Pan-Fried Turnip Cake: I loved the crisp outside, and it was soft on the inside. It did not feel too heavy and better than other places I've tried. Green Beans: These were slightly oily, but the portion size was generous for the price. Preserved Egg & Pork Congee: The congee was okay, but it was comforting and smooth and still had a good flavor.

This summer they are running a special (10% off your bill, plus additional 5% if paid in cash). For a Saturday evening, they did not have many diners, two other larger groups, a couple smaller tables of patrons and a couple few takeout orders. The main reason for coming here is for their Dim Sum items, but some items are not available after 2pm. They have a pretty extensive menu for non-dim sum items. Most of their food is pretty good including the dim sum items. Portion size is large, so there is usually leftovers to take home. Today, the service is lacking quite a bit. Had to wave down the server many times during our meal, to order, ask a couple times for water and missing napkins, water refill, didn't check if we needed more hot tea, boxes for left overs, getting the bill, etc. Another ding for them is that we were given and billed for 2 items (chicken buns and steamed long beans) that we Did Not Order. I didn't not complain about it because we were fine eating the extra food, but that was annoying! Overall dining experience was 3/5 stars. Food was a solid 4/5 stars. Service was 2.5/5 stars. There are so many Chinese food options now in Davis. Not sure what's up with the service, but they really need to step that up if they expect customers to keep coming back.

I will say the group of three eight pretty much everything except maybe one spare rib. We almost had to roll ourselves out of there but it was so worth it and I would highly recommend checking this place out but word of caution do not go if you are hungry because again this place is popular and you might have to wait so make sure you have a good amount of time and that you're allowing yourself to really enjoy the space and try out all the deliciousness.

Today was a day spent exploring Davis to see the California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Arts (CCACA). What a great Conference. We come each year for this Conference and explore Davis every time we are here. After exploring the first building of the show it was coming on time to eat. We looked around the current shopping center and my husband didn't see anything he was craving. He said we'll go more into town and look for a noodle place. He said he remembered one from our last visit, down one of the alleys. Walking up the street we saw a couple of advertisements. A sandwich board was on the sidewalk for Davis Noodle CIty, the exact place we were looking for. The little Noodle Shop in the alley. We weaved through the other businesses, past the dumpling restaurant, past the outdoor seating and to the front door of the Davis Noodle City Restaurant. The out door seating looked really welcoming, but it was chilly out so we opted for eating inside with the other table that was occupied. There were 3 parties eating outside when we arrived. When we walked inside we were greeted and told to take any table. We choose a table in the corner. The menus were under the glass table top, keeping it clean and easy to read. Each place setting had its own copy of the menu. After looking at the menu, remembering what was offered on the sandwich board in front, and cross referencing it with Yelp Reviews we started ordering. We opted for the Five Spice Beef Noodles, and I asked if that was a good option and she said it was their top seller. The Yelp Reviews were only ok for that dish, but I took our chances. The second dish we ordered was the Dan Dan Noodles She tried to upscale us to the one with vegetables, but that dish was a cold dish so we when for the standard Dan Dan Noodles. Both dishes came out quickly. The Dan Dan noodles were not spicy as I anticipated, which was good, I wasn't really looking for spicy. I liked the flavor and realized that if you mixed it up there is a sauce on the bottom that is really tasty. Dan Dan Noodles ($8.25 a steal) is a solid dish and I highly reccomend it. It's a great bowlful of noodles. If you are hopping for other ingredients you are out of luck, it's 100% noodles with a sprinkling of peanuts on top and a sauce on the bottom. The Five Spice Beef Noodle Soup ($12.75)was as described in the reviews. It comes with American Broccoli and carrots. The beef is so good it melts in your mouth. The broth is minimal and lacked flavor. I'd think that it's advertised as Five Spice that it would have more flavor. I don't reccomend it if you are looking for a strong flavor. If you are looking for great meat, that melts in your mouth, but is also a little fatty then you have the perfect dish. Both dishes came with fresh noodles, none of those dried and rehydrated noodles that some places serve. The noodles on both dishes were different and pleasant. I highly reccomend their fresh noodles. Customer service was good. She came to check up on us and was pleasant. Parking is street parking. And they have a bathroom on site that is clean and well stocked.

The customer service experience was lacking a little. Despite the cashier being generally kind, she wore headphones and was on her phone off and on throughout my time there. I had to awkwardly wait at the register, trying to get her attention multiple times before she acknowledged me. Although I did like the aesthetic of the restaurant with the music videos, it also made it even more challenging for her to hear me. I found it unprofessional and impolite to be on the phone while attending to customers. As for the food, unfortunately, the Seafood Combo #1 was a disappointment - the "sauce" tasted like boiled seawater. It also didn't coat all of the plain and unseasoned food. We were so dissatisfied that we had to request a refund and leave. I do appreciate the cashier offering us something else on the menu, but we declined and preferred the refund. On a positive note, the Thai Tea Slush and Strawberry Slush on the menu were enjoyable, and I recommend trying those. read more

Have been here multiple times, and every time is an amazing experience all around. Staff was attentive and very nice. The atmosphere is cozy with an awesome vibe! I recommend to check their happy hour menu. We got their $20 BEER TOWER! It comes with one free fried item and it pairs great with their Sapporo beer. My friend and I wanted to try this place because it was new. We both got the $20 Combo + Cajun style and it ended up being pretty good! Servers were attentive and gave good customer service. Great spicy food and friendly staff. Food (10/10) - The food here is AMAZING! Perfect balance of spice to flavor and every single bite is electric. The sichuan numbing pepper in the Chongqing soup was DELICIOUS. Mix it with some of the white rice and you have a dish all by iteself. The chicken itself had a nice chew and was very fragrant. Loved the texture and flaovr of the vermicelli; nice bounce to the noodles while soaking in all the spicy soup. My one complaint would be that they have soft bones (sign of long boiling time) so be careful of that! Also got the spicy stir-fried pork kidney... don't diss it 'til you try it. Super good, with that nice bit of chew. Take a bite of pepper, kidney, and white rice and BOOM! Perfect bite. **Recommendation: Rice is a key component for the dishes here. Without rice, everything will be too spicy, too savory, and overall too overwhelming. The rice is the thing that helps tie everything together (as it frequently is) Service (8/10) - Good service; nothing notable. Nice people and I think most of them speak Mandarin. Service and seating was also fast. Order of things to come out of the kitchen was a bit strange: soup for the chicken, rice, stir-fry, chicken. Honestly, not that big of a problem but just decided to comment. Price (8/10) - The price here is a bit on the pricier side; $54 for 2 but there were some leftovers (had to make my own rice though). Some of the dishes are more worth than others. The Chonqing chicken was $25 but you got a large bowl of chicken with soup and vermicelli. On the other hand, the stir-fry for $20 was notably padded with vegetables and I would say a majority of the dish was not the kidney. At the very least, the taste of the food compensates. However, this place is likely not a college go-to. Overall, great restaurant that I will be coming back to again (maybe with my parents LOL) or at the very least, would come with a large group as it is more fitting for family style. The Stir-Fried Pork Intestine was easily the highlight for me. It had that classic Sichuan numbing spice and a ton of flavor without being overly oily. The intestine was super crispy, which gave it a really satisfying texture. I'd 100% order this again. I was also really impressed by the Stir-Fried Pork Belly with Cauliflower, especially the cauliflower. It soaked up all the flavor while still keeping its texture instead of getting soft or soggy. The Lamb Spine was delicious too. The radish soaked up all the broth and basically turned into little flavor bombs. The only downside is that the lamb spine can be a little difficult to eat. If you want something easy and straightforward, I'd probably skip it--but if you don't mind working for your food, it's definitely fun and worth trying. Overall, everything was flavorful and well-portioned. We had four people and still ended up with plenty of leftovers. Some dishes, especially the Chow Mein, were a little oily, but nothing too unexpected for this style of food. Our total came out to around $125 for four people, which felt pretty reasonable considering how much food we ordered and how much we had left over. Service was okay. The staff were knowledgeable and able to answer our questions, but they weren't particularly attentive. We were the first table there and practically the only people dining in at the time, although they may have been handling online orders. On the plus side, we were seated immediately and our food came out really quickly. The restaurant itself has a casual, family-friendly atmosphere that works really well for groups. I could see myself coming here for dinner with friends just as easily as with family. It was also very clean, had calming music, some cool artwork on the walls, and surprisingly clean restrooms. We came around 5:30 PM and didn't need a reservation. Parking is the usual Downtown Davis situation, but if you're already parked somewhere downtown, it should be within about a 10-minute walk. Overall, this is a pretty cool spot in Davis. The portions are generous, the food is flavorful, and that crispy pork intestine alone would bring me back. I'd definitely come here again with friends.

We walked in and weren't sure if we sat ourselves or not. A server came out and showed us to a table with menus after a minute. It did take a little while for her to come back and take our order. We each ordered an XL bowl of phở ($18). I got the flank steak (tái) and she got the vegetarian (chay). The phở was delicious! The ratio of meat to noodles was appropriate. The add-ins (beansprouts, basil, lime and jalapeño slices) were the perfect amount for 2 bowls. We didn't eat the jalapeños, but we didn't leave anything else on the plate. I hate wasting food. I read that the service here is what is lacking. Our server came by twice to check on us, but didn't refill our glasses until I asked. She was the only one working the floor while we were there. It was busy enough that the noise level was high at times and then it lulled to just us talking. She didn't clear away our bowls and wasn't super attentive, but we didn't mind because we were catching up. As we were getting ready to leave, another worker came in, but the no one came out in the front for at least 10 minutes. One couple came in, sat down, looked at a menu and then left because no one even acknowledged them. Overall for us, we had a great experience. Food was yummy. Service was good for us since we didn't need much. Ambiance was elegant, but not. I'll be back for another bowl of phở.

You would need to park in front of the quest lab and continue to walk around the corner toward the street side where you will stumble across their sign outside. Price point for this day and age with a average pho bowl of $14 isn't bad considering they have a decent size and loads of meat! You can even add extra noodles for $1! Broth was flavorful. It's a order and take a seat type of place and they will bring out your order. All of our food came out quickly and they were nice to accommodate any extra bowls or such for the kiddies. It's not a big big place but enough to have our party of 6 just fine without any wait or anything at all which is awesome. Staff was pleasant and nice. Water was available for self serve as well. We would definitely come back when we are around the area.
