I highly recommend File + Style!! I have been going there since Feb of 2021 so while not that long I will say its my favorite salon I have ever been to!! I go to school out in Hawaii and got mine done out there once and never again, I always find myself right back in the doors of this cute little place. The salon itself is very cute, clean, and the people there I have found are all very sweet! I always feel very welcome when I go inside, I am always greeted with a hello and they are all very accommodating as well. I am 19 but I love my nails to be the centerpiece for me, I am constantly complimented on my nails and people always ask where I got them done. If you are looking for designs that are really fancy and could take a bit I highly suggest LoAnn, I have requested her every time and oh my god she never disappoints. I plan on going here as long as I can physically can. Price wise I would say it may be on the expensive side to some depending on what u may be looking for BUT please keep in mind that this is hours of hard work going into your nails and as someone who sat through a 3 hour appointment the price is so worth it. The detail and perfection in her work is impeccable, I always have checked in before hand to see if my designs would work and haven't had any problems. If you are worried about the capability range of the artists I would simply bring in multiple designs as backups in case!! Regarding cancellations and such because I know its one of the things people have complained about, I read all the reviews and stuff before I had gone there a while back. If we have to think about this from their point of view, when we cancel last minute and they don't have fees this is time and money they are losing. This is a small business and Covid sucked for everyone but it especially can take hits on places such as this, at the end of the day if u have a problem with it then you can always find somewhere else to go. They have day of walk-ins specifically for this kind of situation if u want to be safe but if u decide to book ahead it states MANY times that there is a cancellation fee after 24 hours so if this is a problem for you I highly recommend just calling day of and seeing if they have any openings. read more

Ive been going to File + Style for over 2 years now. So before the pandemic. I religiously book my dip + 10 finger designs every 3 weeks with Trinh. Trinh is consistent, pays attention to detail, creative, and very patient. I come in, show her a picture of what I'd like, and in the end, her designs are even better than the original design. LoAnn is the owner and she does wonderful nails as well as waxing. She does my facial waxing and I always leave feeling clean and a new woman with my freshly waxed eyebrows and lips. Her process is clean and shows good hygiene care. I don't worry about cross contamination. LoAnn is also super responsive on Instagram-- so don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions! The nail salon is beautiful, modern, and clean. The back stock is all tidy and neat in the back and staff is usually welcoming and professional. They are clean, and practice safety and hygiene. The minute we walk in the salon, we are asked to wash our hands and wear a mask. We are separated by acrylic boards and Covid or not, I love this because all that drill powder everywhere always messed with my asthma. You have to book your appointments on Booksy and make sure to add all of the services you want. That includes, your designs and removals if needed. If you have to cancel, they ask that you cancel 24hrs ahead of time. And if you have a problem with that, you obviously know nothing about small businesses. You get a reminder the day before to confirm your appt, so I think you have enough time to confirm. If you want specific nail designs or styles make sure you're booking Trinh or LoAnn! I've been coming here for a few months now and I can say there's definitely some inconsistencies in the quality of work from the different nail techs. I always get dip powder on my nails and if I don't book Trinh or LoAnn in advance my nails will sometimes end up being too thick or too misshapen for my liking. Trinh did a great job on these ombré nails and explained to me that I could still do dip powder but the red ombré would be gel and she could still do it. They do get very busy on weekends and will take walk ins which can delay your appointment so I always try to book an appt on a weekday. Make sure to bring cash for tip! read more

I called and booked an appointment with a nail tech unfortunately the lady who booked my appointment lied. I came here and I was told that the person no longer works here and that she now has her own shop. Since I've already wasted my time coming I thought maybe I would give them a SECOND chance... however that was a bad idea I would not recommend this place to anyone. The service here is terrible. They do not know how to do the designs that are being advertised. The owner herself couldn't make a perfect shaped heart. They are constantly rushed due to over booking and the person who did my nails got mad at me cause she couldn't do the design I wanted. I left the shop with clear nails. If I could give zero stars I would! Made an appointment through Booksy - don't let the pictures fool you, this is not an upscale salon. It's cramped, junky and they had no clue that I'd made an appointment. They were also taking walk-ins, causing the nail techs to jump between 2-3 people at a time. They were moving from doing a persons pedicure to doing someone's manicure without changing their gloves. I came to get my nails done for my wedding and the lady completely ruined my natural nails and their shape - I had to point out to her that she was filing them crooked, and due to language barrier we waited over 10 minutes for someone to come over to translate. When they did, they said they'd now need to add powder to my nails to fix them, but I'd have to wait until they were done with another customer (who was nowhere near finished) before helping me. Pretty terrible manicure experience. Won't be back. I called in advance and asked if they could take me for a dip manicure, they said yes even though it was an hour before they closed. Big mistake, from the moment I sat down I was rushed and not treated with care. The woman who removed my dip polish was INCREDIBLY ROUGH. She filed the dip powder off so aggressively that it made my nails thin. She also missed several spots where my old polish was left and had to remind the second girl to do my nails to get it off. I made a poor color choice, after the first coat I could tell it was way too translucent. I ask the 2nd nail tech what my options were she said "she couldn't do anything for me because they were about to close" I asked for an additional coat or mixing another color and she refused. At most it would have taken her 8 minutes to get a new color and as a first time customer I was hoping she would have been a bit more accommodating. Aside from the color mishap and the aggressive removal they actual manicure was sub par. No cutting or pushing back of the cuticles AT ALL. I won't back back, the attention to detail and customer service was subpar. I really wanted this to be my go to nail place, but I have decided after my experience today, and the previous time, I need to take my money and time elsewhere. The customer service is subpar, the wait times are ridiculous- even when you have an appointment, they make you wait 20-30 minutes when you get there. Please note- you only have 15 min grace period for your appointment , but they can take their sweet time as much as they want. I asked for a simple French tip with color, and she told me i had to book more design service and time when making the appointment. Why would i do that? I booked a dip full set with tips, and a pedicure. Previous times she has always done a design without me booking extra design times . Besides that, they started on my appointment 20 minutes after i got there. During my dip/tip appointment, she was doing my nails and others nails at the same time. She had the excuse of being so backed up, but why make your customer wait, waste my appointment time servicing others as well, and then tell me you don't have time to do the French tip I'm asking for. I had a great experience with the women who did my gel mani (HOLLY) but wasn't to happy with the experience on my regular pedi. Holly did a amazing gob cleaning, listening to my requests on nail shape, colors(i had two different color combos) and took her time making me felt cared for. The lady who did my pedi (dont know her name), did a good job with the polish but everything else (the massage, the cleaning and cutting ) she did very quickly and lazy. I will say went in during a VERY busy time with a lot of customers, however, as someone who is paying $55, I think its fair to say I should get the whole experience. She start my foot scrub and massage 5 minutes after my friend started her and we finished at the same time. When it came to cleaning, i had to repeat multiple times i wanted my nails cut and shaped and she didn't seem to understand. (Language barrier which is fine) but after it was translated,she still didn't cut all the nails and didn't file all of them so some nails are weirdly shaped. I would still recommend this place! This was my first time coming here so I decided to make an appointment at 4pm on a Saturday for gel mani and I specified with a design as well as a pedicure. I was super excited to get an awesome nail design for before my birthday next weekend. I don't often try complex nail designs. I told the lady (whom I now assume is the owner) that I wanted a design and thought I'd let the tech use creative freedom but give them an idea of things I like. She was super short with me and told me that they are too busy and to just show pictures. Um ok wow sorry about that, what's the point in making an appointment? I assumed I'd give them the ability to do what they do best, hence the creative freedom. She then decided to scroll thru some of her photos and suggest designs. We finally agreed upon one which was an abstract partial nail foil with pink, bronze, and gold. After my pedicure was finished (which had cold water) I moved over to the nail table. She then began telling the nail tech how to do this design and pulling out supplies for it. She pulled out stars and I even told her she could leave those out or just do gold. As I went through the process of getting the design I assumed that naturally, the design would look better. It did not. What I ended up with looked nothing like the photo (I wish I had it but it was on her phone). I paid and tipped 20% because the tech that actually did my nails tried, but she clearly did not know what she was doing. The owner never came back to check on the techs work and the owner never even said bye to me or anything! Thru reading the reviews, she's obviously the one who's good at designs. I walked out wanting to cry and looking up a new place to get this disaster off my nails. My nails look like a Lisa Frank abstract at a 10-year-old birthday party. My nails are also so poorly filed they are snagging and catching fuzz on them on the underside. I am SO disappointed and embarrassed not only at the customer service but that fact that they sell themselves on Yelp & Instagram as a nail salon that does design but clearly not everyone has the skill. Went in to get my gel nails removed, since my normal nail shop (way more expensive, way more in demand) is full for weeks. This was the closest to me at the time. If you go to any piercing or tattoo shops, the mark of hygiene is the upkeep of the restroom. Should've known to run out of there as soon as I saw that. Woman took my hands and worked so quickly and C A R E L E S S L Y. She forgot to put cotton that soaked the acetone on one of my finger nails, and when I told her, she said, "Why didn't you tell me?" First time and probably the last time. Went there with a friend on Saturday. Originally my friend and I both wanted to do a color ombré gel. We both asked for a color that is not on the sample. My friend's worker was reall nice and willing to mix the color that she asked for, but my worker just said no. I was kinda disappointed already but fine, then I chose glitter which is easier. When it came to trimming, i didn't realize my left thumb nail is shorter than my right thumb until I was on my way home. This spot will forever be my go to as long as I'm in the eastbay! LoAnn and her team are amazing! They are super friendly, their establishment is clean and hygienic even during pre covid, and they're very attentive. They're a powerhouse team! I always get dip powder with designs for my hands and I LOVE their work. AND others do too - You have no idea how many compliments I get! For my feet, I get their gel pedicure and sometimes they'll go above and beyond, especially during cold seasons when I'm a little dry to make sure my feet is nice and smooth....and this is without me even asking. Previously, I had never been satisfied with the service I recieved other places in the area and am so happy someone suggested Loann. In addition to pedicures (which are all great), I get acrylic nails with designs and have been satisifed with every set. Both LoAnn and Trinh kill at any design you give them, the sets last and the shaping is on point. One thing I REALLY appreciate is they soak of your nails vs rip them off which I have had done at prior salons. They have an easy book system, which helps the salon stay to the appointment times and run smoothly. From my own experience I have recieved nothing but kind, professional, service from file and style. All the nail techs are great for pedis or regular mani. My client recommended this nail salon I was excited to try them but NEVER AGAIN will I ever return. The pedi was descent but my full set looks ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. Definitely DM their Instagram if there is a design in particular you want for accurate pricing BEFORE your appointment so you know what to book. Where do I begin...I had a 2:00 appointment today for soak off, full acrylic set, two nails with design, and a polish change on my feet. LoAnn (owner) started my nails and I emphasized how disappointed I was with the quality of the previous nail shops I've been to. With this being said she began the process of the soak off then proceeded to do my full set. The length I okayed when she cut down the tips was not the length I left with. Long story short my length was over filed and the rest was left all on the side and at the top of the nails underneath and not properly filed down. On top of when she was filing she over filed and cut my cuticle. When I inquired about this LoAnn specifically said don't worry we will finish filing them once your nails are polished and designed. Well needless to say that never got down. Now let's talk about my polish change. The lady who did my polish change cut and filed my nails in different lengths...not to mention my nails were not even buffed out before she painted them. Which left my nails looking scuffed and ruffed under the polish. Finally my design was done by a third lady. I showed her the exact design that I wanted with blue instead of red. Well she insisted that what she gave me was what was on the picture and that is not the case. She gave me an orange color as the bottom where in the picture it is more gold/yellow. I had very high hopes for this salon and after leaving I'm left trying to understand what I spent $127 on for my nails to utterly look like ****. Furthermore I was so unhappy and upset that this is really how they treat a customer or potential client and have no remorse or regards to the quality and lack of customer service that is given. The next woman who I guess was who I booked with (Anna) but never told me her name, did the worst fill I've ever had. This was the worst nail salon experience I have ever had! DO NOT GO HERE!! I came in for gel manicure on hands that had not gotten a manicure in almost nine months. I left with my cuticles being filed until the skin broke, bloody, and rubbed raw. The first manicurist was very slow with cutting my cuticles. While putting the gel on my bails she did not clean up the gel on the skin around my nails. She told me water would make the GEL go away. This is untrue, it's gel, it's supposed to stay for 2 weeks it will not get off with water. I asked to get it fixed, then another stylist (the owner) came over and begin to file the polish off my skin, which caused more harm than good. I booked a gel manicure with Loann today. I had high hopes since she was highly recommended on Yelp. Starting off with the pros, I appreciated how detailed and patient she was when she filed my nails, allowing me to inspect each time and asking me how I liked it. The store has a huge selection of charms, so that is another positive. Since my oval charm didn't completely stick flat on my nail, she used top coat to fill the gap and make sure it wouldn't fall of. For the other charms, she also added extra top coat so it would stick longer. I really appreciated this until I noticed it lead to bulging polish on top and around the tips of my nails, making them lose most of their filed shape. This also happened to nails I didn't get charms on too. You can tell my nails bulge unnaturally from a distance, which makes me really sad since I spent a lot on this manicure. Upon closer inspection after getting home, I noticed that the polish application was not even either. There were parts that weren't opaque or the polish crinkled vertically at the tip. I admit I chose a color on the sheer side, but that shouldn't be happening if evenly applied. I don't really have a finger that I love from this manicure. She also surprised me by filing my nails after the top coat to make sure my nails weren't too sharp. Good intentions, but I had always been taught that you weren't supposed to file after finishing gel/top coat. Overall, I think I am willing to give the shop another try. I have always done gel polish on natural nails and have never had any of these issues. The effort and care was definitely there, but the execution just didn't match. The pictures on Instagram look great and I'll probably just ask for the person she told me did a specific design I liked from their page next visit. I have been coming to this shop since January of 2018, so about 3 months now. I really enjoyed the way the shop owner, LoAnn did my nails, but as I've returned 3-5 times, she's never there and I work with different nail techs who are not as good at shaping. I called and specifically made an appointment with LoAnn because I was getting a fresh full set and I wanted them done properly. When I walked in, LoAnn was working on another client and directs me to sit with a different lady saying, "we do nails the same." Why would I make an appointment with a specific employee only to be handed off to someone else? Overall, their lack of professionalism, sub-par shaping and inability to offer designs is a deal breaker for me. read more
