A grilled cheese that wasn't really grilled and the shredded cheese inside wasn't melted at all. The sandwich was cold and not cooked thoroughly and the fries were cold. I wouldn't have minded waiting the extra 5 minutes it would've taken to grill the cheese sandwich.. I didn't send it back because I know that they sent it out like that, when they cut the sandwich in half and saw that the cheese wasn't melted at all.. Came here for brunch and it was very underwhelming. The wait time for the table wasn't too bad, maybe like 20 minutes but when we got sat, it took a while for our server to come and take our order. After we placed our order, our drinks took 10-15 minutes and then our food took another 20 minutes. We got the meatloaf hash, lemon ricotta french toast, breakfast sandwich, huevos rancheros, and spicy chicken sandwich. The huevos rancheros were very bland which is odd since huevos rancheros should be flavorful. They also forgot the avocado for the huevos rancheros. My breakfast sandwich was okay. The eggs were the best part for sure but the potatoes lacked so much flavor. There was no seasoning on them, not even salt. My friend and I had to dump cholula sauce on our food to make it taste a little better. As for the spicy chicken sandwich, it was alright but it was small. I was sat without any menus, the server came by and asked if I was ready to order after waiting 10 minutes. I explained my situation, and he was quick to remedy it. My friend joined me, we ordered drinks and food. After 20-25 minutes our server comes by with our check, we quickly explained we haven't even eaten yet. This place is located in a residential area. There is enough parking on the street. Expect a long wait time (45 to 90 mins ) on weekends. We were there at 10am and had to wait for 45 mins to get the seat and another 45mins to get the food ! The ambience and vibe is amazing . It is set up under a big (fig?) tree. Servers were very friendly and nice I ordered an anti oxidant mimosa, lobster and blue crab cake Benedict and man candy. Drinks came soon but food took 45 minutes ( I would have given this place a 5 star if the wait time for the food was shorter ) Mimosa was very good. Lobster and blue crab cake Benedict was awesome, man candy was good too. It was a great breakfast experience overall. Would definitely go back when I'm in San Diego again . On top of that, customers next to them have to essentially have someone else's dog at their table. We're not talking service dogs here. More like insecurity dogs. Probably my favorite brunch place as of lately. Absolutely love the atmosphere, dog-friendly environment, and delicious food! Have been here on several occasions and enjoyed almost every dish I've tried here. They even do their sides well - if your entree doesn't come with a side of their rosemary potatoes, I definitely recommend it. Their garlic fries are great as well. For entrees, I like to go for the simple breakfast platters and enjoy the "American" plate with three eggs your style, bacon, rosemary potatoes, and your choice of bread. It's a lot of food and the plate gives you a good variety. My boyfriend almost always gets something from the french toast menu. His favorite so far has been the Strawberry & Cream one. For brunch, they also have $5.25 bottomless coffee. There was a time the server even asked us if we wanted a to-go cup for the cup of coffee we were still working on, which I thought was nice of them to offer. If you ask for a dog menu, they also have a small menu of 4-5 items for your pup. It ranges from a couple bucks to $5/6 to get a serving of eggs, bacon, or a meal of turkey breast & rice. They will also bring out a water bowl if your dog is dining with you. Service is always great. Unfortunately, there is always a wait but it goes by surprisingly fast so don't be discouraged by crowd standing outside the restaurant. If there is a wait, I recommend dropping by the Hawaiian establishment next door to order a coffee and/or walk around their gift shop. Came her for the first time today for their brunch and I have to say that I left a fan. I came with 2 other friends and the wait time was around 25 minutes for 3 people (I'm pretty sure that it ended up being like 20 minutes instead). I ended up getting the braised beef bennie($14.95), one friend got the traditional bennie (~$10) and my other friend for the lobster/ crab cake bennie ($14.95) and strawberries and creme french toast (~$12). My friends really enjoyed their bennies and both upgraded to the Parmesan arugula potatoes. I enjoyed my beef bennie on focaccia bread, and although the beef was a bit chewy the flavor was still really good. The french toast could've been better and we were a bit disappointed because it lacked in flavor. The only downside to this experience was that a waiter spilled water on my friend and instead of apologizing, all he said was, "it's just water." I have been to Fig Tree Cafe several times over the past decade and it has been consistently great! The ambiance is beautiful with the indoor/outdoor options, lush, beachy, in the trees theme. They have an extensive menu containing some creative options in the omelette/scramble department as well as the sweeter breakfast pancakes and French toast department. The Man Candy bacon is always a hit and something we have attempted to replicate at home quite a few times for brunch get togethers. I highly recommend Fig Tree and will continue to return every time I visit the San Diego area.
