Just came here for the first time in a a few years.. the food is horrible. The donuts aren't even full donuts anymore they're SMALL like munchkins. Such a waste of money.

Love this place, right off of the main drag super juicy chicken and great coffee. Open early and closes late, great food for a night out drinking

Cookies and Cream donut -- unreal.

I love Federal Donuts! This location is convenient and honestly...delicious. Also, there is a pretty clean bathroom that customers can use. I enjoy the price range and the cookies and cream donut paired with a latte are the perfect little treats for a snack and a re-charge for a chilly winter walk down South Street. The staff is generally friendly and it's such a classic Philly staple. Make sure to visit!

We made a dessert platter at home. The doughnuts were the tres leches , original and a jam one - all delicious

I've had a love-hate relationship with Federal Donuts over the years. Wait. Hate is a strong word. I've never hated them. Maybe disappointed. The first time I visited their original location over 10 years ago I thought their chicken was dry and overrated. I didn't get the hype. Now I am far more forgiving. My son wanted chicken tenders and fries today and we were in the area. So this wound up being the call. I got the wings. And I'll say this. They kind of remind me of the wing dings that you get at local pizza joints. But I will say these are definitely higher quality. Good crunch to the outside and they pair well with the barbecue sauce. I tasted a chicken finger and it was the same thing. They're really good. I'm not sure they're best in the city level but maybe they don't have to be. They were just good quality and that's enough. Now I've never had the Za'Atar seasoned fries. There they won me over. They're not too overpowering with the seasoning. It's just a perfect level. There I was impressed. And the cinnamon sugar donuts... that's where they get me to "Holy s**t these are phenomenal" level. Those are best in the city level in my mind. My relationship with them has moved to love-like level.

FOOD I've been to Federal Donuts twice now, both at their South Street location. They are known for their cake donut selection and meal combos with fries, fried chicken (tenders and sandwiches), etc. I have ordered the fig mascarpone and the spiced pear a la mode donuts. Both were spiced well in the interior, and the glaze on top was reminiscent of cream cheese and was a little too sweet at times. That being said, it's a nice Philadelphia staple to go to when showing friends/family around town, and their seasonal flavors are nice to try every now and then. They usually switch up one of their specialty donuts every other week rotate new ones in accordingly. DRINKS Various drinks are available, from hot/cold coffee, cold brews, lattes, soda, bottled water, and even Vietnamese iced coffee. SERVICE The staff are kind and helpful. PARKING Paid street parking is available at a limited capacity.

Amaretto Affogato (top left corner) and the rest are Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal: I liked that they weren't too dense or sweet

The menu at Federal Donuts is simple, which isnt necessarily a bad thing; their menu consists of chicken and donuts. I've had their chicken before and I personally think you could get better fried chicken elsewhere (BBQ Chicken, Moon Flower House, MBL&Q Burger, etc.). However, I do think that their donuts are definitely worth getting, as stated in other reviews. They serve a variety of cake donuts, which includes more permanent classics flavors and a rotating selection of unique flavors, which they call their fancy donuts. I like that the cake donuts aren't too dense or too sweet. Most recently, I tried their Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Donut, which is one of their fancy donuts. I liked the additional texture of the toasted oat crumble. Also, there was the slightest addition of salt on the crumble, which I thought balanced out the donut. Would I go back? : Perhaps. Federal Donuts would probably be one of my top places to get a donut but I usually don't go out of my way to get donuts.

Federal Donuts never disappoints! Ugh I love! This location serves up coffee, crispy fried chicken, and warm (or not) donuts. My favorite donut flavors have been the warm Cinnamon Brown Sugar, Banana Pancake, and Blueberry. The icing has a lemon zing that melts in your mouth and the fluffy, moist inside is heavenly.

Cold food and Bad attitudes. On Sunday April 27th at 9:45 a.m., my mother and I came to the Federal Donuts located on 540 South street in Queens Village, Philadelphia. I've gone to different Federal Donut locations throughout the city and have always had pleasant experiences. However, the experience I had at this location was absolutely deplorable. I didn't obtain the names of the two individuals that almost begrudgingly helped us, but they were distinctly unpleasant. The young lady with hair twists was dismissive, and the young man with two tone hair color served us ice cold breakfast sandwiches and then refused to warm them up. The cheese wasn't melted and the bread was just out of the refrigerator. The establishment was not busy, so there was no need for them to rush our order. The young lady with twists said it was against store policy to warm up sandwiches once they have been served. A note of advice would be to warm the bread and cheese for the sandwich so they aren't ice cold and properly match the description given on the menu. The one positive out of this travesty of an experience was the old fashioned glazed donuts which are ALWAYS delicious! I would not recommend this location.

A quick stop by this cozy, classic cake donut shop as we bought a spiced pear a la mode donut for ~$3. The flavor was honestly there as you could taste the pear, spice, and the thick glaze on top as well. I am personally not a huge fan of the sour nodes or flavors from pears and apples, so I was not avid about this donut. I will say that the quality of their donuts is pretty good though as I noticed how dense and how clean and well-made it was. A great place to stop by if you love cake donuts!

It's a shame, well-made donut but way they tasted like it was cooked in old oil and a slight taste of fried chicken. Disappointed.

Here are some if the places I tried: Beiler's Bakery - The cookies were made fresh there and I enjoyed a slice of their red velvet cake. By George Pizza, Pasta & Cheesesteaks - Decent cheesesteaks here, but the bread was a little tough for my liking. I probably wouldn't return here as I had better cheesesteaks elsewhere. Famous 4th Street Cookie Company - This was my favorite bakery I tried. The cookies were a good size, tasty, and the service was great! Termini Brothers Bakery - Tried the pig ear as it was described as puffed pastry with cinnamon and sugar. I wouldn't recommend this at all since it was hard and crumbled easily.

Apparently, we needed a sugar rush! And we got a burst of energy, and it was quite delightful to see the energy at Reading terminal market! As soon as we walked in the door, it was pretty exciting because it was a Philly cheesesteak restaurant, and there were crowds waiting to try their food. We walked past that, and passed the Greek market to the baked goods and soda area that also had wonderful Philly T-shirts and stationary. Great service and no lines there!! I look forward to coming again!!

Recently, I found my chicken sandwich to be on the smaller side, looking almost like they accidentally used a tender instead of the usual breast (or half breast?). Today, I ordered an Early Bird breakfast sandwich (which did have a tender in it) and Hot Cocoa donut and they were really good. The smell of the sandwich permeates the air like a hot breakfast fresh off the grill. After I finished mine, I could smell the aroma of the sandwich on a freshly ordered one two seats away from me. The look and smell of the donuts makes me want not one but three, but I know that if I did that, I'd be fat as a house. The attention to detail on the little things really count and do get noticed. Take a look at the caps on the cups. Other restaurants can learn from this. Whatever caps they use on their fountain drinks... it's a phenomenal cap that won't pop off even when you squeeze the cup real hard. The branding on their cups, bags, and all around the store are sensational. Solomonov's team has done a great job on the logo. Now, I will say that there are some people who prefer the other type of donut - the fried dough donut - versus Federal Donut's cake donut. I sometimes flip back and forth between the two, but you can't dislike cake donuts. Each "Fancy" or "Classic" donut is like a little Bundt cake or cupcake. If you don't like cupcakes or Bundt cakes, you have no soul. Believe it or not, you can order a salad from Federal Donuts. There are two offered, but the stars of the show are the chicken sandwiches and the donuts. Go get them today!
