I've patronized the great restaurant for about 40 years now and I've always found the food to be great. What I can't figure is why the pizza is not consistent. I ordered the Same pizza all the time and sometimes it's off the charts and other times not so good. Why? I guess it's who's making the pizza. Ambiance- getting beyond the tricky parking, found the restaurant friendly, welcoming, and clean. Liked the openness of the seating area. It was a calm, relaxing dinner experience. Our waitress was attentive and friendly, albeit very busy. Food- 1- cheese pizza... LOVED it. Usually drive 45 min away to another place for favorite pizza, but this one is such a close 2nd, that I would save myself the trip and order it again and again. 2- seafood risotto... admit I was nervous when it arrived. It didn't look like something I would like, purely based on appearance. BUT, I was wrong! It was SO GOOD. Sauce and risotto were creamy, seafood cooked just right, and there was so much of it! I don't like hot tomatoes, so moved those to the side, but I scraped that plate clean. So good. 3- fish and chips... fish- hearty portion and delicious. Only negative was that the batter was greasier than I like, but I'd still order it again! Wasn't crazy about the chips. Just meh. 4- fried Oreos.... I wanted to love these, but after my seafood risotto, the bread, and tasting the fish (which was also fried and a tad greasy), I couldn't enjoy the Oreos. I was too full. We stopped by Fay's this afternoon for a late lunch. It's been a long time since we dined almost weekly at the old Fay's in the north end, so almost everything was new for us... but not quite. In the old days, we each ordered a garden salad with peppercorn parmesan dressing, and then we split an onion and mushroom pizza. And that's almost what G (god bless her) ordered: garden salad with peppercorn parmesan dressing and a pizza with feta and spinach. Both were as great as ever, G said. I agreed about the pizza, for sure! Thin crisp crust, delicious red sauce, plenty of spinach and feta. I began with a cup of chowder, and I was impressed! Not too thick or thin, potatoes cut in perfect 1/4" cubes, plenty of clams. For my meal, I ordered fish tacos (I order fish tacos EVERYWHERE, ALWAYS). Only two in an order but OMG! They are HUGE and HUGELY delicious, so much fish I could have taken home pocketfuls. They're served with sweet potato fries. By the time I finished one (see attached pic), I wondered if my eyes were bigger than my stomach. Nevertheless, I choked down the second (happily)and carried the fries home. Had their spicy stuffed quahog which was sweat-inducing and beautifully garnished with shaved carrots and lemon, a linguica with onions and peppers with a thick crust, and the Greek shrimp scampi which had lots of olives, garlic and shrimp. YUM! We just got sandwiches to go, I got the Venetian Sandwich, the bread is outstanding, fresh grilled chicken, fresh veggies - hit the spot! I had the cole slaw, also super fresh w a very light dressing, VERY GOOD. and there is a good selection of sides for the sandwiches. I had Fay's at a friends for take out and it was great but this time I dined in. I think I overheard a server say they were short cooks but you wouldn't know it. The service was quick and the staff was hustling. I had clam chowder which was full of clams and potatoes and I have to say was one of the best I've ever had. The stuffed quahog was also full of clams and very flavorful. I have an antipasto salad for an entree and it had a good variety for a salad. The food is always great, just don't expect to get all of your meal, unless you are dining in. For some reason I got short changed on my meal again. I ordered Spanish tips over chips, and got tips with no chips, it's like getting chicken palm without the pasta. There seems to be a disconnect or lack of quality control with take out orders, not only in what was ordered, but who gets what food ordered. Vegan review: I have been to Fay's twice in the past two weeks. Once for my grandmother's 89th birthday and once with my friend's family. Both times I was underwhelmed. I was served the same pasta both times. It looked delicious but it tasted rather bland. (Gluten free pasta is never great in my opinion.) The second time, our waitress wasn't great, she seemed kind of put off by my questions. Like I was causing her too much trouble by asking. When I asked about the Yelp coupon that popped up when I checked in, the waitress said, "that isn't a coupon we honor...". WHAT!?! It's in the app for your restaurant. Give me a break. The first time our waitresses were great. Overall, a bland experience, given that some amazing restaurants are popping up in Dartmouth and NB, you'd really think that Fay's would be trying to keep up. Well, we don't go there often and in the few times we've eaten there it's been "OK", but not so much tonight with our take-out. I got a BBQ chicken wrap w/ fries and hubby got the fish taco w/ sweet potato fries ... we ordered a side order of cole slaw, cause hubby LOVES cole slaw, and do you want to know what he thought of his cole slaw??? Hmm ... he'd like to know too cause HE DIDN'T GET IT. So we ordered it and paid for it, but didn't receive it. Didn't know till we got home, of course. And when we opened his container of food we actually wasn't sure what it was. Come to find out you have to put the meal together yourself, it's all apart. So needless to say, if we ever do get take-out from there again I'll be ripping the bag open in the place 1st to make sure we actually get everything we ordered. I know it's only cole slaw, but when you purposely order something cause you actually wanted it and get home ready to eat it and you see your food and it's basically a DIY kit and you're missing something you wanted ... it's disappointing. I was a fan of Knotty Pines Pizza. I grew up getting their pizza on the weekends and very much enjoyed it. Fay's Restaurant does NOT carry that tradition at all. In fact there Pizza has become limp and greasy. Also, their tomato sauce is more bland now than what it was back in the day. But, that's not why I am about to write this scathing review. I have been to Fay's a fair amount since it has been open. At one point my wife and I would go there multiple times a week. She loved their Lobster Roll and I liked their Buffalo Chicken wrap so that was our little meeting spot for lunch. Fay's stopped doing lunch and my wife and I had to find another go/to spot. Which we did and all is well with the world. However, all of my friends have been telling me that Fay's has gone downhill in the last year and I personally hadn't noticed until my latest (and last) trip to Fay's restaurant. My wife actually chose to go to Fay's for her birthday dinner. She loves their bread (which is still awesome regardless) and their Lobster Roll. It was about 8PM when we got there (They close at 9PM) and the place was pretty much dead with the exception of another couple who sat two seats behind us (who also sent something back into the kitchen that night). I got the Chicken Parm and my wife got their Lobster Roll (which she has gotten many times in the past). My Chicken Parm was a little bland and with a pool of watery tomato water at the bottom from the pasta not being drained or sauted properly (an amateur chef mistake but a little salt and pepper and it took care of that). My wife's Lobster roll however tasted like mustard... and when I say it tasted like mustard I do not mean a "hint" of mustard. It tasted like lobster dipped in mustard. It completely drown out any other flavors in the salad. Now, this could very well have happened if we had the bottom of the batch and there was a pool of pickle juice or something at the bottom. We tried to find our waitress to get her attention. My wife didn't even touch the bun she had one small fork of the salad and asked me to taste it and when I did I knew she had to send this back. We couldn't find our waitress anywhere. Keep in mind now the place is empty. After a short while we saw our waitress in the back and my wife brought her plate up to the kitchen. The waitress then argued that there is no mustard anywhere in their lobster salad. My wife (who is a very good chef) asked if there is mustard seed or maybe pickle juice (which often contains mustard seed). Needless to say after a short argument (which... a restaurant should NEVER argue with the customer on something like this) she said "I am the manager here so just pick something else". My wife then chooses the Chicken Marsala, After about 10 minutes (which we completely understood) and me being completely done with my meal. My wife's Chicken Marsala comes out. She tastes it and looks at me and asks me to try it. The chicken is cooked all the way but the Chicken is breaded and was not fried properly before hand... resulting in a paste like substance around the chicken and a gummy residue in the sauce. I believe because they were so close to closing at this point the chef didn't bother heating up the saute pan and FRYING the chicken before hand. He just threw in the sauce and boiled the chicken in it. So now, we have to find our waitress again. She is cleaning the floors in the bar side so we wait to get her attention. She is CLEARLY not happy that we are calling her over again. When she comes over we explain everything and she grabs the plate and takes it in the back. Five minutes later she comes back with the Chicken Marsala wrapped up and says "We won't charge you for the lobster roll but you have to pay for the Chicken Marsala" By this point I just want to get out of there and do not feel like arguing about it. So I pay for the dish (it was a $10 special). We were made to feel like a burden for going to this restaurant. I realize that everyone wanted to go home. But, a customer is a customer and we did NOT deserve to be treated that way. Later that night I wrote Fay's on facebook a very detailed letter to let the owners know our situation. I was not looking for anything free or anything foolish like that. All I was looking for was a REAL reply saying that they read and observed my critique. I received a VERY robotic automated response that showed that they didn't even bother reading my message and that they could care less about my dissatisfaction. To all small businesses this is NOT how to treat your customers. I understand that everyone has bad nights in the kitchen. But, how you treat your customers is something that goes a long way to building a loyal clientele. Fay's has lost a customer in me... and hopefully you will all think twice before going to a place who treats their customers like garbage. I expect that from a big chain restaurant. I went here to celebrate my 22nd birthday from Boston MA And I wouldn't regret my choice for the world. The waitress Olivia had to be the best by far, welcoming and attentive as well as entertaining. I would come back just because of how welcomed we were. We are really treated like family The Portuguese steak was so tender that all I needed was a butter knife. The fish tacos were the best that I've had. Compared to legal seafoods this place has the win. With high quality food for a great place I will certainly come back and I look forward to trying the entire menu. Only downfall was that my phone died so I couldn't take a picture. Four generations of our family have enjoyed Fay's over the years. It's solid Italian with typical fish and chips-ish stuff on the menu as well. The parking lot is a bit ridiculous, even at 5pm. The waitstaff is friendly and extremely tolerate of toddlers with meatballs (we should have just hosed her off afterward). Serving sizes are generous. Lots of Red Sox hats in the dining room. (Go Sox.) We originally thought we'd come here for a date night while at the beach. It doesn't really have that vibe, but it's good for families or groups. read more

She said she wasn't sure if all the veal had been breaded but she would check. He told her he could make the picatta If I had known he would use breaded veal, I would have ordered something else. I used to frequent Fay's a lot, but haven't been in the area lately. I finally got a chance to stop in the other night. The menu has changed quite a bit - and in my opinion, the older menu had better options. I ordered a veggie burger. It did not come on a bun, which I thought was strange. It was burnt on the outside and mushy in the inside. My mother had the lobster roll, which she found small. My Aunt had the Greek pasta, which she said was good. Excellent! The bread is fresh & delicious and comes with traditional oil & garlic dip. We enjoyed it to the point of having seconds. Everything is fresh and locally sourced. I had the pizza and my husband had the Pasta Margherita. The portion sizes were great, everything was fresh, and the service was great! We both very much enjoyed our meals. I am a Sicilian American girl and I eat my pizza a certain way. Aside from thick crust (which no one around here does), I like a lot of sauce and very light cheese. Most places don't get this order correct. Fay's nailed it the first time & it was really appreciated. The pizza also had a great crust that wasn't too thin at all. My husband's Pasta Magherita had cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, fresh basil, fresh scallion, & a scampi sauce. It was all very fresh and extremely yummy. After our entrees, we opted for dessert from the specials menu. We each ordered Bailey's Cheesecake. Oh, my God! If & when you have the opportunity to have this dessert, HAVE IT! we ordered take out tonight... mine was gluten free pasta Margahrita... although I appreciate the GF option, if there is an additional charge of $2.00 for GF please cook the pasta properly... the pasta was over cooked resulting in small mushy broken pieces ... the dish was advertised as having a garlic sauce, grape tomatoes, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella and parmesan... sounds good, right? the sauce was an overly oily tasteless base dripping off each fork full, way way way too much garlic that overpowered the entire dish... the picture online showed round individual fresh mozzarella balls... the reality was a huge glob of mozzarella melted on top gluing about half of the pasta pieces together... it was hard to tell if it was fresh or a slice of deli mozzarell... I couldn't taste any Parmesan but it could have been over powered by the garlic... and there was almost nonexistent basil... there was however an abundance of grape tomatoes... for $18 it was not even worth the one star I gave it... good heavens! read more

It's been awhile since I've been to Fay's Too. I moved away from the area, but I try to go each time I visit. Their thin crust pizza remains my favorite in the greater New Bedford area. In fact, I often lament that no one on the West Coast offers Clam Casino pizza. I would be happy if someone's version was at least half as good as Fay's. For those straying from pizza, they make traditional pasta dishes and all your other Italian favorites plus dessert. Fay's is a great place to bring your family or friends. Fay's is used to seating groups. Just be sure to get there early. The place is very popular and fills up quickly, so a line often forms on the weekend. If you don't want to battle the line or wait or just prefer to stay in, they also offer take-out. read more

I was a huge fan of the beloved Fay's Knotty Pine so I of course I wanted to be a fan of this second incarnation. The pizza is similar, but way to often very soggy with toppings dropping off. The entrees are just OK, but the portions are pretty good. The high point of all of my attempts to enjoy this place is the bufflao potato skins they sometimes have on special. Consistently lacking service and subpar eats have sadly doomed this place. read more

Recently visited Faye's after not visiting in awhile and noticed immediately that there were new menus and a few new improvements to the restaurant/parking lot. Someone has to pay for all the new stuff, and that someone is you! Everything on the menu is now about $2 more than it used to be. For $14 I got chicken, broccoli and penne, and it was an extra $5 to add a little house salad! So now dinner for two at Faye's (without drinks) is going to run you over $40. Faye's used to be a good meal at a good price, but now its just a decent meal at a price that just isn't justified by the restaurant or the food. read more

BUYERS BEWARE! me and my girlfriend went to fay's in south dartmouth on saturday for lunch, ordered $22.50 worth of lunch, check my bank statement today, there's that charge PLUS a $45.25 charge that definitely wasn't mine. so i call the manager, and she tells me that the guy waiting on us charged my card for another check, but voided it when he realized it wasn't correct. AND THEN PROCEEDED NOT TO TELL ME ABOUT IT. so, if i overdrafted as a result of this, i would have overdrafted and gotten fees and had to pay that! when explaining this to the manager and how that was a really bad thing for my waiter to do, she told me that she just had a scam where someone in the restuarant was conterfeiting their paychecks. she THEN told me that 'well i talked to the police, and they say the worst thing you can do is pay with your debit card'. i said, 'so this is MY FAULT? REALLY?'. she said no, and was totally dismissive and was trying to get me off the phone. i told her she should really talk to the guy who mistakenly charged my card and at the LEAST, tell him he's required to alert customers if they make a mistake like that. she just said she was sorry about the trouble, and literally said goodbye and hung up. We will never ever set foot in this restaurant ever again. food was average. good buffalo tenders, pizza was so greasy it literally set my toaster oven on fire while reheating the leftovers. read more
