Tried this spot based on a recommendation from a client, and it definitely lived up to the hype. Between our table, we ordered the brisket, turkey, ribs, and pork belly, and everything was well prepared and enjoyable. The brisket was tender with a great smoke flavor, the ribs were juicy with a nice smoke ring, and the turkey was surprisingly moist. The pork belly was also excellent--it's hard to mess up pork belly, but they did it right. The sides were all solid, and the staff was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Roegels Barbecue really impressed me. I've been touring BBQ spots all over Texas for the past couple years, and I'd say my standards are pretty high at this point. That said--this spot easily makes my Top 5 in Houston. I ordered a pound of brisket, a link of boudin, and three sides: cucumber tomato salad, Texas caviar, and cheesy mashed potatoes. Everything was spot on. The brisket was tender and flavorful with a nice bark, and the boudin had a great texture and spice without being too heavy. The sides were balanced and well thought out--none of them were overly seasoned or trying too hard. They complemented the meat instead of competing with it. The cucumber tomato salad and Texas caviar brought some fresh, tangy contrast, while the cheesy mashed potatoes were creamy and comforting. Also, shoutout to the house-made barbecue sauce--served chilled, which I actually really liked. It added a perfect punch to the plate without masking any of the smoky flavor in the meat. I remember this location by a different name some years ago Baker's Ribs. I stopped by around 01:30pm and only saw a few vehicles in the parking lot. The hostess informed me that they were out of ribs and only had brisket, regular sausage. I ordered the brisket and sausage sandwich for $21.00. The brisket was old and dry with no smoke flavor and the sausage tasted boiled. I was completely dissatisfied with the food and the quality. The hostess was very nice, however. I would definitely not return to this location for barbecue. I can't believe that they ran out of barbecue and it's only 1:30 PM. I remember when the business was Baker's ribs you could smell the wood smoke as soon as you walked into the restaurant, even on the outside. With the idea of charging $21 for a tasteless barbecue sandwich is unacceptable to me. read more

It's one meal on one day, but today, I had a fantastic meal at Roegels. Those of you who are familiar with my reviews know that I'm very critical and picky when it comes to BBQ, and I don't suffer bad BBQ well. This place came recommended from a fellow BBQ "snob" back in Dallas, and I'm very glad I dropped in. Wanting to try several things, I picked the three meat plate with fatty brisket, pork ribs, and jalapeno sausage. I went with Texas caviar and collard greens for the sides, and nothing else. No bread, no other stuff. I took my haul outside on the patio since it was a beautiful day. and I dug in. Here's what I found: Brisket - easily top ten pieces of brisket that I've had. Very moist, great smoke flavor, well rendered fat, and tender to the tooth. Really tasty stuff. Ribs - presented as one giant, meaty pork rib, it featured a mildly sweet rub, properly juicy, and the texture was perfect, which, and I say this a lot, was NOT "falling off of the bone", which is a terrible benchmark. These ribs should be the benchmark, they were fantastic. Jalapeno sausage - the weakest of three very strong meats. That doesn't mean it's bad in any way, it's just not in the top ten of sausage I've tried in 15+ years of eating top tier BBQ. It did have great flavor, proper heat, good moisture etc. I'd prefer a more coarse grind and less "packing", but I'm picking nits. It was still a very good meat choice. Texas caviar - a solid side, could use some work in the spice department, but made with good ingredients. Very fresh and not as heavy as the typical BBQ side. Collard greens - honestly, probably top three best examples of this dish I've ever had. The greens had some texture but were still very tender, the juice was well seasoned but not overly so. An absolutely spectacular side. Definitely worth a try. All in all, this was a very good meal, and it's definitely worth checking out. read more

Roegels barbecue co is, by far, the best BBQ joint I've tried in Houston (that includes Truth Barbecue & The Pit Room). The brisket was moist, flavorful, and left us wishing we had purchased more. The pork ribs were falling off the bone, flavorful, and well seasoned! By far the best part of my meal. The pulled pork was the only let-down of the day. Way too much salt for my liking. There is a reason I haven't tried this place til now. I tried to call in an order to pick up but you can't directly do that, you have to go through a 3rd party delivery co. I ordered the 2 meat /2 side plate with sausage and ribs and all I can say the meal was alright. I've been to plenty of bbq places but I wouldn't go again unless someone really wanted to try it And one more thing when I ordered I tried to order a drink but didn't see it under any of the tab options so I had to order it when I picked it up. I ordered a takeout of Lean Brisket with Mac n Cheese & Cucumber-Tomato Salad yesterday less than half an hour before closing. I was very impressed. All 3 were very delicious, well-seasoned, good quality, juicy and fresh. Very flavorful meat n sides. The brisket was very supple in smokiness, black pepper, salt n some fat for moisture n taste too. It was naturally very beefy, hearty and bold in the protein sect of the meat itself without being irony or chewy. I cut some of the extra fat off n ate some of it when I didn't. Imo, if u are a fan of Killen's Bbq on a good day for brisket, then you will probably feel the same of this place's brisket, bc they taste highly similar. The beef was very easy to cut. I would say their brisket is without doubt one of the best in Houston personally. It didn't need any sauce, but a little never hurts either. The sauce had a great base and thickness, but was a bit too acidic / sour I thought. Not bad, but I prefer it a little sweeter n peppery. The mac n cheese was very good n loved the pasta shells that were used for them in terms of appearance and texture holding the creamy cheddar together. Very rich side dish. The salad was cool, refreshing and very good with a slightly sweet n tangy aroma to it. I really like a good cucumber- tomato salad in general. Both Roegels and Levant Bbq nail brisket, mac n cheese and that particular salad very nicely. Very efficient, welcoming and friendly service as well. Seems like it might be a hole in the wall unsuspecting old school BBQ spot here on Voss. They have wood on the walls and the whole barn aesthetic down pat. I'm gonna give a run down on what we picked this time around: Brisket: Excellent texture and beef flavor, fork tender and just barely holds together in the right way... however severely lacking in seasoning (salt) and smoke. I'm not a pit master (yet) and thought this to be very obvious omission from the flavor profile. Sausage: a little too much cheese in the jalapeño cheddar links. Good snap to the skin and nice consistency. Pork Ribs: these ribs are a little on the firmer side, I know some people want gelatinous fall off the bone pork ribs, but they had a nice little bark. Slightly sweet; slightly spicy. Good middle road of texture, flavor, and heat. The sides are all average. We tried the potato salad, collard greens, and Texas Caviar. Located on Voss in the Memorial area. They're going for a rustic, barnyard BBQ ambiance. Interior was definitively an old fashioned saloon setup; you pick your meats and sides and get on with it. We got moist beef brisket, pork ribs, cheddar sausage, and boudin along with some assortment of sides. Pork ribs 4/5 These were on the firm side but still separated from the bone. Milder flavor that expected but it was tasty. Brisket 3/5 Super tender and fall apart. Unfortunately it was under seasoned and under smoked and the grease factor was so strong that you couldn't eat more than a piece or two without being overwhelmed. They also could've used a more acidic sauce to cut through the richness. Sausage TBD/5 Didn't try it Boudin 3.5/5 Pretty good boudin but didn't really expect it at a BBQ spot. I ordered about $50 worth of BBQ on uber eats and unfortunately uber eats does not allow you to order drinks on the app. So I called the restaurant and requested a lemonade be included in my order. The management team was extremely rude and unprofessional and denied my lemonade. BEST BARBECUE TO DATE. Since moving to Houston, I've been on the hunt for some of the best BBQ I could find here since we seemed to be lacking some when we lived in Florida. We each got the Two Meat Plate which mine consisted of pork belly, moist brisket, Mac n cheese and backed beans with brisket. The moist brisket was about 50% fat which is exactly what I wanted. It melted in your mouth it was so juicy. The pork belly did the exact same. I loved the crust on the pork belly. The Mac n cheese was especially creamy. The only thing I didn't care for were the beans, but that's all of the BBQ places. They definitely do their beans differently here in Texas versus the south (less sweet more savory) and there's nothing wrong with them, it's just a preference. Robert got the moist brisket with pork ribs and the same sides. We loved the pork ribs too as they fell off the bone. Honorable mention to the staff. Not too heavy and not too much grease. My favorite items were the banana pudding and the sausage. The employees were nice, you order at the counter and pick the food up. When you leave you take your plate to the trash area and sort everything out there. The interior is a little small but not too crowded. Luckily we got here right before they sold out for the day! We got there about 230 on a Sunday. The sides are amazing! My favorite was the Mac and cheese. Soooo creamy!! It took me many years to visit this popular bbq spot in the galleria/memorial area, but I was craving bbq and I was in the area and decided to see what all the fuss was about. Inside, it's dark and homey, but smells great like a bbq restaurant should with smoke in the air. I perused the menu and just wanted something quick and not too elaborate, so I chose the bbq baked potato and a sausage link, with mac and cheese, and a sweet tea. The sausage, they have 4 varieties, was easily the best item I tried. The links are homemade and I asked the shift manager at the register to surprise me with the flavor. He chose jalapeno cheese, which wasn't really spicy, but very flavorful. The brisket on the potato was chopped, with sauce on the side The potato itself was huge. The entire meal turned into 3 meals basically. The sauce is served warm. The mac and cheese was peppery with spiral noodles and lightly coated with their cheese sauce. It was good, but I prefer more of a soupy mac n cheese, with a variety of gourmet cheeses. The sweet tea wasn't all that sweet when I poured half and half, so I went back for a refill and made it 75/25 which helped. Overall, I liked the place a lot...but I think I prefer Stockyard a bit better for their brisket. Service at Roegels is better though, as every staff I communicated with spoke to you like family, instead of a business. read more

My next and last barbecue joint that I went to on my recent trip to Houston was Roegels Barbecue. Although it wasn't as highly ranked on Yelp as some of the alternatives, my friends told me that Roegels was actually more worth it. Came here around 12 pm on a Monday to see how it is. Kept it simple and ordered four things: 1 lb of moist brisket, 1 lb of pork ribs, mac and cheese, and one jalapeno cheddar sausage. Brisket wasn't the best I've had, but definitely up there on briskets I've had. Pork ribs were great as well. Mac and cheese was more on the conventional side, but I liked it a lot. And you can't go wrong with a jalapeno cheddar sausage! Bruce took my order and was super friendly. Really great customer service! Even though it's not as popular as some of the other Houston BBQ joints, Roegels definitely holds its weight as a fine BBQ establishment. Definitely worth the trip! read more

They said no and that it was bone marrow when I could visibly see it coming from the chicken. Please be careful when ordering chicken. My daughter has gotten salmonella in the past an there should never be visible blood in the chicken. I live in Houston but travel quite a bit and have had Franklins bbq, interstellar bbq, 2M, Panther City bbq, Hutchins, Goldie's and other bbq restaurants across the great state of Texas. Roegels bbq is up there with the best in the state. I've been eating here since 2010 and the brisket and food is always consistently top notch. Tried the Trinity. Ribs good, brisket good, all three sausages nothing special. Didn't ask us if we wanted lean or fatty, luckily we got fatty. The collard greens were tasty as well as Texas caviar.
