Hubby and I spent three evenings in Ferndale and chowed down on pizza after he ran a local marathon...he was ready for some hearty pizza and we found it! My wife and I spent three days vacationing in Ferndale from Denver. The first night was Fathers Day and Ferndale Pizza was packed and overrun with to-go orders. Never mind...Kelsey stayed very upbeat during the rush and was equal to the best servers we've had. The provolone sandwich (with marinara added) was very tasty, our salads and dressings were top-notch and the spaghetti was perfect. The last day of our trip we went for lunch. We tried this place right when we moved to Humboldt about a year and a half ago on the recommendation of a local. It was just OK. definitely not "the best pizza ever" like our friend said it was. We later found Babes pizza near our house and it's really good pizza. We tried it again recently and it was better this time. We like Babes but it's a different style of pizza so you really cant compare them. Pizza Co isn't bad, it's just not what I prefer for pizza. PIzza Co pizza has good flavor but its a little more flat and soggy than I like. The salad bar options were a bit scarce too. I personally dont like salad dressing so I appreciate a good salad bar with lots of topping choices so I was stuck with a boring lettuce cheese and olive salad. I'm not saying dont go here, but I'm hardly ever in Ferndale and wouldnt make a special trip for Pizza Co. If you're there and want pizza, it's the place to go despite Guy Fieri skipping it. read more

However my only con is that the cheese is so thick and heavy, it doesn't hold to the pizza crust and can slip right off the top - taking all of your toppings with it! He was extremely gracious and made us what had to be the best pizza ever covered with shredded beef. This place has surprisingly authentic italian flavors. Their Meatball hero is as good as it gets. The bread they serve with dinner and use for sandwiches is fantastic and the same I get in some of my favorite spots in New York. The prices are even reasonable which is rare in Humboldt. Their pizza is not the best in California by any means but depending on the toppings it can be very good. My biggest complaint is their plain cheese pizza or 1 topping I would say has too much cheese if thats even possible. The pizza I enjoyed the most here was what they call the "cowboy" which is just all the meats you would find on a italian sub on a pizza. The pasta is very good. The pasta sauce is awesome. I have eaten at every italian restaurant and pizza place in humboldt and they have by far the best quality pasta for the cost. Big portions, great taste low cost. My favorite is the lasagna which isn't your typical perfectly stacked lasagna but it taste great and the ricotta and mozzarella cheese taste very fresh. I am unable to eat carbs due to a surgery I had recently, I made a request to have a crust less pizza. They were more than happy to make me one. Neither of us is big on pizza, so I ordered their meat ravioli while my wife chose the pastrami and cheese sandwich. She was disappointed with the bread (didn't taste fresh) on her sandwich, but the pastrami was good and plenty. My raviolis were excellent, and the sauce was pleasing to the palate as well. My wife ended up transferring the pastrami from her sandwich to my french bread, and then she was happy. Your options in Ferndale are limited, and it's not a town where I'd say that in my decades of frequenting it that I've ever had "great service" or "good service," or even "mediocre service." In general, whenever I'm in Ferndale, it's like they're doing me a favor by maybe being open when their hours say they will be and deigning to take my order and could-I-please-just-not-have-come-in-the-first-place-thanks-bye. All this to say, Ferndale is not a town I go to for 1) many options, or 2) good service. So imagine my surprise when this little pizza place on the corner was not only open when it said it would be, but had delightful service and pretty darn good pizza. It's a thicker crust style-- standard pizza flavors, and quite good! My fam had a 1/2-and-1/2 of two heart-stopping meat varieties of pizza, and they made a personal pan size for me vegetarian, which was great! We had the cheesy bread starter--which is really just garlic bread toasted with cheese, but was quite good. And honestly, I can't over-emphasize how actually surprising it was to have friendly and attentive service. My one complaint is their truly sad salad bar. Like, I was sad for it, and it was sad for itself. If they stepped up the salad bar, I'd be here every visit! read more

My dining partner ordered the salad bar- pizza bar combination and was happy with her meal. We went here on a Tuesday and had the lasagna special for only $5.00. The service was really good but the lasagna and bun it came with were the best! I was looking for some place in the area to get pizza since my bf doesn't like round table... I yelped for pizza places in the area and this one came up with the best reviews. I now know why. =) I was surprised that it was too pricey. 25.00 for a large pizza with three toppings and a salad bar to go. When I got there, I loved the atmosphere, and the girl that was working the counter was super friendly. ( I thought it was ironic that I saw the manager of the Fortuna RT eating there, this place must be good ;) I went to make my salad and took a look at the salad bar and was in love lol. Everything looked really fresh. They had home made garlic croutons, chopped up green olives, and some fresh mozzarella to name a few of the tasty items. Got the pizza home, and opened the box and all I could see was CHEESE. Ton of toppings and the crust was delicious. I am looking forward to possibly having it again this weekend. YUM! read more
