This restaurant is a true mystery to me. My wife and I love the place and everyone associated with it. It is beautifully done, the ambiance is outstanding, the food is really good, very accessible, with plenty of parking, and it is reasonably priced. We go there for most special occasions (never the exact day of the occasion e.g. Mother's Day, but for the occasion), and are never disappointed. Fernando runs his restaurant his way- for his guests. He does not overbook, he does not tax the capability of his kitchen or serving staff, and accepts reservations that insures first class evenings for those who DINE there. You are never rushed to turn the table, and the noise level is low enough to actually allow conversation. I almost am hesitant to post this as I fear Yogi Berta's comment ("no one goes there any more, it's too crowded") might ruin my favorite secret. read more

Not impressed with the service , the staff, the food, the way the owner was belittling us to the 2 tables he had in the whole restaurant because we didn't call to confirm the amount of people. The owner is unresponsive to emails and calls to begin with as he is the cook, the waiter and the staff who runs the place. Not sure how this guy stays open. It was our 1st time there and the restaurant had a nice romantic setting, the ambiance was great, and the food was exquisite. There were at least (4) other couples having dinner at that time as well. Unfortunately, the owner Fernando spoke, fellowship, and entertained every couple in the restaurant besides my wife and me. From the beginning to the completion of our dining he never said a word to us at all. Is this the proper behavior of an owner? We're supporting his business, and he didn't have the audacity to even speak or welcome us to his establishment? What a shame. Could it be that our ethnicity (African American) was a criterion? Went here for my husbands birthday thinking it would be a nicer dining experience. My husband got a steak which came out more rare than the requested medium rare. I got the paella which wasn't anything fantastic either. What really ruined my experience was the attending staff. We were hoping for a nice, quiet evening, but the amount of times a man, who I'm going to assume was the manager/owner, came over, made my mood sour as the night progressed. He made comments multiple times about how my husband and I weren't talking enough which got old after the 3rd, 4rd mention? Sorry we're not talking at the top of our lungs to each other in a restaurant occupied by us and other elderly group of people. During the entire dinner, it was us (27 and 30) and an elderly group, which just goes to show how not many people choose to dine here anyway. He clearly didn't read our mood and didn't understand that we didn't understand the jokes? he was making. What a fantastic place! We went last night for our 33rd wedding anniversary. IT has a lovely quiet ambiance. The service was spot on and welcoming. Fernando came out to talk to us. Every morsel of food was devine: starting with the complimentary plantain chips, the empanadas, the succulent lamb chops and the amazingly delicious shrimp Fernando. Fried shrimp (4pc) with Angel hair pasta. Both excellent. Would have liked a vegetable. Desert, we couldn't decide between tres leches and chocolate bread pudding so he gave us a half slice of each. This is a hidden gem and amazing restaurant. We attended a birthday dinner for my sister-in-law and the food was fantastic. I had the Pollo Marsala and sampled my wife's Pollo Tropical (Pollo Tropical Achiote rubbed grilled chicken breast topped with artichokes, tomatoes and cilantro in a wine, lemon and butter cream sauce) and they were outstanding! I bought a groupon for this place and was not disappointed. I spent $80 on a four course dinner for four which would have been ~$220. The grouping was $99 but I used a 20% off local deals code that brought it down to about $80. I had been craving a good piece of lamb and saw this groupon. I decided to treat myself and 3 others and figured $20 per person was not bad for a fancy dinner. Keep in mind that tip and tax is ON THE TOTAL AMOUNT, not the groupon amount so you tip/tax on $220, this was a big complaint with the groupon but it clearly states it on the info details. Also, you MUST make a reservation ahead of time, they are closed Mondays and you must use the entire voucher in one visit, I say this in case anyone out there wants to use a groupon, Fernando's usually has groupons available. As far as the food goes, I loved the food there! I shared ceviche with my fiancé, had a caesar salad and ordered the lamb for my main course. My fiancé had a steak with a craw fish and avocado salad on top which was delicious! We shared a chocolate mouse cake for dessert which was delicious too. I was happy with the quality of the food, especially the cuts of meat which were as tender as could be! The service was pretty good too. They seemed to have half the restaurant open and only a hand full of severs but we got all of our food in a timely fashion. The server greeted us nicely and made a few jokes here and there which is always nice. Overall, it was a great experience with tasty food but be ready to pay a pretty penny if you are going without a groupon. The meal would have been $270 without the groupon and cost ~$100 with it. It was a nice treat though. TL/DR: Food was great, especially the lamb. Service was great but you have to call in advance to make sure they have seating. The enviroment was perfect for our anniversary dinner! Intimate and cozy considering its fairly spacious. The plantain chips with avocado/cilantro cream went perfect with the peruvian beer we ordered. We had the appetizer sampler and for entree the sirloin y mar. We were full but could not get enough of the steak! My husband ordered it medium-well and it was perfection. It had crawfish meat and avocado on top and as fusioned as that sounds it was by far the best steak I've had in the area. For dessert we had cheesecake and coffee. We don't dine at Fernando's very often, but when we do we always receive great food and service. The prices are somewhat high, but not Perry's high. For us, it's a great place for a date night and it's easy to get to. A very relaxing spot and perfect if you want a date night. This last visit was on Christmas Eve and fortunately I had made reservations. Starting off with the pandemic issues. There is hand sanitizer as you walk in. Tables are sectioned off. All employees were wearing masks and some were wearing gloves. We started off ordering salads. Both were extremely fresh and on a chilled plate. My wife ordered the lamb chops and I had the El Hefe (beef filet). Both dishes were excellent and cooked perfectly. My steak was very tender as a quality steak should be. Fernando served us and was very entertaining. He made sure our evening was going well and he went to other tables checking on them as well. My one and only complaint has nothing to do with Fernando's itself. A group of women sat at a table behind a wall and were extremely loud. We were on the opposite side of the restaurant and their laughing was loud and obnoxious. Every time a member of the party entered around the corner they would scream. There was one table next to us that had a young boy (3 or 4 years old) and he acted more civil than these adult women. Fortunately, the women got a little more quiet as they stuffed their faces. Fernando's is a great place for a date night on any day. The atmosphere is somewhat low lit and very stylish. It's usually not loud and they have soft music playing. WOW!! What a gem this place is. We brought our party of 11 - a supper club of 10 years. We've been to many restaurants in Houston and this is certainly one of the best. I was planning an event for 15 people and the owner was rude since the beginning at first I thought it was because he was busy but I went and talked to him another 2 times for the planning, and it was the same thing. When I sent an email to reserve the tables this guy took like a week to respond and when he did he told me to sign the proposal and send it back to him and I did it, again he took along time to reply so I called the restaurant and I asked to talk to fernando a guy named Carlos said that the owner wasn't there yet so I talked to him and he was extremely rude! That same day I called like at 6 pm I talked to the OWNER Fernando and told him that I sent him the signed proposal, he said that he didn't check his email, so I asked if a could go to the restaurant like in 30 min to pay the deposit and he said yes and asked me to take the proposal along with me so I did it and when I got to the restaurant he didn't even came out to talked to me. He sent he's waiter to tell me that he was going to be too busy for the day I was trying to reserve and I was mad because why wouldn't you tell me that on the phone when I called you 30 min earlier!! such a waste of my time and gas!! It took a long time to get menus and even longer to receive drinks (or even order drinks). The prices were a lot higher than we expected. But the food was really good! My husband ordered the steak and I had chicken masala. Everything was delicious. By the time dinner was over, our party was the only ones left in the restaurant (it was maybe 9:30 on a Friday night). We ordered the sampler platter for 2 and we got 2 of them. It was 52 dollars total for the appetizer and we didn't even get one whole empanada.
