The good: The oysters - I can taste the Virginia freshness (note these were fresh water and not salt-water oysters - some people might mind). Decent menu choices, I settled on the monster "Jaws" burger with a burger patty, turkey, brisket, and ham. It was a monster, and it filled me right up, though a little more moisture would have been better; some sauce or better cheese/meat ratio to cut the dryness. But that's Kinda on me for ordering 4 kinds of meat stacked on each other. Also at our table, a boom boom shrimp sandwich, basically a spicy po'boy, and some cream of crab soup that was a bit too sweet for my taste, but my mom liked it. Lots of things to like about Federal House, and for me it starts with the beer. They will do a flight of 4 of any beers they have on tap, which I love. Great way to try lots of stuff. They rotate taps constantly, with a focus on local beers, which I really appreciate. Drink Local! They also rotate good craft beers from around the country, so a nice mix. The food is solid... mostly fresh stuff that is mostly done to a pretty high standard. It gets pretty touristy, which isn't necessarily a bad thing... but gives you an idea on the vibe. Service is solid... as a local I wish it was a little more charming.. but they get pretty busy so I get it. I love craft beers, so I will frequent this place as long as I live a few blocks away. Walked in Saturday and sat in the bar area at a table. We sat for a few before any server greeted us, but to be fair there was a Navy game going on and it was busy!! Cheryl was our server and she was great! My husband and I had the crab dip which was sooooo good and hot! Lots of flavor, crab and cheese! We had Hennessy and coke, these were also good! ( thanks for not having flat soda!!) my husband had the grilled chicken breast sandwich, which was hot, juicy, had a nice grilled flavor and crispy fries! Went here after a long day out in Annapolis. Food was very good and affordable especially compared to other restaurants we had stopped in around town. The restaurant had a welcoming feel to it and you didn't feel as if you were sitting on your neighbors lap. However the best part was the service. From our initial interaction with the front door hostess, to our wonderful server who was helpful and efficient and had a great personality and even the food runner was personable and pleasant. We stopped in here for lunch the other day and they were very accommodating to our group (3 adults, 4 kids under 4). Andre was our server and was friendly, personable, and took great care of our table. The kids were kind of loud but we got there right as they opened and tried our best to not disrupt the other diners. We were seated up in an elevated area and brought our strollers so as not to block the entrance. It's handicap friendly with a ramp but not where we were sitting hence the strollers being lugged around but we didn't want to leave them in other peoples' way. Food was good, we got a pretzel bite and cheese dip which was kind of spicy but came out quick. The kitchen kindly accommodated my friend's request (grilled chicken instead of fried chicken strips for her kid), and a shrimp cocktail with a salad. I got the steak salad which was filling and flavorful. It was a hot day so I didn't want to get something too heavy. We downed a few grapefruit crushes and finished up. They were kid friendly with crayons etc and I imagine they're used to lots of tourists during the day. At night the vibe is decidedly more a bar. Andre also split our checks which was nice. Checked out yelp and saw good reviews so we stopped in. The wait was a little long on a busy weekend, but that is to be expected and as it turns out, worth the wait. I got the Crab Dinner with the single crab cake. My husband got a chef special called a Crab Melt. My kids ordered from the kids menu. Everything was excellent! The Crab Melt had plenty of crab meat and the crab cake was made perfectly. My meal was just the right amount of food, but would reccomend ordering the 2 crab cake meal if you have a bigger appetite (like my husband). The kids mac and cheese was better than most. And for a reason.. the oysters were really good! They only have one available (Rappahannock) which I'm usually "Eh" about, but these were briny and plump and actually had a good flavor on their own. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive, and the place was fairly busy at 3pm. One of the hostesses/waitresses did seem a little snobby when we walked in, but our waiter more than made up for it. For families, they have a decent kids menu and juice boxes (always a hit!). The settings is in a very old building that has a nice industrial vibe to it. Cozy with some history, I liked it. No one came to our table for quite awhile to take our drinks orders despite that, even thought there were at least 5 workers standing around by the front door. They need to wake up and recognize that it's 2022. Why don't they provide straws upon request, not waste them in a water glass. So we ended up at Federal House because they had no wait, and half of us had been in the past. Our server greeted us immediately upon arrival. He was nice but not super friendly. Fish & Chips - Haddock filet dipped in our Brooklyn Lager batter and flash fried to a golden brown. Served with Cole slaw and fries. Crab Cake Platter - Premium lump crab cakes broiled to perfection. Served with rice pilaf and chef 's vegetable. Cuban Sandwich - Thinly sliced slow roasted pork, Black Forest ham, Swiss cheese, stone ground mustard and pickles served on traditional Cuban Bread. Dessert: Alcohol Infused Bread Pudding - Crusted pineapple, golden raisins, and Pullman white break soaked in a sweet egg custard. Basked to perfection and topped with a Jim Beam bourbon butter caramel hard sauce. Beeramisu - Ladyfingers soaked in Guinness Stout then layered with Mascarpone cheese and grated chocolate. Peanut Butter Cydwich - Chocolate brownie and vanilla bean ice cream drizzled with caramel and chocolate sauces sandwiched between two peanut butter cookies. Served with funnel cake fries and strawberry sauce. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. I really liked the crab cake but could have gone without the sides, the sides were super bland and not fresh. The calamari was good, but not the best. The dessert here though is DELICIOUS. All three were winners and really generous in portions. Prices are reasonable for the area. Everyone had raved about the cream of crab soup in the reviews, so I decided to order a bowl of that along with fried calamari. My boyfriend ordered the crab melt with fries. Everything was good, but not amazing. Being from Southern Maryland, maybe I've been a little spoiled by all the great seafood restaurants on Solomons Island, but nothing we had really stood out to me here. However, Federal House does get points for being on the Annapolis waterfront and having a good atmosphere. I though it was cool that there was live music in the entrance area by the bar, though it was a little loud. Luckily, we were seated further away enough so that it wasn't too overwhelming.
