Thanks to my recent visit to Royal, I am no longer a virgin (to a Northshore Roast Beef) anymore!…read more I am a Northshore native but amazing enough only became privy to Northshore Roast Beefs a few months ago. I never realized that it was "a thing." Thank you to Micheal "The Real" Imondi at his YouTube channel for getting me privy to this succulent Sammie. IYKYK. If you don't know -I tell ya: A Northshore Roast Beef is an onion bun and sliced rare roast beef with James River BBQ Sauce and mayo and an American cheese slice. The Sammie is often called a Super Beef or a King Beef here at Royal. The BBQ sauce is applied wicked heavy doody whereby the Sammie is lambasted with a huge bolus of sauce blopped on top and then the top bun is put on. It's a big boy and sloppy AF one. Royal is a scrappy little joint and shows her wears of many years of hangry eaters. The staff was nice, and they know their stuff. This beef was melt-in-your-mouth and sliced thinly AF -merely a few femtometers in thickness. This Sammie was epic. And it's the real deal here. Unique despite its simplicity. It's a pricey puppy at 16 bucks for the King Beef. Worth every penny. Five stars here, bro. Peep it out, YELPERS! See you all in the Noth Shaw !!! NOTE: A legit NRB MUST have a mile-high pile of roast beef. CORRECTION: This review is for the Stoneham location and not the East Boston location.

Both were so good, we ordered a second order of the shrimp as we had devoured the first so quickly. Overall, the meat was good, which is what you hope for at a Brazilian steakhouse. The lamb is always a hit, but the steak was also nicely cooked and perfectly salted. However, some of the items at the buffet bar were underwhelming and didn't quite match the quality I've experienced before. The cheese bread was cold, and the fried yucca lacked flavor. A few other buffet items also felt like they had been sitting out for a while. The total came to about $135 (before tip) for what we ordered, which felt steep given the food quality and overall experience. In hindsight, I wish I had asked for an itemized receipt to better understand how everything was priced. Service was mixed. The guy carving the meat was excellent and definitely a highlight, but beyond that, the service was pretty meh. All things considered, I'd probably skip the East Boston location next time and head back to Oliveira's in Somerville, where the food and service have consistently been better. At this price point, I might even opt for Fogo de Chão instead.

One half hour later, our waitress finally came to take our order after walking back and forth ignoring us for that 30 minutes. When our waitress took our orders, there was no apology for the long wait either. The food we ate was good, but not worth the wait. The portions were generous, and I couldn't finish mine. One sis ordered lobster roll with slaw, pickles and fries. She found it to be underwhelming, particularly the texture. I had the Dryft cheeseburger covered in caramelized onions and fries as a side. It was a big burger, well cooked, and I deconstructed it, to have less bun. The plentiful onions were a nice addition, and I liked the fries. The other sis ordered chicken under a brick, which was a fried boneless chicken breast under mashed potatoes, chicken jus, and brussels. She substituted asparagus for the brussels. Sis was highly satisfied with her whole meal and ate it all. Our host had a salad, but I didn't catch which one. It was large, not particularly noteworthy, and she didn't finish it either. The place was really noisy, which made conversation difficult. One other thing I noticed: all the female staff were wearing very short black skirts or shorts while the male staff members wore long black pants. I didn't inquire about a dress code or uniform, but it seemed sexist to me.

It also happened to be a convenient coincidence that I moved within walking distance nearly two decades later and there's no excuse at this point to not make a visit. Let's just say expectations were high. We (party of two) put our names down at 6PM on a Friday night, and were told that there were two parties ahead of us and that they don't have a policy of handing out potential wait times. We took a lap around the block and ended up waiting until ~7:30PM to get seated at a nice table along the window. There were only a few tables, and it looked as though there were some larger parties in the room (a party of ~8 and another party of 15), and so that maybe contributed to the longer wait time. We ordered a 1/2 order of the scallops limoncello, followed by the chicken parm and the lobster ravioli. Everything tasted great, although I will say that it was maybe a touch on the saltier side. It wasn't off-putting and made it inedible, but might have been just a bit salty nonetheless. It was a bit cramped, but the energy was good and the wait staff were super friendly. When I was about to ask for the check, the waitress somehow convinced me to get the amaretto cake, which was honestly a great choice to end the meal with. Overall, the food was really great, and a bottle of Chianti for $30 for a sit-down meal in a restaurant is honestly a steal in this economy. Not sure if I would come back to dine-in given the long wait, but I would consider take out.
