My third time visiting Fin & Fino and every time has been a perfect experience. My wife and some friends went on a Sunday night right at 5pm. We had reservations but it wasn't overly busy so I don't think they were necessary for that day and time but I would definitely recommend on busier times. I love the fact that this is more of a tapas style restaurant so you can order and taste a ton of options. Plates are generally around $14-22 per plate and they have enough for three or four (tapas style). We started with crab dip and oysters on the half shell (raw). The crab dip was rich and creamy and served with buttered crusty, buttered bread. The oysters were amazing too but a little nuance about these: they are listed by region (e.g. West Coast, Mid-Atlantic, etc.) and not listed as they type of oyster. Oysters vary greatly within a single region so I would encourage you to ask what specific oysters they serve for each region (they will look it up and tell you) to make sure you know what you are getting. We also ordered the calamari, small salad (unlisted option for the salad listed on the menu) and poke bowl to share. We went in hungry and probably ordered too much because this was all to start off. Everything was really good and worth ordering. For my "entree" or ordered the trout which comes with lentils and broccolini. This dish was fantastic and highly recommended. The trout was perfectly cooked and delicious. Our waitress, Tiffany, was amazing and did a great job. Additionally, this is the perfect spot for a "dinner and a show" since it is right beside the Knight theater. Parking is easily accessible at the Green Garage right across the street. read more

I was in town for a conference and dined here chiefly because it participates in the Dining Rewards Program, allowing me to earn additional airline miles on top of the points I earn paying with credit card. This restaurant is very nicely designed. It's visually appealing with tables indoors, a bar area, and an outside dining area. The hostess and my server were professional and extremely nice and made my dining experience very pleasant. The reason I am giving three stars instead of four or more comes down to value. Seafood is expensive, I get that. But I don't know that there's much value to be had here. Portion sizes are small relative to what you're paying for. And in my opinion, while the freshness and the quality of the seafood may be there, the flavor is not. I have no doubt that the quality of the seafood here is good. But I did not enjoy anything I ordered. I wasn't put off by the food, but I wish I had wanted to savor each bit. I ordered the cajun grilled oysters and the miso sablefish. Went here for a fancy anniversary dinner and got "The Treatment" in which we were served several dishes ranging from appetizers to entrees, and a dessert at the end. We also ordered some oysters to start and a bottle of wine. We received several dishes, pictured are a few of my favorites- the poke bowl was so delicious, I also really loved the Miso sable fish- it was so tender. My boyfriend loved the scallops and oysters. It was a very nice experience, white tablecloths and the wait staff were fantastic as well, our server Jimmy was very helpful and friendly. We received new silverware and plates with each course. Overall the experience here was wonderful, great service by both our servers including his two big parties. The reason I would give it 3 stars is the food was okay for the pricing. We did restaurant week so it was a great deal. The salad and fries as an app were great! Hmmm. My first visit to this restaurant. Expected more from a restaurant associated with the Dressler's. I sat at the bar with a reservation. I got very little, if any, explanation on the menu or anything from the bar staff. I had to ask for the Queen's feast restaurant week menu. They weren't about to show it to me. Then they tried to upsell me to a more expensive menu with four courses. What one person can eat four courses? So eventually, I got the Queen's feast menu. I started with Furikake fries. They were hot and fresh, so that is good. However, when you got a mouthful of that mayonnaise, and seasoning, it was a salt bomb. Almost unedible. The second course was lamb rigatoni. Excellent no complaints was fantastic. The third course was the Denver steak. I ordered a medium rare, which is what you really want to do for a Denver steak, and it was tough and chewy. I did not find it pleasing at all. Not sure I'm going back. It was a let down. read more

The best way to experience this restaurant is through the treatment service (a tasting menu designed by your server which is crafted from your drink choice and meal preferences). This was a very decent place with a good selection of seafood dishes and fun cocktails. We went for dinner, and we had the mussels, cajun oysters, seafood pasta, and crab dip. Everything was good, but nothing incredibly outstanding. The serving sizes were not large, but prices were reasonable. Service was very okay, nothing insane, but parking was very conveniently provided in the nearby parking lot and validated by the restaurant. Inside, the ambiance was quite nice. Not too casual, not too fancy, but a nice dinner place to go with friends or family. Fantastic dining experience here! The restaurant has a quaint homey vibe with a nice wrap around bar with plenty of seating. Very cool and unique cocktail selection. I had the weary Willie which had a fat washed bourbon over roasted sesame oil. Very complex and creative. I went for the treatment which takes you on a tasting tour of the menu. I love tasting menus but found this to be sort of out of line of expectations. I would expect smaller variants of the normal menu items though I received what I believe to be just the regular menu items as if I ordered them directly. So this ended up being 4 dishes plus dessert. Definitely a saving compared to ordering them directly but you don't get to pick which ones you get. And honestly it's too much food for one person to finish on their own. 2 dishes per person seems like it would be a good sweet spot. If I were to return I'd just pick the 2 dishes I wanted the most. In addition, it was all seafood, instead of two seared fish dishes would have been nice to try a pasta or beef course. Think the variety could be better. Overall the food was fantastic. Each dish was well plated and balanced with different flavors. The fish was a bit on the drier side for my preference, but it was by no means overdone. The sides with both fish dishes were also equally tasty and went well with the fish. Standout was for sure the shrimp dish. The sauce was just incredible with Aleppo pepper and lemon flavor, a nice tanginess from the capers, and a freshness from the dill. Even the bread was awesome, thinly sliced and not too crusty, it soaked up the sauce so well. Definitely recommend this one! Finally the carrot cake, a photogenic and sizeable slice. Too large to finish after so much other food. Nothing crazy as far as carrot cake goes but solid middle of the road. This is a great spot with fantastic food and drink options. Recently went here for a business dinner with clients from out of town. Easy to make a reservation online, and the ambiance was super cute. It was a little loud and hard to hear eachother at our table even for a week night dinner. They have a lot of food options, mainly seafood. Oysters, fries and crab dip were delicious appetizers - highly recommend! Everyone loved their meals and their espresso martini was one of the best I've had. The crab bits were like eating the part of the chicken wing that no one eats. Skimpy and hard to get the meat off. Not worth $59. Roasted beets were surprisingly yummy. Lamb rigatoni was SO OILY! It was swimming in oil. The lamb was fatty as well. Halibut with succotash was tasty. Would have been excellent with a complimentary drizzle of some sauce to bring the flavors together a bit more. The local IPA options were the lowlight of our evening (only one). We ordered Tuna Crudo ($18) and Crab Dip ($25) to start out....both were great choices. Next my bride ordered the Flounder ($21) and I went with the Tuna & Salmon Poke ($20). Have to give a shout out to the staff - the one constant at all of Jon Dresslers locations are the people. They are a lot of fun, they love their food, they take pride in what they do and it shows! The people around us got the treatment, and I have to say it all looked amazing! There were no complaints whatsoever from anyone at the table. As one would imagine - there was a great deal of fresh raw seafood as well as cooked. No surprise, it was fresh and excellent! I got the roasted beets and the heart of ribeye. Both were wonderful - oh my goodness the beef was so tender and flavorful cooked perfectly. The beets, a personal taste? I wasn't a fan of what might have been peppercorns on the beets? It just was too strong for me when I crunched down on two. I am a beet lover so just scraped them off - they were excellent. The calamari was really good, as was of course the shrimp cocktail and crab dip. Always amazing! The mussels in the pasta dish were minuscule and not alot of pasta - it was about the size of an appetizer to be honest. Now perhaps that is what it was meant to be but not enough to feed one person as a main dish. Still, very flavorful. I have to admit that Dresslers and Chapter 6 are still my favorites - hands-down, but you obviously cannot beat the freshness of the raw seafood and - The Treatment - was such a fun experience! Rare finding: good food in Charlotte!! I did no research on this restaurant but went in at 1:45pm (15 minutes before they close after lunch). I love beans and I love fish so I ordered the pan seared trout with navy beans in a red sauce with the enthusiastic encouragement of Ess the server. The taste of the food was the stuff dreams are made of. My portion of food - although very small - was well prepared, seasoned, and comforting. Chef's Kiss!! The entire experience - from the most welcoming manager Annalise to each person I spoke to - was warm, friendly, and happy. UPDATE for the full picture: During the visit above I also ordered a cocktail that cost $16. It was a type of Old Fashioned but there was not enough beverage to cover the huge cube of ice in the small glass. THEN TODAY as I am looking at the pictures of the same drink posted in this Yelp entry, I see that other patrons of this restaurant received a FULL glass of the Old Fashioned. About 3 times as much as I received. And I also see that I only received HALF of the trout I ordered. My lunch meal was $57 not including my $10 tip. And included a small piece of cake. Yes, it was all delicious. But you will leave there still kinda hungry. And thirsty. The staff member did chuckle and say something about how I cleaned my plate. I felt a little embarrassed. Then came the fries with mayo which were nice and crisp. The seafood salad was fine nothing fancy. The tuna and salmon poke bowl was so rich with some nice acidity. The mushroom toast was so herby and very rich, it would be hard to eat one alone. The shrimp were phenomenal. The broth was so flavorful, the bread was crisp, and shrimp tender. The flank steak was cooked nicely but nothing outstanding. The ribeye was one of the best I've ever had. The butter on top was insane and it was so fatty and flavorful. The potatoes were a nice side. Lastly, the Oreo cheesecake was the only thing I might not have been crazy about. It had a bit of strange texture for cheesecake, but wasn't anything bad. I have been to many higher end restaurants than Fin & Fino around the US, that said I have never experienced service like the Fin & Fino uptown. It was spectacular would be an understatement. Both people that waited on us were amazing, additional anyone else delivering a drink or food(ordered) was pleasant & polite. Could not saw more amazing things about the service. Additionally the food was fresh/ delicious. Seafood was great, kids customized food was excellent, and drinks were awesome... amazing! Amazing! Amazing! Our server was wearing tropical attire while another was wearing plaid. Portion sizes were extremely small calling two scallops on a half palm full of risotto an entree is a stretch even by high end restaurant standards. Plates were more tapas size and should be advertised as such. Calamari seemed to be imitation and was a small handful for $18.00. Fin & fino has been on my list for so long - it's on the pricier side so my husband and we're waiting for a special occasion and it truly exceeded expectations. Our server was phenomenal - he was so knowledgeable of the menu and was clearly passionate about food. He made multiple suggestions for our meal such as the mushroom toast and the flounder and they were unreal. Make sure to ask for a wine suggestion - we had Prosecco with the tuna crudo which was fantastic. The furikake fries were amazing. It is small plate style so we ordered a few plates and our server brought them out in a suggested order of the crudo first, so that the fat from the fries wouldn't coat the palate. They have "magic drinks" that don't list the ingredients just the vibe. my husband got magic #5 & he enjoyed it. we heard amazing things about the cheesecake. we were seeing a show uptown so we ended up running out of time for dessert but we will absolutely be back. they also do a special called "the treatment" its $70 per person, and includes 8 plates. your server and chef choose the plates. we plan to do this next time!! read more

Walked in on a Thursday at 12 noon and was informed that the heat was not working. Sat at the bar and ordered a bowl of soup as an appetizer that has not arrived in well over 15 minutes in nearly empty restaurant.... This is my second time trying FF and the first time I did not eat. Needless to say the first visit did not go well and as a result of the email received from the owner, I decided to try it out again. Finally the soup arrived and is closer to a half bowl of soup with 2 saltine crackers. I am really trying to like this place and so far strike 2! If I planned to address the half bowl soup or the lack of crackers the bartender was no where to be found. I will say the soup was tasty. I had ordered trout when I ordered my soup which arrived with a very small portion size. If I was given more crackers I would eat the trout and beans on the crackers so the adult size meal would fill me. Again, the fillet of an 8 inch trout was tasty with the beans. I didn't realize I asked for the petite portion! Others at the bar getting service as well as the people with takeout orders. At 12:43 was the first time someone checked on me and I only had three bites left at that point. I guess I could have asked for the other half of my trout, but they probably served it to someone else already! My appetite is not what it was when I was younger but I would expect a larger portion size. About the only thing that was prompt was processing payment. $32.48 after tip and I'm headed elsewhere to get another meal. Lesson learned. read more

I literally wish I could give my dining experience at Fin & Fino uptown Charlotte more than five stars. Last night was our first time dining here and we did so on a whim after making same-day reservations. We arrived and were seated promptly in Jimmy's section. As soon as we were settled, he presented the drink menu and explained our options (they have the typical list of crafted cocktails along with wines, etc., or you can take a chance and select a drink by its descriptor, not knowing exactly what will be in the glass you receive). Once drinks were received and we'd had a chance to review the menu, Jimmy was back to take our order. My husband has extreme allergies to gluten and dairy. Jimmy carefully noted both and helped him order a lovely dish of grilled swordfish and Carolina dirty rice. There wasn't a morsel left on the man's plate in the end. He thoroughly enjoyed the selection and had no after-effects (as he sometimes has from cross-contamination or carelessness in the kitchen). My adult son and I polished off a raw bar "Tower of Power" and a half-order of fries. Our first batch of fries was a little on the salty side, which Jimmy remedied with a new batch without hesitation once we let him know the issue. The second batch was spot-on. The seafood was fresh, the ambience was great. The noise level was gentle, and we enjoyed catching up with our son who is visiting from Colorado. As good as the food was, our server was absolutely delightful. Jimmy was attentive, concerned with our experience from start to finish, and enthusiastic in his work. He literally crafted a perfect evening for us, and probably had no idea how many times we mentioned he was the highlight amongst ourselves throughout the dinner. We have been going to another seafood shop in uptown for years, and though it's always been good, Fin & Fino has swooped in and earned our business going forward. Plenty of food for everyone at the table. - The Treatment, $70pp, 9 courses (5*) Most dishes came with 3 for a table of 8. Some had 2. It was probably about 24-25 dishes to the table. They're billed as tapas style, but most dishes were pretty hefty in size. This isn't one of those tapas places where you get a tiny morsel of a bite after sharing with the table. - Furikake Fries, normally $10, (5*) Great tasting fries. Finger licking good furikake and mayo. - Mushroom Toast, normally $16 (5*) The toast soaked up all the yummy cream herb goodness, and there was a mountain of mushrooms on top. Every bite was super unctuous. - Whole Roasted Trout, MP (5*) Butterflied really nicely, super tender meat. Great sauce. Was dipping the fish back into the sauce to get the flavor. - Seared Tuna, normally $21 (5*) I usually shy away from seared tuna dishes, as I find it lacking in flavor. Not the case here. It was paired with almost a Chinese-style crunchy spicy sauce, and the pickled red onion added such a refreshing pop. - Heart of Ribeye, normally $45 (5*) Cooked perfectly medium rare and sliced. Slight char on the outside. Beautiful flavor from the bleu cheese. - Scallops, normally $24 (5*) Potentially the best dish of the night. Delicate scallops paired with amazing vegetables and sauce. If not for the fact that it was a business meal, I might have licked my plate. - House Pasta, normally $18 (4*) Very good flavor in the sauce. The Calabrian chili was a great choice. The noodles were a tad overcooked. Wish it had a bit more bite. - Dessert Trio, Key Lime, Chocolate, Cheesecake (4*) Tasty, though not memorable like all the other dishes. It may have been that we were simply stuffed. - Value (5*) I hardly ever give 5* for the value score, but here it is absolutely deserved. This was essentially a 9 course meal with plenty to eat. We honestly could have stopped at 7 dishes and been plenty full. I imagine for the amount of food we had and the high level of execution, other restaurants could easily charge $125-$150 pp. So $70 pp is tremendous. If I lived nearby, I would be a frequent guest. - Final Word To encounter this on a business trip was wholly unexpected. I did a little reading before booking Fin & Fino, but nothing I read prepared me for this masterpiece. Bravo! read more
