Paleta loko
Annelise M.

Y'all. San Antonio has the BEST refresquarias, and this is one of them!!! First of all, things I loved about it: right off of the trails which is absolutely perfect for a mid ride biking snack! Also, it's just so cute!! See my pictures to see what I mean. It has a stand alone building with its sign and different flavors of paletas (all homemade and such a variety to choose from)! Then the little truck outside and the patio tables. Looooved the whole vibe of it. When I saw the different paletas and snacks on the side of the truck I knew I had to try the paleta loco just from the picture!!!! It is a lime paleta (You can actually choose different paleta flavors if you want) topped with chamoy and chili powder/tajin and underneath are HOMEMADE ICE BOX PICKLES!!!!! Seriously y'all, I felt like a kid again eating this dessert because my dad would always make ice box pickles in the summer and it reminded me of that plus the drippy delicious paleta.... the whole thing was a true joy. My husband got the mangonada, delicious and huge too! My only regret at this place... that I didn't try the snacks! But don't worry, I will be back here again next time we come to San Antonio! It's a gem!!!

Enjoying some yummy treats on this hot day!

This place gave me all the feels from an old school ice cream shop. So refreshing compared to modern day places. We went back a couple more times in the few days we stayed in San Antonio! This shop sells fudge, truffles, candied apples, and - what I came for - ice cream! They had a lot of ice cream flavors to choose from, a least a couple dozen. The smiling young woman working behind the ice cream counter offered to give tastes, but I had already figured out which flavors I wanted. I chose two scoops in a cup, one of Cappucino Chip and the other Turtle Cheesecake. They have several tables to sit at, some along a hallway and more in a back room. I took a seat and was in awe of the huge scoops given. The Cappuccino Chip had a mild flavor (I prefer it stronger) but a fair number of tiny chocolate chips. The Turtle Cheesecake had an excellent cheesecake flavor with swirls of caramel, praline pecans, and caramel-filled mini turtles. I'm usually not fond of nuts in my ice cream but I actually enjoyed the pralines. In my humble opinion, there were too few turtles. But I still loved it. If you're in the mood for a cold, creamy treat while visiting the Alamo, you'll find this to be the perfect place to visit.

Despite my thoughts being scattered, a worker by the name of Josh made it all worth the while with his amazing, and quick service. He was very intuitive, and even gave us a couple of his suggestions on what he thought was good, which I appreciated as it was my first time there. My husband was able to enjoy the atmosphere while waiting for his ice cream, which led to calm evening that shortly followed. I'll definitely be back!

The real issue came at the cash register. The woman handling payments was, unfortunately, not kind at all. In fact, "rude" would be the most generous description. It actually took my wife about ten minutes just to complete the payment for a couple of ice creams, which felt longer than the ice cream itself took to melt. What made it even more uncomfortable was watching how she interacted with other employees. It wasn't just unprofessional--it was the kind of scene you'd expect in a low-budget psychological thriller where you start wondering if someone should call for backup. So while the ice cream itself and the front-line staff were great, the overall experience was overshadowed by the atmosphere at the register. Small, crowded, and unkind is not a combination that brings us back. We'll pass next time.

A second one because the pistachio was great. What I like most about this location specifically is where it's located because if you're on a lunch break or you just had dinner, you're just out for a walk. There's no wrong time to enjoy quality ice cream especially in San Antonio. Given that it's broiling hot 75% of the year. I had a great experience in the quaint ice cream parlor if you can still call it that it's definitely the kind of place. You should stop in to see what kind of flavors they have for sampling or in my case literally enjoy it ice cream so good. You can't help it have it twice

My vote for best ice cream in San Antonio? Lick Honest Ice Cream!…read more This location is inconspicuously tucked away in the Hemisfair District, in a tiny, cute building on a corner. There is no seating inside but a couple of tables sit outside. I think I counted 16 unique flavors when I visited. The cordial woman doing the scooping kindly offered tastes but my ice cream radar had already zeroed in on my choices. I chose chocolate orange and caramel salt lick. In a cup. I took a seat outside and was in heaven. Both scoops were so creamy and had bold flavor. The caramel salt lick perfectly describes it - salty caramel flavor. Have you ever had those chocolate oranges that seem to appear on store shelves around Christmas time? That's exactly how the chocolate orange ice cream tastes. But better. They have a couple of locations around San Antonio and I urge you to find one; you'll love their ice cream.
