Just came back from Ferguson's for breakfast after church. Was bummed out they where closed for so long. What a good reason to close, completely redecorated, new menu! The ambiance is exceptional! The food was excellent! I disagree with the person that said the appeal of the original Ferguson's was gone. It is still there and then some. It has a nice open feeling about, the wait staff is great, and the food is out of this world for the price! The new decor has opened up the building without taking away any of the "Benny and Joon" appeal, I will be back and bring my friends with me! Bravo! Good job.. read more

I love this cafe, until recently. There was a waitress that was just standing there on her phone, she is loud and rude. I don't think I will ever come to this place again. Aylisha was her name. It took forever to get her attention so I can order. I'm very upset because I absolutely adore this cute little cafe and after this experience I doubt I'll be back. read more

Exactly what you think an iconic 50's diner should look and feel like without being too kitchy-- Waitress was a sweetie, cook was laughing with a customer seated at the counter. We went in for breakfast after an early morning appointment uptown and really enjoyed it. I had the burger steak breakfast and my husband had chicken fried steak. Eggs were cooked as ordered and hash browns were crispy. Wish this was more on our usual route, but we would definitely go back when in that area of town. read more

As a Spokane Native, I have surprisingly never been to the famous diner that appeared in many films such as "Benny & Joon", and that had burnt down in a horrible fire last year. After a complete remodel in 2012, the place looks great, sitting adjacent to the Milk Bottle in the Garland District. We were greeted with smiles right away, as we seated ourselves in an adorable, huge yellow booth. The service was sweet and friendly, and our breakfast that late Monday morning was very fast, we barely had time to read about their "ancient" history on the front of the menu! The food was good. We were warned that is does get very busy on Sunday's, and that they do have Chai Tea, which I will get next time we go! I highly recommend this place for breakfast. read more

The joy we felt as we were driving down Garland and saw the signs that Ferguson's was back open was short lived. We had enjoyed Ferguson's for years and we were so sad to see it closed, so we jumped at the chance to go when they reopened. The Reuben was overcooked and overlysalty. It was actually worse than something you would get at Denny's or Perkins. The double hamburger was ok - not something I would go back for. The waitress said the owner is the same guy that opened Wolfy's on Hamilton. I wish I would have known that before I sat down - I would have left then. And the decor looks like a mustard bottle threw up inside. Sad to see this monument not restored to its original greatness. read more

Had a wonderful time for dinner here the other night. It is like stepping back in time, when you see the decor. It is fun to read the history of the place. The food was good. The portions are not nearly as big as what you get at Molly's downtown, but, it was still really good. Not a huge menu, but comfort food is served here. Our server was very friendly and efficient. One of us had Country Fried steak with mashed potatoes, that was served with a salad. It was enjoyed. I had a cold meatloaf sandwich with french fries and a side of gravy. I added a dinner salad that was a good size. I also had a vanilla malt, and it was big.... couldn't finish it all. It is fun to watch the cook prepare your food in the open kitchen setting. Not one flaw or draw back on our visit. We will be going back.... I highly recommend. read more

Great service with a smile from both the front of the house and back. I asked about the Sonnenberg sausage and the server asked if I wanted to try some for free...they warmed it up and served it with mustard, she delivered the food and he brought the mustard. Hard to impress this guy with service, but this place does! The food was equally as delicious! I ordered 2 eggs, hashbrowns with onions, and the Sonnenberg sausage with a piece of french toast. French toast was sweet and moist with warm maple syrup on the side. I ordered coffee and they offer free pour sugar (a novelty for a sugar lover). Went there for breakfast with the family, was very cramped. You basically are seating right on top of each other. Ordered an omelette ($9 bucks??) It was not done, this was not just my eggs buteveryone's at the table. Our waitress was an older gal and gave a lot of attitude when we asked for items that were ordered but not brought to the table. My husband and I found this little 50's diner on a Saturday morning, so the street fair was going on which made for great people watching. The food was great, hubby loved the chicken fried steak, I got the French toast, very yum, nothing too special. Fergasons cafe was a resturant, that my grand mother worked. One man from back east came all the way from back east just to ask my grand-mother to marry & run it. She turned him down. She turned him down, but she made all the homemade pies there. She have been in pictures that hung on the wall. If only I could have them, I would treasure them. I know they are the owners, but even a copy of them would be great. I have seen the one hanging on the wall, last time I visited there. I hope it did not get burnt. I hope the other ones he said he had, but put away. Great place to go. i sure hope they fix the resturant. :( read more

Have eaten here several times now. The service is friendly, attentive, & knowledgeable. The chicken fried steak dinner was outstanding and the best I've had since I can't remember. Homemade mashed potatoes with cream gravy were also wonderful. The green side salad was delightfully fresh romaine (no tasteless iceberg) with a nice generous sprinkling of diced tomato. On another visit I had the cold meatloaf sandwich with homemade tomato soup - very generous chunk of meatloaf - almost as good as my homemade! A business purporting to be Fergusons has reopened in the same building. . . and what a complete disappointment. My husband and I live in the Garland district, were driving by on the way to dinner elsewhere, and saw the "OPEN" sign. We were regulars at the "real" Fergusons and went straight in for dinner. First off, part of the appeal of the original Fergosons was the historic building with the original funky, old-time diner layout. Enter the new owners, and they've remodeled it over into an attractive, but new diner. I'm not sure why they kept the Ferguson's name, except that they want to profit off of the Ferguson's reputation. I'm sure they bought the legal right to do this, but it's heartbreaking to sit in this new, remodelled space that's gone too far and destroyed the history and funky ambiance. The menu has similar items, breakfast, sandwiches, burgers & ice cream, but the new owners didn't even have the decency to try to mimic even a the basic burgers. I ordered a cheeseburger, and it was fine. That's all, just fine. It had some sort of catsup-mayo "fry-sauce" type of sauce liberally applied. I thought the sauce was fine, just less of it. It really belonged in a squeeze bottle to be brought to the table with the other burger condiments. I liked it, just wanted LESS. The fries aren't the big, thick Ferguson's fries, they've switched to tiny, thin fries like the frozen ones my Mom used to bake up in the oven with the fishsticks. Granted, these fries were perfectly cooked, but were too skinny for the soft, fluffy center and crispy outside that the REAL Ferguson's fries had. They were all crispy. Not bad, but again, not Fergusons. Overall, this is a cutely decorated, reasonably priced little diner with adequate food. It's nothing special. And that's the problem. The real Fergusons was extra-special. It was weird. It was a step back into another era. The layout was refreshing and fun. The barstools were a blast from the past, the countertops authentic. The new remodel has destroyed the authentic diner, then created a "wanna-be" 50's diner look. They should've left it alone. From one of the most authentic, unique places in Spokane to "nothing special". It breaks my heart. The new owners have destroyed Fergusons. They should at least be honest enough to rename it. The new restaurant has nothing but an address in common with Fergusons, and they should admit it. read more

I WAS going to give this place 5 stars, until this morning. My boyfriend and I have been here numerous times and have always had great service. Our waitress today has been great in the past. However, we were finishing up our breakfast and talking a little bit and our waitress basically asked us to leave because she had a "line waiting" to be seated. In my opinion, that was EXTREMELY poor customer service. Especially, because there were two open tables that weren't in her section. So I can only assume she wanted to make more money for herself. Excellent experience! Cute little seat-yourself cafe, child friendly and family oriented. The bacon cheeseburger was PERFECT with real bacon and FRESH lettuce/tomato, the meat was cooked perfectly! Great food, nice atmosphere. Cool little diner. We went on a Sunday about 10am and it was busy but slowing down a bit. The wait staff seemed really rushed and confused at times. We were told to follow a waitress to our booth only to be told by another to wait. Once we were seated, we saw one of our silverware sets had a napkin that looked like it had been used to squash a small bug or something. The waitress promptly replaced it with a smile and topped off our coffee. The food was slow coming out of the kitchen but very well executed. Smallish on the protein if you're used to black bear diner portions. For us it turned out to be perfect. A highlight for the kids was that the soda out of the fountain was better than the canned version or the new self serve dispensers you find in most restaurants. Bottom line, don't come here if you're in a rush and try the soda. The place has a personal touch and the wait staff knows how to smile and apologize to smooth out any wrinkles. Only place my son wants to go. We both had french dips, he loved it. Me , I thought it was skimpy that's why I gave 3 stars could of put some meat on it I think it only had about 2 pieces of it and of course think the crew ran out of fries or they ate them. Fries are one of the cheapest things for a restaurant to serve. That was what I noticed the crew was busy snacking more then working. I have really triing to support or neighborhood and have been sense before the fire and I will continue. JUst wanted the owner to know how much things have changed. read more

Very excited to find this gem. I am a huge fan of cafe's that serve really good breakfast and this fits that well. I took 6 of my small kids and we were seated right away. They provided coloring for the littles. Menu is standard cafe style food(biscuits & gravy, hash browns, eggs, pancakes, meats, etc.) and it was fantastic. With only 1 cook working and a busy Saturday morning, we received our food very fast. The kids loved the food and the cafe style. Again, these are the kinds of places we like to frequent because we generally get great service with great "old school" style food that has flavor and fills you up. The bacon was thick with tons of flavor and the hash browns were great. That is really the only thing I ever order at cafe's. I eat the eggs and toast and things but I judge on the bacon and hash browns. Everyone that was working was in such a great mood and made everything more enjoyable. And it seems like they all get along so well. We will be back many more times. read more
