Ferlito's has seen better days. The restaurant is dated, and it shows in both the decor and menu. This is our second visit and we were as disappointed this time as we were the first time. There are simply better Italian choices within blocks, let alone a 10 minute drive that are much better tasting and a much better value. First of all, we were greeted to be told there was a wait for 2. We saw 2 tables for 2 completely open but were told to wait. A couple came in behind us, no mention of a reservation, no call ahead reference but were seated in one of those free tables. The guy behind the counter said to them "Yeah that table has been open a while. They (meaning us) are waiting for something else." No one ever asked us where we wanted to sit. We just wanted a seat. So they got sat, walking in after us, before we did. So unprofessional. I didn't think I had to ask where to sit. Once finally seated we were handed a 3x5" card with specials written in pen only to be told "we don't have the cream sauce and we don't have capers". It was 7pm. Not only is it so unprofessional to have your waitstaff just show customers a card with something handwritten on it, but then to be told part of it is wrong fairly early in a dinner service. Forget it. They bring bread which wasn't warm or appealing with butter packages and packaged breadstick things. Forgettable. The salad bar. Oh where to start.... it costs extra for most orders and is so unappealing. It offered the following toppings: Sliced mushrooms, chickpeas, packaged bacon bits, crotons, and beets. Nothing else. Are you serious? Nothing else. Sure they had 5 dressings to choose from but no toppings. So sad. Big Boy could blow this away. We ordered a pizza and eggplant parm. The pizza was bland, so so bland. 2 pieces and my wife was done. My eggplant was just pouring with sauce. Nothing fresh about it. It was just so unappealing when delivered and so over sauced. Look, our server was sweet and attentive. Nothing against her... but this place is so forgettable and not worth the money. We should have known what to expect when the biggest sign when you enter that you notice (no joke) is "Did you see our coupon on then back of the Kroger Receipt?" For real? They have 5 coupons posted (non of which we had) and just so classless. Here's an easy tip.... Salvatore Scalapini is less than 4 blocks away and costs less (no exaggeration) and is a MUCH better atmosphere and much better tasting and diverse menu. Forget this place. Newly renovated and new owners since we were here last. It's been a long time. There was no wait tonight. The calamari was very good, as was the house salad, tiramisu and soup. The entree's were ... Ok. Service was very good. We ordered the chocolate cake and taramisu just to try; the cake was a little dry and tough from being refrigerated. Looks like a large beer/wine selection and the crates were used to decorate the walls. Eggplant parm, cheese ravioli, burger and the desserts, no drinks. $70.00. Which we thought was a bit steep. Competition is tough in a 5 Mile radius of you're looking for more reasonably priced Italian fare, or more just more reasonably priced. read more

This place is so nice after the remodel and the new owner is a very talented chef. We ordered a burger, shrimp Alfredo and stuffed pizza all to share because we were super hungry. I didn't expect much of the burger because it's an Italian restaurant, but it blew me away! Seasoned to perfection. The stuffed pizza was really good, if you love a cheesy pizza you'll love it. I didn't get to eat much of the Alfredo, but the bite I had was delicious. They feature fine art by Leah Nadeau, which just happens to be me, and I like that they chose a local artist to bring the restaurant some color and joy. We came for dinner on a Saturday night with 3 adults and a small child . Wait staff was attentive, and quick with waters and taking our orders. Food was good, except my grilled chicken with lemon and rosemary sauce. It was good, except the white meat (Breast) was very dry. I basically only ate the thigh and wing. So I was disappointed. The salad bar selection is limited. I wish there were more vegetables to select. read more

Visited Ferlito's for the first time this past weekend. First impression walking in was the decor was a little dated, but it gave it a bit of charm; kind of like eating dinner at Grandma's house. We ordered the calamari and it was pretty OK. Some pieces were a bit chewy, some were really awesome. The sauce that came with it was really solid, however I do not think I would order it again. Overall: 5/10 The bread and butter was pretty great and the salad bar was just alright. We ordered a couple entrees and once again, they were pretty OK. 1) Spaghetti w/ meatballs in the meat sauce: The noodles were cooked perfectly and the sauce was really good. It had a bit of a sweetness to it, which was really pleasant. The meatballs were not very good. They were quite mushy and had a not-so-great texture to them. Overall 6.5/10 2) Chicken Alfredo: Once again the noodles were cooked perfectly and the Alfredo sauce was some of the best I've had. It was creamy, cheesy and had a buttery flavor. The chicken on the other hand was extremely bland. While the grill marks made it visually appealing, there was absolutely no seasoning on it at all. I found myself eating around the chicken, which made the $2 upgrade kind of a bad deal. Based on the sauce alone, I would definitely go back for this next time. Overall: 7.5/10 The service was awesome though! Really friendly and attentive staff. While there is still room for improvement, it's still a pretty solid place for some pasta! read more

Whenever I'm in the mood for Italian food and don't feel like traveling for, Ferlito's is my pick! The menu itself may seem small to some, but it's filled with just about everything you could possibly like. The service is always wonderful. Waiters have always been kind, welcoming, and more importantly -- helpful. The first time I was here I was slightly overwhelmed by all the options. Ferlito's also offers daily specials. I asked what is a popular item is and the waitress recommended the baked vegetable lasagna. Boy was I happy I decided on that! Not only is it delicious, it is also massive! Seriously, my whole family could've split just that and been fine. The lasagna itself is filled with fresh zucchini and and topped with homemade sauce and noodles. The ricotta and other cheeses definitely add to the flavor. You definitely get a good bang for you buck here. Portions are quite sufficient if you're weary of the prices. Salad bars includes fresh vegetable options, homemade dressings, and delicious croutons. Easily one of my salad bars that I've been to. I've always came across this place in my yelp search for great lasagna and today I just happened to be in the area. I ordered lasagna and a pizza for my son. He loved the pizza! The atmosphere seemed great but I did get horrible seating facing the window. So on to the lasagna, I enjoyed it. The sauce was flavorful. I could definitely taste the ricotta and Parmesan. It was very cheesy! I will try it again. I also tried the salad bar, they had a in house Italian dressing that was incredible! Also the staff was very inviting and helpful. I asked about the cell signal and our waitress took my phone and hooked it up to their WiFi. Best perk is I overheard the manager stating the owner was cooking in the back!! The take out menu is somehow different from the regular menu. I ended up calling the manager because I got plain pesto pasta, which does not taste good without some sort of veggie to soak up a bit of the oil. So the pesto that is on the regular menu comes with button mushrooms and roasted tomatoes, the take out pesto doesn't come with anything. The manager did address this issue when I called and I decided it wasn't worth the hassle of having them remake it, delivery already took one hour. So we just decided to eat what was delivered. The pesto is sooo oily, it was also pretty bland and I couldn't finish more than half. Macaroni from the kids menu is as basic as it sounds and comes with zero sides or a drink. The veal parmesan was dry and had no flavor. Super disappointed I wasted $45 on a meal for 3. That's way too expensive to be this disappointed, especially $15 for PLAIN PASTA. And I'm shocked at some of the reviews, if they can't manage delivery, it shouldn't be an option. read more

So I'm perusing the pages of Yelp pizza places near me and I come across this one, I was looking for a pizza place I've never eaten at before so I figured I'll give this place a try. I ordered the Chicago style and cheese sticks, I'm expecting a pretty substantially thick pizza with you know a lot of cheese, you know really good like Chicago-style pizza should be. I open up the box it doesn't look too terrible but it doesn't look like a Chicago Style deep dish pizza. And all I smell is garlic, don't get me wrong I love garlic but this is all I tasted was garlic. Also it was lacking sauce, I never thought I would need to order extra sauce on Chicago style pizza. I guess bottom line, I wouldn't recommend Chicago style pizza unless you like just eating Garlic. The cheese sticks were actually better than the pizza, will I go back that's debatable right now. read more

I've always frequented Ferlito's for their good value and family style dining until about a year ago when the restaurant started changing. Just now seems like an average Italian restaurant. They've gotten rid of the salad bar, which isn't a deal breaker. They also served the butter for the bread in a weird way, just three slices of butter served on a plate. I've never seen that before in any restaurant? It also seems like their recipes have changed as things have never tasted the same. My biggest complaint is the service, our dining experience took about an hour and a half. Food took 40 minutes for it to arrive at our table. It didn't seem like the server was slow, the place just seemed understaffed for dinner service. I'm saddened now that I'll have to find a new Italian place to frequent. read more

It has been years since I've eaten here and I was so very disappointed. Note: Service was great! (otherwise, rating would be lower) White pizza was terrible - chicken super dry. Alfredo sauce tasted odd (hard to describe). Angel hair pasta with alfredo sauce- also terrible - tasted like a jar of fat with some pasta mixed in. Please ignore the silly bad reviews. This place is super cute. It has that old fashioned nostalgic little Italian Place around the corner feel. The staff is nice,menu ample, and refrigerated mile high desserts at eye level when you walk in. You'd feel comfortable here on a date or with Grandma. They said they're getting ready to redecorate, I hope they keep a nostalgic feel! My husband said the pizza was the best he's had since childhood, my parents lasagna was awesome and super filling btw like a cheesy tower, and my minestrone soup was yummy and thick. The salad bar was a little sad, but still not bad. They seem totally comfortable answering any dietary questions too. Hopefully after the remodel, they'll make some pizza with Daiya cheese ! read more

I have lived blocks away for 14 years and have not stopped in until now. Why did I wait 14 years?? This place is amazing!! Bread came out first. Kids ate most of it. Soup next, ordered chicken noodle which the kids enjoyed dipping their bread in. Ordered chicken piccata gluten free and it was absolutely amazing. Got a side of veggies as couldn't even eat them. Hubs had chicken piccata as well with the potatoes. We were stuffed and everything was amazing. We already came back less than a week later. Service is awesome. Sunday looks like one busy night for Ferlito's. We arrived at 5:40 ish and it was just in time to get a booth. They were setting up a 10 top next to us. Andy was friendly and greeted us warmly. This was our first visit and I had to try the bacon Jam vinaigrette on the Michigan Salad. We started with the Bruschetta, very good. The bread is the BEST. Good balance with the balsamic reduction and tomatoes & basil. Was that Aged Mozz on there? I couldn't resist and ordered a small plate of lasagna. First the salad: Great salad mix in this, Crumbed blue cheese; which was weird at first but the creaminess of it is great with the Bacon Jam Vinaigrette. Dried cherries and walnuts give it sweet and nutty taste and chewy/crunchy textures. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the salad was NOT drowned in the dressing. Soooo Good! Lasagna was BIG. I ate one third of the salad and half of the lasagna (yeah lunch tomorrow) . Great sauce. Beautiful cheese on this. I ordered the House Pinot Grigio and it was perfect with the salad. Husband ordered the Chicken Siciliano. Nice portions of chicken with the Moigue Sauce on the side; and plenty of it. Husband said the chicken was cooked well. Enjoyed the amount of sauce he wanted on each bite and it didn't soak the breading. He chose the mixed veggies and recieved a good portion steamed zucchini, carrots, broccoli and summer squash. He wouldn't share! Be advised, plan your visit well. If you are coming with a crowd, call ahead. If they can they will set up a table for a group. This space is smaller than most Italian places but the food is very good so the wait is worth it. Andy was our server, he seemed well versed about all of the dishes, which was helpful. He's chatty so if you are not a talker, let him know. We are, and were pleased with his insight. It helped make our choices easier and we were satisfied. One small oops: Husband didn't get his soup. Not a major issue, all the food that was ordered was delicious and didn't disappoint. I doubt he'd have room for both portions of chicken had he had the soup anyway. Next time we're there I'm going for the Chef's burger. More Bacon Jam! I've seen a review that complains about the age of the new owner, calling him young. Not sure what 'young' means to that reviewer. Mr. Mowen is a well trained chef that's studied abroad, not a teenager out of culinary classes at the local Community College. His food is a fresh vision of old school classics. The decor is pleasant and gives a nod to old Italy with a modern flair. If I worked closer I'd come in for lunch daily. I was surprised when i walked into this place because i had been looking at the old pictures of the menu and thought this would be a more authentic Italian restaurant and that it had a salad bar. Apparently the menu and atmosphere has been updated. However, i was not disappointed by anything here except maybe the salad. I ordered the full-size manicotti because it came with the salad which made it only $3 more than the small plate with a salad. The salad wasn't that great, so next time I'll just do a small plate. The food is always consistently good and when you are in the mood for Italian this is a great option. I always order the pizza or manicotti. I get mine with palomino sauce though instead of sriarcha.) My niece adores 'mister Andy'! He's even dubbed her "Smalls" therefore when we come in -we're the 'Smalls family'. Lol! Ferlito's has been family owned and operated for almost 50 years. They have gone through some changes in the last few years, which I think were much needed. The place looks great!! The owner is really concentrating on bringing in more local brands, and food products! Great for anyone who is looking for fresh food with an amazing taste. I recommend giving them a try. They do offer Gluten Free options, kids menu, and smaller plate options. Call ahead for larger parties. Casual, cool ambiance that leaves you feeling welcomed. read more

A couple months ago I order a pizza to go (sooooo yummy) but it took a bit longer than it should. (They we're slammed so it is understandable) They apologized profusely and promised to make it right. As a semi-professional Italian-food-ologist, I've eaten at a lot of Italian places. I also usually shy away from any place with an open salad bar because I'm super judgey and I think they reside in low-quality joints. So Ferlito's had a high bar to hit. But Ferlito's has hit it. I keep coming back because they are consistent and tasty. This isn't super fancy Italian fare, just nice 'Friday Night Out With The Family' style food. The sauce is always good, the service is great... I keep coming back because I know I won't have any surprises here, even if they're busy. I came by myself on Valentine's Day (I know, it's sad) and had service and food like I would have any other night. I like to order off of their specials menu as I've never been disappointed. But if you're craving some Italian staple from the regular menu, you'll be happy too. It's just nice, good food. My inlaws usually go in with a coupon, but I'm fine to pay full price. 10 or more years ago this used to be an excellent restaurant with Sicilian type food. As a matter of fact I knew the owner and my friend who was from Sicily used to go there for food that tasted like home. Unfortunately in recent years this restaurant has gone downhill and my friend no longer owns it. Since the time he sold the place it isn't it all like it used to be. In my opinion the food has gone very much downhill in quality and the price has gone way up. For instance the veal parmesan that I used to love so much has more than doubled in price. Went on a Friday night and it was not too busy as we were seated right away. Staff was friendly and the place has a comfortable feel atmosphere.! I had the chicken Parmesan and my girlfriend had the Eggplant Parmesan. Both were very good and had lots of cheese. The bread was excellent and like that the entrees come with a choice of 2 sides. Much higher quality food compared to an Olive Garden and very decent prices. The pizza looked great and will be trying that next! Giving it 4 stars because in the middle of our meal since we were sitting by the window it was cold. My girlfriend asked for coffee and the waitress said a new pot was brewing. Well we finished eating and still never got the coffee. They never charged us so the waitress must have completely forgot. read more
