The service was good and the restaurant was clean. The food on the other hand wasn't great. I got the brisket, which was sliced very thin and then apparently heated up so it was extremely dry. Fiddler's has been excellent food and service. The BBQ, fried catfish, and fried chicken were all excellent- flavorful and fresh. The young red headed gentleman stocking the buffet was doing a great job stocking it with fresh food. The price was excellent for what you got. Desserts are extra, but I'd rather eat the real food anyway. I hope they continue their buffet, because they are getting more rare each year. I highly recommend Fiddler's. read more

Food was ok. Wasn't the best but certainly wasn't horrible. Was disappointed that the potatoes were instant and not real mashed potatoes. Live music was nice! Server was hard to get ahold of and seemed annoyed when we needed our check. I'll probably give them a second chance to see if it was just an off night. read more

The inside was nice and looked clean. They had a lot of different items to look at from train letters to hats. We had burgers. I had the mushroom Swiss one. I don't remember the exact name but It was really good. My daughter had the kids cheeseburger and she liked it too. Coffee was eh. But I didn't expect much. The server was there if we needed her. Cute place right off of the highway. We stopped in just for dessert, since we'd previously eaten dinner. The first two desserts we wanted weren't available so we settled for a brownie sundae type of thing and pumpkin pie. It was awful, that was literally the worst pumpkin pie I've ever had. Cheap, generic pumpkin with a weird texture and drowned in allspice. My husband could barely choke down his sundae as well. Same reason, the food tasted super processed and generic. Felt like a fool paying $20 something dollars for garbage. But on the flip side, it's a really cute place with a cute little shop and the waitstaff were all very pleasant. read more

Well, I have been here many times while this place was a Shoney's and I like it and after the name changed and updating the place I went back to try out the new "Fiddler's" and IMO they should've just stayed Shoney's and made the updates they needed. this new change did not impress me at all. I'm glad I tried it once but I won't return a second time. My wife and I got the bar at $15.99 a piece and it really didn't have much to choose from unless you wanted salad alone .they had fried chicken, fish, bbq and i think that was it as far as meats go but they were either cold and dry or cooked to long. it was in the evening on Sunday9/10/23 and they didn't replenish the bar either with new food. service was ok, the young lady was nice and came to check on us numerous times, there was a weird young boy that kept pacing by our table the entire time we were there and it really got on my nerves. but anyway, as I stated, I'm glad I checked it out because I know now that I won't be back and if you go, well I hope your time there is way better than mine. read more

My husband and I ate here on a Monday. Cute enough place. Food is no good. It's as if they took the cheapest ingredients they could find slapped it on a plate with no seasoning so that it could be called what it was supposed to be. I ordered "loaded chicken Alfredo", came with a side salad that was iceberg lettuce three cherry tomatoes a bit of cheese and croutons-the ranch dressing was very good. On the menu, the Alfredo was loaded because it came with mushrooms and broccoli. Mine however had no mushrooms and uncooked broccoli chunks thrown on top. Chicken was tasteless sauce was bland and pasta wasn't cooked correctly. The garlic toast had garlic on it and was very tough to chew. Husbands pork bbq was full of fat, unseasoned greens and deviled eggs with no flavor. We both had tea nothing to brag about and a total bill of $35. Totally not worth it! Was visiting Hillsville two weeks ago. Had gone to Shoney's there for decades. Decided to try Fiddler's. Went in and stood behind another couple waiting for dinner seating. Restaurant was less than half full. There was a cashier. The other couple (the only people in line) who told us "we've been here 5 minutes and haven't even been acknowledged." Decided to look at menu and reached for one next to cashier station. Cashier snapped at us "the senior menu isn't available tonight ". Bizarre. We weren't asking about a senior menu. We got back behind original couple who was still waiting. We waited another ten minutes and NO ONE in line to be seated was acknowledged or seated. Stopped in in Hillsville, VA at the end of a long day's drive and was told that Fiddler's had been open for a few weeks. It seemed to be a better option than the usual fast food eateries - I was wrong! My dining companion and I were "greeted" by the hostess and told that there would be a 25 minute wait (the restaurant was more than 50% empty with enumerable empty seats, booths, 2-tops). We waited, hoping against hope that the meal would be worth the wait - wrong again! I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes, gravy, and collard greens, My companion ordered spaghetti with meat sauce and a side salad. After a significant wait, our food arrived. My meatloaf was a large portion, but primarily breadcrumbs - bland and lacking any hint of savory goodness. It was served luke warm. The collard greens also lacked flavor, being boiled beyond recognition also served tepid! My mashed potatoes were decent. My companion's spaghetti sauce was good, but served cold with overcooked pasta. Her salad was brought out halfway thru the meal with no dressing. If you favor tasteless food served at room temperature you should rush right over to Fiddlers as they may not be around for long! read more

Fiddler's Restaurant was so good today! We are driving through to South Carolina and wanted something other than the usual fast food choices. First impression kept me in the storefront area with the handcrafted items for sale. I love seeing local craftsmanship available to the public. The prices were great knowing the time and materials that go into American- made products! We were so happy with our food order! The server, Kat, was so friendly and accommodating to my son's food allergies! This restaurant has gluten- free pasta and meatsauce that he just gobbled up! She gave him a side of fresh fruit as a substitute for the garlic bread. The pineapple was so fresh and delicious! It made the perfect dessert for him! My husband ordered "The Kevin" and said it was so much better than going to fast food! It had sliced roast beef, provolone, tomatoes, and grilled onions and was on sourdough! And there's a great salad bar! Wished I took my phone in (it was charging) to take a picture of the "fries". They were so so addicting! Sliced and fluffy - I'd never seen any like them before! They did have a wheat batter coating, so my son couldn't eat them, but the rest of us enjoyed them thoroughly! The family enjoyed looking around the restaurant decor at the music history on the walls and at the tables. I noticed artwork and stained glass wall art for sale too! May 6, 2023. 5:45 PM. I had the pimento patty melt and paid an extra $2 for the fries. The meal took forever & people who were seated quite a bit after us got their meals way before ours. We had a starter of onion petals which were decent. My patty melt was also good. However the fries were absolutely cold. I would have sent them back but the waitress was nowhere to be found until we were about ready to leave. My wife had the catfish which was barely above room temperature & her side vegetable was cold. The coffee I had was some of the bitterest I have ever had...think of that stuff you get in a cheap motel room...yuck. The bill came to over $42 and we got nothing taken off at all even after I stated all of the above complaints...not even a free brownie or some sort of compensation. I am not a fussy food snob & like local greasy spoon type restaurants but I definitely will not be back to this one. I heard a couple next to us tell their waiter that they had waited so long for service that if their food wasn't out in another minute they were leaving (and they left). They had lots of staff everywhere so I don't know what the problem was. You only get one chance to make a first impression and mine was a negative one! read more
