Reso for 4 at 6PM that allowed 2 hrs for dinner before the rest of our evening. Arrived promptly, seated directly, drink orders taken. 45 min later and realizing we had an hour and 15 min before we had to leave, still no drinks. I got up to go to the bar and cancel my cocktail and replace with wine (to have with dinner), and met the waitress coming from the bar with our cocktail order where I explained our dilemma. She ignored my change order and asked if I wanted wine also, explaining the bar was 'backed up with tickets,' and then took our dinner order. My pork chop 'medium to med-well' order was beautifully presented, yet came out blood red inside. My wife's Pumpkin Swordfish likewise beautifully presented came our raw inside, our guest's Wagu meat sauce over pasta looked like it was just dropped on the plate and was tough to eat because the meat was shredded into its muscle fiber and not ground like traditional meat sauce, and the fourth member also had a pork chop likewise raw in the middle. We left at our pre-determined end point with no time for wine with dinner like usual, or dessert. Despite the poor back of house performance, I left a generous tip because I waited tables through college, and it wasn't the server's fault, although she could have exhibited some empathy to our time crunch. Despite Fern's 'farm-to-table' bonafides, the bar and the kitchen are in my opinion not yet ready for prime time. read more

We came here for an early birthday dinner celebration. Eileen and I have birthdays one week apart so it's been a tradition for the last 10 years. The restaurant is west of US 1 away from the hullabaloo of clematis street. Free valet parking is offered. It was a cool night and predicted to be cold so we made reservations to sit inside. There were a few other tables occupied, but most of the action was out on the patio - a much more charming area -- by the lit heat lamps. I'd suggest you sit there if weather permits. The menu is not that extensive. We started by a sharing a small cheese board -- it had a few pieces each of 4 types of hard cheese like cheddar, etc. (I didn't catch the names rattled off by the server); surrounding a huge mound of red seedless grapes, a small dish of olives, a small chunk of honeycomb, and mini spoons of marmalade, a spicy sauce, and mustard. Two types of crackers came on the side. It was good but would have been bEtter with more cheese and an inclusion of a soft cheese (brie?) and/or a blue. We then shared a nice sized Bibb salad with Bibb lettuce, bacon bits, Gorgonzola, and tomatoes topped with a vinaigrette dressing. This was very good. And we also shared a scallop starter -- 2 seared scallops served over bok choy and hummus. Good but skimpy. Our friends had a fern salad to start -- lots of arugula and pears and cheese with a balsamic lemon vinaigrette dressing. Then they had Mac n cheese dish with pork belly. Pasta mixed with three cheeses and mushrooms with a crispy piece of pork belly on the side. This was very good. And also a Market Pizza with pears and cheese and garlic -- no sauce -- that was slightly sweet, but a good flavor. For dessert, we shared their s'mores. First time at Fern street! Walking in their courtyard had a beautiful graffiti mural area! We were greeted by the host who seated us right away. We ordered a South African bottle of wine, disappointing. Then we started with a honey comb charcuterie board that was excellent especially the honey! We then had a vegetable platter which was bland, and a mushroom dish that was primarily potatoes?! We also had the beef stew, not great. The staff was very friendly but this place was just ok. The empty area at the back of the courtyard and the small food truck hint that the establishment plans for an expansion. I do wish the Fern salad portion was larger for $17, or at least price it more fairly at $10 or so. Either way it was excellent & the produce was so fresh with an excellent dressing. We also had the hanger steak and small wood fired veggie medley side dish. Both were fantastic, especially the wood fired veggies. We wrapped up with the smores desert. Honestly it wasn't on par with the rest of the meal. It tasted like marshmallows and Hershey's chocolate. I'd expect a gourmet twist at a place this good. A very beautiful place in Downtown West Palm Beach: big indoor dining rooms, a nice outdoor patio, and a bar that is finally wide enough for you to eat on it! I love to cook, so I also like the fact that their kitchen is open: you always learn something new by watching them preparing and adorning the food! We were there on a Thursday after 9pm, and the kitchen was already closed, so we just ordered some wine. Our waiter was really good (sorry that I don't remember her name), and she loved to explained to us this restaurant's concept: "from farm to table", using only healthy ingredients, etc. (they also raise their own pasture!) It's a concept I personally love and support, and their dishes have interesting ingredients' combinations, but in my opinion none of this justifies their high prices. A pasta with just (undisclosed) "exotic" mushrooms was i.e. $28, and our wines (abut 4oz?) were $13. Sure, it's Palm Beach County and the place is located in Downtown WPB, where prices are usually expensive for the quality offered, but it's not worth for us to go back there again. Food was okay $95 for a 16oz ribeye with a sprig of rosemary as the only addition item on the plate no sides no salad just a 16oz slab of meat and a piece of fresh rosemary. The seafood risotto had 3 shrimp, 4 small clams and 2 chunks of white fish for $34 and it was mediocre. The server forgot our appetizer so no comment on that. The cannolis were very good. My recommendation is to eat before you dine here. Beer and wine only in case you were not aware. They take full advantage of the current food inflation prices but they do not deliver on the food preparation or wait staff service. read more

This is a great restaurant in many respects - great ambiance and architecture style, with art prints on the walls. Extensive wine list. Innovative food and dishes. Great quality ingredients used. However, the pricing is the only letdown - even though the dishes were innovative and high quality, it feels like the pricing is maybe about 10-15% too high. Especially given the portion sizes. The assorted mushrooms appetiser was good, as was the picanha steak main. However, the grilled fish was undercooked the first time, and barely acceptable the second time; so I'd skip the fish dishes if I were you. The reasonable priced menu is the happy hour; all wines by the glass are half price, and they also have BOGO $4 oysters, which were super fresh and MA origin. read more

I came here for a late dinner and had a very pleasant time. We love a small plates place so we can share a bunch of food so we got the Denver, baked brie, and halloumi salad. The waitress also brought us out a gift from the chef (pictured below) and it was insane! It's parsnips with roasted grapes, spiced goat cheese, balsamic, and a hazelnut crumble. What an inspired creation. All the beef comes from their own ranch and we swear that was the best cut of beef we've ever had. My only negative is that they have to put their pizzas back on the menu, whats the point of having that spectacular oven? My pasta dish small plate while looking simple was 4 star delicious. The tomahawk pork chop was well seasoned and perfectly cooked medium and could easily feed 2 people. The highlight was the cast iron s'mores dessert, truly the show stopper. We shared the meatball and the tuna appetizer. Both were adequately sized and very flavorful. We had a nice Basque white with the apps. For a main we shared the Cobia, served over mashed purple sweet potato. It was perfectly cooked and delicious. We also had the Brussel sprouts for a side. We really enjoyed our dinner here. By now, farm to table is a familiar concept for most diners, but it can feel a little phoned in sometimes. Not so at Fern St. The same ingredients pop up from dish to dish, which makes one think of a kitchen culture focused on the ingredients first and the delicious things that they can be turned into second. It was raining heavily the night we stopped in, so we were seated inside in a sparse, art gallery-esque space normally reserved for special events. It was nice, but I think we really would've enjoyed the leafy, romantic outdoor space, too. We started off with a fantastic bottle of Super Tuscan that was big, bold, and terroir-centric, with pepper, herbs, some funkiness, and more subtle fruit flavors of cassis and red raspberry. On to the food! The jumbo scallops were so fresh and flavorful, and we enjoyed the unique preparation. They were seared perfectly: soft and succulent on the inside, crispy on the outside. They came nestled in a little bed of hummus and chopped garden veggies: a curious combo, for sure, but the addition of the bok choy and (maybe?) cucumber and dill gave the dish a fresh summery vibe. The burrata dish was a delicious art project in and of itself: assemble little pieces of herb-spiced toasts with the creamy burrata and fresh arugula tossed in a tangy vinaigrette. The burrata itself was incredibly fresh. Burrata is of course a mild dish on its own, so the dressed arugula and toasts- which were rather salty - added some complementary pops of flavor. Fern st salad (arugula, pears, grapes, shallots, bleu cheese, balsamic, lemon vinaigrette)- simple but excellent. Always love the addition of a quality sharp cheese like shropshire. Wild Mushroom Pizza (wild mushrooms, caramelized onions, arugula, buffalo mozzarella, black truffle salt, garlic puree)- nothing wrong with this dish at all, and it was obviously super fresh and the crust tasted homemade. Even with all of these aforementioned flavors, though, I thought it could've had something to make it taste a bit more distinct. I wasn't quite wowed. read more

The art that is displayed all over the bar makes the place even more beautiful. You get a cool bar and a art gallery all at once. Bar tenders and people who go there are so fun and friendly! I liked Fern Street Wine Bar & Kitchen last time I went but this week I was disappointed - it's like everything I had was lacking in flavor. All my food was soulless and dull which made for a boring experience Perhaps the food was prepared with the cliched farm to table and sustainable ingredients - which is nice I guess but without taste and flavor the food and tropes are meaningless. The menu is limited and sometimes changes, and this visit we left unimpressed by the uninspired offerings. A Brussel Sprout entree was tired and as exciting as it sounds. The Maitake Pasta was nothing more than okay but at $28 for a small portion seemed excessive in price. A shrimp dish was presented like cat food and was not for us. Service was really excellent though and the outdoor dining area is simple but nice. read more

We had a lovely dinner at Fern Street on a busy Friday night. The service was fantastic! Our server was ver friendly and did an excellent job guiding us through the menu and making recommendations. We started with oysters which were very fresh tasting. The mignonette was the perfect accompaniment. We were lucky enough to arrive during happy hour and took advantage of the two-for-one special on these. We also had the Akaushi Denver as a starter. The beef was tender, flavorful, and the maitake mushrooms and wine reduction sauce were delicious. My only criticism on this dish was it wasn't hot - the mashed potatoes were Luke warm. For our entrees my husband had the flat iron roulade which he enjoyed, but he thought a pinch of sea salt would have really made the fish come alive. I had the Oishii Shrimp Risotto - delicious! The shrimp were nicely done and seasoned well. The risotto was sweet, with the roasted tomatoes adding a nice acidity. Overall, the restaurant had a nice ambiance and fun/artsy decor. read more

I feel equally as sorry for the artists who's art hangs on the walls of this cold restaurant. The concept is lovely, the execution is a fail. Very cold atmosphere between the modern art, extremely dim lighting, and cold seating. This has the making of a fab spot, but it needs a lot of warmth, soul, and SALT. read more

Great lunch or brunch spot for kids - they have a place to play within parents view and mom/dad can safely enjoy some cocktails. Staff is excellent. Super friendly and really love the farm to table vibe. The farm to table board is superb. But we gave it 3 stars for value. Could smell the brisket smoking from across the street. Could hardly wait. The brisket platter was meant to be a small plate but when it arrived, it was a disappointment. 5 very small paper thin slices of brisket, 1/3 of each slice was pure fat leaving little of the meat to enjoy. Reheated on a flat top doesn't have the same quality coming straight from the smoker. It was like beef chips. For $24. Nope. The fried chicken sandwich was a disappointment. It was a breaded, filleted chicken leg rather than breast meat. The result was a fatty unpleasant sandwich. Had to leave half of it. Both still hungry, we ordered a burger, cooked medium, to share. Unfortunately it arrived overcooked. We gave up after a few bites. Not the best day for the kitchen. :(. Will try again tho. read more

I was excited to go to a farm to table wine bar and from the photos this place looked trendy and like it could be a good time. I couldn't have been more wrong with my prediction. This restaurant was the most overpriced and disorganized restaurant with bad management, service and value, with the exception of Happy Hour wine which was good. I think the reason for the bad service was partially because the server was new, but we had several people that we engaged to try to help us. The restaurant was packed. There was 8 of us. Every single one of us had a problem with our food and or drink order AND at least 3 of us had errors on our bill to the restaurant's favor. They tried to charge us for non-happy hour drinks on some of the items when we specifically went there during happy hour. We almost did not have a chance to order a second round of happy hour drinks because it took forever for the server to come back around. She never inquired about our food. All our food came out at different times AND one person literally did not get a chance to order AND one person never received her food. So we sat around watching each other eat separately! Also, they charged us 20% tip automatically... THE FOOD: All 8 of us complained to each other about how salty the food was. Every single item was salted on the plate and drenched on top. It was overboard. We got a piece of grouper that wasn't even enough for 1 person. It came with a tiny bit of rice and 3 bites of squash. It was $38. The charcuterie board that a few of us ordered literally came with 3 grapes each, 3 tiny pieces of cheese (dime shaped) and about a half of teaspoon of honey!!! Too bad, I really liked their honey, but can I have more than that please? They gave a decent amount of meat, but the rest of the items were literally a joke because of how minimal it was. We also got BOGO oysters. It came with no cocktail sauce or horseradish. Very simple and not that good. We realized that almost none of the food that we collectively ordered was cooked. Just food placement. So why did it take that long? Our friend that did not get a chance to order was happy in the end because of our complaints and experience. Our friend that never got her meal canceled her order. The managers response was, "Oh I never got a ticket for it".... They did not offer any apology, or anything to make up for our collective awful experience. Thankfully we all like each other so we had fun anyways! I DO want to applaud them for their wine because we did all enjoy that. I would recommend this place ONLY for drinks and probably just go to the bar to avoid any service issues. The attitude of the manager however, makes me feel that I will not be returning even for their yummy wine. I have never disagreed more with the average review of a restaurant than I do than with this place. I learned that it has new owners. Price: I consider that their prices are reasonable for the quality of the place and food. We ordered 3 wines and 1 meat & cheese board for $64 plus tips. Atmosphere: One of the best! This wine bar is very big and you can sit either inside or outside. If you decide to sit outside, you can enjoy live music. If you decide to sit inside, you can have some privacy and a quiet environment. Recommendation: If the weather is nice you can sit outside and enjoy live music.
