They used to be so much better. But after shut downs a few years ago they couldn't find anyone to work here, except for the convenience store and Starbucks. And the Subway is long gone. It seems they have at least figured out how to keep the kitchen open with regular hours, but the food is only okay now. Nothing really stood out to praise, other than the host guy who seemed to be doing everything but cooking did a great job. Our wait was long, but our daughters and my guy never have a problem chatting until the food arrives.

PSA: I have no idea what is going on with this place? The scamdemic was hard on their ops, and it's been a rough go, I guess. They state they are Iron Skillet, but the TA-Petro website indicates no Iron Skillet at this location? There's a diner-like thing going on here, but no one is sure what the hours are? That's not fair to truckers who are looking for more than a Subway sammie on their mandatory 36-hr rest stops. Lunch was fine today, but when don't I love truck stop fare, right? One staff member told me they close at 2PM, and another said 8PM. They need to figure it out. I am interested to see how they look to the future, now that a mega truck stop is planned in the Geiger area, one I-90 exit away...

Loved the buffet!! Our server was attentive and friendly even though he didn't have to be; it was a buffet after all. The salad bar was fresh, and well tended to; the ranch dressing was perfect. Try their fried chicken and mashed potatoes! Mmmmmm mmmmm good. The "brisket" was flavorless and tough. Clean, fast (because we ate at the buffet) They even refill your drinks in to go cups at no cost.

As usual great food and people. They do close after lunch most days since they can't find a night cook. You know with all the free government stuff people done need a job. It's sad, because this is a great food place. The double bacon cheeseburger I didn't photo well. Two huge real burger patties I am so full. Usually more than you can eat

I was in Spokane for a conference and stumbled upon Wooden City because it is on the Spokane "where…read moreto eat list". A deeper dive showed a good possibility of gluten free options, so I made the reservation. I was in town on a Monday, just after Hoopfest, but they were the kind of busy where a reservation should always be made I think. My table was ready and I sat in the bar at a high top table. I think I would choose "in the dining room" next time. My server was friendly and quick, as well as knowledgeable about gluten free options. There is even a separate menu that lays out the dishes that are already gf or could be made to be. Love this, always. I ordered the summer salad to start. It was amazing. Flavorful. Fresh. The mint wasn't overpowering, the watermelon was the perfect ripeness. It was so good. I would try to recreate it but it was done so well, and I know I couldn't hit that dressing in the same way. Get it while you can. For my main, I had ordered the scallops in my brain before I even arrived. The risotto was a little soupy, but the flavor was SO good. The corn came through and it went so well with the scallops. The tomatoes were quite over salted, but as long as I didn't eat them alone, it was alright. The scallops were perfectly cooked and I felt like the portion was appropriately sized for the dish, even though there were only 4. My server really made the experience enjoyable. The atmosphere was busy but the booths looked like they could be cozy. The prices were on the higher end. But for a special occasion, it was worth it. I really wished I'd had room for dessert. I will surely go back the next time I am in town.

First off, I was looking for an authentic Napoli style pizza. Like a fresh red sauce from crushed tomatoes and a beautiful chewy, pillowy, yet charred crust. The verdict: Wooden City is the winner! The crust is really really good! The sauce is a bright beautiful tomato sauce that looks like crushed tomatoes however, the sauce was lacking flavor:( I would give this pizza a 3 out of 5. The crust is a 4 1/2 star but the sauce lacking in flavor..brought it down to a 3. Cute place, very pleasant friendly staff..way friendlier vibe than Barrelhouse. The boys are easy on the eyes for younger girls on the hunt! Lmao Don't bother with the Margherita pizza at Barrelhouse. Thank God I only paid $12 for the Margherita Monday deal of half off! The crust was horrible! Dominos has better crust! Costco pizza's had a better crust! The sauce has flavor, very garlicky like fresh garlicky but more of a paste with a load of oregano in it. The cheese didn't have that fresh taste I was hoping for. However, they are known for their Detroit pizza's which I haven't tried but if it's the same sauce, I would pass. Not saying it's bad but it's just not MY cup of tea whether it's for a Detroit style or any pizza. Now you don't have to guess which place has a better Margherita pizza. I wouldn't even pay $12 at Barrelhouse for a marg. Would I come back, yes, if I were in my 20's.. lol but since I'm older and the food is more important to me...no...:/ But hey, maybe their other pizza's are better! I can see a salty pepperoni being good!

The restaurant seems to be a family ran business. Sadly, this review isn't good. We went on Sunday around 11:30 AM. The restaurant wasn't busy, only 3 other tables there. We ordered a basket of buttermilk biscuits as an appetizer. My husband ordered a Loaded Breakfast Burrito. My mom ordered the Florentine Benedict with house potatoes. I ordered the classic Eggs Benedict. It took 30 minutes to get our appetizer of biscuits. The restaurant wasn't busy, so I don't know why it took so long. It took another 10 minutes to get our food. 40 minutes for food is ridiculous, especially classic breakfast food! Our server didn't come by with any update while we waited. My husband loved his breakfast burrito! My mom enjoyed her Florentine Benedict. I didn't like my Eggs Benedict. The Benedict serving was huge! The hollandaise sauce covered half the plate! The portion of the smoked ham was generous, but not proportional. The amount of ham was too salty for the meal. My mom and I agreed the hollandaise sauce was overwhelming and bland. I added pictures of our leftover Eggs Benedict, still so much hollandaise sauce left. The hash browns were salty to me, but I am sensitive to salt. I'd come back for the biscuits. The portions were big, but bigger isn't always better. Bene's, another breakfast restaurant down the street is exceedingly better for Eggs Benedict.

I only saw the back of the cook but he was tall with a long wrapped pony tail. He knows his business. Eggs were scrambled soft and boxed separately. I can honestly tell you that I have never got a steak that size, it was a 8 ir 10 oz steak , maybe 12 oz but it was huge! Great value. Eating on the road is not cheap and although we get paid well, over the road expenses add up. THE KITCHEN at Petro makes it affordable to eat a quality meal. While this Downtown location is the flagship diner, Frank's Diner also opened a second location in North Spokane. [Parking]: The diner has a designated parking lot and I had no issue finding an available spot at 6 PM on a weekday. [Atmosphere]: Upon entering, there is a sign stating that the diner serves "15 thousand eggs and 3 tons of hash browns per month." The railcar has a great retro vibe and visitors can choose between bar seating and table seating. [Menu]: Yelp's top recommended items include Eggs Benedict and Chicken-Fried Steak. Breakfast favorites are served with hashbrowns or fruit and a choice of toast. There is also no extra charge for adding gravy or grilled onions to your hashbrowns. Do yourself a favor and choose the hashbrowns and also ask to add gravy on hashbrowns. *** Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs (Half-pound crispy chicken fried steak with cream gravy and two eggs - sunny side, gravy on hashed brown, biscuit - $22.00): My waitress, Jenn, recommended the biscuit so I went with it. The hashbrowns were absolutely heavenly - crispy on the edges and moist on the inside. It was hands down one of the best hashbrowns I have ever had. The gravy was silky smooth. And holy crap the biscuit was a home run - ultra fluffy + amazing tasting jam (not overly sweet). The portion was so large that I had enough leftovers for the next day. *** It was an unexpected find in Spokane and absolutely S-tier for both food quality and service. In fact, I think the food here is better than many classic and upscale breakfast spots in Los Angeles. Absolutely a must-visit in Spokane.
