Food always tastes great and fresh. Theres something on the menu for everyone, burgers are juicy and have great flavor, steaks are just mouthwatering, fish and shrimp is amazing too. Always crave it on Sunday but they are open Tuesday to Saturday. Really is a hidden gem! read more

I don't review too many lowbrow eateries, but the Feed Barn in Bryan, TX deserves a Yelp. I've been slumming here for an occasional lunch or "supper" (you really can't call it dinner at the Feed Barn) for over 15 years ... often with my old pal Mark W., who says that they serve a "fine little 10 oz lunch steak" (obviously Mark is a stereotypical 6'5" Texan). Well ... I'm not a Texan, and I don't eat steak. I'm here for the catfish basket. Now, I'm a North Carolinian (the land where BBQ is made from pork ... although I don't eat that either), and we from NC are catfish connoisseurs. In my vast experience consuming these tasty, whiskered creatures, I have yet to encounter a fry cook worthy of even holding the spatula of the Feed Barn's head man. Perfectly "corn breaded", the nuggets are deep fried to an artery clogging slightly crispy golden brown. No belly-meat in this basket; only top-side fillet strips ... the bottom-feeder prime-rib. Fresh, never frozen, the cats are diced daily, making for perfect moisture and firmness. But, a basket is incomplete without hush puppies and fries. Here, the Feed Barn excels again; perfectly (a little taste of onion in there) prepared pups. And, no frozen fries ... freshly sliced (large) deep fried russet potatoes ... always hot ... never soggy. Top it off with a huge Pepsi. You just can't do better ... not even at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. Being hidden in the old industrial section of south Bryan, the Feed Barn is rarely ever crowded (probably because its so damned hard to find ... its like the Bermuda Triangle over there). Great food, small price tag, and a low bubba-index make it the "best little catfish house in Texas" (or elsewhere). read more

I go here frequently but haven't written a review. I really like the Chopped Steak special they offer. This is one of those places that seem to be set on "Automatic" for customer satisfaction. The food is great as is the service. Something magical happens between the register where you place your order and the kitchen crew. After ordering, they call your number and you go to a window and pick up your order. The Chicken Fried Steak.......Delicious! The hamburgers have a really nice Charbroiled flavor that is similar to that Chopped Steak I love so much. They're not open on Mondays so you have to go to a lesser spot as a substitute. read more

However, the strips lacked flavor & the sauce that came w/ it was just plain ordinary. Fried corn nuggets: These fried gems of corns was the highlight of the meal. The crispy exterior complemented nicely w/ the sweet corn filling. Hushpuppies: The fried nuggets of bread was very plain and underwhelming. Seasoned fries: Although seasoned w/ some flavor, these wedged fries are comparable to other avg restaurants. OVERALL: Decent amount & price of food but since it is so far from campus & I'm such a lazy mofo, it probably ain't happenin' again. This place is everything that its name says it is -- a pure joy of a dining experience. It is located next to a power substation sort of in the boonies of the College Station. I ordered the chopped steak lunch special with baked potato and Texas toast. That was an exciting party in my mouth. Look out for the furniture for sale in the restaurant -- you just might eat your lunch on it. read more

Best local place in town. The steaks are excellent, the salad bar has plenty of options, and the sides are always fresh. The atmosphere is a little dark, but some of the 'relics' on the walls are interesting to look at and can pass some time while waiting on your food. One of my favorites to order is the chopped steak. It's always moist, perfectly seasoned, and is served with a garnish of caramelized onions and brown gravy to the side. Overall, a definitively good choice if you're looking for home-town cooking with a local atmosphere. read more

Went there for lunch. Was going to order the hamburger steak until I was told it was not served with gravy. Who does that, especially in Texas? Ordered the fish and shrimp basket for $15+ instead. I could have done better in terms of quality and cost in the frozen food aisle at the nearest super market. Fish and shrimp were obviously frozen and pre-made. There was no flavor other than the fishy taste from the catfish. Fries were pre-cut frozen with no flavor I won't be going there again and don't recommend it. read more

Found great reviews on yelp and google but they were off. I was extremely excited to try this local establishment but the quality of food less than average. I got the fish po boy based on a recommendation from an employee and it tasted like the fish was frozen. The baked potato side was hard as a rock and the tea tasted like it had been sitting there for hours. The 3 stars is because of the hospitality and atmosphere. My friend got the chicken fried steak and you could tell that was a frozen item put in a fryer as well. The cream gravy was not homemade but the Texas toast wasn't frozen. read more

A little hard to find tucked away in an industrial area, but well worth the trip. Food here is great! Good southern comfort food made to order fresh. They even have a nice little salad bar if your not up to the fried choices. The atmosphere is kind of rustic and very laid back. My only complaint would be the bathrooms. They are super tiny and only one bathroom per gender. Not the best when the restaurant is full and your having to wait in line. read more

Went for a weekday lunch. Tried the fish basket, shrimp po-boy, sweet tea, and banana pudding. The fish isn't bad if you happen to be in the area. They're thin cuts (unfortunately) with a cornmeal breading. The breading is pretty good, with a peppery taste. There don't seem to be *so* many places to get not-bad fish in B/CS, so I'm glad to find another one. I prefer a more traditional fish-and-chips style for the moistness and meatiness, but I guess that's not something that's done with catfish. So maybe catfish connoisseurs can weigh in, but as a fried fish lover I found it fine but not amazing...not greasy at all, but also not with that amazing flavor the best fried fish gets. The fish basket also came with two hushpuppies (also not-bad), two corn nuggets, and some chips (aka thick-cut fries...bleh). The corn nuggets are interesting...sort of like creamed corn deep fried in a batter. They're pretty good and if you're coming here then you should try them. The shrimp po-boy was fine. The shrimp were also battered and fried (pretty good), but the po-boy was just a hoagie with shredded lettuce and the shrimp, plus tartar sauce and cocktail sauce on the side. I'm not a po-boy expert, but I was expecting something more cajun. The tea was fine but not strong enough for me. The homemade banana pudding was good for banana pudding, but not so good I'd necessarily get it again (it would be better if the wafers were still crispy, IMO). I would come here again if someone else wanted to...the people were friendly and there's enough of a crowd that it didn't feel dead, and the inside decor is somewhat entertaining. But Feed Barn isn't a restaurant I'll ask to eat at. read more

HIDDEN GEM OF THE BRYAN/COLLEGE STATION AREA! This place was so great. My group had chick fried steaks and sirloin steaks. We were impressed with everything from the steaks to baked potatoes to seasoned fries and okra! Only thing subpar was a little was the toast. Food was phenomenal. Seafood was awesome , coming from the gulf coast to college station it was a huge surprise to find seafood this good. Good size sirloin steak for a really good price. It is very tasty, a little bit of grizzle but not bad. They have good baked potato and steak fries. They have a mini salad bar. The atmosphere is great. It's like a really old barn / building like The Chicken or Northgate. You order at the counter. Everyone is very friendlly. Have not been to the Feed Barn in several years so we tried it today. It was about 2 pm and not very busy. The person that took our order was not friendly at all. The drink machine was out of several flavors but I can overlook that. Our food was ready very quick and was hot. We each had the chicken fried steak and fries and Texas toast. We were really disappointed in the steak as it looked and tasted like it was one of those pre frozen, pre breaded institutional steaks that you by off a truck, Very thin with very little breading and it looked like pressed meat. The gravy I believe was also a mix. Also they should rename their toast to just toast because it was not what I call Texas toast just a regular piece of toasted bread with butter. The fries were good though. All in all it was edible but not worth the drive to get there. read more

I had a coupon for an item at the Feed Barn that sounded great so my sister and I decided to try it out. It's very small and difficult to find because it is surrounded by industrial companies and mechanic shops. There was nobody in the parking lot when we pulled up at four p.m., but the Open sign was cheerfully on and we were really hungry so we decided to ignore the emptiness and head in. When you walk in, you might be unsure if you have walked in your great-aunt's parlor or a resale shop, but don't worry, open up the second door and you'll be reassured. The interior decor was attractive in a western/vintage theme, but it could have looked much better had there been decent light. We ordered, filled our self-serve drinks, and chose a seat. The wait for the food was not long, maybe ten minutes. It was fantastic. We had a coupon for a hamburger basket each, and the fabulous burger was exactly what I craved. The french fries were great too, a thicker square cut and lightly crispy. Even the Dr. Pepper from the fountain was fantastic. The only other customer we saw was a woman who had called in a to-go order, so maybe it is more acceptable for people to eat the food elsewhere than in the dimly lit building. So, in shorter words, the place was a little shady and unsavory but the food made up for it entirely. I'm not sure why we were the only customers in a restaurant with such good burgers. read more

I wanted to take my son who is in college somewhere he would want to return for great chicken fried steak at an easily affordable price. Reviews raved about the Feed Barn so we sought it out. The location is bizarre - in an industrial district with a strong chemical/creosote smell in the air. The place itself is clean and comfortable on the inside and the staff is friendly and helpful. The prices are also very reasonable. The downside - all three of us ordered chicken fried steak and it was literally like eating lunch in a 5th grade school cafeteria. The steak was obviously pre-frozen as it was perfectly round. Unfortunately we did not try anything else such as the catfish or fried chicken which were highly regarded in the reviews. The chicken fried steak was definitely not like a home cooked meal. The sides offered were limited as well. At the end of the day, we wished we had gone to the Texas Roadhouse where my son recommended. I always try to avoid eating at chain restaurants, but this time I made the wrong choice. read more
