They are a fun crew who slings out some good eats. I noticed every time someone ordered food, the cashier hit a gong which I found to be funny and entertaining. I was craving a hot dog so we decided to try this place out since we had never been. There's some seating on the inside, but they also have a little patio area with picnic tables outside. The food is made to order so expect a little bit of a wait. After you place your order they will call your name over the microphone when it's ready. Char cheddar dog - perfect grilled char flavor, and comes with all the Chicago dog toppings. I don't like relish so I got mine without it. This was a really satisfying hot dog. The cheddar was also good on it, but it has a strong sharp cheddar flavor, so keep that in mind if you don't want it to overpower the taste of a true Chicago dog. Fries were pretty good too. The burgers don't come with fries, but if one person gets a hot dog which comes with the fries, I suggest just sharing those fries. Otherwise, if you order a side of fries (1 lb) it is way too much for one person to finish. The food was pretty pricey in my opinion. For a char dog & fries, double cheeseburger, an order of fries, and 2 drinks it was $30. Will be back for more though. read more

I became familiar with Fatso's by watching a feature on one of the shows on Food Network. Located in Lincoln Park it is a small dive with limited parking and what appears to be no restroom inside of the building but somewhere outside. A lot of locals visit this place. A lot of moving parts when you walk in so if you don't know what you want or what's going on, grab a menu and step to the side until you're ready to place your order. I went with the Maxwell Street polish and fries combo and it was delish. My only gripe were the "shorty" fries that came with the order. None of my fries were longer than my pinky finger and it made it seem like I had a basket of leftover runt fries. Limited seating inside and many people get their order to go. Orders did't seem to take that long to be prepared and I did't hear any complaints either. There is an ATM on the premises if you're low on cash. They do accept cards but their POS register is too old for contactless pay methods. I would recommend and definitely visit again when in the area. Make sure you get your picture on the side of the building with the mural painted wings to commemorate your visit. read more

So this would honestly be a 3.5 star review for me NOT bc anything was bad but more because I've had better on all of the things we tried. Was actually really looking forward to eating here. This is a small little place with a handful of parking spots right behind it which is nice. Depending on when you order, the wait can definitely be awhile but atleast you know that your food is fresh! The burger was definitely yummy and messy...and as I said before - nothing bad just had better. The char dog was my least favorite as the bread got soggy way too fast and had too many fixins (lesson learned for next time). The fries with the dog were delish though. The food is great but the service has become horrible. I've been going here for over 10 years and I'm tired of how rude whoever is manning the register is - anytime of day. They look like they want to kill you for even being there. Today, In the middle of an order, the dude just walked away while I was talking - no excuse me, no sorry I'll be right back. He straight asked for my order and then walked away in to the back to do...something...for a full couple minutes. Came back and stared back and me like he was mad I even wanted to order something. I had to repeat my order twice because he wasn't listening AFTER he came back. So really, 3 times. This was after I stood there for a full 5 minutes without him acknowledging me after the customer before I completed their order. ....and then they forgot to make them. Literally staring at me "are you waiting for an order?" WTF And I want to be clear - the woman that often works the register is no better. This used to be a very inviting neighborhood place and now it's trash service. I stoped tipping them after a decade - your attitude isn't necessary. You earn a tip you don't just get one and I'm done floating you a few bucks. If the grill is reading this, yell at the register, they are screwing you over. My boyfriend and I both got the Double Fatsos W/ Cheese. The portion sizes do not disappoint and I had trouble finishing my meal. We also got an order of fried pickle chips and the sauce it came with was definitely the highlight. I gave 4/5 because our orders went in at the same time, but my burger was cooked well done well done and my boyfriend's was cooked medium. After a rough work week I was in the mood for a filling and loaded burger and I was not disappointed! I decided it was time I checked out Fatso's Last Stand, a famous Chicago burger place right off of Oakley Ave. a short bike ride for me as I'm near the west loop. Decided to go with the Ooey Gooey because I'm a fan of the big loaded burgers and let me tell you, this one was DRIPPING. Along with the burger I got fresh cut fries which were nice and crispy and a Reese's shake. Burger was amazing! I asked for well done and they gave me a well done and properly charred patty. I could barely finish it and it was amazing. My only grimace is the sauce that was added was extremely cheesy and salty and not my personal taste. Not for everybody I guess. This is a perfect late night spot but is a belly ache waiting to happen if you are sober. Their burgers are everything good that is greasy and the runny egg was perfectly cooked and the perfect topping. The smell from the outside of this place is enamoring. I've been going to this place for years and I usually get a hot dog, or the buffalo shrimp. I'm not a fan of diner style smashburgers, so I actually never tried their burger. I was pleasantly surprised when I decided to take on chance on the ooey gooey burger. It was hand formed (the reason I don't order smashburgers is because they are usually frozen and precooked) and medium rare in the middle. I had no idea that Fatso's was making their own burgers. I called in an order over the phone and asked for an italian beef, french fries, and a drink. When I arrived, they charged me for the beef, fries, and drink all separately, which totaled around $24, even though they have a combo deal containing a beef, fries, and a drink for around $16. When I asked the cashier about this, she told me "well you didn't specifically say you wanted the combo". I've eaten here numerous times before and the fries were the same size as the they would have been in the combo, so I literally got the exact order that I would have gotten if they had given me the combo. The Double Fatso is a force to be reckoned with. The two beef patties were packed with flavor and cooked perfectly with just a hint of pink. The cheese oozing from the sides of the burger made the sandwich even more delectable and savory. The Fatso's sauce was typical "special" burger sauce, but the tangy flavor further elevated the burger. The bun was soft yet sturdy enough to hold everything together. It was a messy sandwich, but oh so worth it. The fries weren't as jaw dropping, but it was a tall order to compete with that burger. They were crispy and lightly salted, just like I like them. My Yelp friends know how much I love Red Hot Ranch for a short order burger. They too serve hot dogs, shrimp and burgers. Fatso's takes the crown with hot dogs and shrimp. ..even the Veggie Dog is delicious! The burgers are solid, but I prefer RHR's single with extra cheese. Fatso's now accepts all major credit cards. I have never eaten fries like these, not only were they cold but they were a strange hard texture. Some were dark/burnt, and some were undercooked, indicating the batches were mixed and were definitely not fresh. What happened to the fatso fries that I love so much? I wonder! Additionally we ordered a quarter pound of shrimp and received a total of six shrimp for seven dollars. Six shrimp left me feeling hungry!! I was on the quest to find an epic Chicago meatless hot dog. I heard they existed. You see, it is possible to match everything you need in a hot dog in a veggie dog - the taut outer layer crunch, the juicy, salty inside wrapped in the perfect bun and topped with great additions. Thus far, the only place I have found a hot dog that meets those needs, is in the Beyond Meat Sausage (and Fatso's does sell a Beyond Burger!). However, the veg dog here taste more like tater tots rolled up in a hot dog shape and topped with the appropriate hot dog toppings (and I did mine with drizzled cheese). Which, is not by any means terrible, but it will not win my "world's best Chicago veg dog" accolades. I need the hot dog juice and crunch. I cannot advocate for their standard hot-dogs whatsoever, but they were awfully popular and I can only assume, wonderful.
