As someone who does not eat red meat, it is nice to find a seafood version of fast food ( though much higher quality). It is my moms favorite quick bite and we both usually get the grilled branzino, but I have had both the grilled and fried fish tacos and thought they were delicious. I wish they had a little more variety in the sides ( like many different kinds of grilled vegetables and various kinds of seasoned rices). California Fish Grill in Northridge, is a seriously underestimated seafood restaurant. Have you heard of it? They have a wide menu covering numerous choices, including lobster (the rolls). I have been here before, but this time decided to give it some serious patronage. And try a different item on every visit, spaced only a few days apart. So on visit one, it was the grilled salmon, with grilled zuchini and rice. As an extra, the grilled asparagus. I was very impressed with all the preparations. Their grilled zuchini with rosemary, is a show stopper. Perfectly crunchy, fresh and bursting with flavor. The asparagus, optimally charred and inviting. On visit two, the grilled prawns, again with the zuchini (cannot stop having it) and the baked beans. Once again, another perfect hit. On visit three, I decided to try the lobster roll. Could they deliver? The bun was soft, buttery, toasted on the outside to impress. Lobster meat generous and tasty. Service here is outstanding. In my opinion, a superb restaurant with a wide array of fantastic selections, that can tackle any seafood competition. This place may not have fine dining ambiance. Not a big issue at all. The food was hot, as expected as my pickup window was correct. The inside seemed clean, but I took the food to-go. It was packed really nicely, as the fried foods had containers with ventilation as to not get mushy. The fish and chips were ok, not great. The tartar sauce is good though. The chips, fries, were definitely disappointing. Anything shrimp, was bad. Not enough grill or grilling flavor. Shrimps themselves were not good quality shrimps. The garlic bread is good. The extra garlic sauce included helped make some of the food better. Roasted Sweet Corn was bad. How do you make bad corn? Makes no sense. Brussel sprouts were ok. Depth of flavor was lacking. We had to keep correcting the order in the kiosk. It kept changing the orders as we were adding another persons food. Example: I wanted fries, the kiosk changed it to Brussels sprouts. I changed it back to fries. It kept changing to a different side. Before we submitted the final order, we triple checked the screen order to ensure the correct order was placed. When the receipt printed out, my fries was changed to the corn. An additional $4.50 strawberry drink was added by the kiosk itself, mind as well try it. I had to ask two separate times for the drink after I got my food. The battered fish taco just had mayo and flavorless purple onion. The sides of corn and kale slaw were bland. Expensive for the lack of flavor and service. I would just come back for the bowl of clam chowder ($8) and the tomatoes with feta and basil and the Greek salad were flavorful sides. This has become my new place! The Northridge location makes the best fish, shrimp, etc. I think you're supposed to go up and get your food, but they're so friendly here that they bring it to you. The favorite dish of mine is the grilled giant shrimp and the rosemary zucchini is to die for. Usually, Mauricio, the manager, is who I see and he is so friendly and helpful! Really engaged in what he does here and his customers... Me! :-) I have a tender tummy and have never ever once felt bad after eating here so I'm here a few times a week now. It is that good! Here, we had several fish choices from grilled to fried with Brown, White or Salad combos etc. we decided to try the Mahi-Mahi and combined it with the Roasted Corn and Zucchini, wow! I wish the Mahi Mahi was a little thicker but it was certainly sublime, nicely cooked and grilled and pleasantly prepared. Matched with the delicious Roasted Corn and Zucchini, I felt guilty having them on a Holy Friday and reflecting on my religious and spiritual obligations, simply the food was delish. I also ordered the Cesar Salad which was a perfect combination from my Mahi Mahi, it's a marriage made in heaven. We also ordered two of the Kid Approved Battered Fish for the babies and they finished them all with gusto. All these came with drinks, cola, lemonade or Apple Juice. But the best of all was the customer service we got from Mr. Basson who was one of those who helped us navigate the ordering process. I had a strange experience on my first visit where the front of house staff couldn't locate my online order but I didn't let that deter me. I enjoy the roasted zucchini and rice with garlic buttered fish proteins. I typically order either Mahi Mahi or salmon. Both are an excellent choice. I've also had the shrimp skewer but prefer to have the sauce on the side. I've found that if it's prepared with the sauce, it's completely drowning in it, and it's no longer really "healthy" to begin with. The restaurant itself is always fairly clean and it's located in a plaza with ample parking. Well... I've been here now more times than I'd care to admit. If I'd written this review prior to my last visit it likely would have been 4 or 5 stars. Now unfortunately I'd give it a 3. Perhaps they just had a bad day but my grilled chicken plate had one chicken breast that was barely cooked. Still a bit rubbery snd pink. Perhaps it hit its correct temperature of at least 165 but it sure didn't look it. I didn't have time to take it back so just skipped it but left a little hungry that day. In fairness I normally don't order chicken at a place known for fish and all the times I've ordered salmon here it's been good and well cooked. So all in all probably safe to eat here, especially if getting the fish but the one bad experience left a poor taste in my mouth. Our first experience with California Fish Kitchen was at the Woodland Hills location, and it was incredible! We went on a Taco Tuesday, and everything from how beautifully the food was presented to how delicious it tasted was amazing. We left so impressed that we knew we wanted to come back again. Today, we decided to try the Northridge location and even brought our family along, but unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment from start to finish. Even though we ordered at the kiosk, I still feel the staff should have acknowledged us, no greeting, no "welcome in," no offer to help as we figured out our order. That set the tone for what turned out to be a poor experience overall. When our food arrived, everything was subpar. We ordered shrimp tacos, fish tacos, Brussels sprouts, a Caesar salad, French fries, and chicken tenders. The shrimp tacos were dry, lacked sauce, and were completely overcooked definitely not the same quality or flavor we had before. I even had to return them because they were burnt (dark and reddish-black instead of golden). The fish tacos weren't much better. My son's chicken tenders also came out with visible burnt spots. I didn't bother returning them since he was hungry, but it was disappointing to see the lack of care in how the food was prepared. Overall, the Northridge location felt careless from the lack of customer service to the poor food quality. We won't be returning to this location. However, we might give the Woodland Hills spot another try to see if that first visit truly reflected what California Fish Kitchen is capable of. read more

I've been trying to eat health lately and so far, Fish Grill has been a delicious and healthy option for me. Lots of great seafood choices and everything taste fresh. It's located in new Symmetry Apartment retail complex, next door to La Carniceria meat market. Nice modern space with plenty of seating (indoor/outdoor). Self-order kiosk is simple and quite convenient. Regular cashier is available if you need help. I'm obsessed with their seasonal special grilled miso salmon plate. Super delicious and healthy. Miso sauce compliments salmon very well! I've also had the miso with branzino, which is another great fish. Sides are wonderful too. My favorites are miso slaw, edamame brown rice and brussels sprout. Fish & chips are fantastic. Fish are fried perfectly crisp and tender. Portions of the fish are huge. I was stuffed after 2 fish. Seasoned fries are addictingly good. They also have wine and beer available to enjoy with your meal. Overall, great experience. Only complaint is they recently replaced their seasonal specials from Miso Salmon to shrimp theme, which I'm not a fan of. Hope they bring it back soon. read more
