away kind of a pain and only 1 tv was on (there are 3) and they could sweep the floors more, but it was nothing too objectionable, just the random straw wrapper and such. The staff is nice but the place isn't super clean. Yeah they're patty is different like they just smashed the meat together before grilling it. And they put relish, mayo, and mustard in the burger. The fries aren't anything different or amazing. The portions are a little bigger than in-n-out but not as tall and filled-up as the pictures they have up on the menus. I have been to a few Fatburgers before in the LA area and even Vegas, but living in San Diego county, I almost forgot about this beloved burger joint. I went to this location in San Marcos right when I heard it existed, and boy, was it great. The burger itself it the closest to perfection a fast food place can get, in my opinion. The meat itself is tasty, crispy, and cooked just the right amount. I love the distinct flavor that Fatburgers have, mostly attributed to the flavorful seasoning in their meat. Comparing the meat to other joints, like Five-Guys or In-n-out, Fatburger blows them out of the water. This meat is legit. Topped with cheddar cheese, lettuce, and that delicious relish, this burger is just awesome. The fries are also great. For a comparison, they are similar to McDonald fries, thin and salty and overall, just great. I can't get enough of them. The look of the place is also nice, giving a nice oldies vibe, with nice music that never gets obtrusive. Overall, Fatburger is probably the best burger chain that has made its way into San Diego county. Other places should really take note from Fatburger, they have been overall successful for a reason. They are a new name to San Diego County, but I wish they were as widespread as In-n-out or Five Guys. read more

Horrible. My family and I went as my grandparents had a giftcard. We all ordered and then are told that giftcard's are not accepted there. My aunt paid $17 for a 'baby burger', a fatburger, fries, and a drink. The burgers were okay, but I could find better at a fast-food place. The service was awful. Never coming back. This is our 2nd time coming to this location in a month. The only reason we came is because we had punch cards for a free burger. They hassled us over what location they came from and said they would only take certain cards because this location doesn't participate blah blah blah blah blah. We did end up getting 2 free burgers (one per visit), but now that we have done that and can't use any of the other cards we've accumulated, we will never come here again. The customer service was terrible. The food was mediocre, and the cashier and the manager couldn't have been less interested in helping us. I asked the cashier to speak up because she was practically whispering, and she didn't even acknowledge me. I had to lean halfway over the counter just to hear what the h*** she was saying. I should have read the reviews before I ordered. I ordered a turkey burger which looked pretty tasty on the ad and big fries. I added bacon and jalapenos. It was a delivery order. When it came and I opened up the wrapper, it did not look anything like the picture. It looked like it had been sitting for awhile, waiting for an order. Really not appetizing at all. The bacon looked like overcooked leather straps cut in half and the patty just didn't look normal. I took a bite and oh my god, it tasted and looked like sawdust!!! This is not a turkey burger!!! Don't get me wrong, going to Escondido doesn't in itself skeeve me out...I can go to North County Fair with the best of them. But this place near downtown Escon is yo, a little skeevy and a little unkempt. I don't like any food to be unkempt, and this is no exception. I absolutely love Fatburger fries & hamburgers; they never disappoint. However the Escondido location has a serious lack of customer service. Never a smile, or a welcome & rarely a thank you despite eating there weekly. People can be shy but if your in the business of customer service, a smile & a greeting goes a long way. With tonight's visit we found many tables dirty & the catsup container empty. We were one of two parties there. It's not often that the place is busy & it's sad because no one makes a killer burger like Fatburger. Educating your staff & hiring those with excellent customer service skills would keep your customers faithful to your business. Starbucks is a positive role model with their 'third place' business strategy. What's yours? read more

Went to fatburgers for first time during brunch and actually the burgers ain't bad but not as good as in-n-out in my opinion. The worse thing about it is that its crazy expensive i had a "fat deal" and it was literally a medium burger size with a medium drinks and fries for total of a little over 11$. Many places advertise "best hamburger in town". FATBURGER definitely is the BEST hamburger in Escondido and maybe the area. The beef they use is top quality and not preformed. These burgers look like they just came out of Mom's frying pan. The burgers are done to perfection and always juicy. This is a burger that doesn't need all the condiments to make it taste good. Forget the cheese, forget the ketchup...try just the burger on the toasted bun to get the taste of juicy quality beef. Fatburger is a California staple that I knew I had to try while in SoCal. The location is clean and the staff helpful! It's nice to know the food is just as well prepared.
