We had a reservation at Fiction and arrived right on time. The host staff was friendly, and we were seated quickly, which set a great first impression. Unfortunately, service slowed down quite a bit after that. It took about 30 minutes for our waitress to take our order, nearly an hour before our water glasses were refilled, and roughly another 30 minutes after ordering for the food to arrive. What made it more noticeable was that the restaurant did not appear very busy, and some tables seemed to be helped faster than others. That said, once the food showed up, it absolutely delivered. The wagyu burger was excellent. Perfectly grilled, fresh vegetables, and a bun that was toasted just right on the inside. The fries were crispy, hot, and clearly made with care. Everything came out at the ideal temperature. The turkey sandwich was another standout. Generous with the meat and full of flavor. Paired with the tomato bisque, it made for a comforting and satisfying meal. The bisque itself was creamy, rich, and exactly what you want alongside a sandwich. The ambiance is worth mentioning too. Slightly dim lighting, good background music, and a beautifully stocked bar create a relaxed, upscale atmosphere that feels great for a date night or an easy evening out. Overall, Fiction delivered where it mattered most: the food and the setting. If the service moved a bit quicker, the experience would have easily felt top tier. Just had dinner with friends at Fiction at Bookwalter. I had the duck breast. It was overdone and dry and the veggies were also overdone. My husband had the halibut with gnocchi. The gnocchi was dense and tough. Very disappointed with the meal. It was also very loud. We had to shout at the other couple at our table just to carry on a conversation. read more

My favorite place in the Tri-Cities! You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The food is amazing, the drinks and wine are great, and we've had a fantastic experience every time we've been here--which is probably around 10 visits in the last year. Sundays are an even better deal since the food and drinks are discounted. The service is always excellent too. We've had several different servers, and every one of them has been friendly and welcoming. Fiction gets an A+ for food, service, and atmosphere. Everything about Fiction is so cute and so perfect! Fiction at J Bookwalter is one of a few places to check out in a row of winery/restaurants. They have plenty of parking if you're driving and a spacious indoor and outdoor venue space. The restaurant area has multiple dining rooms that are all beautifully decorated. There's also an outdoor event space that would be perfect for a wedding ceremony. The space is modern, romantic and so cute. On a weekday afternoon, there weren't too many folks there, so we had a whole room to ourselves. It was such a relaxing lunch! Service was very attentive and the food came out so quickly. We ordered both the wedge salad and the fish and chips. Food here is SO good. The wedge salad was so fresh and the crispy bacon was perfection. The dressing was so flavorful and huge! Even as an entree, it could have easily been split across two people. The fish and chips were also incredible. Huge chunk of fish with the crispiest fries. We are members here and Wine here does not disappoint! Let's talk food. Pizza here is outstanding! In my opinion one of the best. We had the chicken and pesto pizza. Pesto pizza had the right about of pesto and wasn't over powering with vegetables. From what my son mentioned chicken pizza was full of chicken which I guess isn't a bad thing. Caesar salad well it fell more like a shredded caesar salad. Lettuce was so diced up hard to eat. Marci was our server who was sweet but busy. There was a leg in service but it was ok since there was a live jazz band performing and we had a nice bottle of wine to keep us company. Atmosphere's was great, the deco at fiction was awesome, gave a barn feel, with nice furniture and deco and delicious wine. J book switched their reservations portal and as members we were not notified and their website was not update. So when we walked in we were told there wasn't a reservation for us until I showed them the online reservation to which the girl at the front desk bluntly informed me I used the incorrect site, to which I responded and showed her the site wasn't updated. After 7min of back and forth we were seated and as members you would think we would be seated without any hesitation given the place was not fully booked. Apart from this experience, overall love J book food and wine. We did go tasting at the tasting room the next day and Mike was amazing. He is so well versed on wines and recommendations! read more

The environment is beautiful but the food is not good. I had the scallops and they were only seared on one side, the sauce was mediocre at best. The mushroom appetizer is on a pastry that was raw and doughy. Duck breast was chewy. Coconut rice is good but boring. It's rice with carrots and coconut, pea puree is too sweet and unbalanced. Pork chop was overcooked but had decent flavor. The yellow rice with the pork tastes like drywall. The slaw was okay. We left everything on the table. Go for the scenery and maybe try the pizza. Beautiful setting, great wine -- and disappointing food. Up until the last few years, Fiction was our favorite place to dine. We had dozens of meals here between 2011-2020. The restaurant consistently served the best food in the Tri-Cities and was our go-to place to take guests. But our last few meals have been really disappointing. We were there over the weekend and two of us had salads (quinoa with chicken; Caesar). They were each close to $30 and just not that good. It's possible to serve up an interesting salad at a high end restaurant (more casual places like Frost Me Sweet, Lulus and The Social all serve better salads.) Others in our party had the chicken and the duck and were equally disappointed. And our favorite appetizer, the avocado fries (a Bookwalter classic that we've enjoyed for years) is now $20. The prices keep going up but the quality keeps going down. We're sad to be crossing Fiction off our list. read more
