This was our first actual visit and everything including the friendly service was spectacular. My wife enjoyed a fully loaded baked tater with chopped bbq brisket, it was done up right...i tried a couple bites. I went well with the three meat plate with two sides I ordered. The moist end brisket was really tender and full of flavor, the Prasek's cheese and jalapeno sausage was super good, just the right amount of heat. I knew it was Prasek's because their truck and trailer was making a delivery.....good stuff! The third meat was some tender and tasty pork ribs. The beans were flavorful and the fried okra was made fresh while we started on everything else. Needless to say...we have lots of great leftovers for our evening meal. This was bad. I ordered them for lunch delivery and am extremely disappointed. The brisket had no flavor except smoke and the fatty parts were nasty. After driving past this place for years now, I finally decided to try them since a coworker I had said they were great. I agree too. The brisket was very smoky, very nicely seasoned, very beefy and fall apart tender. The bark was great and each bite was consistent. 95% of the brisket on my plate was juicy. The bbq sauce was nicely spicy, a little sweet and a little tart with a solid tomato base holding ideal thickness in texture. I personally don't usually like runny n really sour vinegar or mustard base sauces with bbq. The dirty rice was simple but great, meaty, a bit fatty, moist and just an addictive side dish on its own or with a protein dish. The service was very welcoming, friendly and hospitable with great efficiency from both gentlemen I came across. First time coming and I'm glad I got to finally try this cool looking Bar-B-Q spot (always wondered what this old school saloon looking restaurant had in store). A little sad that there was no access to the balcony area and actually it was surprisingly small and limited in seating (I think maybe like 6-7 tables total?). I got the one meat (brisket of course) and two sides (Mac and cheese and veggie pinto beans). Veggie pinto beans pretty much means it didn't have any meat in it which was fine. I didn't realize I difference in the beans until my diabetic husband called out how sweet they were once he took a bite. Then my brother in law said the same thing sooo if you don't like sweet beans then, I'd skip on this. MAC AND CHEESE WAS AMAZING! Peppery, cheesyyyyy, and creamy. Just as good as Pappas. Everything was pretty direct when you walked in--we were greeted by friendly faces and were asked what meats and sides we wanted right away. We went for the pork belly, sausage, and brisket duh! I definitely enjoyed the Brisket with their spicy BBQ sauce along with their Potato Salad and Mac N Cheese which always goes great with Brisket. Backstory behind me coming here: I went on a long bike ride and skipped breakfast and lunch. So of course I was dying for food. BBQ had been on my mind thanks to my YouTube recommendations (don't judge). Since this place was on the way home, I called in a takeout order of the 3 meat platter (brisket, sausage, ribs, potato salad, Mac n cheese), an order of smoked wings, and pecan pie. After pick up, I dashed home to make everything presentable and started digging in. I had a mix of good and meh. The good was the ribs, sausage, potato salad, and pie. Loved the flavor of the ribs especially after drizzling some sauce on top (I heard Texas frowns at sauce. Well I don't GAF, I'm using it). Sausage was jalapeño flavored with a smoky touch, just the way I like it. Potato salad has good consistency and that pecan pie made me want to keep chewing since it was amazing. Meh was the brisket and Mac and cheese. The brisket was a bit tough and Mac and cheese could've used more seasoning. As for the wings, it had a super soft texture which tasted mushy although the smoke flavor was there so they washed out. I still had leftovers the next day. I think the flavors might've been lost on some items due to the drive home. Next time I will eat in the establishment if COVID doesn't interfere. While it's not the best BBQ around, it's definitely serviceable and better than other spots you'll find. read more

The tender sliced brisket with the right amount of smoke, then topping off with a touch of their spicy BBQ sauce and picked red onions hit the spot! I had the twice-baked Heart Attach Potato casserole side that has enough flavor to compliment their meats or stand alone as a premeal snack. But the unexpected kicker was their signature smoked pork belly! So rich in flavor with the outer layer perfectly caramelized. I'm still adjusting to how many barbecue places portion things out but thankfully stockyards put out what I thought was a perfect amount of meat with each of my requests. Decided to go with the loaded baked potato "mix" that was pretty good & the collard greens were as expected... a little bit better than average. Also decided to get the beef ribs. WOW, these jokers are expensive @ $30 & you only get 3 Ribs with no sides... a little disappointed with them only because it's more like a Brontosaurus Rib but not a lot of meat & flavor as I expected. I'm skeptical to write this review because I don't want a good thing to go bad. A girl from a small town in east Texas, all I know is smoked meat. Stockyard has come thru 2wice. This is the only bbq joint in Houston I have ordered, tried and been speechless, but not broke from ordering lol. You can taste the smoke in every bite even the sausage wow. The portions are insane, I could go on and on. The only and honestly slight negative but win for me is the the first go I ordered the whole chicken, and it wasn't cooked to my liking (a little pink) but to be honest I dipped it in their bbq sauce provided and the next day tore it down. If you want smoked meat not bbq there's a difference, you have to try Stockyard sorry. Oh and the sides cabbage a little to sweet but still good, the potato salad was great and to my liking with the egg, and chunky from the onions and celery, the look gives pasta salad but you are in for a wonderful surprise. I had stockyard tonight for the first time and it was boooomb! I got two, two meat, 2 side plates. One was sweet wet ribs and brisket with heart attack potatoes and Mac and cheese. The ribs were tender and flavorful, I asked for a more lean part of the brisket and that was no problem. Both sides were good but I'd switch out the potatoes for something else next time, mac and cheese was great. The second plate was smoked turkey and brisket with the HA potatoes and fried okra. We had bbq from here for a work lunch. It was the family size meal for 6, which meant we could try a good amount of items. There was turkey, sausage, and brisket for the meats with the western beans, dirty rice, and heart attack potatoes for sides. I think it was certainly edible bbq, but nowhere near being a place I'd recommend given the strong bbq scene in Houston. The best items to me were the brisket (it was done pretty decently, and we had a mix of both lean and fatty), along with the heart attack potatoes. The potatoes are excellent, kind of like a dry potato salad (as in, not mayo-y), with lots of flavor. My coworkers enjoyed the sausage and most of the other items. I would say the "turkey" was definitely sub-par though and I'm not entirely sure it wasn't their sliced chicken breast since it was sliced similarly to what you'd typically see. Maybe there are better things to try on the menu (the wings?), but there are also lots of other places for great bbq in Houston. read more
