I have to leave a negative review for this place, as my second time visiting here I thought it would be a great place to invite my fellow healthcare workers to come out and enjoy life after working through a pandemic. Sadly I didn't think it would end with us being refused service bc the color of our skin. Long story short one of us was told we were being refused service - no reason given upfront. The second time we tried to order drinks, we were told by the server that the manger had notified the server we were not allowed to be served. At this point, we simply asked "why not?" We were only told "my manger told me not to serve you." We simply asked to them ask to speak to the manager to verify why we were no longer being served after only 1 round of drinks and no food yet ordered. The manager on duty 06/06/2021 then came to our table and stated lie after lie about us supposedly being unruly (a table of 3 minority first responders minding their business, enjoying a day off) is simply shocking to me. I explained that I being in the industry previously to healthcare had noticed we were never even told that we were a burden to the servers or other guests. We were told to leave the establishment. Without explanation, no warning, we were suddenly told that we had to leave. So sad that this white supervisor in duty could not handle the situation in a more professional way. Long story short, it would be nice to have a warning as a table if we are upsetting employees in any way, and in my opinion we were a group of moms/healthcare workers doing no wrong and caught completely off guard. read more

Wonderful servers and a laid back, neighborhood joint with the addition of tasty food (the pate and arugula salad was quite good) makes this place an obvious choice for so many reasons. This is a place you would go for a great casual vibe and food is good, (not appetizers bland and too basic pub) but salads and burgers were really good. Have been here twice now, the drinks are all pretty good with good selection, but the food was disappointing for me. I've had the crusty cauliflower, the happy hour potatoes, and the Vegan burger with fries. The happy hour potatoes and cauliflower were fine, the cauliflower was especially disappointing and so incredible dry. The burger on the other hand was bad all around, a bunch of random things on there like bread and butter pickles and vegan aoili which was a weird combo. The veggie patty was so incredibly dry as well, just like the cauliflower. Astonishingly dry, couldn't even finish it. Flavor profiles in all directions. The waffle fries were good though. I was really hoping for something fantastic to replace the South Park bar and grill those few years ago. I have been to the firm side twice and both times was pretty disappointed. I do have high standards but for the price being charged I think I deserve a friendly waiter and thank you at the end of the evening... i'm always a big tipper but just couldn't do more than 20% this time. I have tried the veggie po boy and the vegan burger and I honestly can't decide which is better. Ran around the area on Saturday night and ended up here for food and cocktails. Sat down at the window because everything else was full. I ordered the pizazz which sounded like it had potential but it didn't hit the mark. It had shrimp, ham, turkey, cheese and lettuce. Weird combo overall. I get what they were going for but was just disappointed. My boyfriend got the burger which he loves but he removed the sauce and cheese so it was basically) pickles, meat and bun. It was also really loud in this place with everyone's conversations in your ear so that was kind of annoying. It was neat to check out though. Came to Fernside for a Sunday brunch after hearing good things. Pictures of all the food looked delicious so we were excited to check the place out. The staff was all very happy and friendly. Place is very inviting and seemed genuinely happy to have us there. We got our drinks very quickly and the food also came out super fast which was great because we were starving I was a bit underwhelmed with the food. It was ok, but fell short of the expectations left by everyone that we talked to that came before. I want to give them 5 stars really bad but feel the true 3 stars mixed with the 5 star want is where I get my 4 stars. Still not bad, right? The tap list was great and the food options were nice too. Our cauliflower was cold on the inside and I mentioned this but said it was okay because we were starving. I then later got a beer that was not what I asked for and was just curious what I was drinking. I mentioned this to the server and we went through the options of what it could be but I pulled up all of beer my beer posts from previous rounds I had on Facebook and we discredited each option. The end result was I don't know but I do know it was $7 regardless. I had a good experience as usual but typically if someone gets cold food and beer they didn't actually order they don't pay for them or at least someone says, "sorry." Right? In the end I asked for our tab and got our whole table's tab which we paid for keeping with the trend. We got there a full hour before our other 2 additions and didn't plan to pay for theirs too. Drinks: aperol spritz 5/5, lemongrass 5/5. Both were EXCELLENT brunch cocktails. Food: biscuits and gravy (no chicken) 4.5/5, really tasty but egg masked some of the flavor. Presentation of it isn't great but don't let that deter you. Also has some sweetness to the gravy, was a surprise but still very good. 3/5 big ole breakfast burrito, nothing to write home about. Large serving so that's nice. Doesn't come with potatoes or anything else however. Service: 5/5, our waitress was very friendly and made sure we had water and such at all times. Omg their brunch... so good. You know when you go to some breakfast places and the plate is full of potatoes or decorative fruit that you won't eat? Yeah this is NOT that place. The food is flavorful and filling, the ambiance is like a 90s house that is accepting and loving towards everyone. Cleanliness is also a huge priority to me personally, especially where I eat and the Fernside team keeps it 100. The issue with businesses around South Park is standards in quality and cleanliness. Fernside is so chill and always my go to place around South Park. For sure try the biscuits and gravy with fried chicken and the big ole burrito. Wanted to check out a cute not so PB bar. Headed here with my mother and was sorely disappointed. We ordered a salad and my mother a burger and fries. The burger was good but the fries were room temperature. After requesting new fries they gave us hard as nails fries that were hot but over cooked. The service was poor. It felt like it hurt him to be genuine and nice. He was painfully cordial. The drinks were good. Food was basic and the service was questionable. Great spot! Love the vibe, with Zoolander was playing on the tv, a great beer list, and delicious food, it was a perfect Sunday night spot. If you're lucky enough the manager will recite all 50 US presidents, I mean, that is something special. I've already been here three times (I live down the street), and this place is going to be dangerous! Delicious cocktails and food at a very reasonable price. All unique labels I've never heard of, but really really good. I love the rosé and the gruner, haven't tried any reds yet. Food: I'm slowly working my way through the menu, and man it doesn't disappoint. Love the chop salad, like love it! The Fernside Burger I've already dreamt about it and am ready for another. The dry rubbed wings are delightful! I'm sure they will be overly critiqued because of the old SP Abbey, but I never went because that place was nasty! Vibe: Love the open air feel and brightness. Was excited that a cocktail bar opened in the neighborhood. Kind of a classy sports bar to a degree. Their drinks are different, while having some of the classics. I recommend a Mr.Robinson (peanut butter bourbon!). As for the food, the Half Pounder was on point. I'd recommend the waffle fries be homemade vice from the frozen section but still satisfying either way. The only reason for not receiving 5 stars was the service. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since they just opened and it was busy but the waiters need to have some professional training. One waiter chatted with a table for 5+mins ignoring other tables. It's nice to have a personable waiter but a good waiter should be able to read the room realizing the Resturante is busy requiring their attention. I will mention that the hostess recognized the waiters shortfall and was trying to help. I will definitely be returning and will provide an updated review hopefully with another star!! Ps. A welcome addition to our South Park neighborhood. We tried it on a busy night but the service, drinks, and food were excellent. The Apple Martini has got to be my favorite of any I've tried. It was fresh tasting and more like a real apple, light and refreshing for a martini. I tasted the the Pointy Boots with tequila and the Dance Hall with Rum and Coconut. The bartender does a fabulous job of inventive and tasty, the menu scared me at first, however the flavors are spot on and not weird. We tried several things and shared to get a variety. We Loved the Halloumi cheese appetizer, the Buffalo Cauliflower had a great crunch, the Sweet Potato Rolled Taco had excellent flavor. The Vegetarian Burger was an interesting combination of Beet and Chickpea. I enjoy a different type of veggie patty. So plenty of vegetarian options and excellent drinks make this a place that I am excited to return to. read more

We were in San Diego for a short visit. Just a weekend, but somehow we ended up here twice. Perhaps it had something to do with the closeness to where we were staying or the fact the prices were amazing for the quality of food. For me this is a foodie-on-a-budgets dream spot. The atmosphere is very neighborly and I like that when I'm traveling. There were babies and doggies here. That screams family friendly. For the first visit we had dinner. I don't eat sugar and that can get pretty annoying because I have to ask what is in damn near everything. The staff was so accommodating and friendly. They didn't make me feel bad about it at all. They even remade my drink order when the first came out with tonic instead of soda water. Very friendly staff and they were very attentive too. (keep reading food reviews below) The next day we decided to go for brunch. Again, the prices were the best for the quality of food. This time I had a gin Bloody Mary and downed it like it was a pre-workout smoothie. SO good! So GOOD! Brunch: 5/5 Citrus Salad - shared by table. So refreshing. 5/5 Biscuits and Gravy with egg and fried chicken - I lived in the south for years. While this was not traditional southern style B&G it was so good I didn't want to stop eating but had to because I was getting so full. 5/5 Shrimp and Grits - my partner had this. Again, not traditional southern style grits, but I'll take these over traditional any day of the week. They were so good I wanted to do that thing where you trade mid meal. I also got to taste our friends food and everything was just amazing. Dinner: 5/5 Soup Du Jour - this day it was a tomato soup that was where all adults need to end up when eating tomato soup. 5/5 Grilled Cheese - yes, I sure did this...who doesn't want to do tomato soup and a grilled cheese all with your more refined adulting tastebuds?! Overall, there isn't a bad thing I have to say about this place. Kid friendly, pet friendly, excellent food, good music, happy environment...all likes. Stumbled in here during the South Park walkabout with a few friends for a drink. Some of the pros: THE WAFFLE FRIES: Damn. Just damn. We take our chik fil a waffle fry loyalty extremely seriously but I had no problem of being guilty of infidelity. They were crispy, seasoned perfectly, and massive. They weren't on the menu as a side but I asked for them anyway and was so glad I got the mega side portion. Decor: This restaurant catered to my extreme ADD. The set up is really cool with open window seating so you can watch all the neighborhood dogs pass by. There was also a bar area with big TV sets playing various sports games. Draft cocktails: I have a love/hate relationship with draft cocktails. I always think a draft cocktail sounds good in theory and then I end up with a watered down glass of sugar water. Their draft gin and tonic was notably tasty with rosemary garnish in a wine glass and wasn't devoid of any gin. Someone in our group ordered their nitro negroni on draft and it tasted like it would kick your a**. That would not have been my drink of choice but he really enjoyed it. Regular cocktails: We also shared a Pointy Boots and Cobra clutch. Both of these were solid cocktails that were not too sweet or syrupy. Don't order the cobra clutch unless you like the smokey taste of mezcal. Service: Our server was awesome even though it was jam packed and she seemed responsible for the whole bar area. The cons were there were not a lot of options to eat. I would say this place is predominantly a bar but I think more people would stay and eat if there were more appetizer options. I.e. advertising the side of fries or having more gluten free options! It could be as easy as adding gluten free chips or pita for the spreads, or a gluten free hamburger bun or bread. read more
