Small and simple spot for some good pizza. Very close to the Riverwalk and the touristy area with all the hotels, but not a tourist trap. Good pizza that was bigger than we expected, and the chef's salad was delicious as well. The inside and seating is nothing special but they were able to accommodate us and our baby. We were surprised how many families with kids were there at 9pm!! The place filled up. The waiters were patient and very friendly and down to earth. read more

In downtown SAT for some meetings and was craving some really good pizza. I was at a hotel overlooking the Riverwalk but wanted nothing to do with a tourist trap pie. I found Fathead Pizza. The reviews looked solid and the best part it was in walking distance so I could get it to the hotel hot. They have a great selection of pies and I went with the Spicy Pie. It was AWESOME. Soppresatta, Calabrian Peppers and the perfect amount of sauce. The crust ... thin with the perfect crunch. I had a beer while waiting for the pie to finish and the guys were great to talk to. This pizza was very good! It was freshly prepared and very tasty. My only complaint is I would say I wish it was well done, but I feel that is more preference than a complaint. The salad was yummy. The place is small but we went during the week and around lunch time. The cheesecake, to die for! The service was a little slow BUT there was only one person waiting tables so, not their fault. read more

Came here with co-workers during lunch and ordered a pizza to go. A small corner building and the pizza was yummy! It didn't take them long to get the pizza out either. The price is a bit higher than most places I've been to, but it was a pretty big size. read more

We played it safe with just a pepperoni pizza and it was perfect! I'm usually not a fan of pizza that folds I like a little crisp but all 4 slices I ate were good! Oh my! The pizza was super good!! Glad we found this gem across from the bus station in downtown San Antonio. Amazing food, fun atmosphere in this little downtown gem! The servers were spot on offered drinks and refills in a timely manner, within approximately 10 to 15 minutes. The pizza was fresh made and tossed NY style! I can't wait to come back, try other pizzas and their desserts! We had a quiet evening here before we went to the Tobin for a performance. It was quick and a fast walk over to the Tobin after dinner. A friend recommended this little hole in the wall downtown. It has incredible pizza. We had the mushroom and pepperoni crispy pizza. I can tell you that these ingredients are definitely fresh. The restaurant was your basic pizza joint with a front counter and pickup area with a few tables. We were the only guests (7 of us) in the restaurant at first. We ordered pizzas and a Greek salad. When I walked in, I was skeptical as I was the only patron, staff was courteous and helped select the pie for my taste with minimal changes (meat lovers). The crust, sauce and doneness we perfect blend, nothing overpowered the other. Atmosphere is cozy in the shadow of a greyhound bus depot which I must admit I didn't know still existed. Loved the small quiet vibe, let me eat have a beer in quiet, I don't need a room full of 80" flatscreens to keep me entertained. read more

Another amazing experience at Fathead Pizza! I came here before and was super impressed by the quality of food along with the warm service. I came back today with my boyfriend to see if it was as good as I remembered. It sure was. This time it was very busy, but a table opened up just was we arrived. We were greeted immediately and they cleared the open table in record time. We ordered a pepperoni and mushroom pizza, along with a Karbach Bock and an imported Italian amber lager. We only waited a short time before our pizza arrived hot and looking outstanding. Even though the dining room was busy, everyone was friendly and the staff was attentive. The warm glow of the neon sign cast a relaxed feeling in the cozy dining room. The pizza was phenomenal. Just the right amount of toppings, the sauce was expertly spread, and the flavor. My goodness this place is worth the drive from anywhere. Even the mushrooms had an outstanding taste. We finished the whole thing, no crumbs were left. When it was time to check out, the servers moved quickly to allow others to move in. Just a five star place from top to bottom. Don't miss your chance to try the best pizza in Texas. I have eaten pizza all over and had low expectations for San Antonio (frankly). My experience at Fathead was stellar. Had a simple salad and pep mushroom pie. Quick, friendly and patient service, and the pods came out of the oven very promptly. The Smartees are a nice touch. read more

Excellent service, was greeted and waited on promptly upon entry. As an East Coast gal I know good pizza when I have it, this stuff is GOOD! Small little place in downtown San Antonio. A bar/counter seating area and a few tables. I tried it because I was just looking for a single slice, and if you get there before 6 PM, they do slices. Large slice, probably a bit overpriced, but not horrendous. And the pizza was good, not great. read more

Only have 1 size of pizza. Ordered a basic pepperoni and it was swimming in grease/oil from the cheese and pepperoni. The Caesar salad isn't bad though. Pretty overpriced for a "Meh" kinda joint. Not good for large parties of 5 or more either. read more

Had dinner here & it was good! Started off with the Caesar salad & the dressing was amazing. We wanted to try more than 1 specialized pizza & luckily they were able to do half & half. Tried the margherita & meat lovers & both were so flavorful. Pizza dough was perfect. We were seated right away & we were out in less than an hour. The food came out fairly quickly (well cooked) and we saw several pizzas come out surrounding the time ours did. 10/10!!! read more

Pizza is thin with a crispy crust. They make their mozzarella fresh in house. Toppings are also fresh and tasty (if you like mushrooms on your pizza, this is a place for you). Not the best pizza I have had but really darn good. Menu is limited (basically pizza and salads). I ordered a Caprese salad to go along with my pizza and it was excellent. The place is small and seating is limited. What sets this place apart is the service. The waiter was exceptional and refilled our drinks within seconds. They made a mistake on one of our pizza orders and he made it right immediately. The waiter made it a great experience for my family. We will be back next time we are in town. read more

Service was five stars! David created a great experience: Super pleasant, had us seated immediately, and the food was out quickly. If you've lived in or been to the north east you'll recognize the walk in and optional seating ambiance. I felt right at home :) The pizza is Neapolitan and NY style combined with thinner crust and light sauce. With that being said, we will be back when that pizza craving hits, it was delicious. I recommend that you don't stray from the pizza portion of the menu. Tiramisu was also incredible. read more

They don't answer nor take orders over the phone so I chanced driving there. The menu is small, which makes ordering simple, but $24 for a cheese pizza and $5 per topping is very overpriced. I ordered a cheese pizza with half pepperoni and half sausage. The flavor was good, but the dough was not crispy, somewhat chewy, and the slices flopped without holding their own weight. The amount of topping was very light, I felt ripped off. Nothing really stood out to justify the hype or the price. Maybe it was an off day, but for me it was not worth it.

The wait does get long sometimes. We were lucky to have a party cancel in front of us, so we got to sit inside. Two bars, and the bartenders are super cool. The order was not ready when I got there but they greeted me and told me it was going to be another 5 minutes. It was something the wait! The food is always good, even after driving a hour home. While there I noticed people coming in, being greeted, getting chilled glasses, and water with their menu. The next time we need to eat in for the experience.
