Refreshing to see affordable bbq in this inflationary environment. I was not expecting delicious Texas bbq at a reasonable price. I was also happy to not stand in line for 90 minutes with kids. Sweet glaze on the ribs but slightly dry brisket. The bark was decent enough to carry the flavor. Nice go to spot for a quick craving. I still have my top places I'm willing to wait for about 30 minutes, but here's a spot I would return in Houston. Skip the overrated and overpriced Truth. You'll be happier here. read more

I visited about six months ago and ordered the burnt ends and brussels sprouts. Both were soaked in sauce ( literally drenched ) that was really sweet. It made me sick to my stomach. I wondered why they would sauce everything so much. If you have good meat and vegetables, you don't need to cover it up. I won't be going back. I was really disappointed. read more

I ordered the smoked turkey from Goldbelly for $90 and it is inedible. It is way too salty and either trashing it or boiling to remove the spices and saltiness. Based on this experience, I would not visit this restaurant when I am in the Houston area. Thanksgiving ruined. There are so many BBQ options in Houston but I only had time to try one...and I selected Feges BBQ. Decided to build my own meal and went with Prime Brisket and Pork Ribs with the Money Cat Potatoes and Macaroni Salad. This brisket was so tender, great flavor, loved the peppery bark, and when you touched a bit of the sweet BBQ sauce to the meat...WOW! Loved the ribs...the meat just fell off the bones and the flavors were great with a bit of a heat kick. I can't remember all of the stuff in the Money Cat Potatoes but they were so darn good. The Macaroni Salad was just OK...a bit bland and lacked any of the incredible flavors in the other pieces of the meal. With all the great BarBQ places in Houston, this one won't make my short list. Although meat prices are rising everywhere, I really don't think I got my money's worth at Feges. I ordered the two meat plate with brisket and ribs. I got 2 slices of beef and 1 rib. They charged me 2 extra dollars for the brisket. I'm assuming they thought the single was big enough, because everyone else at my table got 2 ribs. Compared to my favorite places, the brisket was relatively tough. The rib was great, as were their charro beans. The loaded potato mash was just OK. I'm not sure why Texas Monthly rated them so high. On the good side, they offered 4 different sauces, and the menu is unique with salads, burgers, bowls. and a number of sides. The ambiance and service were fine. Would I come here again? Maybe, if a bunch of my friends invited me to join them. Otherwise, I stick with the other 8 or 10 Houston BarBQ joints with better food and value. read more

Full disclosure, this was not a typical stop at a local BBQ place. This was a Sean Beck Presents: A Family Style BBQ Dinner with cocktails and wines. My heart swole with pride when we drove up. I grew up in the area and I love what they did to this strip center that use to house Beef & Bun. Aesthetically modern, beautiful and fun dining area. We started with Pork Rib Tips with charred slaw and Smoked Turkey with kale, red onions, almonds, dried cranberries and champagne vinaigrette. The rib tips were well done with so much natural flavor. The smoked turkey was moist and tender with a fantastic smoke flavor. Having said all that, the star was the kale salad. Next up was Korean braised greens with hogfat cornbread and pulled pork. We also tried the smoked chicken wings with house made hot sauce. C'mon man, can it get any better? As much as I loved the braised greens with pork, those wings perfectly cooked to keep the chicken moist, tender and I love a good hot sauce. We finished with Brisket burnt ends with brussel sprouts. Just when I think I am tired of both of these selections in general, they throw this at us. Great flavor and char on the burnt ends and the sprouts were a great complement to the meat. I still love this neighborhood and can't wait for my next stop to Feges for a traditional menu indulgence. They do sell wine and beer, not sure about cocktails. read more

Oh my! You have to try this place!! For me, I like good food, a nice atmosphere and customer service is a must. This place has it all! We had a group lunch for work with 8 people, so we decided to order the meat by the pound to share and each get individual sides for ourselves. We had the brisket, link sausage and ribs. The brisket was very tender and flavorful. The link sausage was tasty. The ribs were delicious (personally my favorite part of the whole meal). They were very tender, fell off the bone and the pepper coating was amazing! They have 3 sauces to choose from on each table. The "Sweet Red" was my favorite. For my sides, I got the coleslaw and loaded potato mash. The slaw was purple cabbage, with just the right sweet with a slight sour and a good crunch. The loaded potato mash was terrific with bacon pieces throughout. Everything was so very good! The atmosphere is different than most BBQ places. It's nostalgic meets hipster (in a good way). They have an open concept with plenty of tables inside. They also have a nice covered patio with fans that wraps around the front and the side with a little play area for kids. There are items for purchase throughout the restaurant like koozies, t-shirts, sauces, hats, etc. During our stay, we heard a little bit of everything over the music speakers. True Texas Country like "My Hometown" by Charlie Robison and also Johnny Cash's cover of "Personal Jesus" and similar music between. One of the coolest things was a loop of a black and white old western called "The Gabby Hayes Show". It was presented by a projector on the walls. I had never heard of this so I did some research after our meal. The first episode of this old show was in 1950. I loved this nostalgic piece of the atmosphere. Very different and unique. The service is excellent. We were greeted warmly, our order was taken with a smile and we were offered suggestions about the menu. A++++++++ job! Thoroughly enjoyed this establishment. Man, I am so glad I went back here. I super hate a bad review, bc I worked this biz, and I know people try hard. The previous review lamented the excess of fat in the loose cut sannys . Todays was exceptional. Their Cole slaw was called. "Charred Cole slaw" I don't know why. But it was good. The sandwich was great. There was fat, to be sure, but it was well balanced, the bark was to die for. The sauce was thick and very sweet, molasses-y I liked it, but didn't really use it.. We really enjoyed our first visit to Feges (pronounced like Regis with an F) today! The staff was very friendly and helped me find an alternative to the drink I wanted that was out of stock. The bbq chicken sandwich was WAY tasty. The pulled chicken on the sandwich had a great taste all by itself and the bun for the sandwich was incredibly soft and slightly sweet. I added a little of the "gold" bbq sauce and it was great! I enjoyed all the sides, but would definitely get the sprouts and the cornbread again. The cinnamon butter was to die for w/ the cornbread. The greens were good and had a little heat and the carrots were yummy, it's just that some weren't quite cooked enough for my tastes and were a bit too hard to bite. Made my way to Houston and sampled some of the impressive selection from Feges BBQ at their Spring Branch location. The most impressive aspect of Feges is the breadth of its menu: like any cuisine, BBQ has been expanding and adapting new ingredients and flavors, with the innovation particularly notable in side dishes. Feges goes farther than most, though the results can be a bit mixed. For the main attraction, all of the meats that I sampled at Feges were good or better. They included: burnt ends, prime brisket (lean and moist), pulled whole hog, sausage, and wings in both Alabama white gravy and lime-curry sauce. What I liked the most were the brisket burnt ends that were marinated in BBQ sauce and Big Red syrup and the bark on the brisket. The textured bark on the brisket was a good contrast with the moist brisket, which I preferred slightly over the lean. My extensive sides included the spiced Moroccan carrots, hogfat cornbread with pecan-maple butter (I think?), spicy Korean braised greens, and money cat potatoes. The spiced carrots were the best of the for, adding some crunch and spice to the meal. I think the spicy Korean greens were a good try, but I thought the dish was a little too watery and needed to be reduced further. The excess water diluted the effects of the Korean spices, making the dish taste too much of alkali water. Service and support from the team at Feges could not have been better. I really appreciated the careful plating of my huge BBQ order, which enabled my pictures to come out as well as it did. Emma in particularly helpful and attentive when it came to boxing the inevitable huge amounts of meat and dishes for my trip back to Austin, so I'm very grateful to the staff at Feges for their help. read more

The ratings were high so we thought we would try this place. My stuffed potato was cold and the chicken on it was VERY dry , crunchy and I couldn't eat it. The $5.00 cornbread was dry. Went to the Long Point location on Saturday night and it didn't disappoint. We had the sprouts as an appetizer and it was great. I had a 2 meat plate, brisket and pork and it was great. Slaw and beans for sides. Nice spacious place with a playground for my 4 year old granddaughter. We all enjoyed this place the staff was great too. read more

Excellent brisket. A friend bought it at the local farmers market and heated it up for dinner with friends a couple nights later. We normally grill so this was up against tough competition. And it held up. Delicious and moist. Fatty but not disgusting. And the four of us couldn't quite finish 3.5 lbs of meat. Highly recommend. Pretty good white people's bbq with interesting sides. This isn't your traditional bbq spot, it's a new trend in Texas bbq it seems with elevated sides and ones you don't normally see on the menu. Prices are on par with other restaurants in Texas serving prime brisket. They sell meats by the 1/2 lb Be aware they don't have platters here, it is truly a la carte. They basically have meats, salads and sandwiches. On Sat and Sun, they have beef ribs for $30, and they say they're about 1.25 lbs. They can easily feed 2 or even 3 people. I ordered the beef rib, brisket, sausage, and loaded mashed potatoes. It was quite a bit of food and I took a lot home. This is definitely a family friendly place since they have nice booster chairs and a small kids play area outside along the side of restaurant. When I ate the take home bbq the next day, it wasn't as good as the 1st day, but still decent. Overall, a spot everyone should try at least once. I also enjoyed the sweet bbq sauce and their white alabama sauce. read more

Very impressed with my first visit here. Got a pound of what they call moist(half lean, half fatty) brisket, 1/2 a chicken and a spicy beef sausage link. Came with a side of what tasted like homemade bread and butter, pickles, pickled onion, and sliced jalapeño. Also, 2 different sauces. One was a rich barbecue sauce, a little sweet with a kick, and the other tasted like a smoky version of a hot honey mustard sauce for the chicken. Got it to go, and it was hands-down, the best bbq I've ever had! My husband and I now have a new go-to BBQ restaurant. Boutique BBQ at a Boutique Price. It's really good the ribs are smoked and basted masterfully I got also got the whole pork which is what they are known for. It's shredded with chicharrones for texture but instead of using just the shoulder they use the whole hog! I had the elote salad it was not the highlight of the meal. The sauces to me are the main attraction Sweet Red, is geared to a more traditional bbq sauce it's very flavorful and sweet. The Alabama white is the most intriguing sauce, it taste like a mayo based/pepper sauce. It's very complex I couldn't put it down because I was trying to figure out whether I like it or not. I guess that's the charm of that sauce. The Texas Gold Sauce is very vinegary, peppery with a tinge of heat. Overall I liked it but be prepared to spend more than the usual bbq place. read more

OK. Went to get some ribs and hopefully some brisket of the variety that I wanted. Saturday at 1130 am. The pork ribs were good. A little dry but passable. I wanted burnt ends and I know that Feges only offers them in a cubed -not really burnt end fashion in a disgusting cherry sauce- so I ordered a half pound of brisket and asked for a mix of fat and lean with as much burnt end as I could get. The girl at the counter didn't seem to understand. I reiterated. What I got was 4 nice slices of very lean, very dry brisket. Not what I wanted. I would have taken it back but I waited 20 minutes for a pound of pork ribs and a half a pound of brisket that wasn't anywhere near what I wanted. I give up. I'll find a place- in fact I know of places that make and are happy to serve debris. Sorry. read more
